    MR556 “disadvantages”
    Her barrel profile *THICC*
    Her barrel interior *RAW*
    Her receiver play *TIGHT*
    Her buttpad and rail system *WIIIDE*
    I fail to see these disadvantages 🔥🔥🔥🔥

      I still can't believe people get suckered into buying that thing. There are so many AR companies out there now that give you way more for your money. HK doesn't like the civilian market. The MR556 is wayyy overbuilt. It weighs damn near 9lbs. That's a compromise. It costed 500 dollars less 5 years ago. That's quite the mark up. Believe me, I about bought one a few years back until I discovered LWRC. They give you way more for your money. Even a BCM for that matter. Everyone is like "wELL tHe sEAlS uSe iT" well .. actually they aren't all rocking hk416s anymore. They all have different systems from different companies. Plus the HK416 is absolutely nothing like the MR556. I honestly don't know anyone who would want to lug around a 9lb AR15. That's AR10 weight territory. Rant over

    @DevilDolphin My buddy has one. He was wondering how much customizing you can domto there Hzk MR556s. Such as, Can you replace the stock with a Mil Spec stock like a MFT Minimalist stock? Or put in a mil spec drop on trigger? Thanks!

    Did you know you could add the HK MR556A1 take down pins to any mil spec lower ? I added them to my mk12 build, it removed the play between the upper and lower for me.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  8 років тому +13

      I actually did not know that. If I get some play in a rifle build coming up I'll add them. They suck sometimes to take down, but there's absolutely no denying how they dial out the play in the receivers.

    They have the POF Revolution 16 inch AR-15 in .308 it would be a tough choice to pick. What would you rather have a POF .308 (ambidextrous) AR-15 or still the HK MR556? I mean when you shoot you’d make the stronger shots count with the .308 knock down power.

    Nice video! Glad you got a chance to put some rounds through your MR, the full review will be interesting - as I'm sure the felines will take part as well. My 14.7" LWRCI (with a M4-2000 can) really likes the 77 grain offerings from Black Hills and IMI, so I'm sure you'll continue to have similar results with your MR. Thanks for putting the video out.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  7 років тому +1

      That's exactly the ammo I'm going to run through it. The Black Hills 77gr stuff is in the #1 slot for me, but the IMI stuff is #2 for sure. Solid quality, little less expensive, and widely available presently. I'm going to focus stocking it in the future. I'm also looking at LWRC as soon as I get my MR762 and SCAR17. I think I'm sold on the IC-SPR to start with, then I'll probably get another. The 3 I've handled were on par with the HK's quality, about 1.5-2LBs lighter, and very attractive rifles. The price point isn't hard to live with either so long as you don't pay top dollar.

    I bought the competition version. Love the gun. My friend has a scar and it gets dirty so fast even when my HK is suppressed it has just a slight dirty residue after like 500 rounds. And for people complaining about the weight just workout I weigh like 155 and it’s not heavy to me and I’m not just shooting in an indoor range I’m running and doing zone transitions with it for a good 3-4 hours. I’m about to buy a geissele rail but I’m also thinking about buying the Vltor A5 full kit and I’m wondering would you go with a heavier buffer like a H3 or H4 rather than a H2?

    The heavy profile barrel is not a disadvantage unless you are going to carry it for extended periods in the field. Probably not an issue for a civilian purchased rifle. The heavy barrel allows it to handle the heat better and fire more accurately. Same with the non-chrome lined barrel. Chrome lining reduces accuracy slightly, but enhances corrosion resistance, which is a good thing, if you are going to carry in the field for weeks and may not be able to clean the barrel as consistently as you would need or like to clean it. Additionally, chrome lining enhances durability. Overall, not a disadvantage. Pretty smart for HK to make this weapon more accurate for civilian use, and generally won't impact the user.

    I’d love to get one but I have a LWRC 5.56 A1 (piston driven) and it’s every bit as good or better and you can save about $800-$1000. Those of you not familiar with LWRC, should look those up. I’ve seen them come out of water, sand, mud and start shooting, excellent rifle.

    I'm right there with ya man. I always hear the MR556 get cursed the minute someone brings it up in conversation. The first thing that people dont like (naturally) is the price, I hear the "what can a MR556 do that any good AR can't do". Then comes the barrel, and like you mentioned the fact that it takes emags and not Pmags, while that's an inconvenience it's no big deal to me at all. good video

    Lots of the info I have been curious about. Thanks for sharing. I think I want one, but am considering also the LWRC M6A2 or the SIG 516.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  6 років тому +3

      The sig isn't on the same level as the HK or LWRC. I would get the LWRC and set it up as a fighting rifle. Dot, or a 1-4 variable power, with a light, and possibly a can. That's a door kicking light weight piston rifle. The HK is a perfect special purpose rifle or 5.56 DMR. It's heavier and will do nicely with a 1-6x or 1-8x variable power scope with 77gr Black hills ammo. You can shoot them both quickly and run them both hard. If you're all about doing 10 mag dumps when you shoot, the LWRC will serve you better. The HK can take the abuse, but not extreme abuse if that makes sense. Not environmental abuse, I'm talking putting it on a full auto lower to be clear.

    • @jonathanedwards2983
      @jonathanedwards2983 6 років тому +1

      DevilDolphin yeah, but it’s an HK. “Second Cool “ if you know what I mean. If I am not mistaken, the designer of the 416 actually defected to SIG and was involved in the 516 project. Maybe I should just get one of each. LOL.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  6 років тому +1

      Honestly if you get all of them, or an HK and sig. Let me know how you like them. You'll also be able to see the quality differences. I'm not saying the Sig is a bad rifle by the way. They run just fine from what I've seen. The HK is unreal. I'm picking up some adjustable gas block LWRC's for my wife and I for dedicated suppressed rifles. I'll compare them to the MR556 when I get them.

    • @jonathanedwards2983
      @jonathanedwards2983 6 років тому

      DevilDolphin I wish I could afford all of them! I really have my eye on the LWRC. It’s a used gun in Olive Drab with an Eotech. I wasn’t really looking for another rifle and especially not a piston gun, but I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s old enough that it doesn’t have the twisted fluted barrel, but it does have the one piece bolt carrier. 2k for the package deal.

      I mean the way I’ve seen it is heavier just means less recoil. AR’s don’t really have much recoil to begin with so I’d think just even less. My personal preference is the least amount of polymer I can get. I personally like the weight.

      Daniel Defense is a very solid rifle company. I'm considering using their uppers for my DI builds, and the DD5V1 is on my radar as well. This rifle though, is definitely something special. Super smooth and easy to keep flat, even with the A2 on the front. I can't imagine it with a brake. Which I'll probably not do, because this one is flat shooting, and doesn't disrespect its surroundings

    How's it balance as you have it equipped? I Joebobbed up an SPR with an 18" DD heavy profile barrel and that thing is a pig with the optic, rail, and bipod... but I love it. I CAN shoot it unsupported, but it sucks and my groups are a joke... not that I have the cash to blow on anything that has Hk stamped on it right now, but I'm wondering if this might be a better idea in the future. Two inches of extra barrel isn't doing all that much for me velocity wise and that's the only real justification I have to stand on for the 18" barrel over 16".
    So that's my life story, hope you liked it.

    • @navyman8903
      @navyman8903  7 років тому

      Well she is very balanced as I have her equipped, but still quite heavy. Especially with the stainless HK mag. I will say, so far the MR556 is my favorite AR to shoot because it's heavy, it stays flat. The recoil impulse is perfect too. I like how heavy it is supported, but I might hate it after a 12 hour shift if I had to carry it, or something like that. Until I started pressing the trigger on threats that is.
      That SPR sounds like an amazing gun. I love heavy profile barrels, and I'm also looking to get into an 18" setup. Do you have a video on it on youtube? I'd love to see your setup and take notes possibly. It's a project down the line for me, but still one I'm looking to get. I'm shooting for an updated MK12 SPR.

    • @EH-kz3if

      +DevilDolphin Sadly, I do not. It's a shooter though... I the recoil impulse is really unique and I love it. It's very soft and straight back into the shoulder. I'd call it "sharp" but very mild, if that makes sense- like the impulse seems to begin and end faster than any other AR pattern rifle I've fired. I live in Suburbia Hell, Illinois, so I don't take it out much. Buuuut, I'm moving to Utah at the end of the month, so I'll be able to stretch my legs out a bit and see what it can really do. I considered buying the HK 556. A friend of mine at my office brought in his hk 556 for me to check out when he found out that I was considering it. I liked the HK very much. However, I did not buy the HK and instead bought an LMT CQB DI with the monolithic one piece upper for about $1600.00.
    There were three reasons why I did not go with the HK. First, price. At the time the HK was selling for about $3200.00. The second was the weight. The HK is noticeably a lot heavier than the avergae ar. Third the piston system. Every manufacturer is doing something different with their piston systems. Unlike the DI.
    I would not discourage anyone from an HK556, it is a super fine rifle and very well made just like their pistols which I own several of. I make a very good salary and could afford the HK556, but I could not justify the pice tag to myself.

      Having handled but not fired one, and being immediately handed a lightweight AR right afterwards, I can honestly say the MR556 seems built for fighting - it's like the AK of the AR-15 world. I won't fail you, and you can probably use it as a hammer, shovel, and can opener without problems. If that's what you need, then I feel the price is worth it (under the: "How much is your life worth?" question). If youfeel something else gives you a better ROI, and just plain works better for you, go for it.
      Personally, I'd probably do just fine, where I'm currently at, with an M1 Carbine and plenty of ammo, if I had it, just to demonstrate needs/requirements disparity. I don't need hyper precision out to 1,000 meters, or a tank-gun. I need light, carryable, 300 meters max range is fine, and "hit man-sized target, but probably wildlife instead" at that range. Only complaint is finding ammo.. any ammo, really, these days.

When I bought my 5.56 I paid $290.00 a box (PPU), $165.00 a box for 115g Speer ball ammo, and $265.00 a box for Sellier Bellot 45ACP ball. I do not even know how much that stuff is going for now.

    Hello DevilDolphin,
    I have saved up quite a bit of money in the last couple of months to buy my first rifle and I really don't want to regret my choice, that's why I'm looking for some recommendations. It would be very nice if you could give me some advice on what to get.
    I'm looking for an AR15 chambered in .223 / 5.56 that is as reliable as it gets. It shouldn't jam even under adverse conditions and it shouldn't need a lot of cleaning. It should also be durable enough that I could use it for the rest of my life.
    Furthermore the rifle should be accurate, well manufactured (with low tolerances) and compatible with a lot of other equipment such as magazines from many different manufacturers. Another important aspect for me is that the gun doesn't weigh too much so that it can be used for long periods of time.
    I'm living in Germany and I may not be able to get every gun that is available in the USA.
    However I have taken 4 guns into perspective that I can get my hands on and that all seem to come close to what I'm looking for. These 4 guns are:
    - MR556A3 (MR223A3 in Germany)
    - SIG516 Patrol
    - CR223
    - PAR Mk3
    Which one of these 4 rifles would you recommend to me? Or do you know one that might suit my needs even better?
    I'm glad that you read until this point and I'm looking forward to your reply!
    - Ilyas

      I'm in Italy and I think my first AR will be the MR223A3. The first models are not compatible with some magazines, however magpul upgraded their line to make them compatible with the HK. I don't know the prices in Germany but here a basic non chinese AR costs 1200€, so I'd rather spend on a quality rifle than having something that I'm not satisfied with. I've seen the MR223A3 in a gun shop and it's amazing, german things are always the best!

    • @-Turtl3_
      @-Turtl3_ 7 років тому

      I agree on your point that quality goes over quantity, that's why I saved up a lot of money in the last couple of months. I want to be satisfied with what I get and not regret my choice.
      Here in Germany the MR223A3 costs about 2700€, maybe somebody could get it for about 2500€ if this person finds the right dealer. However that's still a lot more expensive than most other AR15s and to me it seems like there isn't a big difference between the MR223A3 and similar rifles like the SIG516 Patrol. An arms dealer told me that the biggest difference is the manufacturing quality, however he hasn't gone into detail. I think that I'll keep researching and try to find out more about these differences.

      The SIG is a great rifle too! Prices are the same here, so the difference between them is about 600 euros. I personally love the FDE color and it seems like the SIG doesn't offer it unlike H&K. • @altmarket
      @altmarket 7 років тому +3

      It depends on what you want it for. If you want a gun to fiddle around with at the range just to show off to your friends and poke some paper at 100 yards max from a nice bench, then there's no reason to spend more than $1000. If you want something that you can drag through the dirt in Afghanistan and still have it function flawlessly when people try to kill you, then you are going to spend at LEAST $2000. It's all relative according to your standards.

    • @PaulMauser
      @PaulMauser 7 років тому +4

      I shouldn't have come off saying it's completely ridiculous. If someone want's to spend that much then so be it, I've done worse. It;'s the fact that people keep trying to justify the price claiming things like tactical advantages and what not. Just admit you got the gun because it's bad-ass. The military found the full size m16 to be more reliable for a fraction of the price, but the m4 to be less reliable. My beef is more with HK and the fact that they overcharge for everything and add features like the pins just to add to the price. You can fix receiver slop with an o-ring over the front pin. Luckily they've changed things like this on the newer models.
