I remember Tony Terran. I used to drive him with me to rehearsals. Great guy. Wonderful musician and supremely cool guy. Dick Nash the same thing. I would almost talk about nothing other than Dick Nash when I was kid. My trombone teacher probably was a little put out, but he asked Dick for an autograph for me, and got it. Dick suggested" "Glad to hear I'm number TWO in your book" (hint, hint was what my mom explained to me). Eventually I got to play with these guys in public - it was like heaven.
Music of the 20's, 30's and 40's. Still the best music around. Too bad that those who can play it are mostly gone forever. But they remain immortal as long as we can watch such great videos.
Unfortunatley Dixie does not always gather as much attention as it deserves. The two playing Trombone and Trumpet are friends of mine, and I've driven Tony (tpt) to rehearsals many times when he was not in right health to drive. I did not know he was such a kicikin' improviser....of course I knew Nash was a great dixie improv guy and also great swing playing! Like having a supercharged Teagarden around. Benny sounds great as does Teddy. I wish I could have been there. Some great stuff
I never knew the name of the song. For those old enough "The Jackie Gleason Show," his variety show from NYC and Miami in the 1960s to 1970 (?) used the basic "That's A Plenty" during a few of "The Great One's" routines. Great version! Feels like you are in New Orleans.
Fantastic, phenomenal, extraordinary Benny Goodman and his Band One masterpiece event...I'm Brazilian, Trumpet player, Bandleader of Dixie Swingers Jazz Band from Lindoia, SP-BR🇧🇷 November 25th,2020 - 17:45 p.m.👍👍👍
Some years ago, in Brisbane, Teddy Wilson was in Australia playing at the local jazz club.I was over the moon!! THE Teddy Wilson of my childhood.music.then adult music..was in Australia, of all places. I sat on the edge of the stage and went to Heaven!
Kinda spoiled it when the bass player got lost on the second strain and it took him a while to find it again. Pretty cool when BG almost stepped on the 'bone solo, but caught it and graciously handled it. Real class!
listening to this on a jazz playlist (thinking to myself, this is some good shit), then I look "Benny Goodman" Of course this is good shit......*facepalm..
Cutest of Benny Goodman seems great gift he was still around and so cute in1980dig his final exhale there goes the last founding fathers o much so he should be included in fathers day by wat of he dam well earned it♥️♥️♥️
'that's a plenty' is a dixieland tune-never heard bg do it b4-teddy swings it!!bg tips his hat to all those great new orleans players who he had to have heard in his early days....
Yeah, that's an issue when you are used to play jazz standards and someone ask you to play a dixieland tune. You remember the chorus so you agree, but when the band starts to play, you realize there are many other damned sections of the song :D

Benny makes everything look easy to play!, swing king!
Goodman STILL at the top of his game here! And so nice to see Dick Nash emerge from the studios to play some REAL jazz!
Unfortunatley Dixie does not always gather as much attention as it deserves.

Benny sounds great as does Teddy. I wish I could have been there. Some great stuff
cos this shit is way harder than Swing
I hope that my parents saw this TV performance when it was first broadcast. It would've made them very happy! 😊❤
Master, King of Swing, Mr. Benny Goodman and his band.

Excellent. Just an amazing video. Thanks for the upload!
It don't get any better than this!
Very nice!

Dick Nash, still alive and kicking in 2023
Dick Nash can't be beat. He's one of the best there ever was.
Playing this as part of my school's marching band Field show.
You can definitely hear where John Williams got his inspiration for Cantina Band from Star Wars!
this is absolutely great. i dont understand why it has so few views :-(
Oh Baby!!! you got it right Benny!
my favorite jazz song!!! :D
It’s one of the best
Impresionante Benny haciendo una especie de Dixieland!!!!
Gotta love that dixieland style man!
Teddy wilson is so amazing and relaxed
His 50 or so years of previous experience performing in the big leagues of music probably helped with that.
Some years ago, in Brisbane, Teddy Wilson was in Australia playing at the local jazz club.I was over the moon!! THE Teddy Wilson of my childhood.music.then adult music..was in Australia, of all places. I sat on the edge of the stage and went to Heaven!
EXCELENTE Benny Goodman como siempre !!!!!!!
Fantastic listening
This is great jazz music! All muscians make this an swinging jazz session!
I am a rocker, but I love this!

Realmente pienso igual. Un abrazo
Made the world a better place.
That's a winner!!
Kinda spoiled it when the bass player got lost on the second strain and it took him a while to find it again. Pretty cool when BG almost stepped on the 'bone solo, but caught it and graciously handled it. Real class!
Gotta love this kind of music!
Great to quickstep to.
listening to this on a jazz playlist (thinking to myself, this is some good shit), then I look "Benny Goodman"
Of course this is good shit......*facepalm..
@hereinweymouth Thank you. I hadn't considered the possibility that the publishers themselves had perpetuated such a mistake.
Cutest of Benny Goodman seems great gift he was still around and so cute in1980dig his final exhale there goes the last founding fathers o much so he should be included in fathers day by wat of he dam well earned it♥️♥️♥️
Thanks: Brain needed this treat.
Murdoch Mysteries' "Toronto's Girl Problems" brought me here! :D
Yes, I had to check, you’re right. But it is NOT Winton Marsalis on trumpet.
oh the Trombone! the Trombone!!! wooooooooh the Trombone!!!!
You aren't related to Tommy Pederson, are you?
and aaaaaWAYYYY we GOOOOO!
Ha! Damned right!
'that's a plenty' is a dixieland tune-never heard bg do it b4-teddy swings it!!bg tips his hat to all those great new orleans players who he had to have heard in his early days....
wonderfoul ,
Cantina Band from Star Wars bring me here
Its clear that even a this late point Benny still practiced.
A minimum of 6 hours a day they say.
This was Jackie Gleason's theme for his Reginad VanGleason III character
Affettuosamente vi invidio.
yeah...dixieland, with a swing
Dixieland was swung. It swung harder than any Goodman record. Just listen to the New Orleans Rhythm Kings play this.
wow those solos! The trombone is smokin hot!
Dunderpatrullen brought me here :D
ikr
Wonder of Benny gave Nash the ray for not starting his chorus on time. Hahaha
But he did start his chorus on time. Fantastic bone player.
looks like he took first solo. i think benny wanted first chorus
Why do so many on UA-cam write "A Plenty", rather than "Aplenty?
The original publication is titled “That’s-A-Plenty”
4:50 to the end is the best part!
@JRussoBuffaloNY Didn't Gene Krupa play with Pollock for a while? I think I remember reading this somewhere.
Yes.
No. Ray Bauduc and Ben Pollack were the drummers.
The bass player gets lost going into the second part.
Yeah, that's an issue when you are used to play jazz standards and someone ask you to play a dixieland tune. You remember the chorus so you agree, but when the band starts to play, you realize there are many other damned sections of the song :D
Awsome, except Guitar and Bass don't get a turn :(
@pianoplayer1224 because its a dixieland song and from the jazz era not to many youths like jazz
@turnitback Because the music is published that way. You can see the cover page on several arrangements at sheetmusicplus. com.
0:00 - 5:53 is the best part
@SANNAFABICH Trombone solo :P
メモ
4:23 ~
I would love to have been able to play with benny, but only if I was excempt from the "ray"...
Tatiana Gutsy used this as FX music when she won the 1992 Olympics.
