Sports big enough buddy
@@themusicman4u46582 Not even close. I live in a huge county in NY state and there is not a disc golf course. You have to drive 40-60 min to reach one.
Man this clinic is absolutely loaded with gems. I’m only 2/3rds the way through and already learned 4-5 new nuisances I haven’t heard discussed anywhere else.
As an oldish woman taking up new hobbies, this clinic changed my game. I could never get my steps correct without feeling like I was about to crash and burn; so I would always throw my backhand from a standstill with all arm. After watching this and practicing for about an hour, my next round had my backhand drives flying 75 feet further (and straight) with practically no strain on my arm since the power was coming from my core. Bravo, and thanks, for explaining the basics succinctly.
Never heard someone explain how baseball mechanics can mess up xstep timing. It's 100% what I've been doing. Total rounding. This was so helpful!
Love Paul’s teaching style
Wow! This is sooooo good! I’m trying to unlearn some of the old and learn the right way! Please do more of this! 🔥
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! Please keep recording pro clinics. This is amazing!
I love hearing instruction from 2 instructors covering same material from different perspectives. This is the best video I have found so far.
It’s a classic for sure! Thanks for tuning in!
37:20 absolute gem. This is very underlooked for side arm. You need to adjust your release and form depending on which disc you’re throwing
whispers: "THANK YOU"
Oh Uli! “Hit ‘em! I mean, watch out for that guy!” The kind of teacher that I should’ve had in high school. Keep being badass, good sir! Also, you guys have given me much food for thought and practice. Thank you!
Paul, you might be the man. Your technical approach to both commentating and teaching resonates, for real. The commentating example that first comes to mind is when you mentioned backhand timing being shifted when approaching up hill. It's the little Easter eggs like that, that gets me pumped up. Lol
This video is gold. My local course has some really short tees, and I lost the connection between right hand left foot because if it. You guys helped me regain timing, with more power than ever. I just got back from the field, threw backhands further and more fluid then ever.
Your guys' approach on the forehand was spot on too. Great distinguishing between US and OS release points.
Thank you! 🙇♂️🤙
I'm really glad I'm only a week into practicing a "reach back" which was wrecking my game. Thankfully, I caught this video and I'm going back to what was developing naturally after learning an x-step.
Brian earharts forehand discussion wad the best forehand talk I’ve ever seen. Hearing that disc out of his hand was butter
Thanks so much for making this available!!! This has really helped me so much. I’ve watched so many other clinics from others and this is awesome!
Probably one of the most informative videos on UA-cam right now
I was at this clinic. Nice to be able to watch it again to absorb more.
This is incredible. Thank you Paul, Brian and Gatekeeper.
Great coaching duo!!👏👏👏
I have been practicing Brian’s advice about the different forehand release points for discs with different speeds and stability. It has made a huge difference much less wobble now on under-stable discs when released closer to my side rather than farther out it front for a more over-stable disc. I’ve watched a ton of forehand videos nobody has ever said you needed to do this before.
Excellent video and clinic. These guys know how to explain the mechanics very well. The hardest part of learning to throw is many do not know how to explain or articulate. Thank you for the video.
I really like the way Uli explains the fundamentals!
This was very helpful! It helps when professionals share their time like this to help us all get the most enjoyment from playing while avoiding injuries from bad techniques
Paul talking about the heel/toe thing was exactly how I needed it explained to me. Thanks!!!
I've been playing off and on since mid 90's with an absence for the past 8 . Recommited this year and this was the BEST clinic I've ever seen 💯🔥🔥🔥
Wish someone had taught me this when I started. Playing 12 yrs and still suck but you MUST HAVE THE FUNDAMENTALS
I have never thrown a disc golf disc. My starter set came today and I have it here. I'm so glad I watched this first. Thank you.
Welcome to the sport!!!
@@GatekeeperMedia Thanks. At 64 I may have left it just a wee bit late Though.
@@caahacky It's never to late to have fun! That is what disc golf is all about - fun!
Probably one of the best clinics I have seen. They break down so many things!
The biggest tip for backhand accuracy and power is minding where your plant foot is. I noticed that some of my most powerful throws in the past came from putting my plant foot in line with my back foot, which resulted in grip lock, like Brian said. However, the form for a good shot was there, just in the wrong direction, and those were some of the most crisp and powerful shots I had ever thrown. Once you learn to harness that power but in the right direction by planting your foot correctly, your game really goes up to another level.
I have watched a lot of forehand videos. This is the only one that talked about different release points based on stability. Thanks!!! That was a gem!
Imagine getting a driving clinic with Dale Earnhardt, or a swimming lesson from Michael Phelps, or a chess lesson with Bobby Fischer?
Watching disc golf grow over the past ten years has been wonderful and the pros deserve almost every bit of the appreciation.
the best explanation of discgolf dynamic I have ever seen ... thank you
Wish there was a "love" button for this video instead of just a "like"!! NEW player here, and I threw a round earlier today. I was throwing much better shots, but they kept going right, aka I was grip-locking. I have also been reaching WAY back on my throws. I found this video after I got home and it explains PERFECTLY why I've been throwing right! I can't WAIT to get out to the field tomorrow!!
ive been playing on and off for 20 years and this finally made my bh form start to click. thank you Brian and Uli for this awesome video. my timing was all jacked up from tying my right leg and arm together without realizing it. i can't wait for my round today.
I think this is probably the best clinic I've ever watched, in fact I'm sure it is. Thank you guys! Excellent teachers.
For people - coaches and students - who can and like to break a throw down into physical fundamentals, this is excellent. I'm coming over from another sport where I am a coach (and was a participant at the professional level) who likes to use video as a training tool to slow things down and illustrate what is going well and where there is room for improvement. As a wrapper-still-on new disc golf player, I can film myself, break everything down, and compare against the concepts introduced here. Thanks so much for illustrating both the proper techniques as well as the pitfalls.
This is so nice to have. I started disc golfing a year ago. Pitcher and Qb my whole life always had crazy arm power. For the life of me I could only forehand for the better part of the first season I played, but having videos like this helped me learn so much more about the game and how do to certain things. I used to be so self conscious on the course because I really only had one shot and didn’t understand anything else, but these videos helped me to be more confident and learn so many new lines. Thank you, for helping get me to where I have progressed to today.
Sorry for the book lol
Thank you, Gatekeeper for filming this! It's fantastic to hear two different perspectives from two excellent teachers. Any more tutorial content in the works?
I really needed a video like this. I scored my first ever Par on an easy Par 3 course this week, and had to bust my ass for it. I've finally learned that playing =/= practice
wowza... this is a darned good lesson. two natural and very good teachers.
Excellent stuff! Thanks guys!
Best clinic of all time!!!
Pure Gold!
Committed to rebuilding my form from the ground up this year and this video is so helpful. Really well explained and easy to follow along! Thanks Brian, Paul and Gatekeeper.
This was one of the most informative videos I've ever watched. I understood every point and gained so much knowledge about not just my form but also on the analytical side of little things that most videos miss on. Thank you for this!
Besides the content, having the instructors mic'd and having high video quality and camera work is part of what makes this video so great.
whoa.. so i just went and shot at my usual course. last time i played a few days ago i shot a +1(one of my better scores). Today i threw about 20 practice drives in a field using this method. Im sure im missing my power pocket and what not still. but my accuracy and control increased greatly. distance was about the same maybe 10-20ft further than usual. I managed to finish -4 out there today with a decent wind kickin around. Thank you so much for this video. Cant wait to better develop my backhand form :)
I'm a bowler. The part where they demonstrate the footwork (like when he talks about not "rounding") reminds me a lot of proper bowling footwork and arm swing. The ball shouldn't go around you while in the approach, rather the bowler shoul go around the path of the ball, making the pendulum as straight as possible. Good explanation of the mechanics guys! Enjoyed it very much!
Best clinic I’ve come across. This cleared up so many misconceptions, and really broke down what I should be focusing on. Thank you so much for this video!
I learned how to throw forehand first and my footwork and everything really has been horrible on my front hand so I'm so glad I could see this.
Thanks for video.Definitely one of the best out there. I went out to try Paul’s forehand tips right after watching this, and it helped instantly… and it was such a simple fix: I needed to put a lot more spin in my forehand. Seeing Paul explain this and demonstrate how it was very helpful. Thank you! I’m looking forward to practicing putting like Paul explains too. Thanks again!
The step sequence taught here make it so simple to find a good rhythm. As a brand new beginner I really want to get the fundamentals correct from the beginning so I don't injure myself. They take all the stress away from thinking about toe weight and disc angle and stuff that they talk about at the club and focus on the basic movement instead. From just watching and trying it I can finally throw a driver farther than the midrange or putter. To get more power it just seems I have to continue practice and gradually the speed will increase as I move my body faster. Feels so great to have a single movement for all types of length shots. It literally has nothing to do with muscular effort.
I just started playing and I instantly got better after watching this. Thanks guys!
The amazing duo of teaching styles. Thank you both for sharing!!
Two Legends!
I was lucky enough to be there and my game has changed 💯. Thanks guys
Awesome lessons, thank you very much
Man this was such a good clinic! Great video. Uli and Earhart offer great teaching.
Great Video! Probably the best I've seen honestly. Gonna have my wife holding my disc while I work on my form to prevent the bad habits I developed form watching other videos (reach back). Never seen it taught like Uli did having Brian hold the disc and showing how your body should move around the disc. Also, so much great info on sidearm as well! Saving this video as I'm sure I'm gonna use it many more times in the future for reference! Greatly appreciated!
Glad I found this vid. Such a great instructional, guys! :) Kudos!
This is amazing! Like everyone else is saying, FINALLY!!!!
Great content Gatekeeper Media, Earhart, and Uliberri!
best video, by far!
It's crazy to see how bad my form was. I've been using these methods to do field work for about 3 weeks and 3 days and i now can reach 320+ft easier and I'm way smoother and like uli said 200ft and in its so much easy to land within 25ft and my accuracy has went way up! Highly recommend using this video to help!! 100000%
Great job Uli and Brian!
I loved the way you guys worked together. Fly long and straight boys...peace ✌🏼 ☮️
I swear, if you look at Brian at a certain angle, he looks like he could be Ricky Wysocki's brother.
Great way to wake up on a Sunday! We have tons of pro players in Colorado but are lacking in instruction. Thank you. I love the discussion about walking around your disc on throw. Chris Dickerson epitomizes this.
Both great communicators. I've played a lot of ultimate and freestyle frisbee just getting into disc golf with the pandemic. For me the trickiest bit has been putting and getting big distance on sidearms. It's hard to digest all these disparate form breakdowns but this one felt relatable. Slowing down with a focus on release points makes a lot of sense.
Thanks!
Thank you!
this was so excellent. i really appreciate this content
I just love Paul, you can tell he's such a workhorse. The way over-thinking kinda workhorse, very relatable. Problem is, you can't start unthinking so you gotta think it through *then* simplify or get stuck in your head.
Amazing video guys, both of you so well spoken! 👍👏
Thank you this made so much sense to me especially with the backhand. Thank you again it’s really helped me alot.
Thank you so much . . . I was throwing like a baseball player & griplocked so mamy times. So going to use your technique when I go out this week 🙏🏽💖✌🏽
Thank you so much for filming this. This answered soooo many of questions I have about my own form
Best, content, ever!! More more!
Thing Paul talks about @ 12:00 is what I had to fix recently and even tho its kinda hard to fix it makes a big difference!
Just got into this sport 👍
This is fire
This is gold.
38:56
I always wanted to explain initial under stability of flicks to ppl. Now I can. 🥏👍
Pauls muscle it show was more controlled and went straighter, less chance of side flare skips. It also works in the woods which is every course I play...
Interesting...a lot of what is being discussed here is what I feel I was doing naturally and I've made a number of changes based on what I've been told or watched that just didn't seem to help. Now I know why.
This is so great
22:24 I swear this fly is on every teebox in Michigan.
Brian is very good at explaining! ( both guys are but I haven't seen So Much from Bryan earlier)
I'm a self taught Am just at one year in. I was pleasantly surprised to hear Paul's putting advice matching how I practice. Every putting practice, or warmup before tourney/leagues I start a 10 feet. I try to make the stroke there normal and what I would use farther out. I do a ladder drill with 4 discs moving back 2.5 feet each time a clear the distance. Make 4, move back 2.5 more feet. Make 3, stay there, make 2, get 2.5 feet closer, make one, get 5 feet closer. It makes you earn the distance. You learn where you start to miss putts and then you can focus more there. I also use a different putting form for outside of the circle and more of a throw,
hell yeah
As a former professional golfer, putting is where you have to be automatic . Then your head starts getting in the way! Looks to be the same with the disc game
I never thought about the reachback and how much force i put when i throw. Maybe my shoulder will not be hurting after i start implementing these steps
I have messed up knees but want to enjoy this sport. I am also in my 60's, is there a way to throw and get a decent distance?
Loving the commercials every 3 minute.
Awesome!
Can somebody here show or speak to the backhand grip? When I first learned I was taught to align with the crease in the hand parallel with the fingers to “keep the nose down” I now understand how important it is to whip the arm using the legs and allowing the disc to pivot out of the hand… so should I grip to maximize this and adjust other parts to align for the angle of the disc coming out of my hand?
“tHANK yOU”
Thanks for the amazing video!
p.s I'm gonna write some notes under this comment for myself when I revise this video :)
18:00-18:10 Beautiful visual of how to move your body around the disc
26:40 tempo instuction
I was IN the second I saw that fine mustache 🤌🤌🤌
I think there was a 15 second interval in there where you forgot to put in an ad.
Question: when chopping an OS disc high infrontnof you, you let it "rip" out of yr hand? And when popping an US disc low from you side, you instead "let go" of the disc? / Thx
