Thank Heaven for Scrappy Lambert in 'Sweepin'... Never made a bad recording. It's fun sometimes to hear him trying to keep a straight face, as in 'Sweetheart, We Need Each Other' (Ben Pollack)
"....how to spot a Spitalny" ?!?! You've got me spittting all over my monitor! But thanks for the very kind words, and I hope to have a few new posts finished by the end of Sept.
The signature orchestrations, rhythms and renditions; plus the boxy, dead studio acoustic . . . you're training me how to spot a Spitalny . . . . but, my, how I (and others) miss your transcriptions.
great snappy version of "tain't no..." love it! "...rainbow" is very nice as well. really moving on " nobody's sweetheart". great set! thanks for all you do...much appreciated here.
@MrXnews, In the Rust books, under Jack Albin, all of the Edisons and Crowns are Albin, and the Harmony Nov5'30 session is Albin. June6'30 is Fred Rich and Aug18'30 is Ford Britten. Everything else is Phil Spitalny. Plus, there are a couple of Spitalny sessions that are missing from this group. Under Clevelanders, all of the Brunswicks are Harry Reser, and the ARC sessions are all Spitalny.
Extraordinary--again! Prozoot you are incredible in your presentations. Any chance you have date for each of these. And in Nobody's Sweeheart, who's the vocalist? Thanks for posting such spectacular songs. Tim in Oakland, CA
There is no way a 91 year old recording could sound like this. This is definitely not a 78 from 1930. It sound's like it was just recorded digitally just yesterday.
No, these are not Columbia 5 minute records. The Columbia 5 minute records have " Longer Playing Record" printed on the label. I doubt if more than 10 of these were ever issued. I have two. The recording quality is fantastic! Columbia also issued - on the Harmony label- "Double Track" records - with two versions of the same song in parallel grooves.
No....for one thing.....knew 2 or 3 people who WERE in Atlantic City when all that was going down....and my Grand Dad make some of the 'Bootleg Gin' that was sold in some of the Gin Mills...so no, the violence was real...but that was as they say in the ''The Godfather'', this is the Life we Chose''...over, the end and out...LoL.
In hot weather, my mother used to sing that first part of "Taint no Sin" and laugh, the only time i have ever heard it before now.
I never cease to be amazed at the treasures of the 1920s-30s that I find here. Absolute top quality.
Brilliant popular songs that were art.
0:00 T'ain't No Sin
2:39 Sweepin' The Clouds Away
5:33 Nobody's Sweetheart

Thanks for sharing.
Thanks again
"T'aint No Sin" is also the title theme of MISS FISHER'S MYSTERIES.
A Prozoot Transcription! ( applause )
As Ethel Merman sang "You're the top!"
Extraordinary--again! Prozoot you are incredible in your presentations. Any chance you have date for each of these. And in Nobody's Sweeheart, who's the vocalist? Thanks for posting such spectacular songs. Tim in Oakland, CA

Does anybody feel that Boardwalk Empire destroyed that wonderful music with violence and killings?
No....for one thing.....knew 2 or 3 people who WERE in Atlantic City when all that was going down....and my Grand Dad make some of the 'Bootleg Gin' that was sold in some of the Gin Mills...so no, the violence was real...but that was as they say in the ''The Godfather'', this is the Life we Chose''...over, the end and out...LoL.
That's because that is what happened in that time period .
1929
