When Dolly sings with another singer she always does the 2nd voice cause she knows that everybody else is gonna sing the normal pitch...shows how talented she is
She is talented, but she is even more skilled.

Then you should watch the recently released video of Dolly and Olivia Newton John singing Jolene. It really is Brilliant . It was recorded, before Olivia died . It really is the best ever .

Unless you witnessed it personally, (I am 45 now) you have no idea the impact Dolly Parton has had on this world. In all Genres of music. In all backgrounds, all faiths, all peoples. She represents the best of the best of us. She is in American Art Form all her own. A true legend anyone can look to for inspiration in their own lives.

Such a wonderful mix of music and personalities. The contrast was stunning and representative of what tolerance and love can do.
I remember seeing Dolly with my parents when I was a little girl in the 70s. This was my favorite song. As she took the stage and started singing a streaker ran to the stage and flashed her. She was laughing so hard she had to leave the stage. Every time she tried to sing the song she'd crack up. I don't know if they ever caught the guy but poor Dolly was never able to finish the song that night. I was so disappointed because this was my favorite Dolly song and I was too young to understand what was going on.

I have seen Judas Priest more times than I can even remember, and if you had told me that some day, Halford would be on stage with Dolly singing Jolene, I would have told you you were out of your mind!
Hehehe! - same. And I suspect Metal God Rob was utterly stoked to be there.
However, you could easily see he was barely singing. He needed to fit his voice to the requirements. Same with Pink.
Not discounting any of the other great singers on stage, between Rob’s super diaphragm powered 4 octaves and Pink’s 3 octave stomper, they could punch mega volume and range. It would be awesome to seem.

My daddy was a good ole country boy and even though I rebelled against his music and became more of a rock and roll girl (even married a rock drummer), I will never forget that my dad first played Hank Williams Cheatin' Heart on his old guitar and took me to Missouri State Fair to see Porter Wagner, Jimmy Dean (BEFORE he was the sausage guy), Roy Clarke and the lovely Dolly Parton (as she told of "beautiful boxes of breeze" detergent!") and my dad also introduced me to Johnny Cash, as well as Jimi Hendrix, and he loved all kinds of music. Good music is good music, he'd always say. My dad loved music and he taught me to love music, too. Dolly's talent is not just for singing, but for so many other things, her storytelling, just like Pink said is what really sets her apart as an icon!

I think the true mark of a legend is doing something like this...and taking a back seat. Dolly played harmony to everyone in this, and I think for MOST performers that would be so hard to do.
