679$ in the US vs 1000€ here in germany, thats just annoying and i don`t like the proprietary pickups so i just stick to schecter and LTD in this price range. cheers 🎸🎸
Pulled the trigger on a gorgeous vintage burst. This one is a two-piece and the grains match beautifully. After 50 years of playing countless guitars, passing through my hands, the special 22 Limited edition is the best guitar on the planet. Because the Special 22 is so pricey I ordered one of these for playing out. I fully expect that it will deliver everything I need at a fraction of the cost.
Ever since seeing your video on this PRS SE Swamp Ash Special, I have been very tempted to get one. Well, today, I finally gave in to that temptation and bought one. Of course I had to have one of the beautiful Iris blue ones! Wow, this guitar is awesome. It’s fun to play, sounds great and it is certainly a looker. Now I’m wondering why it took me so long to get it. 😉
I'm truly impressed with the versatility of this guitar, the tone assortment, the price and how close are the strings to the frets without buzzing and allowing bendings in the highest frets. A real WOW guitar.
First PRS I ever played was an American Swamp ash special from the 90s. Had a split rail pickup in the middle. Such a nice guitar with tones and playability for a lifetime of enjoyment.
I have one of the original US made ones from the 90's with the original McCarty pick ups and Seymour Duncan rails. Still kicks ass. Not sure why they ever stopped making them. Nice to them making a comeback .
mine arrived today. It looks like a one piece body because they so beautifully matched two pieces. It is gorgeous. If you look long enough, you will find two piece bodies out there like mine. Beyond its beauty is the incredible tone. It is a blues monster. The single coil tones are so glassy. It gives me shivers. It will replace my fender, USA professional ii strat as my favorite single coil guitar. My only beef is that the fingerboard edges are not rolled. That really does make a big difference, but I will probably sand it down myself. The quality of the build is ridiculous, just perfect. I can’t say enough nice things about this guitar except buy one while they’re 20% off because the price of these things is going to go through the roof.
the best itteration of the SAS was the one that had Narrow field pickups, since we probably wont see a re issue of the NF3 i would love to see a SE SAS type D version (the type D pickups used in the vela and s2 studio) for some reason the pickup rings on this seem very pointy for me, 100% would need those changed out or rounded off. cant wait to get one of these though
Just ordered one via Sweetwater (backorder till Jan 24 on the Iris Blue) after watching your fantastic demo. Thanks Darrell I hope y'all stay warm this winter. Looking to be a cold one
What do you think of it now? Would love to hear some feedback. I am ready to pull the trigger but somehow I am hesitating to see if it’s the right choice 😊
@@cvynt9756 im curious too what others think, i bought one about a week ago, the frets are really small, im used to jumbo, and the pickups are real microphonic, they really pick up the noise of hand movements, sliding, and such. It came setup great, it feels great and its beautiful, im still undecided. I also dont like center pickups, but i wanted the maple fretboard, not many choices with PRS. I thought about changing the bridge pickup to something like a burstbucker.
I feel exactly the same as you about the looks of that guitar. It’s gorgeous. Plus the maple fingerboard is an absolute I picture also think that helps to give it its snap. I myself would rewire that so I could utilize that single coil as a single coil. As an owner of a SE and one that holds its own with my Les Paul and my fender Strats, I could see myself looking for one of those. Nice job, Darrel
and I would say that you want to rewire it for single coil because in your mind, that’s necessary to get certain tones. Believe me when I tell you the single coil tones on this guitar are insane. You don’t need to change a single thing to get glassy, single coil, quack that would send the most outstanding Stratocaster running with his tail between his legs. This guitar is single coil, heaven.
Cool PRS dude! Hey, I just pulled the trigger on a Yamaha Pacifica after weighing the pros and cons and checking out your review. I was over at Sweetwater and it was out of stock for like 8 months but as soon as I got the notification it was back in stock (today) I got it. \m/ I really enjoy your channel dude, keep it up.
As the owner of 2 PRS SE guitars, I would love to add this one as well. If I were to own one, I would replace the three-way switch with a "Free-Way" Switch (I like to use the middle pickup by itself), and replace the pickups with Seymour Duncan pickups.
Don’t buy one to play great for the wall the look fantastic but you will have to set up the trem as that was way out replace with a with a tusq nut gohta machine head tuners or core mk3 model PRS tuners and then this cheap design method of bolt on kneck will still let you down going out of tune usually going high so be prepared to spend more money on it initially on top of your $400 it’s like a pretty girl that just misbehaves all the time
One of my local shops have the black version…I’ve been eyeing it for a week now lol. Thinking I want something between my classic vibe and esp ec1000…or maybe the Yamaha 612.
Yeah, that's a really nice guitar. top on my list right now. There has to be a simple wiring mod to get the middle by itself. Thats the only flaw is that they didn't add a 5 way switch. I'd swap the pickups and tuners though. I'll also change the bridge with a MannMade. Then will be an amazing guitar.
I had one of the very first SAS's in Seafoam Green and loved it. I would grab one of these in a heartbeat but for one thing: the wide-thin neck. The original SAS was wide-fat. I just don't get along with skinny necks.
Soon as they became available I simply had to have one in this amazing colour Definitely not disappointed. It is an AMAZING guitar My seventh Prs and one of the very best SE PRS s are so damn good 🎸👍😎
NIce one! Pretty extreme stuff when you pull the tone knob - but I can see it being quite useful for some of the stuff I do so thanks for the demo! Rosewood would be preferable to the maple but can't have it all, I guess!
Brilliant, this could be my first double cut guitar. Well done PRS this is such a complete package i.m convinced. personally i like the V burst better but , hey, this is sweet.
I bought Fiore last week. It's amaizing. I compared it to my USA singlecut 2001 and the sustain is similar and a lots of fantastic tones. This swamp ash special SE is close to old one swamp ash i think. It was my wishlist before Fiore. Perfect option
I like how PRS revamps their SE models aesthetics to be more aligned with their US made guitars (since 2017? if I’m not mistaken). It’s visually beautiful, sounds great and it offers good value for its price compared to competitors at its price range.
I just got the sunburst delivered ! 9.6 lbs ! Boat anchor ! Needs neck or saddle adjustment. Fine grain wood, nothing like anyone I've seen on the net. It's going back !
By any chance are you selling that guitar? It has beautiful wood grain, more than other examples I've seen online and the 3 pieces are matched very well.
I like and I love it, waiting for the maple fretboard but where is my 24 frets? I like PRS for their extra frets. So Instead I just purchased a PRS SE CE 24 from AMS, blood orange color.
You convinced me Darrell. I purchased the guitar. Not many remaining. I practically had to beg my guitar store to sell their last remaining one to me and not to someone else. I believe PRS is now backlogged with orders to May 2024. I guess we can blame this video for that. 😁
I own a 2019 PRS Custom 24 SE roasted maple that I bought in 2019. It has a roasted maple neck with black bird inlays. There was only 2,200 made for the US market. Mine is in Trampus Green. I can’t say enough good things about it. 🇺🇸
Man have yet to find a prs thats lured me over, the silver sky came close but these are beautiful and sounds insanely good 👏😍 might have to shell out again lol 🔥
That’s such a gorgeous guitar man. I also love your playing. It’d be so awesome if you did some slide playing sometime akin to a fellow Canadian (and the guy who inspired me to pick up the guitar) Ian Thornley.
I REALLY wish ORS would make this or the NF3 maple neck in a wider nut width. Why don't they have anything over 43mm nut :( People over 6ft and large hands need it!!
Hey Darrell, love your reviews, so helpful! Hey brought one of these home last night, mixed feelings as there is No sustain at all! Small quibble over sharp bridge saddle on low E, and some slightly sharp frets, but the sustain is a problem! What to do? Just need full set up? Had a Prs se custom 22 semi-hollow with same 58/15s pickups and sustain was amazing! What say you?
Love the flexibility though I wish it was more of a 2408 setup so you could get a neck single if needed. Still, sounds great and would be a cool do nearly everything axe.
I LOVE this PRS! The look is incredible, but the tones are killer. With the switching, it actually sounds like two completely different guitars rolled into one. It actually has the quacky & twangy Fenderish tones that most PRS guitars don’t have…. wiithout sacrificing the classic PRS sound. Great video, too. Thanks!
Every PRS is better than a Fender and a Gibson together!! Even the SE's! That's a super strat with carbon nut and a beautiful working PRS std. Trem! Don't forget the beautiful birdies! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
I agree , but you have to admit, the fender tele is nice as well and to me, the G&L lineup is very well in sound and make. Combination, I would gear with the PRS SAS, Fender American Tele, G&L Comanche strat and either a Gibson Les PauL or the PRS SE McCarty 594.

Beautiful guitar! But especially in this color seems my Ibanez RG370AHMZ: swamp ash body, maple fretboard and HSH configuration. PRS inspired by Ibanez?😅
@darrellbraunguitar if you had to choose between this or a sire s7 which would you choose? I have a sire on order but am considering this. I don’t have a chance to play either before hand.
I love the look of a maple fingerboard on a PRS! Let me know what you think!

I only wish you could switch all of the pick-ups to single coil. Other than that, what's not to love. Regardless, I wouldn't mind owning one.

i personally love maple fretboards, and seeing this from a PRS is just wow
I love maple fretboards as long as they’re satin and not gloss. For some reason, Squier is good about this but not Fender…
I think this is my absolute favorite PRS I've ever seen. Maple fretboard, single and humbuckers, the look is stellar.
Shame you can't have just the single by itself
I'm truly impressed with the versatility of this guitar, the tone assortment, the price and how close are the strings to the frets without buzzing and allowing bendings in the highest frets.
A real WOW guitar.
If you have this guitar, don’t you find it very hard to play. Very uncomfortable to hold?
Here are the pickup configurations if anyone is wondering...
Push/Pull Down:
1. Bridge HB / 2. Bridge HB + Neck HB / 3. Neck HB
Push/Pull Up:
1. Bridge HB + Middle / 2. Bridge HB + Middle + Neck Split / 3. Neck Split + Middle
The inlay really looks great with maple fretboard and the green color pulls it all together. One of the best SE's I have seen. Great find for sure.
First PRS I ever played was an American Swamp ash special from the 90s. Had a split rail pickup in the middle. Such a nice guitar with tones and playability for a lifetime of enjoyment.
This is why PRS is my favorite. Such an amazing company that makes the most amazing guitars!
I was super stoked to see the new additions to the SE lineup. Decisions, decisions.
Nice and clear pickups. Even when they're distorted.
HOLY SWEETNESS!!! And, as usual, not sure what was more glorious... the guitar, or the dude making it sing!!!
Keep in mind that this an advertisement paid for by PRS... Nice playing though - I agree.
