HAUNTING! Pink Floyd - Great Gig in the Sky | Reaction
The LFR Family, LLC.
~Tapping into Your Potential Where Others Saw None~
It took three great ladies in live version to sing what Clare Torry did and invented in studio version.
No topping Clare Torry’s original version. But I think any of these three ladies could have tackled all three parts. I honestly think that David Gilmour wanted all three to have their place in the spotlight. He’s always appreciated all of the artists in his band(s) and given them appreciation.
Clare Torry on the original cannot be topped.
It is VERY difficult (basically impossible) to live over-dub tracks like Clare's studio tracks were.
I think they all could have done this alone. But they all deserved their spotlight moment.
@@mikewatts867 Sorry Mike but your dead wrong! I have seen Gilmore try to perform Great Gig in The Sky with a few others and no one and I mean no one has or can come even close to Clare Torry, You can tell just by isolating these three that they can't do what Clare did.
nothing beats the album version . .it is pure perfection ..
I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…
I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.
It wasn't just the stage and lights either... they set up a sound system custom-designed for each venue, which was 360-degree surround, and had sound baffling to prevent the sound from speakers on one side from interfering with the sound on the other side...
It sounded amazing! 😳
I've never heard another concert like it.
@@mr.knowitall6440 Agreed. The sound was incredible. Best of any show I've ever seen, even the best for P.F.
Check out Comfortably Numb LIVE at the Pulse Concert (1994). The extended guitar solo and spectacular light show combine for an unforgettable performance.
Man oh man , you picked the wrong version . The original studio version from Dark Side is BRILLIANT and the girls are trying here but not even close. Really ! honestly and yes so much so that you SHOULD go there !
PINK FLOYD, "GREAT GIG IN THE SKY". About the dying moments thru the emotions and vocals pain, frustration, regret, coming to the realization as on album Claire quietly accepts her fate and echoes into the beyond.
I can't imagine how difficult it would be to sing something that has no words.
I totally agree. No hate needed here. We are all brothers and sisters. No need for hate anywhere. New subscriber from UKL. Doing a great job there my friend. Keep em coming.
Got to be run like hell from the same concert, superb mate🏴
Your reaction when you noticed the vocalist change was awesome! HA HA
Pink Floyd is the cerebral band of rock.
LOOOOVE this song! Another great live one would be "Brain Damage/Eclipse" its the closing track from Dark Side of the Moon. Cheers!
arte pura... expressão verdadeira
The problem with this is that the singers here are trying to reproducing, with 3 singers, what the original (single) singer, Claire Torrey, did all by herself. Claire wasn't just trying to put down a nice free-flowing melody, she was acting out the 5 stages of dying:
1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance
Go back and listen to the album/studio version and you will DEFINITELY be much more impressed, possibly even cry ... many chicks AND dudes do. No one has ever done it the way Claire did, or will ever. You owe it to yourself, Van !!! Do it !!! Do it NOW !!! 😊
The studio version is the one for this one
You gotta check out High Hopes on this live concert version. It's amazing!
I was in my teens when I first heard this in the early 80's. I fell instantly in love with 'the voice'!
I told my wife this is the song that I want played on repeat at my funeral. Also if you want a song about the dark side of all of us listen to Billy Joe's stranger.
You can mute the wizard of oz., and the soundtrack will go with the whole story. Trippy✌🏽
"She sounded like a black woman".....wait for it, wait for it, wait for it.....There she is.
Ok Headphones on, four2zero up, I am going in with you bud.
Check out Eva Avila with Brit Floyd--best cover of the original ever, including Pink Floyd's live versions.
I met David Gilmour back stage at a concert in California 1984. I asked him about the meaning - reason for “Great Gig In The Sky”…. David’s answer was something like…. .I was asked if Pink Floyd would ever do a song about Religion like some others have… so I said, You are referring to the great gig in the sky they call “God“. What words could be used to describe all the pain and suffering caused by religious beliefs. All the crying and wailing from mothers who lost their husbands or sons in a war fought over religious differences. The only vocals should be just the sound of a mothers crying with pain and suffering. That’s the true intentions of the song. We didn’t want to make that public so as to avoid any religious boycott like what happened to the Beatles after Lennon made his comment about Jesus. We could not tell the singer so as to avoid her making any comments that would end up in the media. The speaking heard at the beginning was recorded at Apple records prior to the recording of the song. Roger Waters placed a recorder at the door asking anyone who walked by to answer some questions into the microphone. The doorman stopped and recorded his answer to the question….”Are You Afraid Of Dying”?. weeks before the song was recorded. It was decided to add the recording to the start of “Great Gig In The Sky”. It leads people to believe the song is about dying, but that is actually not the case. The Great Gig In The Sky…is GOD … The incredible vocals from Clare Torry happened when she did not know what they wanted. David Gilmour told her to pretend her voice is a Saxophone like on other songs on the album, no words, just tones. Results are legendary.
All 3 have good range. They all could have gone solo and become stars.
No no no dude!!!! Gotta do original not others doing it..... gotta pay justice to that first.......
Man, please react to the studio version with Clare Torry if you haven't already.
I wish I could give you more than one "Like"
Not sure what is wrong with me. But I’ve been a musician my whole life. And havea very diverse range of music that I love. From post rock and This will destroy you - to black metal and sludge metal- to classic rock like Zeppeljn
And I tend to love atmospheric music like Sigur Ros and heavier stuff like The Funeral Pyre
But for some reason- I just can’t get into Pink Floyd.
They have a handful of tracks I like. And then a couple tracks I love. Like Dogs and wish you were here.
But growing up I did lots of mushrooms and smoked tons of weed and was always disappointed by PF music.
Just always bored me to death.
I know that I am the problem. And not Pink Floyd’s music lol but yeah. Just can’t get into it.
While she is very good there is none better than the original studio version IMO
And, I am not afraid of dying. . .
Any time will do . . . I don't mind . . .
Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it . . .
You've gotta go, sometime . . .
If you can hear this whispering . . . . . you are dying.
The only lyrics for the whole song and they're not even sung during the song . . . . .
DOES NOT TOUCH THE ORIGINAL VERSION FROM DARK SIDE OF THE MOON
Led Zeppelin & Pink Floyd are 1 thru 10. Everyone else are 11 thru whatever.
Music can see no color
My man , this is the third reaction of yours i have watched and the last ! , you miss the whole point , you want to react to the Floyd , you listen to the whole track , take it all in ,then do your comments , you just miss the whole thing .. go back to react to rap and pause after each sentence ' because you dont get this at all
Check out the album version my friend.
This one is good, but the original is sung by a single person, Miss Clare Torry, and she will blow you away.

The message is to portray the 7 emotions of grief or the feelings involved before you die. Shock or Disbelief, denial, anger, bargaining, guilt, depression and acceptance. Knowing this, listen to the song and you can understand how her voice flows beautifully between every emotion.
That is not the case. The truth is the great gig in the sky is GOD. The song is about the pain from losing a loved one in a war fought over religion. That is right from David Gilmour himself.
@@AliasMark69 the song is so moving it can be interpreted any way a person feels it
@@kevinkennedy8451 There is only ONE true meaning as David Gilmour said himself.
the journey trough the 7 feelings is so transforming... Try this song after ending a relationship...:a key of healing ..😇😈🔥🌟.
I imagine half of the comments are going to tell you this, man; and they are right. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this performance... but Clare Torrys' performance was legendary. Iconic... for so many good people.
peace and love.
Right there with you!
As great as these ladies are (and I saw them live on this tour in 1994), go back and listen to the studio version again.
I'm not sure how many of the comments you read back then, but when you realize that it was one woman, and that she did it all ad-lib, in just two takes...!! That is possibly my all-time favorite vocal performance.
But these ladies were great, and the entire concert was insanely amazing! 😳🤪🤘😎
We were at the same concert :D So I was 15 in Isle 13 center seat :D Best night of my life!
@@falarine Very cool. Count me at 22 in the nosebleed seats at Arrowhead Stadium. I've seen a lot of reactions but never any mention of just how bright it was when that ball opened up all the way. I think I still have a blind spot.
@@rizipt The arena I was at had giant pigs on the sides of the stage, but test when shine on your crazy diamond come on a huge disco ball came down. I think I was at the silver dome. I swear I was 13, but maybe they didn’t have a concert in 92.
Delicate Sounds of Thunder tour for me, 20 June, 1989, Frankfurt Festhalle, Frankfurt, Germany. Still have my ticket stub and the program book. Had a couple t-shirts but one had been torn up in the box because of box staples, the other wore out over time and use. Also have a scarf like item.
@@rizipt In this video, the ball was not working correctly.
It should have opened completely while he was jamming. It should have been reflecting stripes around the venue. That's the super bright light you mentioned, as each stripe hit you.
This one only opened completely at the end of the song, and as I recall it stopped spinning by then.
Oh dude. If you liked this version, you have done yourself a disservice by not listening instead to the original from Dark Side of the Moon, which soars high above this one by orders of magnitude. I suppose if I'd never heard the DSOTM version I would probably like this, but having been spoiled my entire life with Clare Torry's inspired and soul-spinning rendition(which was spontaneously done off-the-cuff in one take, by the way), this version leaves me ice cold. I saw this performance in concert in person, having been at the concert and even in person, I cringed at how relatively sterile and emotionally flat her performance was compared to the original. No disrespect to the lady who performed this because Clare Torry is virtually impossible to mimic, but you missed an opportunity at passing up the DSOTM version instead.
Don't Pink Floyd often block studio versions so the live versions are the only way out. Of course I may be way off here...
@@itsmeagain1745 I don't think so. Perhaps sometimes. But I've seen countless Pink Floyd reactions, including GGITS from Dark Side. So for the most part, I think Floyd's safe.
@@jeffmcdonald5901 OK - thanks
I like this version better than the original. Sam Brown and the second singer are hitting me way more
"Sing like Claire Torry" - its just not possible.
These ladies did a fine job, but CT is on another level.
Yes, folk, Claire Torrey's version was amazing. However, to sing this live day after day on a tour would be extremely difficult. Especially when providing other background vocals through the set. So you split it between three performers and you get an amazing performance each show for months on end.
True enough. But for the sake of the song and its first listen, Clare is your go to version.
Pat Peterson did the live touring vocals.
Exactly!!
For anyone interested, Clare Torry talks about recording this track in this interview. ua-cam.com/video/mIW7xZSlZoM/v-deo.html
Gotta listen to the album version - the original and still the best - by one lady....
Also Van you're my favorite content creator. Can you check out the song slacker by umphrey's mcgee live 12/31/18 if you take paid requests I'll pay to have you react to it. They're my favorite band.
Awe man, lowkey my favorite song from Dark Side of the Moon. You HAVE TO check out the recorded version. Even if there’s no reaction video, it’s amazing!
My oldest brother and I trekked through a heavy snow in 1973 to get to Musicland so he could buy The Dark Side of the Moon album. I was 10 (I’m 59 now) and he was 13.
Still have that album!
The Studio version with Clare Torry, you must listen to. The lady in the concert did a great job, Clare Torry is unbelievable. When you listen to it on your own, you’ll see.
So powerful and soulful… 5 stages of grid without words!
Grief, lol .Don't worry we all understand you though.
This was my favorite when I was 14 standing on my bed in front of the mirror pretending I was her with my hairbrush as my microphone.
The original Clare Torry version is better, if you can believe that!
Always enjoy your reactions! I was there. I'm old. And I've never forgotten bringing the much-awaited album home in a rush, getting friends in, and just sitting (floating!) in silence while the album took us all on a ride. The amazing thing is, the album almost never got produced. The record company hated it (too advanced for their minds) and only after pressure from the band did they agree to print 25k albums. Needless to say it blew up big time and the execs had to eat crow. Their concerts are almost unsurpassed, but no matter the talent, there is nothing better than the studio recording. Claire, of course, is a bonafide legend. Dark Side still moves after 50 years!!! I just wish I could hear it for the first time again. Meltdown with 15 people. Take care LFR. I'll be watching your other reactions for sure.
The original recording is just one lady. Clare Torry.
Back in O.C. Calif when I was 27 my wife heard a commercial on the radio about a P.F. show coming up. Knowing I am a Floyd fan she called the radio station (KMET - LA, “The Mighty Met”) to get information on the concert, The DJ on live radio Cynthia Fox…. said...."Congratulations, YOU are caller number 10, YOU just won tickets to the show and the Sound Check Party before the show"...
I met David Gilmour back stage. He gave us both a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know. . I told him in my eyes he’s a “Legend“. He thanked me and said “Enjoy the show”…. during the concert after the song “Money” he looked right at me and said…. “On saxophone, another Legend, Mr. Scott Page” … acknowledging my comment to him. It is my favorite moment in over 300 shows I’ve seen.
All of us fortunate enough to have seen this show live were in a TRANCE.... MESMERIZED the entire show... as you can imagine. We walked out saying.... What did we just witness? That was out of this world incredible.
I had never seen that echoes until your reaction. That jam at the end was the funkiest sh*t ever.
I was born in 1977 and my dad was the biggest Floyd fan I've ever known. He's told me that after putting me to bed as a toddler he would come check on me, and my bedroom wall being behind the living room speakers is where he would find me curled up. He would pick me up but only after the ALBUM was over and put me back in bed. And I never stirred. I don't remember it, but with the love that I have for them to this day, I'm not surprised.
This is still a better version, and I've seen both live. This is the Delicate Sound Of Thunder Tour version:
ua-cam.com/video/Ke9y_yfwJtg/v-deo.html
horrible versions. Singer has an annoying squeaky voice. This version is way better
Great reaction! This song and Sam Brown moves everyone.
I don't think you've done it yet, but "Coming Back to Life" is some of Gilmour's greatest guitar work, and it's also from the Pulse tour.
No disrespect to these beautiful voices.....but Clare Torry..... masterful!!!!!!
I love you man it's defo poetry!! Heard of them first when I was 17 and that was it!!!! Top class stunning!!! You know when you're a teenager you think no-one understood you I though Pink Floyd did really and they did
See David Gilmour sing SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND live with Crosby and Nash EXCELLENT
my favorite song is TIME but live you have to listen to COMFORTABLY NUMB
Hey Van.... Seriously, your subscribers will react like never before.....4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song.
“TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank You.

You need to hear Pink Floyd’s studio versions before hearing/seeing them. Yes, headphones but Way WAY BETTER in the studio!!!!
Who doesn't know the famous British band STATUS QUO and their songs are ROCKIN ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN THE ARMY NOW, RED SKY
not only should you watch Pink Floyd, live, but also David Gilmour, as a solo artist. i recommend 'On An Island', live on the 'Remember that Night' concert, with Crosby and Nash as backing singers. also, 'In Any Tongue' live at Pompeii, 2016, 'Fat Old Sun', live at Gdansk, 'Great Day For Freedom', also live at Gdansk, 'Faces Of Stone', live at Pompeii, 2016 and finally, 'Where We Start', live at Gdansk. they're all fantastic songs
To get a better understanding about “Pink Floyd” music you should get some background. Once you start at the beginning, everything will make more sense and you will have even more of a appreciation for them as not only musicians but as humans, regarding SYD BARRETT, the Original Lead Vocalist/Writer/Guitarist of the band. SYD BARRETT played a very important role. The best way to do that is to watch each band member do an interview, where SYD is mentioned. SYD always comes up and there is much Love.
Every album has a reference or even a tribute to SYD BARRETT. The very last song recorded with SYD is called JUGBAND BLUES. It pretty much sums up the tragedy. The words are what and where SYD’s mind was at. I cried for him as he knew it was over in his 20’s.
You have to listen to the original. These women were INCREDIBLE no doubt. ,
Bro, the original (studio) version (on Dark Side of the Moon) is the BEST. Sung by Clare Torrey, recorded on the 2nd take!
Dude...you didn't blink for 20 seconds, at one point, during the first singer! I thought your camera froze 😂😂
I have lived in cowboy country, in Texas , all my 52 years of life. Don't F*** with a real black cowboy. Black, White , Latino, Asian, etc. we all wear cowboy hats on the farm. Jamie Foxx is a good actor but he's half the man of the real deal.
Looks like this is from the pulse conert. checkout "Comfortly Numb", with Dave Gilmore's guitar solo rated by many as the best ever.
If you want to actually SEE the Original lady Clare Torry perform this live, check out Pink Floyd Live at Knobworth. Clare is one special lady and a true gift.
If you like Floyd give David Gilmour some love to his solo work. Not big productions but musically you can hear how good his guitar work. Dave's " live at Gdansk" Take a Breathe, On an Island, the Blue, Echoes ( last time he would play this do to Rick death Keyboards. all tens. Dave " live at Pompeii" In any Tongue" rattle that lock" last time he plays " Comfortably numb" ( over 125 million views) Dave the only person to play in the Amphitheater since 79 AD. twice. any song from these to solo will be well worth seeing.
Pink Floyd live? How about "Run Like Hell" from the Pulse concert 1994 I believe!
Please, the album version for this one, please! You are seeing the name Claire Torry....you must hear her, it will blow your mind. Also continuity is key with ALL Pink Floyd. The less interruptions the better.
"Pink Floyd their is no higher." - BEAVIS and BUTT-HEAD.
They were so good to see in person. One of my favorite memories❤❤
The first female singer is Sam Brown, daughter of 69s singer Joe Brown. One of my favourite songs by her is "Stop". Maybe try it?
Too bad you didn’t listen to the vocal creator & original singer for The Great Gig In The Sky. Clare Torrey only appears on the original LP Dark Side Of The Moon from 1973. The live version is good, but listen to the original for your own pleasure. Video not required.

"She sound like a black woman"....wait for it...wait for it...wait for it.....There she is.
HIGH HOPES in the Version of David Gilmour Live at Gdansk
Listen to the Album, Its Clare Torry, who did it in ONE TAKE & asked if it was Ok!!!
They have their own genre ❤
Solid as always. Take a listen to Eva Avila with Brit Floyd doing this. These voices are a true gift to music lovers.
Your facial expressions are priceless! Especially at 2:45 and when you realized they switched singers at 3:55 - Love your reaction videos!
3:39. "Sounds like a black woman" To me, sounds like a woman. No disrespect.
Definitely need to listen to the studio version
A must!!!
nope this version is the best and I have seen them all
What happened to your face Van!🤣. Priceless...
You sing great!❤
Clara Torey she's the original, the studio álbum is even greather !!!
Dude. Pink Floyd IS their own GENRE...
You've got to hear the studio original version. Clare Torrey blows them all away.
I think Gilmour liked the last gal because he quit playing just to watch her towards the end. P.S. There are a lot of people who say this song is very similar to the 5 stages of dying. Denial not having anyone singing and the music still playing then Coming in with fire and passion as they rage about it, then taking it down a notch then bargaining in the middle. Then working your way through the depression and finally getting to acceptance of your fate at the end. Clare Torry did it better, but they did it very well too.
Hey you want a rarely covered Pink Floyd song try " When the tigers broke free" which tells the story of Roger Waters loss of his father in WW2 .
If you really really want to experience Pink Floyd grab yourself a half a dozen cocktails the finest the car you can get kick back and relax and enjoy
