I used this constantly for around a year. I still think it’s the best wb satinwood for application I’ve ever used. The two things I’ve found that bugged me most were the inconsistency in the opacity and the sheen level. The opacity issue I could put down to user error on occasion. The sheen level I can’t figure. There are times it looks like I’ve used silk emulsion! Others it’s been spot on. I’ve since been trying various satinwoods. They’ve all got their foibles. I get all my paint including the wrx from Topdec. £50 a gallon.
Google is definitely listening!! My local crown decorating centre has just started stocking this. I had a conversation about it with the guy in the shop as I've a few doors to paint soon and low and behold your review of this was suggested for me to view a couple of hours later on my phone 😂 Love your videos Phil, been really helpful for me and you have converted me to arroworthy brushes! Wonder what the full cure time of this is? 7 days or a month like bedec being fully acrylic. Tested over a very deep blue and coverage is surprisingly good. WRX claim it will stick over old oil with proper prep but may be a risk without a Grip primer? Will give it a scratch test in week or so see how it holds out. Good video phil
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yes I think it has a very nice sheen more like true satin. Alot seem to be too flat like eggshell especially crown fast flow. I think a few of the quick dry glosses are more an old oil satin finish from years back. Impressed with wrx for the price tag :)
Hello, You recommended WRX Trade Satin paint a few weeks ago and said I would not be disappointed. And you were right. It is lovely paint. It went on well with both brush and roller. I found that it did not run but I am not sure if that is due to the paint or my application. It will be interesting to see how long it remains looking good. I bought it directly from WRX and their service was excellent. Thanks for the tip.
i used this paint last spring for my passage skirting,stringers as i have alot of traffic including children and i was told its super strong and it is. about £50 from B&Q for 5ltrs. happy new year phil and another nice video
So whats you favorite w/b system. What's your top 3 or 5. I've been using bedec aqua advance this week . And it's very good. Also its very durable I done a scratch test with a scarper. Very impressed with its durability. I've got the isomat p/u & satin to try on my next job.
I'm happy to use any of the below... and TBH... it comes down to personal preference on how you feel it applies etc. Mostly use Satin over anything else.... Isomat Bedec The WRX is very nice... but also the ScuffX and Jono Aqua Gaurd are too. I'd have no problem using any of those. You have to weigh up those that take two coats.. and those who you will use three. When you need an extra top coat.. i makes a lot of difference.. you notice it even more when you are using wb Gloss. I'd say we use more Isomat generally now, BUT.... have been using Bedec Aqua Advance Gloss this week and also F&B Gloss........... along with Isomat Isolac Gloss. Oh.. I also did a window in Dulux QD Gloss (white. they've all been in White, apart from F&B in Wimborne). Gloss levels very much a muchness, none jump out at you a better than the other.
I used Satura BL on my woodwork which is the subject of one of your videos. Please confirm that is is water based. I have half a tin of BL from 6 years ago which I wrapped in clingfilm. Will it still be OK to use? Finally, will this WRX paint be a good alternative to Satura BL and will it go straight on top with just a sanding and cleaning? If so, one coat enough or should I put on two? I also see a lot about Leyland Trade Satin, some good but some bad. So, Leyland Trade or WRX? Your videos are good I wish I'd seen them before.
Hi. You've found me now, so don't worry ;) Sikkens Satura BL is waterbased. Clean out with water. Clean down, sand the Satura BL, and TWO coats of WRX Trade satin, will be ideal. If a vast colour change you may want to give an extra coat. I've a WRX Trade eggshell video coming out in a few weeks... That's nice too, more flat finish... Like an egg! Leyland.. not tried that. Give WRX a try, you won't be disappointed. What did you think to the videos on scuffX and also Aqua Guard, that's not a bad paint either.
Never used it wrx. But looks OK 👍 3 coats over that green not bad. A friend of mine used the spray paint for his pvc windows 2 tins off ebay. Self priming stuff to. 2 coats looks sweet I was really impressed with it. And scratch test was brilliant very hard wearing. He's not a painter and didn't key up the surface either. I'd defo recommend the spray stuff

I know you wasn’t keen on diamond satinwood but I’ve never had an issue with it. Spot prime with bullseye then 1 full coat followed by 2 top coats of diamond. Would you say this is better then the Dulux?
Hi Phil, if waterbased paint needs 3 coats 4-6 hours drying time, then I'll stick to Dulux Once,slight touch up next morning & all done.Satin oil based then waterbased .
Hi Phil. Advise if possible please. I've used this and was impressed but 3 coats to be bang on. But I used the wrx wall paint white. Defo recommend 2 coats over a very dirty old white but, all the caulking I did it waa cracking bad. Some left couple of hours and some parts 24hrs. Have u had this problem?? Been told to use peel stop where its cracking. I was using the dulux trade caulk. I seen the cracking before with other paints but the wrx wall paint was really bad. Managed to cure it eventually painting over it.
Get some Red Devil onetime caulk... It's flexible and interior exterior caulk. I've never had problems with it. I caulk day before But have caulked an hour before spraying and it's not crazed

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator think it's for both interior and ex. Says in dulux website. Can be painted in 1/2 hours it says. Not really had a problem using dulux paints or Johnsons. Just using the wrx emulsion. which is brilliant apart from the paint cracking on the caulking.

Re flashing, I do the top four panels, first, but keep it off the face of the door, then bring the rest (rails, stiles, muntin) down in one, finishing with the two bottom panels, if it does go off, it wont be noticeable on the mouldings. This avoids having to keep getting up and down which happens when you paint it 'traditionally' and and avoids any chance of flashing. Water based paints need different techniques
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 😊 too old for all that upping and downing now mate, 😔😂 and the edge of a diyers door will definitely be lost with a water based paint in a warm environment doing it traditionally, (edge, panels, muntin, top, transome, lock, bottom rails, lock stile, hinge stile)...very time consuming.

I have architrave which has been stripped back to the wood (numerous layers of paint and varnish). Should I use water based or oil based undercoat before applying WRX?
use their water based primer/uc Is there knotts in the wood? use a rattle can of zinsser BIN or Roger&Smith Blockade and spray the knots a couple of squirts ;)

You can't go wrong when purchasing top line paints from any paint manufactures. Incredible paint brush everyone must see is the Hyde 2 1/2 gooseneck paint brush extender. It has 4 wonderful features. Damn right,the Hyde gooseneck is the most versatile brush on the market bar none.Has saved me a fortune over the last 2 years with really awkward cutting in areas.As you said it's a must have gadget.They must start stocking it in the UK.
Ive used both the WRX eggshell and Satin this week and yesterday.. neither needed any water adding.. staright out the can was perfect..... WHITE and coverage... its questionable with so many paint brands, WRX is no different. But a nice paint to apply, the eggshell finish is very flat, the satin has a bit more sheen and I prefer that.. hence this week I've re done th eggshell to satin as prefered the look in the end lol
I personally don't like the finish as compared to bedec, scuff x, caparol PU, isomat aqua etc it just does not lay flat like all those others. It's also not very scratch resistant compared with the others as the paint surface marks quite easily 🤷🏻♂️
Is this paint easy to use for a diyer as the leyland trade fast drying undercoat and satinwood I bought is so hard to use as it's drying to fast and you cannot tell where you painted
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator How much water would you add to the first coat of paint and would you add any water to the second coat. I'm using a hamilton prestige pure synthetic sash brush and a prodec ice fusion brush. When using the sash brush I keep getting bits in the paint and you can see bits in the bristles so i'm thinking the bits are from where the paint is drying so fast. When using the prodec brush it clogs the bristles and it just drags the paint.
@@hardworker8030 ooooh. Change your brushes. It's breaking off the bristle and falling back in... Or wah them out regularly. Tbh... You shouldn't need to thin, unless you feel a slash... A cap full of water into your paint pot helps. You don't want to over thin or it won't cover.

@@hamiltonlowry1018 a light sand, as not to break through the varnis, you you don't want to get bare mahogany staining through. To stop hard wood staining, on mahogany, you'd use aluminium leafing primer (oil based) that stops any staining. If you don't break through the varnish... thats' holding back any staining...... you can use a grip primer... one that hold of tanning even better. then Uc and two top coat finish. like normal. Gloss in water based..... best gloss... try dulux qd gloss... or the Jono aqua gloss... the brush killer... they have a high gloss level... albeit hybrid. Unless you can talk her into a satin wood finish.
yes but you have got a chance to get 3 coats on in a day would take at least 2 days with traditional undercoat and gloss 3 days with traditional primer undercoat and gloss on any bare surface. sometimes you need 2 traditional undercoats which would extend it to 3 days on painted surface especially when traditional undercoat isnt as good as it once was 10-20 years ago with all the restrictions on paint theses days.
The worse thing to happen at crown was when they dropped Brolac and brought in macphersóns, the reps tried to say it was the same Brolac formulations (lies!) Brolac superflat was the best contract emulsion bar non. I find the consistency of crown emulsion 'gluey', 'like painting with snot' as one of my colleagues said a while ago.

satinwood is more sheen than some want.. then eggshell can be too flat a finish. Gloss.... lts not go there lol

Its all horses for courses mate, I like the bedec better than the scuffx. Although I never used this wrx I will keep an eye out for it....

Hi, I think so.... put a splash of water in your kittle for the first coat, see if its easier to apply.. also.... brushes.. what brush are you using?

I'd say so, but others may say different. Aqua Guard is more similar to the WRX, but i's how you feel applying.

@@hamiltonlowry1018 a light sand, as not to break through the varnis, you you don't want to get bare mahogany staining through.
To stop hard wood staining, on mahogany, you'd use aluminium leafing primer (oil based) that stops any staining.
If you don't break through the varnish... thats' holding back any staining...... you can use a grip primer... one that hold of tanning even better. then Uc and two top coat finish. like normal.
Gloss in water based..... best gloss... try dulux qd gloss... or the Jono aqua gloss... the brush killer... they have a high gloss level... albeit hybrid.
Unless you can talk her into a satin wood finish.

I've been using it today. I'd used tye eggshell. But once all dried I didn't like the flat finish. So re went over with WRX satinwood

yes but you have got a chance to get 3 coats on in a day would take at least 2 days with traditional undercoat and gloss 3 days with traditional primer undercoat and gloss on any bare surface. sometimes you need 2 traditional undercoats which would extend it to 3 days on painted surface especially when traditional undercoat isnt as good as it once was 10-20 years ago with all the restrictions on paint theses days.

The worse thing to happen at crown was when they dropped Brolac and brought in macphersóns, the reps tried to say it was the same Brolac formulations (lies!)
Brolac superflat was the best contract emulsion bar non.
I find the consistency of crown emulsion 'gluey', 'like painting with snot' as one of my colleagues said a while ago.
