“1990 was...heavy metal typing. Kyuss was like getting the type writer and stepping on it with your boot. In slow motion.” Leave it to Chris Goss to perfectly sum up one of the greatest bands ever.

one of the most awesome guitar sounds ever

True, but it's a bit repetitive after listening to 5 or 6 songs. I like the Kyuss groove, but Qotsa's guitar tone from the first three albums is what I like the most (more middle and less bass).

that especially holds true for Songs for the Deaf. Homme pressured him to take the videos down because they gave away too many secrets, but Making Records with Eric Valentine describes how the mids for all the guitars were cranked to 11. I think he had his tone perfected by the time he recorded the Bronze. But anyway...Kyuss was way ahead of the bands like Korn who made downtuning fashionable

Dave saw Kyuss for the first time at the Offramp in Seattle in 1992.
In 1990 he played his first show with Nirvana at the offramp in 1990

@@dyr234 if Jon and Bruce from sub pop thought 1988 nirvana was "too metal"...all the so called "punk rockers" probably thought kyuss was just a black sabbath rip off, hendrix riff carbon copy. Good thing Dave recognized Brant and Josh's vibe.

@@startervisions so funny they thought kurt was being to metal haha, for me that era of nirvana sounded like noise punk.

@@startervisions that was so hilarious kurt meeting josh. I love them both as guitar players and human beings.

Proud to say I seen kyuss in the early 90s in Indianapolis. It was Babes in Toyland, Kyuss, White Zombie

*They were tuned down so low that when they hit their strings everything would go out of tune*

Great band but god I really wish they had a different singer. He just sounds so cheesy to me.

Cheesy? Not the greatest description of how he sounds. I happen to think it fits perfectly. Can understand why some may not like it, but cheesy it ain’t.
