    So happy you have a UA-cam channel! I've been following your blog for YEARS! You even did a recipe I requested once, I believe it was for lemony shampoo. Seriously thank you. I gave up making things at home because of a moldy accident. Now I make almost everything I use again, just with the preservatives you shared about. Thanks so much!

    So Iam from India and the silica and it's alternative you mentioned is not really possible to get right now. So i read in the encyclopedia that kaolin clay can be used as thickener, if yes than how much should i be using for this recipe. And if possible do send me a link where I can get these chemicals on, dilevered to India

    Oh! Excellent idea! I bought silicon microspheres but haven't used them yet. Will add them to my oil serum! I add coco caprylate caprate at 15% and Squalane or FCO to thin my GLA-rich borage oil out, as well as a touch of silicone. But I prefer your rose salve to any oil serum before sleep.
    I also add anti-acne EO blend and they definitely work (although I think that my niacinamide cream plus Ordniaries retinol is what does the heavy lifting).

    I'm would like to make an oil, glycerin, gold mica, and silica mix. Do I need a preservative because of the glycerin?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 років тому

      Honestly, drop the glycerin. It won't emulsify, and from what I'm guessing you're trying to do, it's not going to add much to the end product other than the need for an emulsifier and a preservative, which is over complicating things for the end result you'd get :)

    I made the oil and I had an increase in blocked pores. Could it be because of the comedogenic rating of Evening Primrose Oil? I've had to stop using it unfortunately.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  6 років тому

      Without isolating out the individual ingredients it's hard to know which ingredient it could've been. It is worth noting the comedogenic scale isn't worth much in the world of skin care (colinsbeautypages.co.uk/comedogenic-scale-ignore/), but regardless if something is clogging your pores I'd recommend ceasing use. See if you can find out exactly which ingredient was problematic so you know to avoid it in the future :)

      That's sort of like asking if there was a reason I didn't have macaroni for dinner... no real reason, I didn't intentionally decide NOT to have macaroni, there are just a lot of things I like to eat lol. You certainly could use it instead of the almond oil if you were so inclined.

    Marie, I live in California and Prop 65 prohibits the use ofSilica and titanium dioxide in cosmetics. Even though its just for me, what can I substitute those with OR can I just leave those ingredients out all together? Thank you for your expertise!

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  3 роки тому

      Hey Lisa! Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I'm not confident you're interpreting that regulation correctly. If that was the case, you wouldn't really be able to buy any makeup in California-that's how prevalent titanium dioxide is in cosmetics. Every foundation I've ever seen, from Cover Girl to Chanel, contains titanium dioxide. I have purchased makeup containing both these ingredients from California. I've also purchased both silica and titanium dioxide specifically for use in cosmetics from a California-based supplier many times (TKB Trading). Both ingredients are classified as potential carcinogens if inhaled in large amounts, but that is easily mitigated by wearing a dust mask during manufacturing, and formulations will be structured to weigh the ingredients down so inhalation is not a large concern. I do not have safety concerns about these ingredients when used properly :) I do not recommend leaving them out of formulations that require them. You can learn more in the Humblebee & Me DIY Encyclopedia (www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia/), but when called for, they are both usually doing a job that cannot be done by other ingredients. Happy making!

      If you want to make it a cream you are now looking at a completely different product-that's sort of like asking how to turn pancakes into soup. To make it a bit thicker you can swap out a few grams of one of the liquid oils for mango butter.

    • @HumblebeeAndMe

      No-never mix anything into sunscreen. Sunscreen is a very complex product and something as simple as changing an emulsifier can radically alter the SPF. Mixing things into your sunscreen can drastically alter the protection you are getting and put you at risk! Have you tried Japanese sunscreens? I love them! Non-greasy and waaaaaay better that the ones I can get in Canada.

    Aren't microspheres bad for the environment? I thought they were being phased out of cosmetic applications?

      It's good you're concerned :) You're thinking of microbeads, which area very different. Silica microspheres are several orders of magnitude smaller than microbeads (you need a microscope to see the spheres) and would not end up being mistaken for food by marine wildlife.
