Thank you for clarifying things about polygon count & texture resolutions. Most of us can't pick up this kind of thing by only watching you work, so the added context went a long way to make me understand how it influences the final result and how it ends up looking in game.
I hope I didn't come off as needlessly defensive, cause that wasn't the tone I was going for. I wanted to make sure that someone who has no background with 3D art can actually wrap their head around it, rather than it just being a "trust me bro" from my side.
I never noticed the little flappy ears on the old model until today! That's part of what I love about these videos, the appreciation I get for the old models. It makes me notice things I never saw before, like those flappy ears on the undead horses, the horn and rearview mirror on the epic mechanostrider, etc.
Honestly, same. I have looked at these models for almost 20 years and when I redo them I really get to appreciate their finer details for the first time. Part of what I love about it :)
Tomkek placing mimiron heads next to eachother: "Look at it! Its terrible!" Me: "Yes. I can clearly tell the difference, its so obvious" also me: staring at numbers below and the heads to spot the difference
It's still really hard to tell, right? Maybe a little blurrier, or less defined on certain parts due to downsizing? The bigger one feels more defined from a first glance as my eyes keep drawing themselves towards the one that *seems* to be more cripsy looking.
Yea sorry for taking so long on this one. I had first the holidays, then freelance work, then my gf had surgery, and now I'm in the middle of a move. Glad it's finally out though :) This one took a ton of work
I really hope Blizz hires/pays you and imports ALL your models to the game!!!!!! These look so rad, literal goosebumps at the reveal and I don't even play forsaken.
Absolutely phenomenal work! Topology is immaculate! Texturing/painting is beautiful! When I worked on textures, I would look up actual skeletal references and musculature. Thats really my only nit pick and suggestion- otherwise this is extremely beautiful!
I have mained the first character I created in 2007 for 17 yrs. I play an Undead Warlock and I approve this remake!! "What are we if not slaves to this torment?" "We are the Forsaken!"
The only channel I always make a comment on a new video. Glad Asmon is supporting the growth of this channel, great seeing your work get the recognition. Very inspiring keep it up!
This is seriously some of your best work. You're not just doing simple uprezzing at this point, these mounts have a really nice warhammer-esque hand painted feel to them.
These are incredible! I have always been a fan of your work and you really knocked it out of the park with these mounts. Blizzard would be lucky to have an artist like you
This might be out of reach due to the amount of work but is there any chance you could redo some of elwynn forests most popular locations, even the spawn area, (then maybe doing a series where you update locations one by one)no one has done it in the proper wow art style. I think this video would be loved by many. Anyways keep up the work love your videos
I think I already commented that, but I want to say again, that while I only do 2D art, it's still very satisfying and interesting to watch you modelling! Absolutely fantastic video as always, keep it up!
The subtitle "As always, not trying to imply that my work is of Blizzard's quality level." had me laughing; your stuff looks absolutely mindblowingly good. WoW's current art direction being all goofy and giddy with minimal grit has been a problem they've stubbornly stuck to since the model revamps. You take the old designs, update the poly count and textures, and do so without making it look goofy and giddy. If anything, it's far more faithful than what Blizzard does with their model updates (cough cough hyenas tauren vultures and many more cough cough). The grit is there in full force while being just colorful enough to not look out of place. The shapes are greatly accentuated by the shading and highlights without looking cartoony or made of plastic. The horse's posterior isn't a feature I ever given thought to until this video, but that's a fine horse butt. I would risk my account to model swap these over the ingame models. While there's almost zero use for a ground mount nowadays because everything is made easier with flying, I would absolutely strut around on my Rivendare's Deathcharger with this insanely cool updated model. You've covered my two favorite mounts (this plus Onyxian Drake), and I'm sad I can never ride them with such great models.
Yo! I really appreciate how you took the time to talk about your skill set compared to what it’s like as a game designer artist. It was a very real segment, and as a fellow artist it meant a lot. I think you’re doing great! And I always appreciate the lengthy commentary.
Funny enough now people label this mounts as pathetic but back in time and now as well i still think theyre the most badass mount you can get as a member of the horde, these are the true undead horses and you did total justice to them ❤
As a person who are in the game industries, i really appreciate this kinda of work. Its looks cool visually and with few tweaks and optimization, it will be amazing game ready asset. This is the good base to work with. Great job!
Damn, they all look so incredible! Amazing work man. Questions for Q&A: When did you start your gaming journey and what got you playing WoW? What made you interested in the 3D modelling side of game art? And how long did you study? Is the dream to work on games with 3D models or would you prefer to move to something like film? Thanks for being an inspiration mate
These mount remaking videos are great. If you have time and consider suggestions could you remake the classic wind riders? Could be cool to see your spin on them.
That just reminds me how it felt when I finally had the gold for the epic warhorse in classic. I bought the purple one and it was sooooo awesome 😍 I rode through all of Tirisfal and Undercity, enjoying the scene and sound beaming. Haww, sweet memories... thanks for that ❤ For the Forsaken!
I love it!! The forsaken mounts are my favorites, seeing them remade is so cool! This makes me want to play WoW hahahaha Blizz should definately hire you
Long time forsaken fan, absoutley adore this. Also, got into warhammer and painting minis since the last time you made a video, to the point I now know what you are saying when you say base coat! Always fun to be able to appreciate the painting section a ltitle more.
I love them. I hope I can manage to rig these to the bones of their wow counterparts. Rigging the onyxian drake to the old drake skeleton has been kind of a nightmare XD
So far my favorite update you've done has been the Judgment set (absolutely amazing) but as a Forsaken main this takes the number one spot! I love the skeletal horses and use them whenever I need a ground mount. Would love to see these upgraded ones in game!
Reusing art from long ago when making new art robs you of being able to showcase your progress. Love the long rants too so keep those. Came for the updated models but stayed for the learning about the unseen challenges of being a 3d artist. Them horses are 🔥 my dude. Great job as always 😎👍
You should delete the entire left, or right, side of the mesh, before UV-Unwrapping and mapping, then add the deleted side back with the mirror modifier. Also have identical objects, like the shields, use the same UV-Space. This way you can have the same detail from a 4k texture on a 2k texture (Roughly). It's a pretty standard practice for games.
@@Tomkektv you can do symmetrical painting regardless of topology and UV-Mapping. I’m referring to utilising the UV-space, by layering identical UV-islands on top of each other, to gain the same detail on a lower resolution image. You can still do this after painting the entire thing. Just create a new UV-map, do what I described in my previous comment, create a new image and bake everything to it. But if you already did this, then it’s all good👍😄
Amazing work as always! Love to watch these as a fellow 3d artist, it makes me all squishy inside when it all comes so beautifully together. And don't mind the confused or mean comments, they are not worthy of your attention or thought.
Beyond amazing work man! As an undead main, I want this in the game like right now! They look so gosh darn good! Keep up the amazing work. I don't know how anyone could hate on your work. I can't wait for you to get to Thunderfury. :)
I will always love watching your videos Tom and look forward to the new channel! Keep doing the good work and hopefully Blizzard takes the hint and commission you for their models, hopefully!
One of the best minor updates I appreciated in recent years was blizz redoing the rabbit models. No longer do small bunnies in the world look like they could stab you to death with their heads and the don't literally fold in half like a piece of paper when they reach around to groom themselves.
Thank you for clarifying things about polygon count & texture resolutions.

@@Tomkektvyou didn’t, it was a nice little insight into how it works.
Dude, I want these to be in-game so bad 😫
I never noticed the little flappy ears on the old model until today! That's part of what I love about these videos, the appreciation I get for the old models. @Tomkektv no need to apologize dude, hope the move goes smoothly 🤘
I really hope Blizz hires/pays you and imports ALL your models to the game!!!!!! These look so rad, literal goosebumps at the reveal and I don't even play forsaken.
Such a shame we still have 2004 mount models ingame after 20 YEARS
Trooo. Imagine being naive enough to continue to hand over $15 / month to this dog ass game

Great job as always! Love to see that not only the art improves, but also the showcasing of them! Keep it up, man!
Thanks! :)
@@Tomkektv Good video as always, my favorite part is when it's almost finished. Are you planning to do the same with Invincible?
So much horse news vaush must be thrilled.
lmao
Q&A: How is this possible to be so handsome and funny and talented in 3D art at the same time?

Looks amazing, but i prefer the smaller chest plate moving instead of the big connected one
What i would like to see is Raid Boss model updates. Like the Four Horse from Naxxramas.

even with the less crisp textures as you said... they still look amazing and i hope they one day become the remodels for wow
Holy shit, on my first time playing wow back in 2008, the forsaken warhorses were the most cool mounts for me.
huge work! great job, this mount looks like an edgy undead would enjoy to ride
Another certified banger. love the how the bones look
Amazing work! I would love to see Blizz revamp the forsaken horses but for some reason only living creatures get love.
As someone who spends a lot of time around horses, I'm very impressed with this!! Great job :D
Always love to see you do these things :D
You are one of the few people that actively make me consider trying to do 3D stuff again
The Purple One was my first Epic Mount 2005 in Classic WoW. It has a Special place in my Heart
Always love your stuff! Now, important question for the Q&A: Are you on team friet or team patat?
Not even gonna wait with this one. Patat.
Hands down favorite WoW content on UA-cam. Thank you! These never fail to capture to my attention.
I need these horses as my mounts.... the forsaken horses have always been my favorite ground mounts

Lovely models as Always. I can imagine Asmon will appreciate this one just as well as he has the others.
the purple one was my favorite mount back in the day, thank you for this
This was amazing! I love those horses so much but they are so...painful to look at now. They deserve better. Thank you!
another fantastic job tomkek.
at this rate you'll have all the horde mounts updated.

That's how it looked in my head when I first got my mount, well actually a bit worse because this is just on another level
great job , keep it up and grow man , we're looking forward to see your next projects
Nice vid! The Red Skeletal Warhorse is my favourite WoW mount ever
well done, i would love to see classic wow with all new textures and modells
This is my absolute favorite mount in the game, its so nostalgic. Beautiful remake!!
I'd love to see you do some STLs of these .. for folks who would like to print them out! :)
I would have added a small fiery ghostly glow to their eyes that rises a bit like smoke.
That just reminds me how it felt when I finally had the gold for the epic warhorse in classic. I bought the purple one and it was sooooo awesome 😍 I rode through all of Tirisfal and Undercity, enjoying the scene and sound beaming. Haww, sweet memories... thanks for that ❤

Another banger! but as always a double edged sword, knowing we'll never have these in game but being able to stare at your work is a privilege
there is something interesting about asmon sponsoring this guy and then watching his own ad on his stream
God I'm so glad starforge and asmon sponsored you bud. Your stuff is absolutely amazing!

Quite possibly the best mount in all of classic wow keep up the amazing work man

Your painting is very similar to miniature painting. Impressive stuff
World of Warcraft’s youtube channel posted a question asking “what is your favorite armor set?” And my response?
“Tomkek’s updated Judgement set.” 😎

The undead skeletal warhorses are by far my favourite mounts in WoW
Looks so good! Thank you for making such inspiring content and sharing your art!

god they always look so good
Amazing video as always! Would absolutely love to see a shadowmourne one!
Would it really be so much to hire people like you to just go back and remaster these old items itd be a huge w with the community
Absolutely beautiful. I cannot say I see where you have improved, as I do not have the eye for that sort of thing. Still, I love what I watched here.
I will always love watching your videos Tom and look forward to the new channel!
Keep doing the good work and hopefully Blizzard takes the hint and commission you for their models, hopefully!
