Oh solid, yes of course this is simply just another option. Probably why I love this hobby: ask 10 luremaker/painters how to do something, get 10 really great options! Thanks buddy, take care
The name is pronounced des-PAY. I have some and applied over a smooth gloss black base it gives a mirror chrome finish which is what I wanted. Problem is when I add a two part epoxy finish it dulls down to a brushed aluminum finish. Do you know of a top coat that will retain the mirror finish? Great looking baits. Thx
@@havenlures I think their chrome with varnish is pretty good. I only suggested it, cause it's made for airbrushes, easy to clean, no thinner needed, can be sprayed with 0.3mm nozzle. There is a video on youtube with some guy testing all their metallic paints.
I get good enough results from foil, or even Pearl Silver over Black. Can't really justify the cost difference of that marker refill for my use. But it does look nice.
Yeah fair enough, foil definitely still has its place. And until I can find a shiny gold spray I’ll still dabble with foil. Thanks for watching though!
Where did you buy your chrome refill from? How was the cleaning process? Anything special needed to clean the chrome from the airbrush? The world wants to know. LOL I'm just getting into painting lures and like the idea of spraying chrome vs foiling.
Fantastic to hear you’re getting into painting lures, and thanks for watching this video. Cleaning was okay, not as easy as with paint but a little scrub with a qtip and windex got it done. Which gets me thinking. If you’re just starting out and searching around, you’re going to hear lots of opinions on how to clean a brush. I use water mostly in between colours and windex at the end or if there’s too much build up. I got it from; www.mapleairbrushsupplies.com/ Enjoy!!
Thanks 🙏 so much, excellent work, really useful!! What about the stencil that you use at minute 10 on the 2nd lure, where did you get it from? Thanks 🙏
Great question! If I checked the lure prior to painting I could’ve used 2 part epoxy to secure it. I personally wouldn’t use super glue because I don’t feel it’s strong enough, and I’d feel bad if I caught a fish on that hook and it broke off in the fish’s mouth. Once it’s painted there’s not much point to any adhesive as the adhesive is only sticking to the paint.
So the stencils used were: Artool Texture FX2 www.mapleairbrushsupplies.com/products/texture-fx2 Hand cut gill plate Hand cut bar Wire ribbon (online somewhere, can’t recall, it’s quite old)
They’re a great blank. Solid wobble with a steady retrieve but does a great slashing motion also. I got these from AliExpress. A little foreshadowing for you, I’ll have them available on a future website as well, so stay tuned
Sorry man, I’m not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if this stays shiny after topcoat? If so, yes. I used KBS Diamond clear and didn’t notice any dullness afterwards. What chrome sprays are you using that go dull?? Let me know if this answers your question or if I’m way out in left field on this one
And I thought Createx was expensive at $8 for 2 ounces of paint. That would be close to $50 for the same amount. Almost 7 times as expensive as a good acrylic paint. It does look nice, but is out of my hobby budget.
Fair enough, although I would consider shopping around if it interests you. It’s a pricey hobby to have stuff shipped to my area for some reason, it might be cheaper where you are
There are several other "chrome" style paints that should work about as well , but cheaper. There are some really interesting paints used for automotive uses that should work for this as well. But there's a reason these pigments are more expensive. To get the desired effect you have to use pricey pigments. Good pigments are expensive unfortunately. But ! If you are to use this as a main base coat like some here. There's a chrome rattle can paint that will also work pretty well. But! Prepping the bait properly first is important with these type of "foil"-esq paints. There's is a lot of crazy inks, paints and pigments out there
How Good! Thanks for sharing mate, will definitely be grabbing some
Glad I can help brother! Thanks for watching
Very cool and interesting idea!! Thanks for sharing this video!
My pleasure, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment!!! Means a lot
awesome! you're seriously making me consider learning to airbrush paint!
Get into it! I’ll help you along the way
I get about the same look with Spaz Sticks Chrome!
I’m going to try it!
I foil mine but I also hand lay the scales too. If you just need flash there’s other ways to achieve it as you’ve posted here. Nice work dude!

Awesome video. Can you supply a link to the stencils you used?

Interesting, might have to add this to the stock pile lol. Cheers
Man how true is that statement lol
Have you tried silver or chrome from vallejo? They also have some metallic varnish making the metallic paints even more shiny.
Oooo I’ll have to try these! Any specific recommendations?

I bought it and tested against Molokov. This is noticeable more chrome than molokov
Thanks for the update! Did you spray both on a black base? I appreciate the research

Always black base for metallics.
I haven't tried foiling yet but that looks great! I'm also interested in the stencils you use. Do you have a link for them?
Absolutely I do!

The other stencils are hand cut from Mylar and poster board
@@havenlures thanks, much appreciated!

That would be the Artool Texture FX stencil. Comes as a 3 pack, great stuff

Blanks with faulty eyelets make great key chains.
Brilliant! @grassdragger9677 is making lemonade!
Can you just add some ca glue to the eyelet? Or it that not strong enough?

I think that was from Maple airbrush supplies. Artool Texture FX
@@havenluresI have them as well but not that one. It looked like it was plastic instead of heavy paper.
@coachalter are you referring to the bar stencil, if so, I cut that out of a piece of mylar
@@havenluresNo, the FX stencil
So the stencils used were:

I use various chrome sprays but ive yet to find one that can take a top coat ,,they all just go a dull silver,,what does this do?

What color was the purple hue you used behind the gill plate?
I believe that was transparent purple from Golden

Where did you find your DSPIAE Chrome? I can't find it here.
This is where I bought it from. They’re currently sold out:

What pressure are you running?
Good question, I typically run between 10-15 psi for most paints. Thicker stuff 20-25 sometimes
good job
Much appreciated! Thanks!
What clear coat use?
I typically use KBS Diamond clear. It’s durable and easy to use
Hi what is the chrome called cheers
