Most youtubers have to brainstorm to come up with some content, all you have to do is take your car out for a drive and wait for something to break...gotta love the n54. Keep the vids comin :)
Pretty much haha
Just got a 335i n54.. I should have video the last weeks working on it 😂😢😤😊
Antiseize is your friend!! I use it when installing axles. Makes life way easier if you ever have to remove them again
Good luck with the temporary axle lasting and the new axles arriving.
You're due for some good luck soon.
Keep up the good videos.
Lube the splines of axle and hub with the thinnest film of long life grease like Liqui moly or Sachs clutch spline grease, very thin layer, slides right in
I’m surprised you guys don’t have more subs. This channel is so worth a sub. So much good content. Love it keep up the awesome videos. ❤️
Thanks so much!
That’s too bad. Sorry to hear. I’m working on that rear end right now too. Upgrading bushings, lower trailing arms and lower front arms. You should plan on doing that soon too. Good luck.
N54 Life...The struggle is real. :)
Anything BM Trouble-You is Real!!Wallet buster then you end up with garage full of spares that in the end you don’t need!
N54 life because is only BMW i6 petrol able to produce torque to destroy axles :)
Once the splines are clean use a bit of copper grease on them. Helps them slip into the hub and stop corrosion in the future for removals when needed
Fr bro 😅😅😅
I;ve been through that. Ended up JB welding the hole on the axle. It's been fine for last few months.
Yeah, it may well be fine... but we'll see
I always use a product called Felpro C5A, which is high temp copper based anti-sieze on all axle splines before refitting. I have never had to hammer any axle into the splines, so there would appear to be something wrong if you have to do that. I am keen to see how the new axles fit without hammering....
Little bit less grease wont hurt it man especially for just a week 😊
We're on the same page :D
I have my passenger side HID jumped to the driver side headlight since I got it. It's worked for 3 years now!
Thats a good one.
It would’ve been nice had you shown us where you were tapping on the axle to get it in far enough for the axle nut to thread on..
Good fix! Need to lube the splines!!!!
Finally got all the rot out of my E39 today. Took 4 years, but got there.
Road trip BKK down the coast to HKT next up. Be mad not too see the islands with no tourists about.
Getting my rear axle seals replaced, leaking pretty bad. But axles look great though.
Just off subject.Installed Vargas outlets on righthand drive 135i.Got rid of the squished pipe.Well worth it.Can really notice a diffirence.More low down torque, good jump in power. So if you are sitting on the fence,go for it.Now have inlets and outlets.Keep up the good content👍
Damn!! 2nd run at rolls coming up this weekend since turbos went in, 1st one.... baaaaaad zero traction. LSD installed this week with brace (ordered Monday from BMS arrived Friday) and new 285 semi's! Would be awesome to compare cars!
Slim chance ill be there to be honest. I really dont wanna snap another axle that far from home. But should be all up and running properly for euro day. Are you going to that?
@@ZeroTo60Tube 100% would not be a good thing! I'm booked for All Euro Day can't wait should be an awesome day!!
Fix and brake in same week!! Plenty content
My temporary fix is the upper radiator hose is from plastic breaking when removing carefully old plastic hose I put glue and ducktape later I remove the plastic hose for new hose in the middle
How long did that hold?
@@ZeroTo60Tube still holding the new silicone rubber better then that weak plastic line
Well my boots tore up and I ran the car for about 10k miles without any grease and it ran fine until it finally started to wear the joints lmaoo. Did leave a horrendous mess of grease but make sure you put some oil or grease on the splines when you slide in the axles, makes it easier too.
Sounds like this should be fine for a week or so then!
Using the axle nut to pull the axle is a terrible idea. Especially with a torque gun! That will ruin the threads on both the nut and the axle head and you'll have to replace them both. Don't ask me how I know. :D
I’m not sure if they sell them for the beamers but for the fg turbos Repco drive shaft have proven to be really good for holding power, maybe have a look into them if they are available
Thats interesting. Dont really expect a repco shaft to hold power. Do you know if it is actually branded as repco?
@@ZeroTo60Tube They are a Repco brand, but have a look into it, many people with over 500kw have used the Repco shafts in fg turbos, I’m not sure if they do it for the Beamers, might be something to look into
On my MKIV we would keep rebuild kits on hand and ever time axles would show up for sale grab them and throw a kit at them. Toyota kits were fairly cheap.
i lovee youre vids and you are epic
Check out the e30 ls1 engine swap at mighty car mods , they talk about a cheap available high horse power diff swap for the e30 might be worth a look 😎
Dodgiest thing in the bimmer... So I was racing at the track and midway through the day the hose that goes above the radiator (yeah the straw one), exploded dramatically in the last lap of the session . You would think its an easy fix, problem was this track was 330km away from home and 150 km from the closet store that may have the hose. We called no one in the damn country had it in stock... Refusing to give up, I went to the local town decided to find a way of making the car at least run, went to many shops and found a Opel Corsa his which was the same ID of this hose, so bought it, bought some house water system fittings that fit and teflon.
Back to the car and i cut the hose a bit to remove the straw section and combined both ends with the fittings to make them accept the Corsa hose. Been a permanent fix since that hose is a massive problem in this cars.
Thats nice work!!
Haha we've all been there mate, sometimes a temporary dodgy repair is the only option.
Owning a BMW and keeping said BMW running takes commitment, and I mean real a commitment! Now lets be realistic, it is inevitable that we also need a bit of glue to hold them together at some point. Probably the most reliable component on the car now...
lol
Hey i got my 17ts on tested with dargy 11.9 125 mph spun 1st 2nd
Thats moving dude!!! Congrats.
We've all done dodgys, shoving egg whites in the radiator (18 yo) and fixing a fuel tank crack in cape york with soap - then drive more remote. Pretty sure i put beer and creek water in the radiator once too 😆
Fixing the fuel tank with soap then going further in the wild, thats ballsy haha
0:00 😂 🤣 love it.
Lol not even after 24hrs im watching the axle swap earlier...
Anyway.. no worries.. ive made the similar mistake on my forester sf5..
replacing front wheel bearing..
After i torqued up the axle nut... I felt the front left tyre have abnormal freeplay during driving...
Turns out the axle didnt seat properly...
Retighten those.. and good to go...
Cable ties for the win
Anyone ever part out an erector set to use for hose mount brackets/extensions?
Ahhh I don't know you knocked it in via the wheel side of the cv
I just block of wood it against the diff side of the axle
Still not good for it but only dents it a little where it doesn't matter haha
I need help from you. I have been watching alot of your videos and just have one question. Any information will be appreciated 👍.
I did a DIY on N54 turbos upgrade and after installing everything back together, new turbos, oil lines coolant lines, sub frame and etc..... while I start it up, I have oil consistent leaking from the turbo oil supply line. The area/line that plug into the block. I have and did replaced all old o-rings to new o-rings.
This is why I don't understand why it leaked.
What do you suggest I do to stop the leak?
You will definitely have to remove the line and inspect. Try and work out if its a oring not seating properly or the damaged line. I have seen issues where the line was bent (well the bracket section) and that stopped it from seating the original level...... Hopefully you will be able to see and identify the issue with out taking too much off. Once you work it out please let us know what it is. I try and keep a record of all these sorts of problems and what fixs them for people.
@@ZeroTo60Tube thankyou 🙏.
@@ZeroTo60Tube I have fixed the oil leakage from the area. I took everything back apart and found the new o-ring installed was pinched and chipped a little from the edge. Oil must have seek through that area. Lucky, I bought some extra o-ring for the line so I replaced it and gently press the line to pop into place. No more oil leak from the area.
Thankyou again
Just wondering - are the left and right axles different length? Or could you not use the right axle from the parts car because spinning the opposite way is more likely to break? Cant seem to find this info online.
Left and right are different length. Pretty much on every rear wheel drive car the axles are different lengths between left and right. Because of the ring and pinion gear in the diffs, if you look at a diff from the top or bottom they are not symmetrical, so the diffs are offset to one side which in turn causes the axle lengths to be different.
Call dan @ simply tuning in Brendale. He will probably have one in the workshop somewhere if it packs it in. Did you go seems legit or driveshaft shop for the big boy axles.
Edit: you mentioned it later
Dan had his Driveshaft shop ones for sale a few months ago. Really wish i grabbed them back then..... then again they were $2000 and i really didnt expect to be snapping axles with a auto at the time.
Hello mate. Hi, a question which brakes are on the rear axle and canceled the handbrake. Greetings from Spain.
China specials and the handbrake shoes are still stock.
You owe it to yourself to go back in the channel's history just so you can hear it first hand. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/aX_3u4RzFaU/v-deo.html -- Greetings from Tennessee.
Is your LSD working ? noticed the opposite axel turning in the opposite direction when you turned one side... LSD as far as i know should both turn in same direction ? think you cooked the LSD driving with only one shaft maybe.
A clutched LSD with only lock when force is being applied from the tail shaft. So when there is no load from the engine side, the diff is open. You will get a little bit of clutch drag in certain situations when the car is on the lift. But basically it can open up when the clutches are not under load.
@@ZeroTo60Tube ahh ok didn't know that. Thought it was because the clutches inside the lsd was cooked. The mechanically locking diff fitted to my z3 rotate both wheels in the same direction when i turn one side. Didn't know the clutch type lsd can go fully open with no input applied. Learn something new everyday. On another note, if you build the other n54 engine, do you think a custom twin g25-660 turbo setup could be a possibility... if budget allows that is. Think that setup will be crazy responsive with the potential HP flow of 1320hp.
@@francoiscombrinck3884 About the other 335i, we found a few more issues with it and we just couldnt afford to fix it and then build it not in the next 6-12 months. Not on top of doing my N54 and Daves s62. Its currently in bits at a mates he is trying to get it sorted. Once it's working again we will have an update for the channel.
@@ZeroTo60Tube best of luck, know how that goes. Setbacks are unfortunate but part of the game.
Btw not sure if you guys know this but there's huge potential on the S62 engine just with head work. The British company Ascari bought the S62 off of bmw for the A10 and KZ1 (kz1 being the less tuned 500hp na one) and with just porting, valve job cams and updated/re tuned vanos pulled in the region of 620hp out of the engine in NA form. So making the head breath better and less restriction against the SC will drop intake temps and measured psi but will flow more air into combustion chambers giving a significant boost in power. Maybe something to look into for future mods for the s62
Looks like a proper ball ache, true what you said about doing it on a shitty axle though instead of a new expensive one. Lesson learnt I guess
Yeah, lesson properly learnt.... and i now have the axle puller set. :)
Lesson learned: Don't be like Clarkson in the shop... be like May.
hahaa, thats a good one.
Using proper tools will save you time and money. You only have to do it once.
wouldnt be the first time a zip tie would grace a cv boot...
Definitely not the sketchiest thing I've seen done with Aruldite*
*and it definitely wasn't me doing it 😉
haha
👍
Do you know about this N54/N55/N52/335i/535i/135i Serpentine Belt Guard Protect your engine from sucking in the serpentine belt. I will put it in soon too be safe
Me too
Does seem like a good idea
Yes, i have looked in to them. If you get one cheap enough. Go for it.
@@ZeroTo60Tube its not that expensive it cheaper fix it then the belt sucked in the engine and blocking the oil www.ebay.com/itm/254490645479

I dont think thats a bad bodge, not in the scale of sawdust in gearbox oil to quieten it down 🤣👍🏴
hahaha, are you a used car salesman?
Was a guy a knew trading in an old corolla many years ago, scary thing was it worked
Why mfactory axles?
Price and availability...... but mainly availability. Plus a few people commented on the last vid that were using them at similar power levels.
👨🎓🤞🤞👍👍
