I own 5 Gibson's, 2 Les Paul's, 2 SGs and 1 Melody Maker. 6 Epiphones, 5 Les Paul's and 1 Korina Moderne. 4 days ago I traded a Fender Player Series Streat for the PRS SE Standard 24 in vintage cherry. I really love the PRS. It sounds and plays beautifully just as it looks. I've owned 2 other PRS's in the past, a 1996 McCarty and a SE Bernie Marsden. I'll tell you that the SE Standard 24 holds up with any guitar I have ever played.
I was planning to buy a Chapman ML3 Pro Modern this weekend and oh boy. Your video changed my mind. I'm gonna go ahead and get the PRS SE Standard 24 Vintage Cherry instead. Thanks man!
It's fun, well-made and very versatile. Really hope you like it. It's definitely one of my favorites. Awesome to know I have a viewer in Germany. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Just bought a used one for under $500 few days ago. A year old, barely played by previous owner. A bit of a saddle and truss rod adjustment, new strings and it plays and sounds great. Coil tap sounds pretty good in middle position, gives a bit of that Tele twang. Thinking about putting locking tuners on it and that's about it. Great workhorse guitar for intermediate players, for that price you can hardly beat it.
The sounds are very good.. I was always impressed by the quality of those SE's. The neck is really good. It's comfortable for chords and leads and you can easily have access to all the notes and contrarily to the SG, it's well balanced..It won't fall off.. The HB pickups keep their definition and clarity even with gain..The trem system doesn't get the guitar out of tuning at the first dives.. The sustain is good too.. You have to wonder, will it make such an auditable difference if I spend the big bucks on a one body piece made in the USA one? Mind you the placebo effect is strong.. As a guitar player friend told me, a PRS is like a Gibson LP without its shortcomings.. I would add it's like an ergonimical Gibson without its shortcomings. LP The only thing I don't like is the headstock but that's a subjective preference..
@@tonyleeglenn Thanks.. I would add that the typical Gibson 498 Paf sounds great but as you know tends to get muddy or blurry with gain.. One has to crank the treble on the amp to get definition sometimes.. Those on the PRS, even the SE one's sound pretty clear with gain..
Sounds great man I have a Yamaha Pacifica and am looking to get a new guitar do you think this is worth getting? I’m thinking about getting this in translucent blue.
I'm pretty impressed with it. I've played some Pacificas and I know they are fast and smooth players. If you get the SE standard set up right it is a killer player as well, but its definitely a different feel. You should probably go to a GC or other store and give one a try before buying. I'm pretty happy with mine.
Mine stays in tune really well. If you perform several radical dives then sometimes the G string goes a bit flat. Overall a really nice trem - but not as good as on a G&L.
If the Yamaha is $250 less I think it would be a great deal. I wanted to have one with 24 frets and this looked like a great option. That Yamaha looks like a fine instrument.
Further, it is addictive, it's on my mind when not playing it. The setup, quality build, I just sold my Telecaster, my Strat goes next. I wish everyone a PRS guitar. Been playing 57 years, nothing better.
I've been trying to trade the HB Fusion T for one of these used. I really dig this. I have no other guitar Gas really. As I really love my strats. But I offered the HB for the PRS or happily keep the HB as it is a nice guitar that I think will outlast the rest. Strange but I believe that ...the fusion T you saw it!!! Hahaha forgive me my friend. You won't believe I got sick again. Then after 2 or 3 days fever and aches sore throat ...that damned left ear hit infection again. Didn't bust this time so far. Advil helps. Anyway. Just wanted to see how you been. Truly miss your talks. Need to catch up soon. Peace!!! God Bless brother. Love your playing. And I know you have touched my life well. I still use ME80!!!! That thing is getting Your money's worth. Hahaha.
Now this may be controversial, but I have the same guitar as this in blue, and to be honest I much prefer the way my Mitchell guitars play and feel to the PRS. I have 2 Mitchell MD400s an MS400 and an MS450 and I prefer all of them to the PRS. It is not that the PRS is bad, it is just not as easy to play, and doesn't feel any better for the extra money in my opinion. The Mitchell MD400s are sadly no longer available, but the MS400 and MS450s are and are often on sale for around $200.
@@tonyleeglenn now, to be fair, the Mitchells have been known to have issues from the factory or from shipping, with blemishes, or chips etc. I have been really lucky with mine. I originally bought an MD400 and liked it so much I bought another when I saw a used one on sale. I modified the second one to be more like a Tele/Strat hybrid with a single coil in the neck and a split humbucker in the bridge. I put in a Strat wiring harness and have it so it switches: Neck Neck/Front coil of bridge Front coil of bridge Bridge as humbucker Rear coil of bridge. It is a close second favorite after my Ibanez AR420
That's crazy because my 3 guitars are a PRS SE Custom 24, a PRS SE Mira and a Mitchell MS450, specifically because I was looking for a cheaper guitar that felt as close to my PRS guitars that I wouldn't mind something happening to, and I feel the exact opposite, the Mitchell is by FAR the best value imo, $220 on sale and it's 80% the guitar that the $730 and $850 PRS guitars are, but the PRS guitars play like a dream and the Mitchell always feels slightly harder to play for me lol

Love that guitar. PRS really knows how to build them. Nice tones as always. You have that GTX dialed in nicely!
Ha. Appreciate that Lee!

Hi Tony, cool video - just bought one based on your review - many thanks & regards from Germany
It's fun, well-made and very versatile. Really hope you like it. It's definitely one of my favorites. Awesome to know I have a viewer in Germany. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the video. Knowledgeable and great player!
Big-time appreciate this comment my friend!

Good points here Bertrand. Agree fully. Hadn't thought about the SG/typical gibson comparison (similar without the shortcomings) well put!

It really does look and sound great
It’s really nice. Very cool to see you in the comments my friend.

Does it stay in tune using the tremolo. ??

It does, just don't do anything too crazy. For that you will need Gotoh or Floyd Rose trem.
Is PRS se standard 24 is good or should I go for yamaha pacifica 612 which has Seymour duncan, in my place the yamaha is $250 cheaper than PRS

I got one. Impressive.

How much does it weight in kilos.??
7.75 pounds divided by 2.2. I’ll let you do the math I’m just not that great at it.

Definitely would love to catch up Robert. We have to meet up some day. That would be great.

Wow I really have to give the Mitchell a go then. I’ve been tempted a couple times but haven’t pulled the trigger. Appreciate your comment.
