    Thank you Bishop Barron! I love art and pictures too. I love the spirituality aspect of The Word on Fire Bible.. At age 13 I was looking for Biblical Study from The Church. Unfortunately, in 1977 there was no formal Bible Study at Catholic parishes. I had to go to a Christian Church to get the Biblical classes. The Christian Church did not have Holy Communion and the absence was felt. The Holy Spirit and Sacraments brought me back.

    I believe that the Bible is the Word of God and if we keep on reading it we get revelation and special blessings. But due to the translation from hebrew to other languages isnt there a possibility that the contents will get a bit twisted and alter the true meaning that has to be conveyed. Then in this case the true impact one gets from reading the new version will not be what one ought to receive from reading the Word of God

    There is a very good reason previous interpretations have stuck with looking at the historical context of the Scriptures and NOT tried to frame them in an interpretive light for the current day. Our current circumstances our temporary. They change. Even if you do manage to get the framework right for how the Bible should be taken as directing us as a culture spiritually in what we're going through right now, which is highly doubtful and unverifiable in any case, in the span of a single generation, even just a few years, our society could be facing wildly different issues and your framework may hinder their understanding of Scripture.
    Revelation 22:18 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:"

    • @clattereffect

      WoF Bible is not replacing anything in the scriptures. Its meant to draw people back to the Bible or faith, allowing people to relate more to the stories in a modern way and for today's world or for our times. If someone chooses to read scripture in its original text, e.g. Hebrew and Greek or even the medieval translation in Latin, then so be it. They never said its replacing all other Bible translations before Vatican II, which you trads are so stuck on.
      BTW, your Revelation passage is not even in its original Koine Greek? a language of a very different society and time, compared to that of even Medieval Europe. Good luck.

      What Bishop Barron meant was that we shouldn't read the Bible as a historical book: dry facts...bereft of the Spirit. If you have the Holy Spirit, the Word of God will light up and be alive even if you don't have a commentary. As my bishop said, "without the Holy Spirit nothing is happening."

    How shameful of them, isn't it!
    Normally when someone launches a project that will generate revenue, he invests and risks his own $, hoping to make it increase.
    But these individuals do not have such qualms. Instead, they want to invest not their $ but YOUR $, and then, when the project is ready, charge YOU again to buy it!
    You put your $ to start production, you put your $ again to buy the finished product, ... and THEY collect the profits!
    Ha, ha. Sure bet ... but how morally sound is that!

    Despite it's many virtues...no one ( I think) has actually mentioned the Biblical text. Who did the actual translating from Hebrew & Greek into English? Has a fresh translation been made or do we simply have a more accessible version of the Jerusalem Bible? Further, as an Evangelical Prot, I began to feel uneasy at the inclusion of quite so many comments from past figures. Venerable &worthy no doubt. But it could end up as a Catholic version of the Talmud! (We Prots fell into that trap with "The Schofield Bible"!)

    • @De-Nigma
      @De-Nigma 3 роки тому +1

      According to the store page it's the NRSV text, which I think is generally a fairly standard one for scholars to use. I think the selling point is having all the commentaries and Bible in one book (and it being a nice book) rather than being groundbreakingly new.

    • @michaeljefferies2444
      @michaeljefferies2444 3 роки тому +2

      I would read the Word on Fire bible before thinking this is a Catholic version of the Talmud. The interpretations are largely spiritual rather than apologetic. There are some passages with apologetic commentary, but I think it has more to do with highlighting what Church Fathers had to say on the passage. The fact that they often held a Catholic view on some of these key passages is something that might give us pause. I don't think they would claim that this is the "only" way to read the text with any of the interpretations, just that is a way to look at it to get a specific allegorical, anagogical or moral meaning. Lastly, the Bible is also replete with Bishop Barron's own commentary and sermons which bring in the historical perspective and are often sourced from top biblical scholars such as N.T. Wright.

    • @lilwaynesworld0
      @lilwaynesworld0 3 роки тому +3

      The Scofield Bible is a problem because it’s one guys personal interpretation of prophecy using the dispensations according to John Nelson Darby. The church fathers are obviously not one interpretation but the best and most orthodox Christian thinkers with a direct line to the apostolic tradition of church Christ founded. Unlike the Talmud where disputes where never resolved the Catholic Church though her magisterium and church councils where able to tell us which opinions the fathers got right and when they occasionally erred add to that modern opinions from contemporary scholars and you likely will get a very orthodox Bible both ancient and modern at the same time not slanted to much to one person unlike many Protestant bibles which often are a commentary by one popular pastor or theologian

Pope Leo XIII in 1893 published an encyclical encouraging reading the bible. Pope Pius XII in 1943 did the same as did Pope Paul VI and John Paul II. The Vulgate was the bible of the church for 1500yrs, the Douay-Rheims from the 15th to the 19th centuries, the NAB and Jerusalem Bible in the 1970s and an explosion of bibles since then. So when were we told not to read the bible?
