I was wondering if that wasn't because he didn't lube that area well. Please let me know as I always used 'gear lube'inside the spring area, and greased the 'tabs'and crank shaft.

Put a 265 for short track. 355 for drag. Cute the deck the block. Polish the head chamber. Cut the holes where the push rods go in the block so the oil will run better. Put nidalee roller bearings on the cam. Vent the block from the side cover, and where the governor delete is put a vent tube that goes up and around the frame, so the oil won't escape. The oil will push about 3 or 4 inches out so it's not getting blown around the crank case. People will call me crazy but it works. Lighten the crank but make sure it stays equal as you cut it down. It will let you get more rpm. I was building them getting 12 13 thousand rpm. There's more little tricks I figured out but to long to tell. Get a custom intake built that swirls like a gun riffling. Yeah I’ll take one please. That engine is an absolute beast. Thought the side cover was gonna come off. Never seen a 212 shoot flames through a muffler
Now your speaking my language. I use to race years ago in the flathead outlaw methanol class. And when I switched back to gas it was so boggy feeling compared to that quick fast response of the methanol motor.i had to keep the pull start off the engine cover the high quick RPMs would break the spring and the cord would just shoot out the cover.

I'm a car guy, but with such tight spaces, you might consider checking the index of that spark plug to make sure the bottom electrode doesn't face the center of the combustion chamber.
Typically, a AR3910X plug is used in these small engines which cannot really be indexed, but I agree there is an advantage ever so slightly, to indexing the plug.😁

Painting the block was a great idea because a black cooling fin will dissipate heat better than any other color and unpainted metal. In fact the cooling difference can be as much as 15 degrees F. I would use specific heat sink paint. Although while running methanol you will not need it as methanol burns cooler by 40 degrees.
i hope you welded that muffler on , the cap will only stay if you put a back - off nut on it to keep single nut from spinning off and put a lock washer between them , some say no , i have never had one back off and dam near couldnt get a bunch of them loosened up when needed without stripping bolt , some of threads .
