When I listened to rush Limbaugh as a kid I never laughed at many of his jokes as I assumed as an adult his jokes went over my head. I grew up and realized that they were just awful.

I can tell you with out a doubt, that illegal immigrants canNOT receive medicare, medicaid, social security, food stamps, unemployment, etc. If a member of your family is a citizen and THEY qualify for assistance then great, otherwise you are on your own. Hell, even with DACA, I do not qualify for any protections or safety net programs. Workers comp? Nope. Unemployment? Nope. Disability? Nope. But I still pay for it in my taxes; and I'm damn proud that I can give back to my community too.

One of the most eye-opening books I've ever read was a textbook that gave an overview of every major immigration wave. Vaush is 100% correct, EVERY single group was met with the same level of vitriol. The difference is it was very easy for Italians, Germans, etc to shed their image by assimilating into the dominant group (AKA they were white-passing) The reason why other groups have not been able to assimilate is literally skin color. It's a joke that Crowder pretends race doesn't have anything to do with it

When I split with my ex a couple years ago she was starting to watch and repeat crowder and Shapiro….which freaked me out at the time and nowadays she’s all in. I used to be like center-right and due to mental health being a pretty taboo topic there, *especially* amongst men, a crapton of these people are severely mentally ill and in complete denial of it. Not that it doesn't happen on the left either ofc, but way less.
Nah, all it takes is some base authoritarian tendencies expressed to any significant (not necessarily radical, just significant) extent and being raised in an already conservative social environment (like many monocultural rural and suburban communities) and boom you have people who adopt conservative beliefs because it's what's socially convenient. The same thing happens with many liberals, adopting a political stance because that's what everyone else around them is claiming to represent. This is because this an authoritarian tendency is a natural cognitive bias within humans, and is expressed in a continuum within people. This isn't entirely bad, we can agree that pissing and shitting into the drinking well is Bad Idea and making it a Rule means that people will have an inclination to follow said rule. The Rule can also be stuff about Prima Nocta and not wearing blue shirts, which aren't Good Ideas but people will still (mostly) follow them regardless. Oh, also do note that despite my metaphor, authoritarianism doesn't necessarily mean always agreeing with authority figures, it's more like a defensiveness to the pre-established societal hierarchies. This community imprinting hardly ever happens with leftists, mostly because there's a large cultural push at many levels of society to present leftist ideas as ridiculous and worth ostracizing. So those with significant or extreme expressions of antiauthoritarianism (which is really more of a low end expression of authoritarianism) will be more likely or more easily to adopt leftist beliefs. This comes with its own disadvantages, however. Being so chockful of antiauthoritarians means that they're more likely to distrust people who say they agree with shared beliefs rather than people that disagree, and they are less likely to fall in line with commands and edicts. The most that actual mental illness can affect such expressions is maybe increasing the fear and anxiety experienced by an individual. Fear has a tendency to magnify ones expression of authoritarianism (see post 9/11 America for example), so there may be some influence there. But at the same time, most expressions of authoritarian fear are themselves caused by an authoritarian mindset, which studies have shown to have a greater self reported fear reaction to stimuli. The brain is weird, but conservatives and racists aren't crazy they're just humans with very natural human cognitive biases. Not a justification for the behavior, we can be more than just cognitive biases, but at least a partial explanation.
It'd be impossible to get that kind of data considering the vast majority of these people would dismiss the idea of mental health or therapy as a concept, so unless they're severely mentally ill to the point of being diagnosed after a crime, it'd be impossible to know. I'd say it's probably a decently high amount though. Fascism is basically just mental illness and insexurity manifesting into an entire ideology.

I used to watch people like Sargon and the big thing I think you're missing is the fact that on most of the right, admitting you are mentally ill and talking about it is frowned upon and instantly destroys your credibility (as a man at least). As such you have a lot of heavily mentally ill people on the right living in denial of the fact they are. Again these people exist on the left too but due to mental health being significantly more talked about as a topic I think it happens much less on the left. And polling demonstrates that, the far right is "less mentally ill" than the far left. Considering what I know from my time there, they are *more*. Not orders of magnitude more or something, but more. And in my personal experience drifting to the right heavily negatively impacted my mental health until I was pushed away in 2016. But being neurodivergent is in general much more common than a lot of people would like to admit.

I'm disabled and depend on SSI, having to pay for a new voter ID would be a struggle. Also, I can't drive and public transportation sucks, so having to go in person to get a new id is also a challenge.

One could apply for a Mail-in Ballot which doesn't _need_ a photo ID. Next, Provincial Health Cards are provided for free, however, not everyone has the updated Photo-versions, so they aren't mandatory either, but in a couple of decades it wouldn't matter. In USA, forcing people to have a Voter ID is illegal because it becomes a _Poll Tax._
They will keep changing the goal post even if we submitted to doing voter ID they would find some other thing to demand to be put on top of that. The US has a long history of classing Latinos as white that started when we annexed Texas, which was filled with "Tejanos" (descendants of Spanish colonisers, almost always with _significant_ native American ancestry), from Mexico. It was a way of giving them legally recognized rights (even though we discriminated against them anyway whoops) and it's just sort of, stuck around since. So you can actually find a lot of records of Latino soldiers in, say, world war 2 who are marked "Caucasian", and you wouldn't know they were Latino until you saw a picture of them or in some cases checked the (I'm not joking) skin color classification they were given. It's a problem for some historians. Lots of Latinos still tell me they don't identify as white, but are just told to put it on the census and get accustomed to doing it, even though they don't personally identify as such and aren't seen as it. Just a bit of context for why we probably shouldn't include "Hispanic white" as "white" when talking overall population statistics.

What I love about their hypocrisy on the "we didn't have safety nets back then" point is that the reason those safety nets that we all benefit from exist is because of immigrants voting in the interest of the working class to get them done. A lot of the momentum in the US behind the labor movement and the pressure on FDR to get expansive safety nets passed in the aftermath of the great depression came from immigrants. The Colorado Coalfield Wars were started after eastern European workers demanded better conditions. The push to enshrine some of the first labor laws in the country came from Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants who lived in New York and collected political power in Tammany Hall. The strikes that helped bring labor regulations to the Rust Belt states came from the immigrants working in the steel mills and train yards all over that region. So what he is really saying is that he hates safety nets, and wants them destroyed, not that immigrants are benefiting unduly from them.

Even if it wasn't a dogwhistle, whenever an American says that we have "similar cultures" I cringe really hard as a European. Some people seem to forget exactly how hard it is to get an ID; Seriously, you can be denied certain IDs if your presented information looks like this: 1) Street name 2) Street name ave. IF your credentials look like numbers 1 and 2 for the documents you presented, you can be denied an ID (for simply missing "ave" in one). Bear in mind, one of the things you need to present to get an ID is your birth certificate and Social security number, which are things that aren't exactly possible to edit. Conservatives don't seem to comprehend how difficult some of those things are to acquire (or they do and are doing it explicitly to hurt others).
The ID thing can be a real nightmare. I was born & lived in Calif for 40 years, then moved out of state for 7 years, then came back. Went to DMV to renew my drivers license & it was flagged. Why? Because Bush changed the laws & I hadn't changed my name on my social security card when I got married & it didn't match the name on my drivers license which btw is hyphenated. So I couldn't get a Calif license until I updated my social security card which required going to the main office. By the time I was able to get down there, my out of state license expired & the social security office wouldn't accept it as a valid form of ID to prove who I was. It took forever to get it changed. When it finally was I went back to DMV to get a state ID & they wouldn't accept my birth certificate because it was a hospital copy & not a county copy. Ok, we finally got that & then they needed something else like proof of ownership of something. Luckily my name is on our car registration. I honestly don't know how a senior on limited income or anyone on limited income could jump thru all those hoops. It's easier to find yourself "undocumented" than you think. I had no legal ID for a few years because of governmental BS. It could have kept me from getting medical treatment since they often ask for your ID & insurance card when you go in. Grrrr.

I used to be like center-right and due to mental health being a pretty taboo topic there, *especially* amongst men, a crapton of these people are severely mentally ill and in complete denial of it. Not that it doesn't happen on the left either ofc, but way less.
Nah, all it takes is some base authoritarian tendencies expressed to any significant (not necessarily radical, just significant) extent and being raised in an already conservative social environment (like many monocultural rural and suburban communities) and boom you have people who adopt conservative beliefs because it's what's socially convenient.
The same thing happens with many liberals, adopting a political stance because that's what everyone else around them is claiming to represent.
This is because this an authoritarian tendency is a natural cognitive bias within humans, and is expressed in a continuum within people. This isn't entirely bad, we can agree that pissing and shitting into the drinking well is Bad Idea and making it a Rule means that people will have an inclination to follow said rule. The Rule can also be stuff about Prima Nocta and not wearing blue shirts, which aren't Good Ideas but people will still (mostly) follow them regardless.
Oh, also do note that despite my metaphor, authoritarianism doesn't necessarily mean always agreeing with authority figures, it's more like a defensiveness to the pre-established societal hierarchies.
This community imprinting hardly ever happens with leftists, mostly because there's a large cultural push at many levels of society to present leftist ideas as ridiculous and worth ostracizing. So those with significant or extreme expressions of antiauthoritarianism (which is really more of a low end expression of authoritarianism) will be more likely or more easily to adopt leftist beliefs. This comes with its own disadvantages, however. Being so chockful of antiauthoritarians means that they're more likely to distrust people who say they agree with shared beliefs rather than people that disagree, and they are less likely to fall in line with commands and edicts.
The most that actual mental illness can affect such expressions is maybe increasing the fear and anxiety experienced by an individual. Fear has a tendency to magnify ones expression of authoritarianism (see post 9/11 America for example), so there may be some influence there. But at the same time, most expressions of authoritarian fear are themselves caused by an authoritarian mindset, which studies have shown to have a greater self reported fear reaction to stimuli.
The brain is weird, but conservatives and racists aren't crazy they're just humans with very natural human cognitive biases. Not a justification for the behavior, we can be more than just cognitive biases, but at least a partial explanation.
It'd be impossible to get that kind of data considering the vast majority of these people would dismiss the idea of mental health or therapy as a concept, so unless they're severely mentally ill to the point of being diagnosed after a crime, it'd be impossible to know.
I'd say it's probably a decently high amount though. Fascism is basically just mental illness and insexurity manifesting into an entire ideology.

I used to watch people like Sargon and the big thing I think you're missing is the fact that on most of the right, admitting you are mentally ill and talking about it is frowned upon and instantly destroys your credibility (as a man at least). As such you have a lot of heavily mentally ill people on the right living in denial of the fact they are. Again these people exist on the left too but due to mental health being significantly more talked about as a topic I think it happens much less on the left. And polling demonstrates that, the far right is "less mentally ill" than the far left. Considering what I know from my time there, they are *more*. Not orders of magnitude more or something, but more. And in my personal experience drifting to the right heavily negatively impacted my mental health until I was pushed away in 2016. But being neurodivergent is in general much more common than a lot of people would like to admit.

The US has a long history of classing Latinos as white that started when we annexed Texas, which was filled with "Tejanos" (descendants of Spanish colonisers, almost always with _significant_ native American ancestry), from Mexico. It was a way of giving them legally recognized rights (even though we discriminated against them anyway whoops) and it's just sort of, stuck around since. So you can actually find a lot of records of Latino soldiers in, say, world war 2 who are marked "Caucasian", and you wouldn't know they were Latino until you saw a picture of them or in some cases checked the (I'm not joking) skin color classification they were given. It's a problem for some historians. Lots of Latinos still tell me they don't identify as white, but are just told to put it on the census and get accustomed to doing it, even though they don't personally identify as such and aren't seen as it. Just a bit of context for why we probably shouldn't include "Hispanic white" as "white" when talking overall population statistics.

In ny country, argentina, the percentage of people considered "white" is about 85%.

What I love about their hypocrisy on the "we didn't have safety nets back then" point is that the reason those safety nets that we all benefit from exist is because of immigrants voting in the interest of the working class to get them done.

The strikes that helped bring labor regulations to the Rust Belt states came from the immigrants working in the steel mills and train yards all over that region.
So what he is really saying is that he hates safety nets, and wants them destroyed, not that immigrants are benefiting unduly from them.

Even if it wasn't a dogwhistle, whenever an American says that we have "similar cultures" I cringe really hard as a European. The culture here is not only so diverse that defining what similar even means is a joke, but everything I see about the US just seems far more foreign than most countries outside of Europe. Things like the flag worship, weapons being a right and the fact that Nationalism in the form of American Exceptionalism is just so strangely common that it gets taught in school under the guise of history makes the USA seem more like how the media portrays China than here. And I can say this confidently because the sources are all American! They love to talk about themselves, almost oblivious to how bad the state they're in looks on a global stage, probably due to the aforementioned nationalism. I guess Crowder meant neoliberalism or something, but that's hardly culture.

North American lifestyle and culture is so very different from any European nation. As someone from Spain, moving to Germany was relatively seamless (main barrier was the language) because day to day life was pretty much the same, but then I moved to Canada (where I figured it would easier for me since I’m fluent in English) and boy o boy, the culture shock was brutal! It is literal and figuratively a whole new world….
Hispanic people are still part of Western Culture. Just because they speak another Western language than them doesn't mean that they aren't Western.

Some people seem to forget exactly how hard it is to get an ID; Seriously, you can be denied certain IDs if your presented information looks like this:
1) Street name
2) Street name ave.
IF your credentials look like numbers 1 and 2 for the documents you presented, you can be denied an ID (for simply missing "ave" in one). Bear in mind, one of the things you need to present to get an ID is your birth certificate and Social security number, which are things that aren't exactly possible to edit. Conservatives don't seem to comprehend how difficult some of those things are to acquire (or they do and are doing it explicitly to hurt others).
The ID thing can be a real nightmare. I was born & lived in Calif for 40 years, then moved out of state for 7 years, then came back. Went to DMV to renew my drivers license & it was flagged. Why? Because Bush changed the laws & I hadn't changed my name on my social security card when I got married & it didn't match the name on my drivers license which btw is hyphenated. So I couldn't get a Calif license until I updated my social security card which required going to the main office. By the time I was able to get down there, my out of state license expired & the social security office wouldn't accept it as a valid form of ID to prove who I was. It took forever to get it changed. When it finally was I went back to DMV to get a state ID & they wouldn't accept my birth certificate because it was a hospital copy & not a county copy. Ok, we finally got that & then they needed something else like proof of ownership of something. Luckily my name is on our car registration. I honestly don't know how a senior on limited income or anyone on limited income could jump thru all those hoops. It's easier to find yourself "undocumented" than you think. I had no legal ID for a few years because of governmental BS. It could have kept me from getting medical treatment since they often ask for your ID & insurance card when you go in. Grrrr.
