  • Singer Sinéad O’Connor explains why she chose to be ordained a Latin Tridentine priest Mother Bernadette Marie.
Sinéad O’Connor was ordained a Latin Tridentine priest, Mother Bernadette Marie, in a ceremony performed in a Lourdes hotel suite by the controversial bishop, Michael Cox.
She did not take the decision lightly,
A person shouldn’t become a priest unless they take it dreadfully seriously.
The Roman Catholic Church replaced the Latin Tridentine in the 1960s, however Bishop Cox continues to say the Latin mass.
Sinéad O’Connor believes her ordination is valid and lawful. She can perform the sacraments and has said mass a number of time in both Latin and English. She rejects the statement that her ordination is unlawful under canon law.
Nothing you can do Gay Byrne will invalidate my priesthood.
Sinéad O’Connor believes it is only a matter a matter of time before women are accepted as priests. A female member of the audience is pleased to see this issue highlighted, but is worried that Bishop Cox and the Tridentine Church are patriarchal and conservative.
    Sinéad O’Connor sees things differently,
This is the old traditionalist holding hands with the funky new people and the funky new people holding hands with the old traditionalist because you cannot have one without the other.
She will continue to perform as Sinéad O’Connor but will wear her priestly garments. He intention is to auction old clothes to provide funds for a charity she plans to establish. Through this charity she will send Travellers on holiday to Lourdes.
What I call my holy trinity is I am a mother, I am a singer and I am a priest, these things are equally sacred to me.
This episode of ‘The Late Late Show’ was broadcast on 30 April 1999. The presenter is Gay Bryne.

Growing up, i was always told and made to believe she was a crazy person. Amazing how the media spin a narrative isnt it..
Nothing about this is crazy, she was way of her time and Ireland is finally catching up to her way of thinking. Unfortunately she has now passed away, hopefully to a place of peace with nobody judging her. Sleep well, Sinéad. You were a beautiful Soul, an amazing singer, and a fearless and brave artist.
    Rest in peace.

Everyone gets peace when we leave our bodies. No one knows what happens, but we're not here as we were for sure. In that she's not toiling with what she was going through anymore. It's obvious to me anyway she finally ended it herself. One last measure of control.

Because her first single "Nothing Compares", people built this perception of her as a vulnarable, delicate and fragile person. The fact that she has a shaven head with an angelic face that looks incredibly innocent it added to it. But she was clearly a very strong character with a good head on her shoulder that refused to conform to conventional music culture. RIP

I don't know much about Catholicism, but to my ears and eyes, her spirit seems sincere and she seems to be coming from a place of devotion rather than dogma. I can't tell if it was a stunt or not, but I am amused by how riled up the interviewer becomes while insisting that she's 'not lawful,' and she just held her ground and said those laws are irrelevant and she knows the authorities in Rome will come around. The Catholic church is thousands of years old and very good at saying no and smacking people down, but I admire that she stands her ground here and doesn't ' go low,' but rather suggests that others will rise to her level eventually. I know she is behaviorally erratic, but she's certainly not insane.

Sinead wasn't easy. She laid out how things would be, and how she wanted to be treated. Almost a feeling of being unreasonable. I wonder how much she pushed away in an effort I think in her heart to be loved. I think her early life really took a toll, but look at what the world got as a result. An outstanding talent. She took it all the way to her end. The world got a fail. RIP. Sinead.

@@anthonydowling3356 Every interview I have heard of Sinéad O'Connor was authentic, extremely articulate and clearly expressing her perspective at the time. Your comment, however! 🙃 By 'clot shot', I am assuming you are referring to the Covid Vaccination. If Sinéad was in favour of it, she had obviously read and understood more of the science than you, Which doesn't surprise me, because she was a reader of source material.
Everything has side effects. The blood clots formed due to a reaction to the preservative in the vaccination were only a very tiny percentage of risk. All medications that you can buy at a pharmacist have much higher risk of side effects, as does sugar, caffeine, fried foods etc.
This is how propaganda gets people: something true is taken out of context, magnified or shrunk, had bits added to it, or taken away. Whatever is most sensational, usually fear-mongering. Fear and outrage emotionally hook people in more than anything. There was big business in fear-mongering about the vaccine. These social media personalities made millions. Unfortunately, at the expense of millions of people's lives, directly and indirectly. The U.S. states with the lowest vaccine rate, has had significantly higher mortality rates than States with higher rates of vaccinations. Those stats are available for you to check out, if you choose. I don't know where Long Covid is at in terms of population. But the U.S.A suffered more from the corona virus than other first world countries, due to the number of people convinced by the fear-mongering. 😣
Passing judgement on things you don't know about (vaccines, Sinéad O'Connor) probably isn't the most intelligent thing you have ever done. At least, I like to think your brain is a bit more logical and fluent, like Sinéad's brain was, than your last comment suggests! 😊

Just putting it here for people in the comments. You can't call someone "mentally ill" because they're speaking the truth. Often they speak the truth and that includes world issues, religion and their mental health issues. You're just using that piece of information to silence whatever she or anyone has got to say. It just looks like you don't want to hear anything she says with your fingers stuck to your ears and screaming "you're insane" which honestly looks like you are quite the one you're claiming her to be.

Sinead is a very spiritual person and said she follows all religions but she is true that each Christian is born into the priesthood. Tradition will not allow but the law that matters is Gods law. I think she turned to
Islam because the Koran says the Scriptures have been distorted. I think she was led astray but her baptism and the Holy Spirit will help her return to the Lord.

It's undeniable even by Christian scholars that the Bible had been distorted many times over, nevermind that the authors are unknown and there's no trace of the original text.... You're the ones led astray into idolatry and associating partners with God which is the biggest sin and a violation of the first commandment. How will you face God with such a horrid stance I don't know. You must not really believe in Him. I encourage you to take it more seriously and to fear God lest you end up in hell.

Sinead was an earnest student of theology. She studied many religions. She was not a young kid that could be easily led astray when she became a Muslim. As we know, she became a Muslim not when she was 15, but in her 50s, after decades of thinking and studying different religions.

😅 Sinéad is clearly articulate, fluent, logical and handled that interviewer extremely well without escalating. She always talked quickly. You two have obviously just read symptoms from a book and never knowingly experienced anyone having a manic episode. You just didn't like her ideas or beliefs so are pathologising her. I am not a fan of her beliefs either, but I know from years of experience, that Sinéad was not manic during this interview. Why don't you be honest, and candid, like her, and just say you are uncomfortable with what she said? There's no shame in that.
