I'm certeanly no fan of the U.S. but country music is just one their biggest contribution to humanity. So much so, that every time I ask myself "WTF are they doing in middle east?" I rememer country music and am able to keep going without having an aneurism.
Wow. Dolly is and has always been amazing. The reason I enjoy country music so much is because it tells a story graphically, gets the feelings behind it across so clearly yet so simply. It’s like she’s having a conversation. Wow.
I wasn't a big country listener (I'm not even American lol) but the first time ever I heard this song played, I was just suddenly and magically transfixed. The lyrics! I couldn't stop listening to it! Without asking its listeners before hand it just started telling this dark and rather devastating story, with sharp choices of words that immediately painted a vivid imagery in my mind of Jolene, of Dolly, of her sleeping husband calling out Jolene, and of the sharp feeling in Dolly's gut right after. I fell in love with it. It's poetry.
God I was only 2 years young, remember hearing Dolly from my man playing her records growing up, my mam actually looked very much like Dolly too, brings back memories…love ya mam god rest your soul. 🙏
Nashville is such an amazing place. I’m not even a huge country music fan. But I went there with a girlfriend a while back, she wasn’t huge into country music either, we both appreciate, but not totally our style. We had so much fun. On the main strip, clubs all over, nice restaurants too for the most part. And the music. All clubs had amazing music. And every other place was a bar with live music, it was amazing. One night I swear the guitarist was almost as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan Tennessee is a beautiful state too, I’d love to live there. But I’m a Jersey boy, I’d miss the shore.
Good thing he cheated on her, or we wouldn’t have this song. Screw her feelings all I care is that I can listen to this song. Pls don’t hurt me it’s a joke.
Her lyrics are always genius -- not just in this song, but everything from "Smoky Mountain Memories" to "9 to 5" and so many more. She is a superbly talented songwriter -- among her many, many other gifts. Just a national treasure, as everyone else seems to say! Can't disagree.

@@Me-mb1ex 😂😂 and that pot of gold
Dirt poor and gorgeous as all get out
drunk and missing teeth
She's a national treasure.
I'm a 90s RnB kinda gal but there's no denying Ms. Parton's talent and ability to transcend music genres.
Never be another Dolly Parton: gorgeous & talents
She was an absolute knock out! Amazing personality and talent. She’s unbeatable
No matter how many covers, the original here is the best version!
Miley Cyrus backyard session version
Beyoncés version sucked booty cheeks

I’m just happy the song is living on, new life being breathed into it with each cover.
I so remember the first time I heard this song in 1974. Gobsmacked and just haunting- then and now.
Hello.. hope you are fine and staying safe over there?
She's an amazing person. The world is a better place with her in it.
I couldn't care less about country music, but this woman is just pure talent and cincerity, I love her as a person
I'm certeanly no fan of the U.S. but country music is just one their biggest contribution to humanity. So much so, that every time I ask myself "WTF are they doing in middle east?" I rememer country music and am able to keep going without having an aneurism.
absolutely amazing song and voice! Dolly looks so cute and pretty here!
One of my favorite songs of all time…hits n hurts every time …
You can tell in her eyes that she’s nervous but she’s so good!!!
They may have given her a few shots of whiskey to calm her down as well. She looks like she might be enjoying a alcohol buzz?
shes so gorgeous effortlessly sung that song
@@davidoverstreet2875 doubt that anyone would be able to give such a stellar vocal performance while under the influence.
@@MisFellatio you underestimate the power of alcohol
@@haxxah I think you underestimate the power of alcohol. You can't use Your vocal chords normally when youre on alcohol
What a dynamic song!!! The mere fact “Jolene” and “I will always love you” we’re both written in the same day?! Insane!!
she looks so unphased to be singing one of the most iconic songs ever lol
She wrote it! Lol
@@mauriceevans6546 i know 😌 on the same day she wrote i will always love you!
This was only the year after she wrote it: I'm sure acknowledged as a great song already, but perhaps hadn't been realised as iconic yet.
Wow. Dolly is and has always been amazing. The reason I enjoy country music so much is because it tells a story graphically, gets the feelings behind it across so clearly yet so simply. It’s like she’s having a conversation. Wow.
Hello 👋 how are you doing?😊
@@drakehonest2 honestly? I’m having a tough time , but I’m strong . Thanks for asking . You?
@@lindseyowen5968 It’s my pressure meeting you here where are you from and where do you live?
"Your beauty is beyond compare," she sings as she stands there looking like a musical goddess.
No auto tune in those days. She’s legend.
LOVE this original footage. The fashion and glamour of this era will never be matched -though many will try. Miss Dolly is a timeless class act. :)
Hello.. hope you are fine and staying safe over there??
Nov-23. She is rocking this, then & now. Legends stay bright & all others fade. I can't believe she rocked the halftime show at 77 years old.
Hello Lynn
How are you doing today?
Dolly is definitely an angel from heaven, her beauty, her incomparable voice, her stamina.. I hope she is happy . 💓❣️
she looks amazing 😻
I wasn't a big country listener (I'm not even American lol) but the first time ever I heard this song played, I was just suddenly and magically transfixed. The lyrics! I couldn't stop listening to it! Without asking its listeners before hand it just started telling this dark and rather devastating story, with sharp choices of words that immediately painted a vivid imagery in my mind of Jolene, of Dolly, of her sleeping husband calling out Jolene, and of the sharp feeling in Dolly's gut right after. I fell in love with it. It's poetry.
Her raw vocals are incredible what an icon 🤭💗💗
She's amazing, a national treasure!
Hello Susan
How are you doing today?
If only I could find a woman with that kind of love in her heart…
Still in love with young dolly like I was as a kid. She was my first love ❤😂
Completely timeless. I remember watching her on the Porter Wagner show as a child. I loved her then, love her now. She is timeless. 💜💜💜
All I can say is timeless. There isn’t a lot that has a heartbeat like this song . And other Dolly songs. Thank U.
Wow. This song never ceases to raise goosebumps. The medieval version by Hildegard von Blingin is also a beautiful tribute. Hope Dolly's heard it.
Hello Stephanie, how are you doing?
I said what? Then realized you had written Blingin not Bingen.
It's not just the voice it's the delivery. Incredible performer, one of the very best.
God I was only 2 years young, remember hearing Dolly from my man playing her records growing up, my mam actually looked very much like Dolly too, brings back memories…love ya mam god rest your soul. 🙏
My first real memory of knowing who Dolly Parton was from the movie 9 to 5, and then Steel Magnolias. She’s an amazing actress and singer! Beautiful.
One night I swear the guitarist was almost as good as Stevie Ray Vaughan
Tennessee is a beautiful state too, I’d love to live there. But I’m a Jersey boy, I’d miss the shore.
Why not ? I love country music. It's the only real music.
If I was Dolly's husband back then, this song would've never been written. How could a guy cheat on Dolly. She's perfect!!
Because that’s just how it is most men cheat on beautiful women for something so insignificant
I'm sure he was intimidated by her success. finding another regular woman normalizes a relationship with a woman.
EVEN 70s Country was the best ,,
@@Lilibear-1 not true but ok
Good thing he cheated on her, or we wouldn’t have this song. Screw her feelings all I care is that I can listen to this song.
Pls don’t hurt me it’s a joke.
She is breathtaking and such a nice person.
Her lyrics are always genius -- not just in this song, but everything from "Smoky Mountain Memories" to "9 to 5" and so many more. She is a superbly talented songwriter -- among her many, many other gifts. Just a national treasure, as everyone else seems to say! Can't disagree.
Thanks so much for your pleasant remarks i appreciate and I went to say a big thank you for your love and support as my fan and which of my songs is your best ?
Absolutely loved the Porter Wagoner show back in the day! Loved the sparkly outfits!
Country music never fades away no matter how old it is,I'm still playing her songs even in 2022 she's amazing ❤️
How are you doing today lisa?
I'n in love with her makeup😍 And the color of her outfit and how it fits her SO perfectly. This is Dolly Parton. Perfection💗
Dolly Parton is really underrated as a vocalist and a songwriter I love her sm she’s so underrated!
A picture of absolute beauty here!
I'm so glad I was in my prime when she was. Great time for music. Fabulous artist, Fabulous song.
I used to watch this video everyday with my grandma while sitting on her lap when I was 5. I miss you gramma!
It seemed so easy for her to sing, what a voice
Just watched the PBS episode 7 of the documentary "Country Music" play this classic over the closing credits. The one of a kind singer-songwriter-musician that the world knows by her first name is just the best. Thank you for all this great music.
I did not remember this but Dolly is such a pathfinder. Sure I’m not a fan of every direction it has taken but this woman is an ICON! She is amazing!
O sabor da musica original é sempre o mais gostoso ❤
I come back to this for so many reasons, but damn... that guitar player... hot dang
"... and I cannot compete with you, Jolene."
Those words are like a dagger to the heart. 💔
The retro audio is magical 😌
Retro maybe ,but more advanced quality sound.Tjen again you don't need quality sound with the award music of today.
The background set gives me a nostalgia. It is like taking me back at somewhere I've never been but which feels like a home at the same time. I atleast want to take a walk inside that beautiful house on stage. It better be a real home. Man. 😄
i feel the exact same way. Weird feeling that I can't explain
@@marnie.tsunami yeah. I want to have a really country style home now 😂
I remember the first time I saw her on The Porter Wagoner show. I was just a kid and just fascinated by her voice and looks. Still am today. What an American original!
Hello 👋 how are you doing?😊
Saturday afternoons growing up in Memphis were a total tv washout for me - one country music show after another, all afternoon. Never thought there would be a day when I would click on those same artists intentionally because I love their work so much. Lol.
One of the best women to ever live. She’s awesome on stage and off!! So glad she’s still with us 💜
Just raw talent.. front the guitar to Dolly... simply... excellent.. talent. No re-finishing.
One of the most recognizable Stars ⭐️ in the whole 🌎 world. Came from a little log 🪵 cabin on pigeon river. 1 of 12 kids. Amazing woman right here. Such a talent.
I didn't know any of that!! 12 kids?? I need to watch a documentary! Thanks!
Now this is the Country Music I grew up on, back in the 1970's!
Dolly, Porter, Conway, Johnny, June,
Glen, Kenny, Merle, and all the rest, along with weekly family viewing of the "Hee Haw Show", featuring Roy, Buck, Junior Samples and Miss Minnie Pearl! 🤣😍
Back when Country was Country, and singers could sing, play instruments and connect to their loyal audience.
I miss those days of listening to County songs on tv, and in the car on long Sunday drives with my family. 🤗
Today's Country sucks... 😝
the most beautiful, most talented and most Real celebrity\singer there ever was and i hope she lives forever because she is a national treasure and the world will surely be 'less than' if she ever dies. i love you Dolly....... your music touched the life of my mother when she was young and thankfully as i grew up you were not only still performing but you were and are just as relevant then and now as you were in my moms youth and my ears were blessed with your music. the only disappointment i ever had with your music is that you never cut a full version of the first song you performed in the smoky mountain Christmas movie, the one were you were surrounded by all the dancers doing the music video...... that song was pure GOLD! and i wish you had done that one as an actual track.
this is about life story my grandpa's first wife . He was completly stolen from her by my grandma - "Jolana". It was happen almost 60 years ago /circa 1967-1968/ in Czechoslovakia. I had goosebumps, when i heard this song for first time
One of THE most iconic songs in country music history and always will be. Dolly is a "home girl" like Loretta Lynn in Tennessee. She is not only the pride or our state but a national one as well. Dolly will always be in our hearts. We will never forget her no matter what!
Wigs have improved since Dolly sang in this one! She looks beautiful and what a pretty outfit.....her one liners are so funny.
Everything so colorful, beautiful, and this talent...
My dad who passed away 20 yrs. ago loved Dolly, his favorite song was mule skinner. He mostly listened to jazz, but he loved everything Dolly ever did, I got my love of her from him, when I really miss him I listen to mule skinner and think back to my childhood.
