I don’t have access to hemisqualene here in the UK, so I used olive squalene instead and used the serum as a sort of overnight hair mask, and honestly, it is BRILLIANT. It leaves my hair incredibly soft and shiny and is so easy to comb through. Just thought I’d mention an alternative use! 😊
Oooh, very cool! Thanks so much for sharing and I'm glad you love it! 😄
Do you wash your hair in the morning?
"Do I look gorgeous yet?"haha You make me laugh! Thanks for another brilliant recipe .
Thanks! :P
I love this!!!⭐ Thank you, Marie!!!🌹 This hair serum makes my hair shiny and soft and bouncy! If I put too much in, (a little really does go a long way), it looks great after I wash it, kind of like a hair mask! If I use the *tiniest* bit around my face, it smoothes the fly-aways. My hair literally looks 10 years younger! This is a simple, cheap way to make beautiful hair!!!
WOOHOO! I'm so thrilled to hear that you're loving it ❤️ Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)
Made this. Love it. Instant fave.
(Mods: grapeseed oil, squalane...'tis what I had on hand.)
I have a lot of hair yet still managed to underestimate this serum. ONE SQUIRT WILL DO, FOLKS.😗👌She ain't kidding. 🤣 **(Especially if, like me, you used squalane instead; it's heavier, better suited to skin, and lacks the dry-touch lightness of hemisqualane.)**
Anyway.
Absolutely love the fact that my hair feels+smells divine on a dime. This worked wonders on my wavy hair despite my heavy-handed application.
Not sure you'll see this, as this is an old video, but I love what you do for the formulator community. I never would have gotten into this had it not been for you. Thanks again, Marie.🐝Take care! 🌹
This is awesome. I made it two days ago and got to use it last night. Ive akways looked for a leave in that is not spray in since i tend to over do it. This is heaven. I used the acv conditioner and then the serum. Thank you so much.
YAY! I am so glad you are enjoying it! :D Thanks for DIYing with me :)
I actually really love this serum!! It does wonders for my curly hair daughter! I only find that it separate a little , and I find it hard to get them better together with shaking.. is it an idea to mix the mixture with a handmixer? Would that be more stabiele? Thanks a lot xxxx
I luv how u know ur stuff and ur enthusiasm!!!
Thanks so much for watching!
Please please make an under eye serum! I love your products and i need an idea so much about my eyes.

I love your channel and recipes. I appreciate that you give a lot of details about the ingredients and why you used them and alternatives. Can you add panthenol or silk amino?
Thanks! The reason I didn't include panthenol (Vitamin B5) or silk is because both are water soluble, and this is an oil based serum.
Hello. Thank you so much for this ! I'm working on something similar but I need to preserve it. Can you please recommend any preservative that will work well with this recipe ?
Hi Marie, I made this serum using the ordinary hemisqualane brand as I couldnt find the neossance in Australia and it worked out really well. Fantastic recipe thank you.
Hooray! Thanks for DIYing with me, and happy making :)
Hello. I just discovered your wonderful videos. Is it possible to use the BTMS-50 and Hemisqualane with castor oil and rosemary oil?
Please, could I use the same formula for a FACE serum? And can I use cethyl alcohol instead of the Btms 50 you use? Love from Bolivia 🇧🇴
Looks like I need this, as I sit here with plaintain infused Camellia oil on my dry hair. Next a scalp soother for several hrs, then a shower!
That sounds like a decadent hair treat! :)
I made this 4 days ago! This, and the calendula eye balm, became my first humblebee projects yay!
However I think something went a little wrong in the process. The BTMS never fully dissolved, the color wasn't opaque as yours. There were flakes that remained even after I heated and held a little longer in low heat. Eventually I ended up with less than 25 g because I had to strain the flakes. It still emulsifies and works great on (still a win!) Do you have any experience similar to this? Perhaps with BTMS-50 I should stir throughout the heat-and-hold? It's my first time using this ingredient and I want to love it. Yesterday I did a quick trial melting some grapeseed oil and BTMS-50 and that resulted in an even, slightly opaque mixture. I'm gonna do a trial again this evening with added cetyl alcohol and see how it goes.
Hmm. What's the ambient temperature like where you live? What elevation do you live at? You can give the mixture a quick blast in the microwave if your water bath isn't getting hot enough :)
Humblebee & Me I live nearly at sea level but it was around 20-24 C that evening. Thanks for the suggestion, Marie. I will do more tweaking and take notes :)
Wonderful recipes in ur channel. Can't thank u enough! I am gonna try with soy Squalane. Dear can we add water in this formulation?
Hi Marie 😁 I’m a huge fan of your work. I made my first lip balm yesterday by following your online free course 😊 It smells lovely. Today I’m making a conditioner using aloe Vera, babussu oil, sweet almond oil, cetyl alcohol, emulsifying NF and Germall preservative. The problem is I’m unsure of how much of the Germall I should use. I’ve done my research and the recommended usage is 1.0% - 5.0. When I watch your videos I see you normally use 5.0%.😐. Also with the emulsifying wax and cetyl alcohol, does the amount of these two ingredients depend on the amount of water use? In other words Can I use 4 cups of water and maybe 10 grams of ewax and cetyl alcohol? Should the water and oil balance out or can I have more water than oil for a looser texture? Do you have any suggestions for me?
Hey! So, you've got some decimal issues.
The recommend usage rate is 0.1%-0.5%.
I use 0.5% (HALF a percent) NOT 5%!
I can't answer your last question well as you can't mix volume and weight measurements like that-you'll need to do everything in percentages. Since if sounds like you're still pretty new to DIYing I'd recommend following a tried-and-tested conditioner recipe before striking off on your own. Something like this (www.humblebeeandme.com/olive-and-jojoba-silk-conditioner/) would be a good place to start; it already has the aloe and you could use babassu for the jojoba and sweet almond for the olive. You will want to get BTMS-50 as that's what makes this a hair conditioner and not a hair lotion :)
yes I actually meant to type 0.1% - 0.5% doing many things at once lol and thanks so much for the recommendation. I will keep you posted on the results. Thank you
Hi there,
I have to say I absolutely enjoy your videos! For this particular formula, can I make it water based formular as well instead of all oil based ingredients? Since btms 50 and cetyl alcohol can be the emulsifiers? Thank you again for sharing your knowledges!
You could, but that would require a total re-development of the formulation-similar to trying to make a sandwich recipe as a soup :) Good luck and happy making!
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you!!💕👍
Hello, can i use it right after washing my hair ? Thank you so much. Loveee
Yes you can!
Thank you for sharing with us😄😊☺
Thanks for watching :)
Hi marie i completely adore your recipes. Recently i have made a lotion but it has become quite runny can you plz plz tell a solution to this plzzz
Thanks for watching! I'm afraid I can't without more details-did you make any changes? When did it change? What preservative did you use? Your question is sort of like "I made this food and it tastes funny, why?" :)
Hi mam plz make vedio face peeling .how to use
Hi... Humble bee...as per name ..your so humble and so kind.. I looovvvve all your diy videos..
Pls pls pls do make a video about natural preservatives and it's effectiveness. Looking forward for a favourable response . Hope you do post
I'm afraid that's not a topic that particularly interests me, but there are some great resources here: www.makingskincare.com/preservatives/ :)
Great video. What is the name of light oil watery liquid?
Duolan Brown the ingredients are listed it's the Neossance
Dear lovely lady, can I use Hemisqualane instead of squalane by itself as a facial oil in my skincare routine? Since it's also deprived from sugarcane?
Would it still have the sebum balancing effect that squalane does? (my skin is oily/acne-prone). I'm using the ordinary squalane oil but finding it a tad bit greasy. Thank you so much!
You can, but I can't speak to the sebum balancing effect potential.
can it be used on scalp?
Hi! Are you selling your book on Amazon? Can you send me the link? I always love you videos!!!
Definitely! www.humblebeeandme.com/make-it-up-preorder/ (There are links to lots of different Amazons there since you didn't mention where you live)
Hello!! Quick question, would you be able to use the hemisqualane as a substitute for water in lotions? Ive become addicted to your videos lol and am trying to find a more natural way to preserve my products and im wondering if this could replace waters in lotions
No; that would be like substituting olive oil for broth in a soup recipe. Using a fat instead of water is a fundamental change to a recipe. You’re correct that it would remove the need for a preservative, but it will yield a fundamentally different product that would not be a lotion.
Thankyou so much!
Hi Marie! Quick possibly really dumb question, lol: Is there a difference between cetyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol NF? Mine Looks so different than yours.. :s
"NF" stands for "National Formulary", which you've likely seen in "Emulsifying Wax NF" before-it's a standard of manufacture and purity. It's still pure cetyl alcohol, though :)
Thank you!!!
Couldn’t find Neossance™ Hemisqualane😢
😊I love this
❤️
can yu make products with goat milk powder plz?
nice. i have to try squalene.
Hemisqualane is really different from squalene-it is so light and silky and amazing! Squalene is nice, too, but don't form an opinion about Hemisqualane from using squalene :)
oh thanks thats good to know :-)
Please can you make a deep conditioner for curly kinky dry hair as this would really help those with Afro hair . Also what would be great is if you can show us how to make shampoo and body wash using surfactants for dry hair and skin. Thank you so much
www.humblebeeandme.com/crazy-hair-pudding/ :)
Have you checked out the blog? There's over a thousand recipes there, including shampoos and body washes!
hello there do i need both the cetyl and the btms if they both are conditioning agents?
whats is one providing that the other isn't that makes them both needed?
Hey! You'll find the answers you're looking for in the Humblebee & Me Encyclopedia at www.humblebeeandme.com/diy-encyclopedia. Simply look up the ingredient(s) in question to learn about why they're used in formulas, substitutions, what they do, usage rates, and more. This is also discussed in the partner blog post. Happy making!
Where did you get your beakers from?
Amazon! amzn.to/2wKga88
Hi I bought natures bounty vitamin e on Amazon. Can I use that one.
You'll want to use a cosmetic grade vitamin E. You can read more here: realizebeauty.wordpress.com/2015/02/13/is-vitamin-e-a-preservative-and-can-too-much-cause-pro-oxidation/ :)
Hi there. Can you please help me with this solution. I tried a similar recipe but my oils started to settle at the bottom. And emulsion on the top even though I mixed the whole solution thoroughly
Since there is no water in this it isn't an emulsion-this will be some sort of density issue. A liquid format may not be successful, but it's hard to say since you didn't make my formulation :)
@@HumblebeeAndMe thank you for your response. Mine has no water in it either. It's a mixture of olive oil, mustard seed oil, squalane, turmeric oil and some essential oils with vitamin e.
Can you use olive derived squalane oil?
Check the blog :)
All hail emulsifier!
🙌🏻
Can I use armocare instead of btms
It looks like it could work :)
Can you use jojoba oil instead?
Yes, though that will likely make it a bit heavier (which may or may not be awesome for your hair-you know best!).
can i skip cetyl alcohol?
Try it and see what you think :) Have you read the blog post to learn more about the rationale behind the formulation? Happy making!
Hello dear ... i look for "Neossance Hemisqualane" on Amazon and didn't find it ... if there is any alternative for it please
Please read the blog ;)
