I purchased the Canon 5Ds because it was $1299 and the Canon R5 was $3899 from Adorama. With the money saved I purchased a Tamron 90 f/2.8 VC macro and a Canon 16-35 f/4 IS L lens. I love to shoot macro and landscapes and the 5Ds is perfect for these applications.

Great to see that the 5dsr is still getting some love here, I have been using it for commercial architectural shoots for more than 4 years, its a reliable partner and life saver in many occasions (works like a charm for TS24 and 70-200 combination). Only downside is its weight though, the newer mirrorless are much lighter and less of a burden to carry around especially for outdoor shoots.

The weight is not a problem in the studio sitting on its tripod. For outdoors I have a nice camera backpack that allows quick access to the camera and bullet proof protection. A Rolls Royce weighs more than an economy car and the thick 5Dsr magnesium frame and mirror dampening gears and overall quality build is satisfying compared to the cheap flimsy plastic feel of the newer mirrorless models. For the studio and short handheld shots this is still the best camera other then a high-end medium format - but how many of us are doing old fashion printed outdoor billboards?

Take it from someone who just picked up a Hasselblad H1 and P45+, Scott is right, a high resolution 35mm system is a better investment. The reason older backs are coming down in price now is because the CCD limitations (lack of usable live view and high ISO) coupled with the lack of USB tethering (firewire tethering is being phased out by Mac OS Big Sur and current supported Windows 10 builds) means that even though the files for studio and daylight are incredible, the process of image capture is slower, less refined and low light is near impossible. The value for money is still in 35mm DSLRs and we are spoiled for choice in all price ranges on the used market.

I love the 5DsR files even over the 5D4. Just something about the aesthetic and look out of camera. Question for me is do I add a 2nd 5DsR or a 5Ds. either way they will do me for the next 10 years no problem.
Anyone considering the R5 over the 5DsR.. if you shoot in the studio and don't need the video features go 5DsR.. you can almost buy 3 for the price of one R5. No brainer.
Your thought echo mine on this camera System Scott. Thank you for the video.

First, if you reply, my notifications are not set to let me know. But I used a 5DS and 2 x EOS R bodies for redwoods and portraits. I think the color of those two is similar and I like both. I sold one EOS R and bought an R6 but want another 3rd body that's high resolution. Moire' is rarely reported with the 5DS R so right now I'd say skip the 5DS because the 5DS R has very slightly more detail viewed 100% or 200% and the 5DS prices used are as high or higher for some reason. That leaves whether choosing the R5 which I've considered. But i rarely print portraits or wedding photos 30 inches and the R6 has a bit better dynamic range than the R5 so I've heard. But I'm still almost needing to flip a coin between the 5DS R and the R5. It may be that I love the real-time exposure shown in the new EVF of mirrorless. Now consider this video link where a photographer Sonder gets into the color of the R5 vs. Hasselblad. But carry that thought over into what then would the 5DS R be like for color compared to the R5? For that, I don't have the answer fully. But here >>> ua-cam.com/video/O0AhwX0ViGc/v-deo.html

You hit all of the points on why this camera is most likely the best 35mm studio camera ever made! A 2015 camera that Canon never promoted as we former Hasselblad D- Back users now are loudly embracing and promoting to our fellow artists - even in 2022!
The days of big outdoor billboards are over - LED signs have killed them, medium format is no longer relevant when we have the Canon 5dsr!
This camera can do a Vogue front page without breaking a sweat!
The Canon 5dsr is more than is needed for printed artwork and mega overkill for online. Unlimited cropping of files, brilliant RAW Kodachrome 64 like colors are there if needed, certain depths of field give an almost 3D magical feel. Canon scared buyers away with warning them about MOIRE - my 5dsr cameras and those of others do NOT have Moire , and if the image did have a slight amount it only take a second on the slider to remove it - so the Moire issue is TOTAL BS in the real world. This camera is not a sports photographer point and shoot - it is a camera for artists and perfectionists who want only the best image with unlimited post processing range. In 2022 it is still has the edge on image quality!

Also the violet banding is fixed in comparaison to the 5dm3 when raising shadows. DR is only ok @ iso100-800 but i learned to work around these problems.
