I am semi new to this hot stamping process. I have tried 5 different irons, found out wattage is the heat, something around 1750-1900 watts irons. Still doesn’t get the pads as hot as they need to be. 360-400degrees is the key temp. I am working with a company to make a small 8”x10” heat resistant silicone plug in pad that will reach 400degrees. I do not like sir sting my lures with anything, you shoukd not hv to Surat adhesive or paint to a lure blank to get holographic foil to stick. Just messes up your pads. ( my personal opinion). The problem with the irons today is they are auto shut off which kills the process of heating pad up unless you stay on top of iron keep it moving. Good quality foil, patience, I had to learn, waiting on the 400 degree plug in pad. I cannot find a iron to get to 400 degrees temp. I placed a digital thermometer btwn irons and pads, never got it hotter than 315 degrees, hope this helps
Excellent video as always and great information given. I've started doing this a few weeks ago and I bought everything from Ali Express including 12 meters of foil for ten U.K. pounds and they also do many different colours too. I use the Alclad Gloss white primer which stays sticky for around 40 minutes or so and I can also spray it through my airbrush. I've also used their black gloss primer which gives another darker effect to the lure. The only thing I do different to you is after I use the iron I then go over both sides with a hairdryer set on very hot. I then take a hand held rubber roller similar to a paint roller but smaller at around 10 cm wide and I go over the lure with this. Doing it this way I can use a lot more pressure and it insures all of the foil sticks to the lure. I did start off with a different primer with not very good results but with the Alclad it works really well as having it slightly tacky is they key. I also wait about 15 minutes until the lure is cold to the touch before pealing off the plastic backing, too early and some of the foil comes off with it. Thanks again and keep up the good work my friend, I always look forward to your videos as you've taught me so much.

thank you very much for Very nice video but I have a question please , you are used the primary spray to gain sticky, we can use hair spray instead of ?
You are welcome, never tried hairspray. It might work but I am not sure how well it is going to addhere to the lure and produce a quality lure. Trying will tell 👍😄
I have tested that too and it works really well, only downside is that the addhesive spray i used was kinda thick and left an uneven surface or texture. Also I needed to let the glue dry longer because i pressed it while still a little wet and that caused the foil to "slide" and move around, creating wrinkles and uneven results. But it was doable if you would manage to put on a thin layer with it
With a heat gun it is harder to heat larger areas at a time with a consistent temperature. With a heat gun you can also melt down your lures ( been there done that :D haha) The pressure is necesarry for the foil to addhere to the lure 👍
Any idea my friend why i did not succeed 100%?I managed to transfer the foil, bad there are holloe spots where the foil failed to stick.I have a philips iron too and used on wool setting too
I would suggest trying a different primer and see of that works, also lightly sanding your lure could help. When a surfave is too smooth the foil sometimes does not want to stick. Hope that works!
Thank you! It all depends on the type of foil, if the gift paper foil is transferable then it might work. If it is something you need to glue onto a surface without heat, i would suggest trying a sprayglue and wrapping the lure with it. Only trial and error will tell 😉
I did that in the beginning but found that it was harder to apply good pressure in the small cracks and crevasses. By hand I have a better feeling where and how to put pressure when the lures are more detailed. But that is different for everyone ofcourse 😉 👍
Hi, I tried this technique last night and side one came out perfect 👍. Side 2 as well BUT in the process of doing side 2 , I ruined side1 . How do you prevent this. I didn’t realize how fragile the foil is. Also do you apply a clear to the foil after application. If so what do you recommend. Thanks
Hi! Awesome to hear that it succeeded!! 👊 the only tip I can give you is to try to make as less friction as possible when pressing. As you said the foil is super thin and sensitive. The more you press straight on the lure without friction the better. I like to put a clear coat on the foil afterwards. This will hide the seams, protect the foil and if you make a mistake you can wipe it off. Also I believe it will keep the foil more shiny as the paint Is not in direct contact with the foil. Any clearcoat can be used for this. Waterbased, 2k clear, kbs, epoxy. Whatever you prefer 👍👍 And thank you for the support! That foil you chose is awesome! 😁
Have you ever put a thermometer under your iron and silicone pad before I would love to know the temp your stamping at? I can’t get a iron to go over 345 degrees

Started off with a 29.95 dollar iron, each time I take them back I move up finally figured out it’s the wattage I’m looking for, I’m up to a 1725 watt iron but nothing ever comes out the way all the stampers lures turn out. It’s pretty much cut and dry the process of hot stamping lures. Don’t know why in the hell it’s so hard fir me to get the damn foil to stick. I clean the lure off with a acetone wipe down. I even wear powder free gloves, so frustrated. Found out the hard way the small silicone pads will break a window, so don’t get mad and throw it. Would love to know what I’m doing wrong, the iron cuts off if not moved every couple minutes I hate that, looking for a silicon pad with a built in heater that reaches 375-400 degrees if they even make one
I've seen some on UA-cam using a sandwich press or a George Forman grill. They heat both pads on there and check the temperature with a thermometer. Once it hits the right temperature they put the lure and foil in between the pads and close the grill shut. I don't think my Mrs would be happy with me using our sandwich press but it does seem to work.
Is it ok to paint over the foil ... like I wanna go purple Another question can you paint over the clear coat after like .. foil your bait and clear coat it and paint over it ...
Hello ; Everything is perfect with hot or transfer printing holograms. However, 2k acrylic varnish burns the hologram, sometimes it becomes very dull and the hologram becomes invisible. Your advice is important to me. Thank you.
Hi! The only thing i can suggest is to try another type of clear coat such as a 2K urethane automotive clearcoat, an epoxy or other type of clear coat depending on where you live and what you can find there. You could also use a midcoat, protecting the foil first. I sometimes use a cheap and easy waterbased wood varnish to seal my foil. So that the other coat does not affect the foil ;) that should do the trick!
Is the airbrush paint waterbased? Because it does not work with waterbased paints. Primers usually are better because you layer them on thicker and are easy to come by as a solvent based paint in spraycans. Try it with a different paint and see if that works 👌
Hi! Unfortunately we do not ship to the UK sorry, Some of our customers let it ship to neighbouring countries and then figure out a solution themselves to get it to them.
Thank you! That one I mainly dipped Vallejo model wash brown and dark green on the lure with a paper towel, and with a stencil sprayed a little createx wicked sepia and moss green 👌
That depends more on the clear coat you put on, If coated with a decent clear coat it holds really well. Here in Sweden I used an epoxy for some pike lures and then the foil/coat holds really well. Catches great on sunny or bright days
I either use an epoxy, both 2 component or UV. Or depending on the lure i sometimes use a waterbased polyurethane clear just because it dries quickly 👌
Thank you! Any glossy clear coat will enhance the effect, Could be anything you prefer to use. I use either a waterbased if i can dip the lure, an epoxy if it is a pike lure or a 2k clear coat if it is a jointed lure 👌
@@lureblanks Thanks for the tips! I'm putting some tests with diferent gloss below the foil and the best result so far os letting it drying minimum 12 hours. I dunno I do not or try not to dispute anyone’s process cause I may hv to resort to it one day. But I don’t like spraying my lures with anything, don’t feel you have to if the irons get pads hot enough. But will be trying your process this afternoon. Anyone interested, I’m working with a company to make a plug in pad that’s 1/2” thick 6” x 10” silicon heat resistant pad 12volts, and will reach a temp of 400 degrees, anyone interested you can comment me hopefully I can figure out how to retrieve any messages. Price is uncertain but going to try abs keep it under 75.00 U.S. dollars
Hot stamping without a primer is difficult process, my foils won't stick decently and even to a plastic blank without a primer, hot stamping machines could make the difference if you don't want to prime your lures but I have no experience with those so I am still uncertain. Raising the temperature alone is not enough, my old iron has no safety and on max temp I was able to melt my lure I the process and still the foil did not stick to the bait 🙃😅😅
hi there. What clear coat have you used? i had found that my clear coat some how faded the foil slightly and the colours did not show than much. Thanks
I either use a waterbased clear coat as quick intercoat when it is not finished yet. When it is a solid piece lure I like to use an epoy to finish the lure. If it is a jointed lure then I use a 2K clear coat. Hope this helps! :D
@@lureblanks so you spray the waterbase clear coat straight onto the lure once the lure has the stamped foil on it. and then paint the lure what ever colour you want it and then recoat it with opoxy..?

@@lureblanks οh,ok then,it should be for metal then,i ll give it a try.Any idea how to check the temp of the iron or i just assume when it is hot enough,it is ok?
@@Panoslrf you will have to experiment a little with that because it depends on the model and brand of the iron, some go hytter then other in different settings 👌😊
Quickly Googled it for you and maybe you got a bad brand or weak iron, max temperature for a clothing iron in the US is 500 Fahrenheit and that is plenty of heat 👍 maybe you can buy a different one second hand somewhere 😉
Im not that heavy 😅 I pressed with all my might and weight 😉 but every lure I hot stamped came out great without any problems so I don't see why I should apply more pressure if it already works with amount of pressure I am using. And those lures i made are still holding their foil on this day 😊 even after many teeth from pike 👌
It might be difficult to warm up the mat evenly and not too hard, But you could try it, I would although recommend buying an used clothing iron somewere, that is going to make this process a lot easier 😉

Above the paint for now i'm using automotive 2k clear. I'm getting very diferent results depending I guess the humidity %. Not giving up!! :) Keep up excelent videos. Cheers from Portugal
@@SandEskilo Going strong! 👊 that is the only way to succes, by trying, learning from your mistakes and doing better 👌 awesome man! 👊
@@lureblanks what epoxy brand do you recomend? You use it for pike lures cause its harder right?
@@SandEskilo That is correct, I use VHC pike edition 👌
Amigo buenos días , podrías i firmarme dónde comprar las gomas para pegar el foil . Agradezco la información.
Hi! No problem 😊 lureblanks.eu/parts-and-tools/foils/hot-stamping-foil/hot-stamping-mat.html
Do you ship to America?
Yes Absolutely! Shipping costs will be calculated automatically in the check out and are based on the weigth of the order
Will this work for metal blades?
As long as you will use a good primer paint that sticks on to metal then the same technique will work for both metal and lead as well 👌😉
That foil paper normaly available in any stationary book shop please advise can it be used?
I think you have to glue that on and that it can not be heat transfered ;) You can try glueing it onto a lure though 👌
@@jasonpakes That is correct!
Does this work with lead spoons?
Jep it does, but same rules apply for lead. You need a primer because the foil will not stick to lead. The primer will act as an adhesive 👍
This mathod is good For any foil ?
It's important to use quality hot stamping foil otherwise the foil will not give a smooth effect, come off your lure easily, and loses shine.
Could you use a heat gun (looks like a hair dryer and blows very hot hair)?
I did some tests with a heat gun but it is hard to keep a consistent temperature and easy to overheat a lure , it's possible but not easy at all 😊
Hey pal,how you doin? The primer you spray the lure with,is it primer for metal or wood?I tried to find primer for wood but couldn t find in spray form
Hi! All good here 😊 the primer is for cars, usually car primers work well for hot stamping because they are not waterbased👌
I take it your wife doesn't watch your videos 😂
Hahahah 😁 sshhh 🤫 she still did not after the iron yet 😉😉
Probably single now 😂
Where do you buy your foil?
The foil is available on my webshop: lureblanks.eu/parts-and-tools/foils/hot-stamping-foil/
klo cat botol.botol sperti di belakang itu merek apa ya...
It is an "no brand" hobby paint from a swedish store that is only found in Sweden 😊

American irons don't get hot enough
Quickly Googled it for you and maybe you got a bad brand or weak iron, max temperature for a clothing iron in the US is 500 Fahrenheit and that is plenty of heat 👍 maybe you can buy a different one second hand somewhere 😉
You need to press harder , 2 times harder
Im not that heavy 😅 I pressed with all my might and weight 😉 but every lure I hot stamped came out great without any problems so I don't see why I should apply more pressure if it already works with amount of pressure I am using. And those lures i made are still holding their foil on this day 😊 even after many teeth from pike 👌
Thanks i watch again , good video, ok no watter based
Would a heat gun work?
It might be difficult to warm up the mat evenly and not too hard, But you could try it, I would although recommend buying an used clothing iron somewere, that is going to make this process a lot easier 😉
@@lureblanks fair enough. Thanks for the reply. Very new to this, trying to learn as much as possible before the deep dive into it.
@@stevenonthewater6070 And that is very wise in my opinion, one step at the time and making progress at your own pase and terms ;) I am sure you are a fast learner!

Just bought my first holographic heat transfer foil think it is a vinyl says it's pu for clothes as I couldnt find any other type, I've tryed nail foils and find them difficult also tryed clear holographic adhesive vinyl, wasn't happy with the end result of either, I have a iron also a small craft heat gun just need to get some iron pads, I'm going to be covering some needle jigs no more than 16 cm long and 1 cm wide so not alot to cover, I am very greatful for your video and hope to repeat the process of what you have done, I have an airbrush artist in the family so I be asking him to do some painting once foils are covered thankyou again for your video it's cost me a few pounds and a few jigs to learn the correct way and materials to foil them. I'm not applying direct to metal, just over the topcoat and previous foil and paint... Will let you know how I get on
