This woman was clearly having a PTSD episode. For someone who's got diagnosable symptoms of PTSD, such as from a rape, they often will not be able to avoid getting triggered by even very simple reminders of a trigger such as a touch, even an unintentional one. She needs support and to be removed from the negative stimulus and to a safe space. These are normal symptoms of PTSD. Please, understand, mental illness is not a joke. As Vaush said, someone in that state, their brain is temporarily soup. They are unable to cope. The man involved may not have even done anything intentionally wrong, but ffs, our society needs to have some semblance of mental health literacy.

Standing there in close proximity and pointing a camera at her while repeatedly initiating dialogue while she tries to hide her face and calm down, I'm sorry to tell you, is NOT going about his business lmao - it's staying in hers. He is within his right to film if he feels unsafe but he could have done that from a distance, maybe while waiting to give the manager a preemptive statement to cover himself, there were plenty of staff around her and there's a reason that even these underpaid undertrained employees knew to move him away from the situation to be served at another till. If there were no security cameras, then there's no evidence and it's word against word. But if there's CCTV (which is very likely), then there's already recording of everything, so him pulling out a phone in her face is pointless and only makes it worse.
If he really wanted to record for safety and just in case, he could've just turn on the camera and just hold the phone normally and discrectly recording everything. No need to hold it up.

Yeah if the recorder was a woman, I think his behavior would ~trigger~ way more people. Many of the viral videos of so called "Karens" that I've seen involved women who weren't screaming or physically violent. Just acting entitled, and/or having the wrong tone of voice. There are videos of "Karens" that with the volume off, look like they're behaving not that much differently than other "polite" women (to the comments saying this dude was being perfectly polite, etc.).
Plus, imagine if the woman being filmed was a dude.
The entire discourse would be centered on "how we don't take the rape of men seriously," "how we dismiss men's feelings," "this is why men don't seek treatment for mental illness," and "how awful it is that this woman saw this man having a mental health episode and decided to pull out her camera and film it and then post it on social media," etc. Mark my words. The woman would be labeled a bitch who took advantage of a male rape victim having a public breakdown in order to win some internet points and go viral on social media (and how "they're literally in public so it's not even like she was worried for her safety," etc.) (And they would be right to do so, because the post would almost definitely lead to a bunch of people online joking about how pathetic the male rape victim was acting, and it would still be a hugely inappropriate move to post it publicly online, etc.)

It's to the point that I have to conclude people who argue against this take in principle have the self-awareness of a grape.

I've sort of taught myself to find secluded places (usually a bathroom or my car, sometimes the freezers at work) to have any sort of breakdown. I've had violent panic attacks in public before and I always feel gross afterwards. Society has really stigmatized having abnormalities and I've definitely internalized it.
I feel bad for people who may not have mental health crises often enough to warrant having an 'escape plan'. Things like this can happen to people, even if they're usually mentally well, external factors can take their tolls.

I saw a video where a woman who'd been assaulted many years ago but still couldn't stand to be grabbed a certain way freaked out when a woman did that to her in a store, and then when one of the first security people to respond was a man it didn't help, because she was in a PTSD episode. But it worked out, the guy knew about PTSD so he knew how to handle the situation, he kept his distance, talked calmly, etc. to avoid making it worse. They eventually got the lady's husband there, and got her calm enough to talk about what had happened in the store. Fear responses are more instinctive than deliberate, people who've been assaulted- especially recently- tend to not be able to handle reminders of their trauma. Getting accidentally bumped wasn't deliberate, but since her trauma was fresh and she hadn't built up any coping strategies that didn't really matter. Him standing there making a video was okay, evidence-wise, but he probably should have moved farther when it became obvious what was going on and that his very proximity was now a problem. Now, maybe none of it would have happened if she hadn't tried to cut in line, maybe he wouldn't have touched her. But it's also possible that she was having anxiety issues being out in public and wanted to get home as soon as possible before anything could happen, and was just unlucky that her attempt to get home before then caused the very kind of thing she feared might happen. Now that's just speculation, but it's plausible enough. I hate people who try to cut lines just because they think their time is more valuable than anyone else's, or heir discomfort more important than theirs, but an active medical issue like an oncoming anxiety/panic attack, dangerously low blood sugar, etc. is a different matter. Since there's a very real possibility that that's what was going on, I'm not gonna even try to judge her for line jumping. She didn't claim he attacked her. She was saying she'd been attacked and couldn't be touched, it was both trying to explain what was happening/why and warn people not to do it again. Honestly, being in such a state in public is something I'm kind of afraid of. My panic attacks are very different, but that's because that visceral fight-or-flight reaction hasn't been fully triggered, it's just that I can't control my breathing (and that almost always turns into an asthma attack because obviously when you're anxious not being able to breathe always makes it better! /sarcasm), I may become unable to speak, my muscles tense up, and I may become physically ill, but no fight-or-flight. The last time someone managed to trigger that I was in middle school, and I ended up totally blacking out, and when my senses came back I was on a desk screaming in front of the entire classroom. I was SO embarrassed, and the guy, who hadn't realized I'd freak out like that over being chased with those stupid safety scissors, got suspended. I've always felt bad about that, he wasn't being malicious, he was joking and it went too far before he realized it. He had no way of knowing I'd been assaulted several times in elementary school, including an attempt on my life. He was my only friend in that class too.
