I'm a Ford guy myself but right now I'm wiping tears off my screen .
So sad to see these beautiful pieces of history sitting in a dusty old building .
I hope they all found a good home.

i followed this on tv and the auction afterwards and i got goosebumps when i saw all those seeing daylight for the first time, plastic still on the seats, and the build sheet still on the windows. time literally stood still with those beauties!

You understand back then cars had style, just one look and you knew what someone was driving because of it. Today, due to cookie cutter styling, there are sometimes I have to look real hard before realizing what they are......

Jelly Bean styling and build. At least the Chrysler\Dodge have vehicles that different Challenger and Charger.

+Vaughn Dehoff im not saying anything bad about these cars by any means but people need to adapt and change. some cars made today are much better vehicles than the cars of the past. yes I know a lot of cars today are made of fiberglass and plastic, but not all of them are shit. most of the people on here talking shit say they would prefer these cars over the cars today but in all reality, they would be bitching about these beautiful, American muscle dream machines. I personally love older vehicles myself, but I do understand that the cars today, some of the cars today, are honestly much nicer vehicles overall. I know driving around in a 56' with no ac, horrible emissions and 6 or 7 miles to the gallon in a state like Florida where 100 degree summers happen all to often is not what you'd want to have to deal with for 8 months out of the year. yes having a weekend warrior like one of these in the garage would be nice, but if you couldn't ride in this everyday all day without complaining, quit bitching about the cars today. id be willing to bet the majority of the people bashing today's cars, drive one everyday proudly.

The problem was he was a hoarder, And that's not uncommon for people who grew up during the depression and threw the war years, were you worked your ass and at the end of the day you literally had less then nothing. Very few of the cars were all that special or rare, they were just cars that did not sell, and most were kept outside to rot in the weather and get vandalized threw the years. Some day you will see a story about a guy who saved the very best, and kept them in decent storage, I would never consider this guy a "car guy", just a salesmen who monopolized a small region so he could afford to keep all those cars.

Anibal Babilonia Not sad at all. Collectors will pay an obscene amount for these cars and trucks - including the rusted-out ones. What looks like a pile of rusted metal is actually a pile of gold!

I have a salvage yard and bought two cars from that auction . A wrecked 54 Buick and a 58 Pontiac that was hit also. I've made good off of both of them . I have some more coming from guys who bought cars from there that can't repair or restore the cars and trucks because they shot up their cash buying them or can't afford the project. I'll get them running and driving again and sell them. I won't scrap them. Two 55s,one 58, a64&67 Chevrolets. I repeat I won't scrap them or crush them but get them running and sell them. None of the cars has very many miles on them

Driving a car into a field and abandoning it to the weather is not "saving" it very well. I don't know what this guy's real motivation was but this is a fairly foolish thing to do. By not selling the trade-ins he lost their value.

Love this story. Especially smart, was how the guy would sell a new car, and keep the used car trade in, and not sell it.....creating more of a need for folks to buy new, not many used cars around since he had a bunch.

The place looked as if it was a thriving watering hole for the locals at one point. It must have been one of those places where everybody knew one another and came there to socialize and have a few drinks. It's such a shame that it closed down and all that's left are the memories on the wall and a collapsing roof.

  • @NaYawkr

America cars of the 50's and 60's needed a tune-up every few months, the exhaust systems were plain steel and rotted away in only a few years, the steel of the car had no corrosion protection, and when driven rotted away from road salt in under ten years. If your car was ten years old, it would be a miracle you still could drive it. I saw GM models that hat floor pans rotted through so you could see the lane markings on the pavement between your legs as you drove. The engine oil began forming thick black sludge the moment the engine was turned on. Oil was black because there was no synthetic oil, so even new cars only a month old had engine oil that looked like India Ink.

Obviously don't live here then. Because there are several cars from the 1909,20s,30s,40,50,60,70s80sand 90s still on the road and being driven. Up in the rust belt they do rust but anything rust in those states anyways. But I have a rust free 1953 Chrysler Saratoga,1955 Packard Clipper, 1959 Impala Sport Coupe ,1959 Be Air Wagon, 1977 Aspen and a 55 Cadillac Sedan Deville. all wearing Original Steel.
