Well, this piece of music from your grandfather was "plenty" good. Even today, it still sounds very nice and entetaining with people who like, and appreciate music like this from 1929.
Words by Ray Gilbert, music by Lew Pollack. Perfessor Bill writes that the tune was originally an instrumental, and definitely a one-step. When lyrics were added, the tune became hotter and more jazzy. Perfessor Bill is an extremely valuable site for American popular song.
Thank you .. For some reason it was VERY pleasant three and a half minutes. I just subscribed for all your videos. I see lot's of knowlidge and imagination. looking forward for more..
+David Southern Are you serious please tell me your joking David Southern because no modern group could even come close to the greatness of the performers from that era not in a million years. Your only redemption is you didn't try to compare them to the Cherry Poppin Daddies....
Y'all who like this number might also like a version done in 1943 by an Eddie Condon ensemble with Wild Bill Davison (cornet) and George Brunis (trombone). Outstanding solos by all hands, done more in a hot Chicago style.
verse four: Once you start you're gonna stay on it, Ev'ry night you're out cafein' it, Swing your queen, what I mean, Brother, you're as gone as any human can be, And when you're in the mood there ain't no stoppin' it, Live it, breath it, blow your top in it, That is jazz, what it has, That's-A-Plenty for me.
Yes. This is the only hot Jass accordion performance have heard. Clifton Chenier out of New Orleans Zydeco comes close on some of his Blues tracks but he just did not live long enough!! Play the hot Jass of New Orleans and Chicago on my Roland V-Accordion but am just an olde clown who loves this music going back to high school!! To me this music always trumped Rock and Roll!!
@189beacon I think you are right. Go to a video with this name Opening - The Jackie Gleason Show and at about the 5:20 mark he asks Sammy Spear for a little traveling music, much as he did a few years earlier when he made a similar request to his original orchestra leader Ray Bloch.
I remember the evening on the show when they went into his travellin' music at the end of the show and he slipped on the stage and broke his leg. Art Carney rushed out saying good night. It wasn't to the next day we found out what happened.
@EDDIEinWAR This 1920's music is very nice and it's from the time my grandmother was a little girl-but I don't know if it beats Lady Gaga since I like her music and LGaga is 1 of the biggest pop music stars 2day.
Wonder why he'd "hide"...had he gotten crosswise with someone in the business? Kind of unusual that he would start in Chicago, break big in NYC early in the 20s, then return to Chicago. The way of things then was that you went to NYC and if you had to come back, you were a flop. "Plenty" features one legendary jazzman, Muggsy Spanier on cornet, and one not-quite legend, Voltaire DeFaut on clarinet.
Lady Gaga has proved that she can actually sing by recording a track with Tony Bennett. No more need for her to purvey the pop trash other than to make loadsamoney but I shall not be buying any of it.
My kind of music.Encore Maestro !
I would simply love to wake up to this music !
This is fun to play.
Great song, a fun and catchy beat!
Thanks again for this treat.
Happy people that could listening to those wonderful orchestras personally, and now, thanks to the technology we can enjoy too. Thanks for posting
A superb tune, absolutely powerful.
Thanks for this lively capricious antidote to all the world's troubles! Great images, too.
Like Rich Conaty used to say, "Rhythm saved the world."
What a wonderful recording. I absolutely love this piece and this band has done a marvellous job of it
Beautiful music for dancing in this 2024

Hello. This is always a treat.
Thanks for posting.
1:53 an absolutly brilliant solo!
Awesome!
Volly de Faut is a very underrated clarinet player - Morton thought very highly of him by all accounts. Such a shame that he didn't record a lot more
just love this
Oh this is great.

Chris J Marr
The cornet solo is by the great Muggsy Spanier
Love the instrumental version; I used to have the Phil Harris version with lyrics by Phil, but it didn't survive my moves around the country.
cool tempo, really "pops" ...and the musicians are really there in the groove
A little travelling music, Ray!
I love this song and this is my favorite version. I love the Andrews sisters rendition as well....
Tis was a .."a little traveling music" on the Jackie Gleason Show in the 1950's - performed by Ray Bloch.
Great song,I think Jackie Gleason always played it on his variety shows.
Thank you .. For some reason it was VERY pleasant three and a half minutes. I just subscribed for all your videos. I see lot's of knowlidge and imagination. looking forward for more..
. Out of the way... turn it up!!
Some passages really remind of Franz List's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2! =)
I feel with this virus crap. We're in a Roaring 20s part 2.
That late mute solo sounds like Mugsy Spanier!
Bring this Music BACK !!! (-: (-: (-:
Check out the two albums by the Bryan Ferry Orchestra.
+David Southern Are you serious please tell me your joking David Southern because no modern group could even come close to the greatness of the performers from that era not in a million years. Your only redemption is you didn't try to compare them to the Cherry Poppin Daddies....
alex mendham is pretty solid tho
but not anything near the originals
David Southern try the Tuba skinny group , buskers from New Orleans!

Tune!
This reminds me of the first Black Sabbath album.
Yippeee!
This sounds like the song everyone dances to in the Jungle Book :)
verse four:

El autor del tema no fue LEW POLLACK como pone al principio sino que el nombre correcto es BEN POLLACK
Yes, it was.
Wasn't this the song used on the old Jackie Gleason TV show? When Jackie would say, "A little traveling music Sammy - and away we go!"
I wonder if the audio programmers for Ghosts and Goblins got inspiration for the theme song from this?
I can't help but hear the similarity.
2:43 What the? An accordion in jazz music? Who knew?

Laurel and Hardy Played this amazing song in the film Jitterbugs
1943 film. Actually the music was played by real musicians. Laurel & Hardy were silent.
jackie gleason's Travellin' Music............
I remember the evening on the show when they went into his travellin' music at the end of the show and he slipped on the stage and broke his leg. Art Carney rushed out saying good night. It wasn't to the next day we found out what happened.
Andy Sanellaand his orchestra
You can find the complete lyrics on Perfessor Bill's web page.

@78timothy Spanier.
this was playing at a Popeye's :D
