It's easy as, even making your own blanks is simple, takes me an hour per lure and I suck at it.. Painting blanks is easy as compared to anything, if you can push the button on the airbrush and aim then you can paint, and you do not need an expensive airbrush, I use a $20 airbrush and they work fine, but iwata makes some beautiful airbrush's but always use gravity feed as suction airbrush's suck Haha.
Awesome video! I’ve had an air brush kit for about a year now and have tried it a few times on a couple of baits. Loved doing it but never really stuck with it. Glad you’re doing a series on it, so I can learn a thing or two and get back into it.
Can you do the video where you compare a real cheap one to that? All money I use is mine and I’m tight on it right now. I would like to see how a cheap one works
lol...When you were giving us suggestions to ask for, i think i was the only one who asked for this after reading the comments on that video. Now, look at all the comments saying how cool and sweet the lure looks, and wanting more info on it. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Just watched the video, awesome job. It got me started painting. One problem though, the envirotex is giving me a gummy, tacky finish. Do you know how to fix that?
Just wanted to start by saying you are F@&$ing awesome!! The knowledge you have is incredible!! I’ve watched all of your videos and used the tips and tricks you’ve so generously shared with all your MFing fans!! I’m catching more and more fish each time out one the water thanks to you. Thanks bro.. If your ever in or around Austin TX I’d be honored to show you some of my best spots... Can’t wait for the next video!!
Do giveaways for stuff that u made Edit Do some Jerkbaits one of my favorite lures one company makes a clear bait with no paint at all I thinks it’s strike king maybe find it on tackles whare house
Ever since I started watching your vids you easily became on of my favorites but this one just put you over the top. Take notes kids, this is how you do it. You’re like every UA-cam fisherman wrapped up in one. Love it!!!! Sky is the limit. Wish nothing but great things for you!
Sure wish I would have watched this before I started. Excellent job explaining from A to Z. Newbies will appreciate this a lot especially if they watch this first before investing.
A good spot to find equipment to repurpose for lure making is thrift stores and yard sales. I made my lure turner from a catering rotisserie , my jig heating over for power coating is a simple toaster over with adjustable temperature settings ( has to go to at least 350 degrees) and got a microwave for heating plastisol all for about $20. Then a week or so later got a presto pot for $5 at a yard sale to keep the plastisol at temp for dipping softbaits in clear plastisol after painting. Great hobby and Ben really covered the painting well. Nice job! Love the channel!
please do more of these videos! I saw the title and it automatically made me want too start painting baits! I already make soft plastic baits, but the hard bait painting seems way more cool!
my son wants too make crankbaits then have a fish off and see who's bait works the best. great video. watched this channel come along way over the last 2 years! thanks for another great vid!
Great video for someone like me who is gathering info on starting the lure painting hobby. Info was quick but very detailed. I'll be watching more from you brother. Appreciate it .
Winter sucks, can wait to use the very informative video to customize some baits to catch some ditch donkeys this spring. Keep up the great videos! Peace out!!!!👍
I just started making my own crankbaits, swimbaits and jerkbaits. I've been making them out of wood. I use pine a lot for my wood its cheap and easy to cut and carve. I've practicing painting on paper and cardboard so that really helps. Thanks for the video!
Have never airbrushed and very interested in creating blades colors for my salmon/steelhead spinner fishing. But I had to watch just because I notice the Husker background. I am an old Husker myself in ‘94-96. Great info and a lot to comprehend. Tight lines!!
I bought a airbrush at Christmas and started painting lures right away. You gave good advice at the end. Anyways I’m on the right track and learned a bunch on my own and a few new things from you. Thanks
Excellent video. Very informative. A straightforward way to show what you need to start out painting hard lures. Nice job on that crankbait by the way. Man, you are not kidding about taking the time to learn how to use your airbrush and how to properly clean it.
I love the Video! New to Airbrushing Crankbaits. All of your information is so helpful! I love to Bass Fish, and getting ready for my 2nd tournament in March. This is a GREAT hobby to do when it's to cold out to go fishing! TY
Absolutely loved this video. I was a fan of your channel before, this takes you to the next level in my eyes. I've been making and painting lures for about 4 years now. I'm so stoked to see another utuber doing baits. Keep up the good work. Now you just have to try building one of your own lures.
That was amazing. I love watching stuff to do with painting. I like painting my vehicles an I been looking for a good airbrush instructional video. This helps a lot. Can’t wait for it to warm up here in tx so I can paint my truck. But yeah I definitely want to see more of these type videos
Man, nice job! You just became my favorite UA-cam channel! Loved the great advice at the end, about not being an expert right off, that is so true. I've learned the hard way. But it's a really fun hobby! And a tremendous feeling of satisfaction when you catch a bass with a lure you made or painted.
Hey brother. I'm a taxidermist from Alabama. I was very impressed with your video. Thanks for the information and opportunity to your experience and knowledge.
No matter what video i click on by you im always lefted suprised and glad i found you. Watching you over the past couple months made me fall in love with fishing all over again. I quit for 10 years.. Dont even know how bad i want to tell my boss to f off and live the dream your living man.
Great videos keep up the good work one of the only channels that I still look forward to videos knowing it's good content not just some random non fishing nonsense like so many have turned into
I would never have the time nor do I have the skills to do this, but kudos man! That is sick AF! And you great at it , I enjoyed every second of this video. Looking forward to future paintings.
Awesome video. Keep it up for sure. Airbrushing baits is something that I have wanted to get into for the past 6 or so years. Now that I have a baby due next week and will have a lot of downtime from the water I may just have to pick up an airbrush to fart around with when time permits. Keep up the good work Ben, cheers from Ontario, Canada
Thanks for sharing this. You do almost exactly the same techniques and equipment that I starting using 4 years ago. Iwata Neo, the HF compressor, even the tool you used to make the sexy shad line and red gill plate near the end to the bbq motor. I use the craft paint at Walmart and thin it with windex or sometimes future floor polish ( that requires cleaning a lot as its a wax and will clog the gun), to consistency of milk. Works great and cheaper, pearl white airbrush paint is awesome misted over a paint job too, little is more!!! I use a hole punch on folded over painters tape for my kill dot so it's even for both sides of the lure. Clear coat i use is duplicolor auto clear from autozone..I spray my bait with 2 coats of krylon crystal clear, heat set, then do a fast dip in the can of clear coat, let it dry, then dip again and hang, give it a try just dip fast or sometimes it can wrinkle the paint if not krylon clear sprayed 1st to help protect it, I also use 2ton 30 min epoxy. Keep up the good work!!
Great vidio! Just got my airbrush yesterday. I've been bass fishing for a few years now, and I know what works. Thanks again for the vidio, it will help me out alot.
Love the vids man, watching all the way from Puerto Rico and thanks to your vids I’m getting my first fishing rod. Keep doing what you doo and I wish you the best.
What a great video. My birthday is coming up on the 20th of January and I am definitely going to ask for this stuff to get started. Keep up the great videos!!
was watching a boat review and this video came up on the selection of next up window ... since I watch alot of your more recent stuff and since I've bought some custom painted jerk & cranks from a local Fresno Ca guy who does lives paints on FB sells / giveways ( Sanger Custom ) this video caught my atten nice breakdown of what it takes to get started ... pretty kewl what you can do with a couple simple colors ... I got into buying pre-made unpainted Football jigs.. powder painting and hand tying the skirts on an adding weed guards bout 8 months ago... ( personal use for now, but have given some away to a local guide i went out with & a few friends to get their opinions ) they catch fish !!! and are impressed with the color pattern and quality....... recently been thinking about the Air Brush'n thingy this video is make'n me lean towards taking the plunge ....also like the part YOU WILL SUCK AT FIRST .and to practice a lot first before jack'n up lures ....

I'm saving money to get into lure making and painting.
Do it lojo
It's easy as, even making your own blanks is simple, takes me an hour per lure and I suck at it..

Thanks for taking the time to make this for us
Awesome video! I’ve had an air brush kit for about a year now and have tried it a few times on a couple of baits. Loved doing it but never really stuck with it. Glad you’re doing a series on it, so I can learn a thing or two and get back into it.
I would usually just skip ahead to 16:50, but I'm glad I watched the whole thing. I learned a lot.
For the kill spot you should dip a q-tip and dip it in the paint it works
Best lure customer I've ever seen that makes lures with that much detail
I’m just now getting in two painting fishing lures I’m 13 and just got an airbrush kit for Christmas
MasterMind Nice! Post some vids of your work.
I’ll try soon thanks👍
Stick with it!
That’s a sick bait. Really wanna try painting my own baits now
Can you do the video where you compare a real cheap one to that? All money I use is mine and I’m tight on it right now. I would like to see how a cheap one works
Already ordered one 👍🏻

Is this gonna be your new company?
I started making wood lures a few months ago. This is by far one of the best airbrushing tutorials I've seen
Also, thanks for the thing at the end.. I would have bought a whole bunch of crankbaits then painted them at the start.
Just watched the video, awesome job. It got me started painting. One problem though, the envirotex is giving me a gummy, tacky finish. Do you know how to fix that?
