I am the guy sitting in the background with the neon green hat. This clinic not only changed my game, it changed my life. Very grateful this was filmed for me to relive it and remember the keys to success; also grateful this is available to everyone!
The greatest teacher IMHO. There's mechanics, and then there's flow. There are somee great mechanics teachers that I learn a lot from, but Philo teaches the flow of the movements. Whole new level.
1. 3.04 Line to the target. 2. 4.21 Good foundation for balance. 3. 5.05 Make up your mind which action. 4. 7.44 See the line, feel the line, throw the line. 5. 9.24 Rhythm Apple Pie.
Seriously this man is a legend when it comes to teaching the sport. I’ve watched plenty of videos trying to dial in my putt over the past few weeks. Watched Philo’s clinic one time, and things really clicked. Something about how he takes the technical forms and translates it to the natural movements of the body is incredible.
Coming from someone who is new to disk golf (and who wants to improve), I really appreciate the people, like Philo, who take the time to share their knowledge. I am so happy I have discovered this sport!! Challenging, but fun:)
This is one of those clinics that...when maybe you've been bustin' your hump working through the tough stages of learning the game...you see this, and so many things click for you. That wasn't just a clinic, that was a peek into a pro mindset. Thanks for the work on this.
Best thing I haven't heard yet, keep the disc in a lane from your body to the chains. Makes total sense and it's a good way to keep consistent. Totally thinking this from now on.
I have always heard that Philo was a great teacher but those were clearly people underselling his ability to impart knowledge. That was awesome, I didn't anticipate taking notes lol.
Such a great dude Philo. He was born to teach and we are lucky to be able to absorb this knowledge. Definitely going to try and implement this in my game!
@@Discgolfexaminer Where do you learn about these things. I live in the city and I've wanted to get more into playing with groups and going to something like this. Only issue is I'm in Europe till Oct.
One of the last things he said rings true for anything in life. We are very fortunate to have fast information at our fingertips at any time. "The information is out there. You just have to go get it" creates such a line in the sand for everyone. Will you take the leap? Or continue to look across the line wondering if you should.
Thank you for this. This dude is a wonderful teacher he knows his stuff but more importantly he knows how to explain it to make it easy to understand for new people. A big Thank you to everyone involved
Philo is so inspirational, pedagogical. Imagine the world being run by humble, heart loving, dedicated persons like him! I’m not saying he should run for president, but this world is in need of smart, kind and inspirational persons like him. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Philo. Keep doing what you do and spread the love!
I watch this video often just to get me back in touch with things I’m struggling with. Can’t recommend it enough for anyone trying to get a little better every round
"Apple Pie" in ball golf we used to say "Ernie Els." "Ernie" on the backswing and "Els" on the front swing. Same thing, different sport. Good advice, especially for tempo
Loved the video. Laughed my ass off when I realized at 35:25 that the girl in the tank top was actually two girls dressed alike! Thought I was losing my mind since she was morphing back and forth lol.
Wow, lightbulbs going off right and left.. He's super relatable and had very good explanations. Sadly he did an excellent impression of me on his bad putt examples. 😂
What I find interesting is Scott Stokely teaches the exact opposite when it comes to putting stance. He says think of it like a sprinter on the starting blocks. Staggered but straight in line and while I have felt that this has helped my putting immensely, I also can relate to Philo about the restriction in motion. I think finding a happy medium for your body is key. We are all not gonna reach down like Rick. Another fantastic tip I heard was Paige Pierce saying imagine there are 3 pairs or eyes on your body. Eyes, Shoulders and hips. They all want to look at the basket.
I like a lot of Scott's lessons but he is very clinical and explicitly says he thinks there is 1 right way to do everything. Philo is much more relaxed and rhythm based. For example I found a Stokely video from 2015 saying the spin putt is wrong and will go away because push putt is correct. Obviously he was wrong there as some of the best putters in the world now are heavy spin or hybrid.
Is Philo former military? He speaks as if he has military experience. So likeable and knowledgeable. Would love to shoot a round with him and absorb his suggestions.
Philo. It's been a long time since I've played a round with you. In 2000 I had to stop due to injuries. I'm so glad to see you " paying it back" to the players that want to be better but don't know how to become better. At a boy my friend. Riley #3948
I'm only ever going to be mediocre... but at 55, and only starting 2 years ago, I'm REALLY happy with where I am. In those 55 years I have learnt a few things... but because they work for me, it doesn't mean it will work for you... Stretching... OK so I've ridden skateboards sub 10yo, sort of a gap other than general sport up to 16, then trail riding (motorbikes) up to 50, Indoor Soccer from 20-30. Indoor netball from 30 to 50, downhill MTB 50-now... so sort of active... and I'm average build.. not overweight (even though I eat crap)... so... where was I going with this... For me... stretching is not a thing... 55 years and I could probably count time spent stretching may be an hour or two... in 55 years... BUT..... warm up... Stretching often done wrong will literally STRETCH the muscles you want to work right to the limit... but if you stretch them... your weakening that limit... 'Stretching' and be like taking 100 throws... How many shots do you have in you per session... do you want to waste 100 of them... Warm up your muscles... that means start slow and work up... You are literally warming the muscles (that work better warm than cold), your getting the blood flowing... and don't just do it before you 'Go'... go for the odd 30 second jog... jog up some stairs...soft but energetic... and as I say... it's different for everyone... I have a family friend that used to ride to local farm land type Triathlons, place 1-3rd... then ride home... and that's about all I question in the vid... Everything els is excellent.. and I still can't get 'Apple Pie' out of my head (which is a good thing)... Basically think 'Warm up' your muscles... because you want them warm Don't 'Stretch' your muscles.... think about it... Ever gone for a run and 'Stretched a muscle'... it's sort of the same... you can over extend and 'actually 'Stretch' something doing stretches from cold. Take your bag off your shoulder and carry it in one, then the other arm walking from the car park... envision some puts without doing the throw... Just don't step up and drive with your 1st shot... (Or you'll stretch something). q8D
This is a goldmine of important knowledge articulated in a way the average disc golfer can easily understand. Philo you are a true class act!!
I am the guy sitting in the background with the neon green hat. This clinic not only changed my game, it changed my life. Very grateful this was filmed for me to relive it and remember the keys to success; also grateful this is available to everyone!
He'd laid down more mental education than putting instruction. Don't sleep on this video
He taught a lot in that time! Hehe. It was originally supposed to be about putting, but the Q&A talked about it all and Philo didn't mind sharing!
"You have to love the game even when things aren't going your way."
That was a great tip
a tip that philo does not follow himself lol
Philo for president 2024! Honestly though, could he be anymore genuine, kind, relatable, wise...? Great coach
You can't spell philosophy without philo! Facts!

Amen! Seriously, I keep thinking about "Apple Pie" every time I putt!
Well Put!

Philo is simply the best at talking disc golf. He breaks it down in such a relatable way while maintaining the fun that brought us all to the game.
Philo is the best disc golf instructor and it isn’t close.
Best thing I haven't heard yet, keep the disc in a lane from your body to the chains. Makes total sense and it's a good way to keep consistent. Totally thinking this from now on.
I've been thinking about that too, plus apple pie. It has really helped my putts. I feel more consistent inside the circle.
I have always heard that Philo was a great teacher but those were clearly people underselling his ability to impart knowledge. That was awesome, I didn't anticipate taking notes lol.
Philo is a golfer. Period. It's the same game with a ball or disc. Great info.
Philo, you are an encyclopedia of knowledge! Great guy, great ambassador to the sport.
Yeah philo is great. He was in sweden a couple weeks ago 30 minutes from my home but I found out too late 😭
Philo is truly genuine.

If I was not stuck in out of town I would have came to this for sure. No idea this was happening. Wish I would have known.

So glad you got something from it!!
I love watching this guy teach. Confidence.

He made it so simple, but he also conveyed so much at the same time. Can’t wait to apply this

Best natural teacher in the game. Legend
"Apple Pie" in ball golf we used to say "Ernie Els." "Ernie" on the backswing and "Els" on the front swing. Same thing, different sport. Good advice, especially for tempo

The skateboard thing you talked about was a huge help. Thanks, Philo!

Love the honesty and perseverance perspective. Great advice for life let alone frolf.
AH-PUL-PIE say it again! Thanks for sharing this video!
Using the legs is so true. That is the biggest thing for me. I know the instant I release the disc that I missed when I get lazy.
This video has helped my putting so much. Still not very good, but I’m atleast putting with alot more intention and starting to see more consistency.
Philo is awesome I connect with his lessons
Agreed! He's so approachable too!
We need a Philo clinic in FL this winter!!!
Never seen him train. Dynamic delivery.
Great information 💪🏼🥏🔥🙏🏼

I like the way that he explains things. He makes sure that you understand what you're doing out there and includes great detail.
that HeMan refrence threw me back lmfao, but it made complete sense!
