Congratulations, you have turned a unique ax with a beautiful design into an ax for mobile games. There are plenty of such craftsmen in modern Blizzard. 🤣
Hey guys! Sorry for the long gap between uploads. Like I said in the vid, irl got in the way a bit lately and I sadly had to prioritize other things over making content. That said, I hope you enjoy this new way of showing the texturing. I'm still trying to figure out how to do it for the optimal viewing experience, so if you have any feedback, like maybe you think the timelapse is a bit too fast, do let me know :) Also, like I said about tutorials, if you have any sources you recommend for learning stylized art, you're more than welcome to leave a comment! Who knows I might put together a course oneday if I feel like I am ready for it, but for now I'll be leaving it to others. As always thanks for watching, and I hope you enjoyed my updated Draconic Avenger!
Congratulations, you have turned a unique ax with a beautiful design into an ax for mobile games. There are plenty of such craftsmen in modern Blizzard. 🤣
Blizzard should start a program that allows creators to remake old models and submit them to be added to WoW. They could be voted on somehow.. Then whoever wins can get their name added in flavor text to the item they created.
Congratulations, you have turned a unique ax with a beautiful design into an ax for mobile games. There are plenty of such craftsmen in modern Blizzard. 🤣
"Fine if Blizzard won't hire him, I'll do it myself" - Asmon probably while putting on the infinity gauntlet. Gratz on the sponsor your work is awesome. This was one of the best-looking weapons in classic WoW, I loved having this back in the day. Your take on it is fire man.
Nice job!!! Our bald overlord will 💯% watch this on his channel and will love that you did this along with talking to us again about how awesome the “good old days” were when he had a full head of greasy unwashed hair and not just a balding head of greasy hair
I always found the OG Draconic avenger a bit too messy on the details but DAMN what you did of this is insane, I wish this would have been the Legendary axe instead of the scuffed red shadowmourne we got
Every time I watch one of these videos, I am blown away by just how good you are at this. Frankly I am amazed you aren't flooded with offers from game studios wanting you to work for them.
Very nice job done to this epic classic weapon. I don't understand why Blizzard can't make items with the old style but with better quality like you do.
Heck yeah. Any chance for some Zin'Rokh TLC? They spun the blade around at some point after vanilla, but the original had that like.. that toothy bit? beneath the head at the end of the blade facing forward. The change made it feel way less savage. Before it was like a pterodactyl or shark about to eat something! Either way. Big fan. Great work!
One day blizzard should patch every one of your pieces into the game, they most definetely are worthy of being a replacement for the old ones, as you're really nailing the artstyle and have proven you know how to completely rework something, but still stay completely true to the original.. Just better! Keep it up my guy, every one of these you upload i'll be there to enjoy and throw you a like 👍
It's awesome to see these weapons/armor/mounts get much deserved upgrades. It's terribly frustrating not having access to them in-game; I'll take what I can get though :P
If I had to break this down into a simple process it would be something like this; Block in second to darkest values for the general shape. Add mid tones where light would mostly be hitting the object. Add light values where lighting is strongest/reflecting. Create variance using the mid tones to indicate form in the brightest parts [blade edge/dents]. Add your brightest values to the apex point, where the lighting would be strongest based on your lighting source location [here it's central and above so highlights go central and above]. Add your darkest values to creases to imply light not hitting there. Blend evenly except where you're implying form of the shape, or texture in the form of dents. Textures are etched with 2nd to darkest value for outlines of shapes [scales]. Mid tones and highlights function as before, blended unless implying texture. Highlights should follow the contour of the overall shape of the object but should be interrupted by the dark values of the texture etching. Brightest highlights should be on the edges depending on the direction of the lighting for each textured part [scales]. Inlays act in reverse of everything else with your light source. If everywhere else shadows go on the underneath [cast by a top light], and highlights go on the top [cast by the top light]. Then etching shadows now go on top, and highlights go underneath. Red part: 6:28 example The reason for this inverse is that there is a slope going into the etching from the blade. Therefore, the slope casts a shadow on the top part caused by the front overhead light. And the lighting reflects off of the bottom slopes, cast by the overhead light. I should add: Not all shadows are the same. Shadows that hit the object head on are evenly diffused unless there is a geometric reason to break it up with a harsh shadow. Look at the handle for example. The leather is evenly diffused. Shadows that are cast by another object, have a clear line to them with maybe soft diffusion depending on how close/far the lighting is. The closer the light source, the harder the line.
i discovred that axe while playing catacysme after seeing a wargen warior have 2 of it on it's back, became my favorite axe design forever since, thank you for this tribute
A little bit of unnecessary nitpicking, but since an axe is a hafted weapon having that neat tri-claw adornment near the top of the shaft would make it impossible to wield the axe properly. But your remake in no way loses points for that it’s 11/10 you absolutely killed it here dude!!
Man, I'm right there with you. Updated BWL gear would've been amazing. I also desperately wish they'd give fan artists an opportunity to contribute to the game directly via something akin to design contests in FFXIV. Anything, really. I'm constantly blown away by the work creators like you do on the regular.
I for one would LOVE to see you renew Atiesh! A simple yet elegant legendary staff that I'm sure would be rather fun. It's got a great lore and questline too alongside it.
This is one of my favorite weapons in the game. The axe has some designs that you missed. The red areas on the neck and on the blade. There's no need to change those, lol. But all and all, excellent work. She's a beaut👌
I have that in a vault and mog it occasionally. Didn't know it was special- just saved it for sentiment of who I was playing with. Apparently a lot of the old raid gear I packratted is not available now.
Its not just the [Draconic Avenger] which i wished had gotten a remodel, its big brother [Drake Talon Cleaver] and smaller siblings [Doom's Edge] and [Crul'shorukh, Edge of Chaos] too.
This looks great. One thing I will say, I always felt like the red on the axe blades themselves were representative of the breath of fire of a dragon, so it was more long, and narrow, with the widest part being on the outside (the initial flame that has had time to expand as it pushes outwards). You didn't quite capture that on yours, making it more of a decorative embellishment to fill in the space. Maybe I'm wrong, and that wasn't their intention, but it definitely fit the theme more for me.
I actually love his, only change I would have made is make the red glow (like you say, still red hot, freshly breathed on feel). I actually like the new style WoW has of cleaner models with fewer and more stand-out details, and Tomkek fits that style so well every time. Part of it is not always having the same tools or someone to bounce those ideas off of, and since the original technically didn't glow he probably was trying to stick to that classic idea.
i love these videos actually seeing weapons ive asked to see modernized actually getting changed (yes even though its not ingame and its just someones video) i can only hope to see that sword from the end of the ghostlands the "sin'dorei warblade" actually look like a sword and not a bunch of red/orange/yellow/white pixals
i actually prefer the shape and dimensions of the original. nice shading and 3d elements as usual, but the OG had a much cooler look overall with is broader blade and smaller dragons.
One single guy at home literally putting an entire company of devs to shame. The trash they come out with lately & that this masterpiece of a weapon hasn't been updated in 18 years whilst Blizz devs pour time into the power of friendship and telly tubby cinematics is everything that's wrong with the game at the moment. Man TF up Blizz, start taking notes off Tomkek's work.
You, my dear tomkek, are the greatest asset to the WoW mod scene! Your videos were the reason I started modding myself. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪🇳🇱 Keep it up ❤️🙏
Dang, this is one of my favorite weapons too, you did a great job as always. Hopefully Blizzard takes a page out of your book and reintroduces some with even half of your passion.
Id love to see the 2 handed greatsword from Arena Season 3 back in Tbc! 🙌🏼🤩 that was always one of my favorite weapons of all time! (It’s kinda similar to Zin‘Rokh I know but nevertheless it’s still absolutely badass!
they should hire this guy so he can remake all of world of warcraft atleast we see better graphics if they dont want to create the game with a modern engine
You are getting really good! I know your video speed is excellerated but you are moving much quicker and with intent, not hestitation. Keep growing! Your content is great. (Glad you got that sponsor :-) )
Congrats on getting sponsored! You deserve it for all the hard work you've been devoting to the game we care about.
Glad that Asmon threw him a sponsorship deal.
Awesome that it was Starforge too.
@@MidWitPride 5head move. Sponsor him, then watch it on stream & get another free AD.

High Warlord Daggers next pls
Your texturing and colouring have improved MASSIVELY. It's amazing to watch you learn and grow with your art. I look forward to every video you make.

Yep, like in steam
it would be so nice. Like a permanent spot in a trading post for a voted item remade by a creator (or just blizzard).
You sir, have good taste in weapons.
One of the most baller axes to ever exist
Every time my melee can't find a good transmog weapon... BAM! Dragon axe on my butt. Easy choice!
Yooooo, congrats on the sponsorship, Tom!

Congrats on the sponsor, couldn't have happened to a cooler guy, well deserved.
He’s an alt-right sympathizer

Very nice job done to this epic classic weapon. I don't understand why Blizzard can't make items with the old style but with better quality like you do.
Draconic Avenger was always a cool as hell axe but you just escalated it beyond cool 10/10
Looking amazing as always, now I really want to see things like Staff of the Shadow Flame as a remake
My favorite part of your work is when you color the weapon, since I get to thinking about the final result.
Love the newest video! Fantastic redesign as always. Hope you have an awesome end to your year.
Thanks a bunch! I wish you all the best as well :)

Congrats on the Starforge sponsorship ! Totally deserved.
Excellent job Tom. Love your artstyle and how you present the assets. Hope you keep up the good work!
I freaking love this, amazing as always!
You should do the Whirlwind axe, I'd love to see you try something so simple yet so iconic to so many warriors!
love how at 2:47 theres an arrow saying "HAMMER" since a certain youtuber had previously stated its cock and balls :D
It's awesome to see these weapons/armor/mounts get much deserved upgrades. It's terribly frustrating not having access to them in-game; I'll take what I can get though :P

Can’t wait to see how you do the grand marshal armor , with your skills constantly improving I imagine beyond awesome
Omg i had this back in vanilla on my shaman. Was so fun running around wfing people with it.

oh lol, I was there when Asmon first saw Tomkek's videos - so glad he decided to sponsor you!!
Another excellent work, thank you for remaking this wonderful axe.
imo the best looking and the most underrated axe in the game
thank you!

I'm so glad to see you choose this weapon, it's also one of my favorites.
Good taste friend :)
Donkey kong music in the background, certified banger and great video!
this and its sibling axe dark talon cleaver are some of my favorite vanilla axes in the game tbh. huge thorium battleaxe being right behind it
Very motivational watching this while attending Uni. Makes me wanna do more personal projects!
Excellent workflow as well!
Personal projects make greatness :) You can never do enough of them
Short, concise and to the point. Well executed!
This is one of my favorite weapons in the game. The axe has some designs that you missed. The red areas on the neck and on the blade. There's no need to change those, lol. But all and all, excellent work. She's a beaut👌
I love what you did to the red details on the axe's blades, it left a bit up to interpretation an I think you interpreted it very well!
this axe right here, is the axe of the 2h tank warriors from back then, and i love that it was remade
GZ on the starforge sponsor and the weapon looks sick as well.
Fantastic video, super fun to watch!
I have that in a vault and mog it occasionally. Didn't know it was special- just saved it for sentiment of who I was playing with. Apparently a lot of the old raid gear I packratted is not available now.
The warrior wrath tier set was actually remade for the Hellfire Citadel tier in WoD
Man, As always you deliver us what Blizzard doesn't, now I desperately want to see an upgrade to Keen Obsidian's Edge!
Love these modelling videos! This one is awesome!
Its not just the [Draconic Avenger] which i wished had gotten a remodel, its big brother [Drake Talon Cleaver] and smaller siblings [Doom's Edge] and [Crul'shorukh, Edge of Chaos] too.
It was my favourite 2h for horde tmog :) Insane remake man!
I would love it so much to see blizzard redesign / update a lot of things for SoD
Man I have to say you’ve gotten so much better at painting man it’s crazy, keep up the hard work

Reflections on the blade would have been awesome aswell as some bumping on the handle
The commentary makes the videos, keep it up!

I would poop a cue ball to have this remake in game, keep it up man your work is incredible !
It'd be pretty cool if right at the end you showed a side-by-side comparison so we can easily see the improvements made.
and again well done ;)! keep up with the good stuff
Amazing work, as always
Another absolute banger Tomkek, keep up the work man!!
tactical comment to spread your glorious work!
Also don't worry too much about the pace. Quality does not have an expiration date!
That was my favorite weapon. I loved it on my Paladin. I know it wasn’t great for me but I didn’t care. I was happy.
i actually prefer the shape and dimensions of the original. nice shading and 3d elements as usual, but the OG had a much cooler look overall with is broader blade and smaller dragons.

I wonder how much asmon was behind that deal, you deserve it brother! You've been blowing his mind every video he reacts to
Hope we see your work in game some day, if it's talent or just hard work, either way,it's gorgeous
allways love your work
This is my favourite weapon :O Thank youuu!!!!!

I'd love to do WoW modding but getting banned would be brutal.
@@ASpaceOstrich For me, modding has been a big part of Blizzard since Warcraft 3 and the map editor, and it should be handled more openly

Love using this weapon on my felguard!
YOOOOO congratz on the starforge sponsor :D
Thanks, both for the congrats and for the support :D
Great job dude 👍
A classic item for a classic Grats! On the sponsorship!
Holy.....! I need this asap...
Id love to see the 2 handed greatsword from Arena Season 3 back in Tbc! 🙌🏼🤩 that was always one of my favorite weapons of all time! (It’s kinda similar to Zin‘Rokh I know but nevertheless it’s still absolutely badass!
Cool work
Really nice work , would love to see the skull of ruin, the shield from Naxx.
Absolutely incredible talent! Easy sub
Man o' man, what weapon will Tomkek do next? Always an awesome job here, and grats on the sponsor!
Love see you do warrior s1 pvp armor of TBC.
Awe man, this is my favorite Axe for Transmog.
they should hire this guy so he can remake all of world of warcraft

easily my favorite 2h axe in the game still to this date.
If all weapons and armos looked like that I would happily give my money to the Blizzard again. Great job :O
I loved this weapon design
As someone who uses blender casually, I love these.
Klasse werk weer!
Another outstanding upgrade on the original model!
Next Video is Warglaives of Azzinoth of ShadowMourne
HELL YEAH! if you could do Crul'Shorukh, Edge of Chaos or The unstoppable Force, that'd be quite neat!
Great video. Well done! What about doing something bigger? LIke redo the entrance of Stormwind or Orgrimmar in a fresh new version.
