What do you have now?! First car I ever drove was my dad's 944. Will always love Porsche. The time to buy a dream car finally came around a few months ago and I was looking at mainly GT-Rs, 911 Cabs and Boxsters. Ended up getting a GORGEOUS single owner,
Pretty cool they Porsche sent you on what seemed to be a genuine trip, not just an event to be inundated with information. It's nice seeing you guys talk about the experience aside from the cars, like talking to the natives and enjoying the scenery. And driving around Hawaii in classic Porsches, what could be better?
I'm from the Big Island and it's cool to see you guys learn some of the History of the islands and enjoy what it has to offer! Hope you had some fun driving to Pololu Valley, Old Saddle Road, and Volcanoes National Park.
Thanks a lot for the video Mark. Now my wife wants to go on a Hawaiian Honeymoon like you and Jack. All kidding aside enjoy your time together before you guys start a family.
A trip to Intermechanica (a Singer for middle class fans of older Porsches) during engineering school prepared me for this surprising uplifting video. So great to see Mr Goose open up and share joy. #suicidewatch on hold.
I have a '73 911E as well as a '97 and '15 Turbo S. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them the '73 is a more engaging and more outright fun experience.
Any vintage car or any vehicle without all of the modern day computer controls that make every decision for you is going to be more engaging and more fun. Modern cars are fast but they do seem to be missing that link between the driver and the vehicle. When you drive a 356 you feel everything. There is nothing between your hands and the steering box other than the steering wheel and the shaft so you feel every nuance of the turning movement. With a modern car your hands are on the wheel and there is a computer making decisions about how much turning input the car needs and how firm or soft the turning effort needs to be. That being said driving a 356 will tire you out much faster and make a 100 mile trip feel like a 500 mile trip.
This was an excellent video. Thanks for making it. I loved hearing the human side to the story and hearing from your tour guide who seemed very genuine and empathic.
as I'm watching this video, I realize we went on almost the exact same trip. haha the Kona coffee company. driving through the forests that traverse the island. driving past the observatory. what a great video thanks guys, brings back alot of great memories.
Really appreciate the work guys and especially your honest takeaways from visiting Hawaii and learning some of the history. Mark we gotta get you out there again when you save up enough PTO to enjoy more of it and hopefully the weather doesn't take a dump on you again.

This was an outstanding opportunity, but not maybe in the way you’d think. From recent live streams and other content, I’ve started to detect a problem that I, myself, have grappled with when I took an activity/interest that I loved and tried to monetize it. A free trip to Hawaii to drive the world’s finest convertibles, past and present, in a stunning environment provided a no-better gut-check you’ve become jaded to what you once loved. I’ll leave out my impressions on this and encourage you to take this rare opportunity for some navel-gazing.
I had a 59 356A 1600S coupe back in the day and drove several 356, 914, 912, and 911s. It was the best time to own and drive these cars. My coupe was $3k and that was a lot in 1970. I learned basic mechanics on that car and driving skills.
The whole experience for me was exceptional, through your eyes……. Many thanks for what you do and how well you do it. Many people do what you do but we really appreciate your efforts and what you share, thank you guys…….
I thoroughly enjoy the channel, this was different and actually one of your best videos. I appreciate the multidimensional content, kept it interesting.
The best Porsche is the next one. I spent some time with a 981 Spyder and I thought I couldn’t love a car anymore than that one. Then the 718 Spyder came along . . . Porsche always seems to be pushing forward, iterating and improving. When look back at past models, I have favorites but I am always waiting for the magic of the next iteration.
This is beautiful. I know I'm not alone in that a large part of why I love cars is due to the act of travelling in itself. More power to you, Savagegeese.
This was interesting...as a vintage Beetle owner I was all set for Mark to say the 914 was his least favorite car for just being a "tarted up Beetle" but it turns out it wasn't. I was honestly surprised by that
Best video from you in a long time; great conversation about not just cars. What really stood out was the lack of sarcasm but you still were honest with your opinions and didn’t present in the also too common hype machine style of videos/reviews/etc.
Your talk about the Speedser reminded me so much of the 1965 Alfa Gulia Veloce Spider that I owned in college. It was an experience that new cars will never equal.
Often your videos give me the experience, the feel I would get if I get the chance to drive that cars you describe. Often other videos are a visual experience, here it’s much more. Thank you for putting so much time into these things.
I'm glad to see manufacturers really valuing the work you guys are making. I appreciate this reflection video on the experience and also surprised to be more nterested in the island history more than the cars. It's nice to pay respects to the people living there
Ah, the Big Island! My wife loves to wax nostalgic about our romantic honeymoon there. That's where she met Dirk in the hotel bar, and she's been returning to see him ever since. I could probably afford a Porsche if I wasn't always buying wifey another plane ticket back to Hawaii!
+1 .. Very enjoyable presentation for this lifelong Porsche Fanboy/Owner which began with a yellow '73 914 1.8 in college ... A living large exposure through Porsche sports cars... Yeap, I'll view it more than twice ... Thanx Savagegeese gents....
Guys, loving what you do and living in the middle of nowhere by choice, we are so blessed to receive your videos and opinions are so well received…… Porsche is very special and amongst the best in terms of how vehicles drive, we are so blessed to have owned and driven the same…….
Amazing. What a trip! I was blessed to live and work in Hawaii for almost a year and loved taking my 1990 Miata all over the island. Some of the best drives of my life chasing rainbows up and down those hills.
A good way of "living in the moment" is spending most of your days doing nothing, so that way, you appreciate the interesting, new experiences. It's how I spend most of my days, because during times where I'm busy & time-crunching, THAT'S when I notice I miss things
Hawaii is awesome. I used to think it was kind of a “manufactured” tourist place, then I went in 2019. It is anything but that (except maybe a couple of blocks in Honolulu). It’s such a fantastic place, and especially to drive!!
It helps that all the beaches are public so everyone gets to share and enjoy the same spots, there’s not that sense of isolation like you’d get from a resort. Maui will forever be my #1 travel destination. It’s an experience for all of your senses from the moment you step off the plane and smell the plumerias in the air. I’ve driven rentals cars and mopeds around the island, but playing around in some Porsches truly sounds like a dream.
I had the pleasure of driving a 914 back in the day. It was like driving a slot car (remember those?) that had insane handling. Almost bought one, but couldn't justify it as a daily driver (I was 6'5" at the time). Thanks, Goose, for taking me down a very fond of memory lane.
Really appreciate this video, genuinely could have been longer and I'd still have loved it, enjoying what's happening in the moment is really important for exactly the reason you said: before you know it, the moment is over never to return!
I have been to Hawaii three times in my life on multiple islands. The Big Island is my favorite. So many changes of geography and climate can be experienced in a day. I have kicked around the idea of moving there some day, but even though I felt welcomed there as a visitor, I would not feel right moving and living there. Hawaii needs to remain special and it's culture needs to remain and flourish once again. They need to secede from the union. Thanks for another great video. The Roadster is one of my all time favorite Porsches.
Golly, could you guys get more lucky? This was a dream 'job' by any definition. Who could ask for more? My brother-in-law owns a pristine 356C in Sable Brown, which is the most beautiful brown color on the planet (if brown can be beautiful) that he keeps under cover and NEVER drives. I've only seen it in the flesh but 3 or 4 times. It's like a shrine more than a car and for good reason. It can only go UP in value. He also had a rare 914-6 before anyone knew what a cool little gem that car was. My point is this: Porsche made sports cars what they are and it defines what a sports car is even today. I drove a red 356 along a back road in Napa years ago and all I can say is that it felt like a go-cart, sounded like an eager lawn mower and it was totally fun. The car was just dripping with sheer driving joy, an event more memorable than my many years of driving a GTI Mk6 and MK7.5 combined. Next time you get an invitation like this one, please let me go with you! As for Kona coffee, that is one big MEH. I've had several varieties and it is so overrated, I don't know what to say. Pete's Alameda Breakfast Blend is far better. Smooth, full-bodied, nutty and pleasantly complex and yet harmonious, it beats anything coming out of Hawaii by far.
Comment probably going nowhere but I really like this type of content you guys do. Honestly I love the streams you do even if they are hours long, and it seems more enjoyable for you guys too. The old jokey days of savage geese brought me here originally.
Enjoy your days they fly by cars make you remember the past and bring you the future we all have our favorite cars but we appreciate your opinions and enjoy your videos thanks guys
Akin to winning the lottery guys. Fascinating experience. On the flip side of that coin if you ever consider letting a life long enthusiast tag along on one of your shoots count me in. Having been born in Detroit I can entertain you with a few stories. I've been to Hawaii several times but only to Oahu. What's striking is how small the islands really are. I get your hosts comment on wishing the tourists would eventually go home.
The lottery analogy is fitting considering you can win very small sums, too, and you typically invest a lot more than you get out, in small sums, regularly, bit by bit, hoping. That's how SG got this gig.
A very special trip/adventure. Seems like the reps are just respectful people in general, vs other people, the places they go, etc. I think Porsche does media presentation and of course marketing very well.
Wow I can’t believe I missed SG on the Big Island! We were staying in Waikaloa literally the week before the ice storms landed. Now I wish we stayed longer! Great travel vlog & illustrating the experience so well!
This was a great video about passion for the cars, for a beautiful place and life. Dont mean to be sappy…. I love cars, and yes their soul is not so prevalent in the newer ones…awesome job- very cool Porsches…😎
I had a 1956 356 Speedster shortly after high school. It had a 1750 912 motor with dual Weber carbs built by a man known as the Maestro here in the Bay Area. I had to replace part of the body pan due to rust and it did actually catch on fire 🔥, thank god I had a six pack of beer on the rear shelf but besides that was very reliable. The best thing about it was that I never knew what adventure I was about to experience, especially on road trips. Also, literally everyone did ask me if I wanted to sell it at gas stations. Bought it for 7k sold it for close to 30k and thought I made out like a bandit. I could have added a 0.😩 That being said the only car I own now that is close to that is a 1988 Alfa Romeo Spyder. Unreliable in the best way. Always an adventure.
My closest experience to the 356 was my very first car - a 1966 VW Bug (the venerable Type 1). The two share a lot in philosophy and engineering, but "The Peoples Car" is no Porsche in the purest sense. It was the late 1980s when I acquired my vee-dub and I proceeded to do the "Cal Look" treatment: lowered suspension, mag wheels, ditched the single port 1600cc flat-4 and stuffed in a dual-port motor that was bored & stroked to 2.0L and topped off with a pair Dellorto carburetors. Simple car, easy to tinker with, very cheap to mod, tons of fun to drive. Good times.
I am not a Porsche guy by any means. But I did own a 981 Spyder and I honestly think that's the best car Porsche makes. Barring the GT4 RS. Till the Spyder RS comes out, that is. And I think the best Porsche of all time is the Carrera GT.
20:10 ish, just wanted to say that the place I work now, we are literally all like that. We love our craft and are more than happy to spend all day talking to anyone, at any level, about anything related to the project. It took a while to realize that everyone is genuine and care about what they do because so much of my other life experiences say this doesn't exist. Finding those people, and building those teams take a long time and a lot of effort.
Maybe it was Doc Hollywood or the original Top Gun, or that I grew up with a VW Thing as my dad’s primary car but the 356 Speedster is my all time favorite sports car. I have a Thing still and I drive it with the windshield down and sometimes pretend I am in a Speedster… but there, I bet that’s the only Doc Hollywood reference in the comments 😆
I remember hearing before covid, maybe in 2019 or 2018, how Porsche did lend out press cars. As a result, the only people I've seen reviewing them were major publications like KBB or C&D, or it was smaller independent youtubers reviewing fan-owned cars. I've been wondering, did something change with Porsche reps in the last like four years? I remember some youtuber, I think it was Redline, saying Porsche and Tesla don't offer press cars, but that was in like 2019.
@@realbigtuna667 Probably because the build quality of Tesla cars is total junk, other than the fact that they simply go fast in a straight line. An intelligent, competent reviewer of any Tesla would rip it to shreds.
I have a 90, 944 Cabriolet. It is the car the Miata wishes it was. One of the last great analog drivers. Not "fast" by todays standards. Just a joy to drive.
Which I get why they choose to talk about haqiwaii over their history... You were shown why those cars and drop tops exsit to be driven in places like Hiwaii,Californa, Florida, Itally...
Porsche is great, like it's in the league of its own. I mean I have a base Cayman 981 and it feels much more special every time you are behind the steering wheel than most of the more expensive modern cars. You feel that it is not going to fall apart of you drive it with some degree of passion.
I was thinking of getting into the UA-cam automotive chit-chat game myself. One idea I had was for me to get in my old beater Sonata, pick up a different friend every week, and make them buy me a cup of coffee (lest I continue to keep driving). *Assholes In Cars Getting Coffee* ...... It has a nice ring to it.
Big Island resident and S2000 owner here - love the video! I've had many amazing experiences driving with Porsche buddies up Old Saddle road and Kohala Mountain road at 5am to catch the sunrise. How cool you could also experience it.
There are some amazing roads on the Big Island. I hope you got to the northwest portion of the island. That's some of the best driving. BTW, if you go back, rent a jeep. So many great places there you can't even see without a capable four wheel drive.

Foreal, if they had a secondary channel where they just treated it like a podcast I’d definitely subscribe.
Thank you for taking a moment to touch on the colonial aspect of Hawaii's history.
A very special trip/adventure. Seems like the reps are just respectful people in general, vs other people, the places they go, etc.
I think Porsche does media presentation and of course marketing very well.
Glad you guys had the chance to simply enjoy the experience without prioritizing views and likes!
Well done guys, this is awesome.
I live in Hawaii! so cool to see you guys driving in my backyard 🤙
you were in my homeland! well a couple islands over. im on oahu.
Thanks, really enjoyed this.
Awesome experience for you guys
Wow I can’t believe I missed SG on the Big Island! We were staying in Waikaloa literally the week before the ice storms landed. Now I wish we stayed longer! Great travel vlog & illustrating the experience so well!
Seeing Mark and Jack crammed into that speedster really gets me going.
Thanks, I enjoyed this.
This was a great video about passion for the cars, for a beautiful place and life. Dont mean to be sappy…. I love cars, and yes their soul is not so prevalent in the newer ones…awesome job- very cool Porsches…😎
Call me strange but I enjoyed this more than a review of another appliance from Honda or Toyota.
You guys need a car talk podcast. I feel like it would do great, especially with reviewing cars.
I could have added a 0.😩
That being said the only car I own now that is close to that is a 1988 Alfa Romeo Spyder. Unreliable in the best way. Always an adventure.
wow! super episode, bravo S Goose's!...brings back 914-6 back road memories! hmmm, aren't you always sorry you sold your old cars, :-(
My closest experience to the 356 was my very first car - a 1966 VW Bug (the venerable Type 1).
Wow, epic experience
914 - There is no substitute...
BTW, can I be a member of the Friends Club! if I eat a few more pizzas ????
Well Done!
Yes!!
I was at that waterfall on the Big Island. seems pretty muddy in your video. must have had a ton of rain the last while. Love Hawaii!
Yes, tons of rain. Good catch.
Thanks!
I love driving around the Big Island. It’s gorgeous cruising around in classic Porsches must have been a super unique experience!
I want the Friends Club! Picture for my Bedroom 🙃
Hats off to you two. Lucky ducks.
Hawaii is amazing.. I had a rental spec mustang convertible and drove around kauai and up Waimea canyon.. Was definitely one of my great memories
I am glad that Porsche is getting better at putting cars on boats.
I don't think Tesla offers press cars to this day, could be wrong though.
@@realbigtuna667 Probably because the build quality of Tesla cars is total junk, other than the fact that they simply go fast in a straight line. An intelligent, competent reviewer of any Tesla would rip it to shreds.
I wanna drive Hawaii in a convertible Geo Metro
I have a 90, 944 Cabriolet. It is the car the Miata wishes it was. One of the last great analog drivers. Not "fast" by todays standards. Just a joy to drive.
Which I get why they choose to talk about haqiwaii over their history... You were shown why those cars and drop tops exsit to be driven in places like Hiwaii,Californa, Florida, Itally...
Porsche is great, like it's in the league of its own. I mean I have a base Cayman 981 and it feels much more special every time you are behind the steering wheel than most of the more expensive modern cars. You feel that it is not going to fall apart of you drive it with some degree of passion.
wow, hoovies italian SL video and this Porsche video 😵😵😵
two of the most ICONIC names in motoring
Beautiful video
I was thinking of getting into the UA-cam automotive chit-chat game myself. One idea I had was for me to get in my old beater Sonata, pick up a different friend every week, and make them buy me a cup of coffee (lest I continue to keep driving).
*Assholes In Cars Getting Coffee* ...... It has a nice ring to it.
Assholes in shitty cars getting coffee*
Big Island resident and S2000 owner here - love the video! I've had many amazing experiences driving with Porsche buddies up Old Saddle road and Kohala Mountain road at 5am to catch the sunrise. How cool you could also experience it.
There are some amazing roads on the Big Island. I hope you got to the northwest portion of the island. That's some of the best driving. BTW, if you go back, rent a jeep. So many great places there you can't even see without a capable four wheel drive.
You guys are so blessed to have such an awesome job
