Not that the content is boring, mind you, but your voice is very relaxing, the duration is nice and long, and the way you talk about things helps me construct a picture in my head even if my eyes are closed. Monster Hunter Rise is my first proper run, and I'm so in love with it that I wanted to know everything I could about the series. That led me here, so thanks for your work.
Played world with others and didn't understand one bit of how anything works and Rise was my very first MH game that I truly understood everything and now it's been so damn fun playing.
Looked this up just by chance after playing a little MHW. Wondered what the old ones were like. Was not expecting this level of quality, or to find it was made by the coolest looking guy in a sweater to've lived.
I've been unfathomably in love with Monster Hunter for so many years now. It wasn't until Freedom Unite that I finally got friends to buy PSPs and play with me. The thousands of hours sunk into Ad-Hoc party on PS3 are some of my fondest gaming memories ever. Of the friends I played with I still have one, and he and I still find time to play at least a few hours a month. We ran through Iceborne and will start on Rise. I'm really glad the series is so much more popular now, it looks like it won't be going anywhere and future iterations are sure to come. Love the channel, man! All this content is awesome! I'm about to start Rise tonight, looking forward to many more years of this amazing series.
I was about to tear up skimming through this post. It's beautiful. Some games destroy friendships. Others, like monster hunter, preserve them. One of my bros hunts with me. And we've been friends since highschool.
@@ONOINFLAKES Holy crap! 😮 What happened, if you don't mind me asking? Also, I guess I take it back. Games can build but also destroy. I met a person who had that issue, and even I have my own tale.
@@Six3rdy maybe someday. When I miss him. As it triggers memories good and bad that I can turn into a true story. I actually made one already for my homework but I lost it.
Petting Poogie is kind of a ritual for me getting ready for a hunt. I made a short guide one time for pre-hunt checks that included the final and most important task a Hunter must do: Don't forget to pet the Poog! Good luck head pats :)
I can't express enough how badly I wish I could have played this series from the start, or from the very popular PSP games. I'm sure my younger self might have not understood this game as much as when I finally did start playing. But I'm glad I did find this game and start playing it as seriously as I have because it's become my second favorite series of all time and I really am hoping that it stays popular well after Monster Hunter: World :3
As someone who started with it at a young age (from the psp and I’m only 21 now) let me tell you, it was rough, I could hardly kill the early game bird wyverns lmao but it is an amazing series
yeah this guy's right. just pick one of the newer ones and appreciate the fact you will never a plesioth hip check. plus most of the monsters from the early days make a return to all later titles.
the story behind me starting monster hunter feels like a major lesson to me, my father bought me monster hunter world as a gift. I never heard of the games and didn’t even know if I’d like game, but because he went out of his way to buy it for me I gave it a try. Some years later my father is sadly no longer with me and I have over a thousand hours between mhw,mhr and mhgu. Don’t be so quick to judge things, you never know if you could really like it.
I found out about Monster Hunter through a mod for the game Ark: Survival Evolved which added many monsters from the series to the game. This was before World released and that became my first Monster Hunter game. Since then I've gone back and played through the games I missed out on! Honestly I'm surprised I never knew about the series beforehand! It's right up my alley and I absolutely adore the series now that I've found it!
Bro that’s crazy, that’s literally identical to what I did. Found out about it through an Ark mod, played world, and went back and played the older games. Rn I’m having tons of fun with 3U since I got it’s online to work through emulation.
I am really impressed with how monster hunter 1 immediately nailed the animations and feel of monster hunter that hardly went unchanged since then, hell the game graphically looks like some of the best on Ps2 as well, that jungle environment looks awesome. Can’t help but to feel cheated at the same time though…they must have constantly reused the same stuff for decades.
MH1 up through FU was basically an expanded version of the same game each time. 3rd generation is where they started trying something different. 3U is still one of my all-time favorite games. I love 2nd gen, but 3rd gen on is where the series truly starts to shine in my eyes.
Monster Hunter has always been one of my favourite series after I discovered 3 Ultimate years ago, and I'm glad it's getting the popularity and recognition it deserves in recent years.
It's amazing how a seemingly simple game about killing monsters has been able to evolve and receive so many new ideas and content over the years it has existed. It never feels like a rehash or a lazily developed game, but a NEW MH game that anyone can enjoy, whether it be veterans or newbies. It's a series that has aged extremely well.
My first game was Tri and I probably had the most fun and nostalgia with that one, I remember being stuck on No Guts, No Glory fort so long because I was scared shitless of Lagiacrus, it was playing the game online that got me passed it, something about playing with other people made the game a bit more accessible in the beginning, and there's just so many memories of that time, Loc Lac is my favourite hub next to Pokki and Moga. Some time after I got Freedom Unite and played the hell out of it, but never got to play online so it was a solo run, but still fun. Only got 3U on ds so made little progress til years later when my brother got it and we had a big playthrough of it. 4U was weird, the fastest I ever got through a MH game online and offline and the least hesitant I was with new monsters, in some ways I'm fond of it, but it was the start of me falling out of the series. Still got Gen and GenU though because my brother insisted we play them together, did end up enjoying GenU in the end, it was a nice nostalgia trip. World is fun, but I haven't got into as much since I don't actually own it, I love the updates to the classic game play, but it really feels like what I was expecting 4 to be. Looking forward to Rise, was put off at first, but after playing the demo a few times I'm actually really excited, it helps that there so much praise for gen 3 by the looks of it, feels like it's all coming full circle to me xD
When fight Zorah for the first time and the theme starts playing, I started tearing up, my nostalgia just flooded and overloaded my brain. This series will always have a very special place in my heart and no other games has come close to make me feel like this. Waiting for Rise to drop on PC so I can smack the new roster with my trusty Greatsword. Happy Hunting Hunters!
As someone who came from monster hunter world and is now addicted to rise. I appreciate this video sooooo much. I want to give the series the respect it deserves and this helps so much. Good shit 🔥❤🔥
Good stuff man. Been playing and a hardcore fan of this series with my buddies since ps2. It's been a huge part of our lives from elementary school (since we were about 8 or 9ish) to now with the upcoming release of rise with us all being 25+ now. It's kept us all together since the beginning up until now. Seeing some gameplay of the old games like freedom unite and 4u really brings back great memories
i have adored keeping up with this game since i was a kid, i've been a MH kid all my life from the first one all the way to rise, and i've never had so much joy keeping up with anything else other than this series. amazing series, my all time favorite, and glad to be a hunter along with everyone else
This man, thank you so much for sharing this. From seeing the series as something nobody else knew about, to the greatest selling series of all of Capcom’s games. It’s simply amazing, and I’m almost proud in a way to see what the series has a become; a cultural phenomenon all over the world. I cannot wait for MH6 and will be exploring all the classics again while I wait
I’m so thankful that COVID is what actually got me into MH. I bought world and played 30 hours and still wasn’t sure about it. Set it down for a year and played it religiously when quarantine started
I had tried getting into monster hunter world twice, just didn't click with me. Then a UA-camr I watch made a video on rise/ world. I was like hmm, I kinda wanna play this again. The past week has just been me pretty much doing nothing but devoting 12 hours to hunting. I literally hear the scoutflies when I'm not playing now rofl. I'm very glad that you have a video like this for the vast swathe of people like me that got into the series so late. MH was always one of those games I knew about but never played kinda like dragons quest, it's one of those hallmarks of japanese culture at this point.
Found the perfect video to lead me through my nostalgic journey through the MH series. I grew up in Canada but spent my teenage years in Japan; everyone around me was completely hooked on Portable 3rd. That’s where I got onboard as well, I got Freedom Unite on the Online Store a few years previously but didn’t know how to gather resources so I quit for a while, and the prompts above your head in 3rd definitely helped me out. Love this series, and love this video! Kudos to a fellow MH fan. Thanks for explaining the goodness of these games to the masses. Looking forward to future uploads!!!
Thank you for this. I joined the series in World, so have no knowledge of what came before hand. Through the MH community, I've learnt a few things and was directed to your channel through Reddit forums. I bought a Switch specifically to play MH: Rise and recently picked up a used copy of GenU, so can't wait to experience some of the other monsters in this series.
I just watched it in its entirety in one go. Very accurate description of the whole MH franchise. As a player who started in generation 1 I have to say it is the most consistent series of games I ever witnessed. It has 3 core things that it kept doing across all those years IMO: - Hunting big bad boys with big weaponry - Experimentation - Never truly underdeliver It is my absolute favorite franchise and my favorite gaming community in all of gaming. I hope you are having a blast with your upcoming games and videos man.
Not only have I seen each of these video's separately, bit this is my third viewing of this super cut. Gotta love your tone, very calming but still enticing me for repeat views.
I still have one of those and it still works believe it or not, i boot it up sometimes and teach my little sisters to play crash bandicoot on it hahaha
I started with Tri and then got a PSP single-handedly to play FU after I saw how much more content it had, I couldn't miss out on all of that. FU made me into a man.
Omg what a treat I can never get tired of watching those. Thanks for your work guys! Its amazing to see older gens getting love and being covered as well.
It's cool to finally have all of your videos together. Was a pain chasing down each one. I'll save this to watch again whenever I want😁. Such awesome content!
@@zeus28frenzy if it make you that mad, just slot a brace jewel in. Honestly I don't see the problem here. What does the LS random supposed to do after cutting the tail? Just sit and watch? This video reminded me of when I was a kid and found my first monster hunter game on the wii u and I was sooooo confused on what was happening so I just gave up and played Mario kart instead but now I’m revisiting it so thanks for the vid
Hi RAD! I too became a Monster Hunter journey with Monster Hunter Tri, back in 2010. Owning every entry that released in the west (Tri, MH3U, MH4U, MHG, MHU, World (with Iceborne) and now our little "baby" Rise, I fully agree with you, being able to see the evolution in each release is amazing. It's like the game has been in development since the very first installment, and all this cumulative knowledge is applied in the new entry, which makes every new game better than the ones that came before, by building on what the developers learns from each game. Thanks for the awesome video!
Even though you had been showing the boot up intro for each console the games were on, I still thought my PS4 was bugging out when you got to the World section. Great video!
First MH Game I ever played was Tri for the Wii. My sister had already played it religiously, and I was quite interested from watching her play it every night. I got a 3DS and bought MH3U, and have probably close to 2k hours in the game across my 2 game copies. MH4U has even more play time, and then I found out about Monster Hunter Online. It was sad to see it go, along with Frontier Z. However, I've recently wanted to go back and play the older games, and these videos have really solidified that feeling. I've loved the series you've made, and I look forward to future content.
I don’t know why but MH4 ultimate had a decent story and progression in it and was the only MH game that I payed attention to in the story. I don’t really know what it was, I think that the Gore Magala was just really compelling. That game felt like the peak of their creativity in some way
Freedom Unite was my first contact with the game. What helped was probably that it was a digital download for the game so I couldn’t trade it in. I remember how scary Tigrex used to be and he seemed to be the ultimate challenge I could overcome. That memory is very special to me because nowadays I fight Tigrex and he is my favorite one to fight, but he’s nowhere near the hardest. Just vigorous and fast.
when i got my first PSP, i was around 10. My parents got it for a chrismas. A friend of mine already had it and i wanted it for a verry long time. When i got it it was like a dream. One day we were in travel, in a foreign country, we entered a little shop, and my parents got me Monster Hunter freedom. Like you i never heard about the game. Boy i spend so much time on this. And one day i eventually lost the console during a car travel, with the game in it. I was SO sad, and furious against myself, because there was no way i got the chance to get an other console and game that i love that much. At my birthday, my parents made me the surprise. They bought me a psp with the new monster hunter freedom unite. I spend a lot of lovely gaming time with this. Thats pretty much how i fell in love for a game for the first time. I dont want to know how much work hours my parent had to do to buy all this, but they just understood my passion for it and made the best present i ever had twice. Thats a golden memory that i will remember if i have the luck to do my kids presents one day.
Awesome video. Legit just found you and I genuinely love this! I won't dwell on it for too long, I just honestly find it sad that (outside of speedruns) some people have so much palm sweat that "always optimally fighting the monster" is a requirement. Like come on, chout big smoke, there's literally no leaderboards, no everything has to be a competition
Monster Hunter will forever be one of my favorite series. My first one was when I was about 9 or 10 in '05. My dad got the original for PS2 and kept getting WAXED. Ended up beating his Rathalos for him and that's why to this day its my favorite monster.
I've just watched both complete history videos and just wanted to say that these are works of art. you did such a good job explaining everything. Monster Hunter has had an amazing development over all these years and after watching the frontier video I would wish to be able to play it as it seemed so cool. Anyways excellent job on those videos I loved them!!
I started my MH journey in 2005 with MH1 on psp and never stopped playing MH , bought counsels (wii , wii u , 3ds) exclusively just to play MH , man you took me on a wild memory's ride great video thanks ❤
So my very first monster in the game is rise I've always wanted to play monster Hunter I've never had the chance so I went out and got a switch and bought rise and I completely have fallen in love with everything monster Hunter your channel is one of the first channels I actually followed and learned possibly as much as I could about the series in general I even went back and played gu and world I'm in the middle of world and I'm in the beginning of gu I want to play them all at once but it's so hard to juggle but definitely this series has immediately become one of my absolute favorites and your videos have helped it so much, so much appreciation!
Thank you for putting all of this together! It's a fascinating thing to listen to even if...admittedly, I already knew most of it. I just like your takes even if I don't always agree with them lmao Speaking of, damn you did NOT deserve the flak you got for your critique of World/Iceborne. I freely admit, I'm an oldschool hunter, I started with MH1 wayyyyy back in the day. BUT I also think that most of the changes World/IB brought to the table made it better. Something something I felt like I fought the monster more than the camera/controls in general. But you put your points together succinctly and even if I didn't agree, I got where you were coming from and it was interesting to listen to As far as my own stupid hot take goes: clutch claw wasn't that bad imo, but maybe that was just because I rly vindictively enjoyed using it to crash monsters face-first into walls, enough that it overrode the part of me that was mad that hitzones were jumbled up to accommodate tenderizing This got rambly but yes! Thank you for the video, these are a delight to listen to
Man I will never forget when my eldest brother bought monster hunter for the PS2, I was around 5 at the time and the entire game fascinated me, so I picked it up and began playing it through my brothers save files, and after what I can presume hours and probably days, my backwards controller holding ass finally fulfilled capturing some bird monster which later I've come to known as the Yian Kut-Ku, it was the most triumph I felt as a micro human. I fumbled my way through the game until my brother sold or gave away the game, and it became a lingering memory until 2014 or so, when I heard about MH4U on the breeze, it brought back those fuzzy memories and I knew I had to get it. MH has been a franchise that has been on my mind since age 5 and has always been one of my favourite series to date. I'm so glad a video like this was recommended to me, not only is the quality good, but it lets me explore all the entries I missed and reignite my drive to play these games all over again. Thank you so much for bringing something cherished to me such a well done presentation and history of everything about it. I'm excited to see more videos from you on more MH content
As someone who was brand new to MH:World in 2020, I've never truly loved a game series as I love this one. The depth of everything from preparation, to items, weapons and their playstyles... to say nothing of discovering a new monster for the first time and being like "I have to fight that thing?" It is truly an epic experience.
This is a great video! I started with world last year and I’ve clocked over 350 hours now. I’m still loving it and just started Freedom Unite last month. Having a great time with it as well!
This is a fantastic video man, well done! I actually didn’t get started playing MH until Tri came out for the Wii. I broke down and bought one just for that game and played the hell out of it, with the Lagiacrus being my favorite Monster. I just recently went back to playing MH World again while waiting for Rise.
As someone who played every single game available in America water combat is still my favorite thing in any game though the mixed bowgun stuff is up there too
Great job sir, great job 👏🏼 I actually live through the history of monster hunter series since 2004. Been telling people how great this game was and hands down the best video game ever made by Capcom So much emotion came back to me thinking back when I finally made Dos playable in the US, I put in a lot of lot of effort to make it work in the US. Had to buy a Japanese PS2 just for this game, found a way to join a Japanese phone company internet service and paid monthly fee. Brought the special edition that came with a instant noodle timer with a grill as a timer, a figure of Kashala Dora, mouse pad and a handkerchief and then Tri, 4th, World and now Rise . I would like to say thank you for making this great history of MH. Happy hunting!
This video is amazing, I "got into" Monster Hunter with Tri Ultimate on the 3DS, being in America I didn't know much about it. Turned out lots of my friends played it already but then I hit some hard times and had no games at all. Times are getting better though and I have a switch and MH: Rise and MH: World on the PS4 (base game only) This video is awesome to be able to have on today and most likely again tomorrow since I know I won't remember it all!
My intro to the MH series was tri on the wii and I have been in love with it ever since. I often think back to me and my brother being in highschool, coming back home from working out for football, and just playing MH3 for hours, switching off every few hunts. It is one of my favorite series and I’m so happy UA-cam is pushing MH content to me now cuz I’m gonna get back into MHW and actually put effort into learning how to properly gear up and itemize for each fight
same. My older brother bought a 3DS and 3 games: super smash bros, Mario party, and you guessed it MH4U. I played all the games enjoyed them, but the one that hooked me the most and made me happy was MH4U. I slayed monsters for hours on end, but with weak armour and weapons because I was around 6-9 I don't remember, but I didn't understand it very well I still enjoyed it tho. A few years later, Here I am 13 years old, addicted to monster hunter rise, and grinding tf out of it.
I was playing Monster Hunter stories and Monster Hunter rise the entire time I watch this 3-hour video. I've been playing monster hunter games for at least 15 years now and it's really cool to see it all laid out in front of me, I was just a dumb high school kid when I first heard about Monster Hunter and now as an adult I still am in love and enthralled by the series. Thanks for the awesome video.
World was my introduction to Monster Hunter, and I think its gonna always hold a special place in my heart for getting me into this franchise. I've never been the biggest ARPG player, and never did I think I'd find one that I'd so willingly sink hundreds of hours into, yet here I am.
Recently turned 33 and I am upset that I didnt get on this sooner. I have tried to play the series since Freedom Unite 3 but at that time I was working and attending college. Sadly I had no time or patience to learn how to play the series. Tried getting into the series again with MH3U on Wii U, MH4U on 3DS, and then MHW on PS4...yet still I couldnt get deep enough(Thats what she said)' into those games to really appreciate. I bought MHR since last October and just recently(about a month ago) I started playing. Got hooked instantly!!! I am an new man, born again as a Monster Hunter. Hoping to make friends on MHR to really enjoy the game. A huge thank you for making this vid man, you are the GOAT for taking your time and enegry in educating us. Next game is going to be MHGU, wish me luck!

I really want them to either make a (good) movie or a game about the war with elder dragons. It must have been terrifying
Yes. Inject this straight into my veins, even though i’ve seen them all 3 or more times
its insane how many mechanics stayed since the first game. It always was such a thought out and unique concept....
the story behind me starting monster hunter feels like a major lesson to me, my father bought me monster hunter world as a gift.
I've never been welcomed back so many times in one video.
Huh same here, who'da thunk it
Bro that’s crazy, that’s literally identical to what I did.
Can’t help but to feel cheated at the same time though…they must have constantly reused the same stuff for decades.
if it works why change it
MH1 up through FU was basically an expanded version of the same game each time. 3rd generation is where they started trying something different. 3U is still one of my all-time favorite games. I love 2nd gen, but 3rd gen on is where the series truly starts to shine in my eyes.
It was and still is very unique, always keeping it's charm
Monster Hunter has always been one of my favourite series after I discovered 3 Ultimate years ago, and I'm glad it's getting the popularity and recognition it deserves in recent years.
i, as a player who started with rise, watched this entire video. i feel like i’ve learned everything and nothing at the same time.
Brb, replacing my life support with MH history.

Poogie: IM BACK BITCHES
I mean, I ain't complaining. I've already watched the series a couple times. This just gives me an excuse to watch it again.

"Hoping it's fatalis" how right you were
Thanks for this. It has been interesting seeing how the games have evolved over the course of the series's lifetime.

How is the ride?
I just watched it in its entirety in one go.
Very accurate description of the whole MH franchise.
As a player who started in generation 1 I have to say it is the most consistent series of games I ever witnessed.
It has 3 core things that it kept doing across all those years IMO:
- Hunting big bad boys with big weaponry
- Experimentation
- Never truly underdeliver
It is my absolute favorite franchise and my favorite gaming community in all of gaming.
I hope you are having a blast with your upcoming games and videos man.

I love to just game or study while your history vids are playing in the background, your voice is so relaxing to hear. Thx, good work!
Glad to hear!
Even though you had been showing the boot up intro for each console the games were on, I still thought my PS4 was bugging out when you got to the World section.
Great video!
Been playing since the beginning. Nice to have some nostalgia and see how far the series has come.

That game felt like the peak of their creativity in some way
Learning about everything that Iceborne had going on is kinda overwhelming.
Watched/Listened to this from beginning to end while playing Monster Hunter World, thank-you for all that effort.

I just simply love these type of videos, very long talking about the history of a certain game etc. Thanks mate!
when i got my first PSP, i was around 10.

Monster Hunter will forever be one of my favorite series. My first one was when I was about 9 or 10 in '05. My dad got the original for PS2 and kept getting WAXED. Ended up beating his Rathalos for him and that's why to this day its my favorite monster.

Thank you for putting all of this together! It's a fascinating thing to listen to even if...admittedly, I already knew most of it. I just like your takes even if I don't always agree with them lmao
Speaking of, damn you did NOT deserve the flak you got for your critique of World/Iceborne. I freely admit, I'm an oldschool hunter, I started with MH1 wayyyyy back in the day. BUT I also think that most of the changes World/IB brought to the table made it better. Something something I felt like I fought the monster more than the camera/controls in general. But you put your points together succinctly and even if I didn't agree, I got where you were coming from and it was interesting to listen to
As far as my own stupid hot take goes: clutch claw wasn't that bad imo, but maybe that was just because I rly vindictively enjoyed using it to crash monsters face-first into walls, enough that it overrode the part of me that was mad that hitzones were jumbled up to accommodate tenderizing
This got rambly but yes!
Monster hunter is one of the very few game series that I will buy a console for every time.
PSP, Wii, Wii U, Switch, PS4. All bought for MH. If it comes out on PS5, I’ll buy one of those too.
As someone who was brand new to MH:World in 2020, I've never truly loved a game series as I love this one. The depth of everything from preparation, to items, weapons and their playstyles... to say nothing of discovering a new monster for the first time and being like "I have to fight that thing?" It is truly an epic experience.

Times are getting better though and I have a switch and MH: Rise and MH: World on the PS4 (base game only)

I slayed monsters for hours on end, but with weak armour and weapons because I was around 6-9 I don't remember, but I didn't understand it very well I still enjoyed it tho. A few years later, Here I am 13 years old, addicted to monster hunter rise, and grinding tf out of it.
