Glad to see you finally covering this gem! I've had it on Steam for like a year now, been playing it on my Steam Deck recently! Looking forward to seeing you cover "Hell Pie" eventually too 👍
I love that you always cover these obscure games that would get over looked otherwise, I’ve played a lot of games from your videos and had some amazing experiences thanks to them! I appreciate all the work you put in and consider you a massive inspiration man! Keep it up! 😬

I've bought titles such as Kao 2, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, Scaler and Sphinx after I saw you having a good time with them. I gave more recent games a chance such as Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair (after the original one disappointed me), Psychonauts 2 and Super Lucky's Tale after you spoke highly of them. You are a great reviewer and the amount of excitement you're giving off in your videos is highly infectious! Whenever you admit a game is fun, they're actually fun! Super Sami Roll looks amazing and I can tell from your video that buying it won't be a bad bargain. Nitro, many thanks for giving these platformers a try and giving me inspiration on what to play next! You've given me tons of fun by introducing all these games to us. Keep doing what you're doing.
I figured out how to describe the Nitro Rad aesthetic. This channel is the epitome of "Casual Hardcore". Bright, colorful, incredibly wholesome... And not afraid to say "fuck". Total challenge fiend... Without a second spent shaming people for playing on easy or sneering at them to "git gud". That's how you really know a guy loves the idea of challenge on a fundamental, intrinsic level, not the idea of gatekeeping through challenge. Love of fun for fun's sake is one of the best traits a player - or reviewer - can have. I've said for a while that real confidence is when you don't feel the need to show off or put others down - and man, that confidence just oozes out of this channel. Stay rad, Nitro. And thanks for keeping people in the know on truly underrated indie gems.
With the way Nitro gets so hyped about the joy of finding your own way to optimize the fastest run possible through a level, I feel like he'd enjoy Neon White a lot.
@@dogboymunky2679 It's exactly the kind of horrible juvenile writing that you'd expect from a B-grade platformer, the kind that's so fucking awful, it somehow loops back around and becomes charming Except a lot more horny

Quite surprising to see this out of the blue video not only cover what could be potentially considered a Chameleon Twist spiritual successor but also to see the sheer amount of praise and adoration you heap onto this game. It's always great to hear you excitement about a game. 2:56 - My first thoughts when seeing this game was that it had too much momentum, but you wonderfully demonstrate how this game utilises it's quickly stopping bounce and direction altering tongue technique to give immense control to Sami whilst maintaining that smooth movement. It's all pretty incredible seeing in motion.
What I love the most of your channel is how you touch obscure games (good or bad) or hidden gems/oddities. For you I played "Off", discovered my love for survival horror games and as a platformer guy I'm always looking into your reviews about those games, even if I played them or not, will play them or not I love how you understand and talk about them You're one of my favorite gaming channels and your content makes me happy always man. Never stop creating, your fandom really loves your dedication. Greetings from Ecuador!
Hey Nitro!! It was really cool to hear you talk about the difficulty options in this game ! I rarely hear people bring up difficulty or accessibility stuff so it was really nice to hear I could give this a chance !! I love platformers but I've struggled with them due to losing a lot of dexterity and strength in my left arm. I can appreciate a lot of details from the games you talk about but it's really cool of you to mention that one aspect since I might actually be able to check it out :) !!
This game is just so cute! Thank you for directing me towards this game. Funny thing is, I've been playing another indie game featuring a tongue grapple with Frogun.
I love 3D platformers despite sucking at them, but I definitely prefer the tighter more level based approach over more exploration driven platformers. This seems to tick that box for me! I'll check it out.
Hey! I have seen that game before, only the first few minutes of it, it looked pretty cute. Good to see a proper review, I might grab it when I'm done with Tunic.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I was waiting that Chameleon Twist analogy and boy howdy did you deliver! Great work, I will have to add this to my backlog.
It makes me so happy to see you so excited for a game, especially a hidden gem like this! Your enthusiasm definitely makes me want to check the game and this studio out. Thanks a bunch! 💙
The way you described the level design and wanting to replay levels reminds me how I felt with Neon White. The simple Speedrun, easy reset type of levels are usually always fun when done right
If you're a fan of this game, I'd highly recommend Neon White. Its a platform-shooter that combines the fast and frantic nature of Sami Roll whilst adding unique movement options by way of various guns that can be discarded for special abilities. I'd definitely check it out of you had some time!
Really cool to see you cover this. I loved this game from the moment I started it and was baffled as to why it wasn't getting more attention. I think the best part about it is how fulfilling the levels are for lack of a better term. There aren't many 3D platformers i've played where every level feels like it was fully fleshed out and the mechanics were pushed as hard as they could be but this game manages to capture that for most of its play time and then some. I absolutely cannot wait for whatever they make next since they've more than proved themselves with this game.
Always love seeing your enthusiasm for Chameleon Twist because it was always so unassuming when reflecting on my childhood game memories. Im definitely gonna pick this up!
I love hearing about for real hidden gems like this that I otherwise would've missed out on if someone like you hadn't talked about it, definitely going to be picking this one up in the future.
thanks for covering this game! i picked it up due to this review and am loving it! Also am showing it to some friends and they seem to be enjoying it as well!
Bought this game immediately after this video! It's great! Thank you for always giving the spotlight to games like this! I would've never known about this game otherwise!
Bought it and played it thanks to you. What a great game!! The movement is super fun and there's legit challenge in the end with the bonus unlockable world
Super Sami Roll, a very small 15USD indie game from a very small indie dev beated Balan Wonderworld, a huge 50USD AAA game from a video game director veteran and published by a multi million dollar studio Square Enix, in every possible level, so, you guys have our respect, well done!
The grappling hook tongue thing letting you jump out of it if it connects reminded me quite a lot about The Messenger. In that game, if you manage to connect a slash, no matter if it's a background item or an enemy, you get an extra jump. Pair this with the skills and tools you get throughout the game (which yes, includes a grappling hook), and as long as you connect your attacks, you can keep maneuvering through the level without ever touching the ground. It's tremendously satisfying.
I immediately bought this game after the review, it looks great; and it just happened to be on sale, but the team deserves every cent for this. Thanks for the recommendation
you should check "Hell Pie", "Crumble", "The Pathless", "Spark the Electric Jester Series", "Toree 1 & 2" or "MACBAT 64", "The Ori series of metroidvanias", "Pumpkin Jack", "Mail Mole".
Oh man, I love this game. I bought it on a whim when I was browsing through the Steam store, and I can't begin to explain how happy I was with the decision. It's equal parts Monkey Ball and Mario, and it's just so good. The late game stages are tough as hell, but the devs clearly wanted to make sure every level of player could have a good challenge.
First Demon Turf, then Blue Fire, now Super Sami Roll. I swear, you are a beacon of hope for lesser known indie games, Nitro Rad and I hope that trend continues, because Demon Turf was a trip and a half and I'm planning on getting not only Blue Fire, but now this game as well!
Yet more proof that indie games are really the market that are evolving the whole gaming scene! I'll consider checking this one out. Sami looks SO adorable!!!
I love that you mention the performance on switch compared to better hardware. I feel like a lot of other channels solely tend to focus on either the switch versions of a game without mentioning performance, or the pc versions of a game without mentioning others.
DUDE! I got this game for my birthday last year, and it made the wait for SMT V that much more bearable. I also love how far Sami gets launched after bouncing on a slope or incline, because I used that technique to skip entire portions of a level.
I want to say that I am very happy that you review obscure games, or hidden games or such. Thanks to your channel, and your recent review of Blue Fire, my brother gave it a second chance and now he loved the game. Keep up the good stuff, James.
I actually never heard of this game before this video. Thanks for letting me and other people know about it. Looks like a fun game. While on the topic of obscure platformers. If you're planning on doing more Indie 2D platformers, I recommend Splasher. It's kind of like Super Meat Boy with a paint gimmick and it's really good. It's on PS4, Switch, Steam, and Xbox.
I'm the type of guy who knows the weirdest ass most obscure games and somehow even I missed out on this! Guess I gotta up my game, thanks for putting the spotlight on this one, gonna go play it now.
Hadn't heard of this game at all and bought it immediately when you started showing off all the movement, crazy how something this dope just fell through the cracks
Yep this game looks like such a hidden gem classic and im now even more stoked for bat boy now that I know these developers are involved. Buying it ASAP and thanks for the passion and true respect you gave this game. Super stoked you did this vid. Had no idea this brilliant game existed sadly.
I don't usually buy games like this, but literally bought this game just cuz I always wanna support the little guy, thanks to your video. It's rough watching an earnest project go completely under the radar. Personally it's not quite what I wanted out of it, but it is rock solid, and it has a hilarious versus mode you can unlock that I don't think you touched in this vid (unless I blanked out) that I can imagine playing with people sometime.
wow I haven't seen you this excited about a platformer like this for awhile, I love it. Totally getting this when I can, thanks a lot! Also I love how obviously mario inspired the look is, it really looks simple but pretty great. Imagine if Nintendo ever made a yoshi game with a gimmick like this
Sounds like what I'd call an actual hidden gem. Good on you for using your following to put the word out for it. I know there's a lot of other games like it that immediately fall in the wayside forever. All just because of the sheer amount of games that come out in this industry.
That's twice in a row now that I've tabbed over to steam to buy the game you're talking about before the video is even finished! Had a great time with Blue Fire and I look forward to seeing how this one goes :)
FYI for anyone interested who wants a physical release. This is one of those games Limited Run partnered with to release physically as a distributor outside of their numbered releases and the game is still available for purchase on both PS5 and Switch if you want to support the dev a bit more than a digital purchase would. The game is $35 and has been available to ship for about as long as this video has been out. Edit: Between this, Frogun, and a few other of these hidden gems like the more recent release of Anodyne 2 including a new PS5 port, Limited Run has done a pretty good job giving them a second life physically. Hell, Castlevania Advance Collection just went up for preorder last week on there with selectable cover variants for anyone who has a favorite from that collection.
What the heck, this looks so good! I guess this just goes to show the power of marketing, or what a lack thereof can do. Thanks for giving them a boost, Nitro Chad.
I now know which 3D platformer I'll download and play next! Thank you James for always showing us these obscure incredible games that deserve more recognition!!

This is the most important video you’ve made. This game, as you pointed out, did not get much attention. Very impressive game! Thanks for another great video Nitro Rad.
The way you talk about games makes me more convinced to buy them than any actual advertisement I've ever seen in my life
I want to say that I am very happy that you review obscure games, or hidden games or such. Thanks to your channel, and your recent review of Blue Fire, my brother gave it a second chance and now he loved the game. Keep up the good stuff, James.
Odd coincidence. I took a punt on this a month or so ago when it was about to close pre-orders on Limited Run Games.
Glad you've enjoyed it!
Great video! I always love how you find these hidden gems that not many people have played.
There is a sequel in the works with a trailer for it. It's going to have a Kickstarter.
Thanks for giving this game some exposure
I now know which 3D platformer I'll download and play next! Thank you James for always showing us these obscure incredible games that deserve more recognition!!
Bruh I just want to say, I’ve been watching you since I was 15, and I’m going on 18, and I gotta say you’ve brought me lots and LOT’S of calming nights during some sleepless ones. I truly hope you are doing fine and I wish the best for you man….sad part is, I still haven’t played any of the games you’ve reviewed…so yeah…bye!!
This is the most important video you’ve made. This game, as you pointed out, did not get much attention. I stumbled across it on psn the day before it released just looking at the new section and bought it. Everything you said about it is so true. I really wish you went into the ng+ more. It’s wild, and I can’t manage to beat it. I need to go back and give it a try so I can finally get that platinum
This looks like such a charming and incredible game. I also couldn't agree enough with the other comments that your channal is so amazing with showing off these obscure platformers. If it weren't for you Nitro Rad I'd never have heard about games like Blinx the Time Sweeper, Whiplash, Under the Skin, or 40 Winks. By the way 40 Winks was the first video of yours I ever saw. Keep up the fantastic work Nitro Rad, you are an amazing dude.
