Hey man I really appreciate these videos I’m in welding school right now and want to be a pipe liner and I’m glad I get to see what’s it’s like
hey man any update on how things are? i’m in your shoes 4 years later and just looking for some ideas on how you like it
Doesn't look like the best working conditions, but at least your getting to work. Stay warm and be safe.
Dude love the videos I’m trying to do pipeline welding after high school
coffee is probably still room temp after a full days work with that YETI mug! I love mine!
Good stuff. If your ever down near the Charleston/Huntington area we’d love to buy ya dinner. Keep up the good work. Love it.
Ok, always great to have a good day.
Man seeing those sandbags gave me flashbacks of having to fill sandbags just to build those sleepers to support the pipe 😂
Ain’t nothin finer than a pipeliner!
Top man!
Still lovin your vids boss keep em comin if i was welding i would want to work w you !!
Dam that’s a good looking yota beside that white ford !!! 😎😎
Being on the job early is on time
Awesome! Turn and burn!!
Brother I like your show 👍
If you still in shinnston West Virginia I would love to meet you sometime if you have a chance
Sir, how do you stay fir or deal with injuries
Videos are awesome. Keep it up. What rods do they have you guys running on that pipe? If theres ever a chance can we see the back fill process maybe?
I believe they are the arch 80 PIPELINER’s. 8010
I’ll take note for sure. If I’m ever where I can catching them backfilling, I’ll get some on film.
Carl E Smith was the king pipeline contractor in rough ground in West Virginia
I'm heading out to south west texas to be on the line being in the xray truck
Very very interesting! Great video! Quick question? Are you concerned about the fumes? Are they not dangerous to breath? Thanks
The steel (area they are welding) is not coated with anything.
Awesome video Austin and I was wondering when you are filming on the ROW and in the ditch, is the company your working with ok you doing that because some places I go to won’t allow any pictures or any filming.
Austin, Have you ever worked for Michels?
So is that guy that best helper this side of the pipe? I know he was the only one. That might have alot to do with it. I never thought I'd like it, but I'm sorta glad to be welding in a shop on them weather days. Less money but less hassle. What kind of welding jacket you use?
Wine, dine, pipeline!
Question for ya Austin when you’re on a job like this one where you don’t welding off your truck do you still get rig pay?
Yes, we still get rig pay.
Austin those Tom water frames and or glasses if so how you like them and how do they work in comfort with your pan cake hood
Yes, they’re Tom waters. I like them. They are made to fit under the pancake hood. I think they have 3 or 4 different sizes, I got the smallest diameter.
So a question towards your helpers. Are able to bring your own helper everywhere or is it presented at each job from the union.
If you contract hire in, you can bring your own, but if you dispatch in, they have one for you.
Im 19 Years old and will become a pipeline welder in 2 years... I love your vids man
When you’re welding off of skid do you set your machine off truck on it?
We did here yes, just depends on the company you are working for. A lot of times they will have company machines on the sled, that way we can still have our personal machines on our trucks in case we need to go weld somewhere else for the day.
working in the mud makes it more fun
Awsome video! !!! Do you still get paid if you don't weld, like when that guy stepped in and you were taking video?
Yes, we get paid even when we are not welding. We get paid hourly.
interesting
Can someone please tell me the size of leads I should buy. I need them for a vantage 300. Should I get size 00 or just 0 AWG
1/0 is a good average size.
How do u get ur welder down in the ditch? Do u leave ur welder on the jobsite till the job is done?
The equipment moves our sled around. We don’t actually put the machines in the ditch, they stay on the bank and we just roll out leads out to the weld.
@@arosswelding u should start showing that part in ur videos
Is that pancake helmet homemade? A millwright I know had one like that.
It’s an empire south hood.
@@arosswelding Thanks, I enjoyed the video.
Hey man im a High School senior graduating in 2 months. Im getting into construction as soon as I graduate and will be doing labor in pipeline. Do you know the things they normally do?
Little bit of everything. Build skid sets, run water pumps, hook up belts, sandblast and coat welds.. things like that.
Water pumps should be under Operators.
How did you start off your welding career? Were you ever a helper?
Never was a helper, wish I would have been though. I went to a votech in high school for welding then worked at a shop for 3 years after high school then started pipelinin.
Austin Ross another question that I got, how do you start off when you pipeline? Like how do you pay for a rig and all that
What will be flowing through the pipe?
Natural gas
I know you are “Hired on” But basically you are a subcontractor on the job, right? So do you submit your time every week or does the job keep up with your time? Does your time start when you get to the job site trailer at zero 700?
Yes. I am sub contracted. But they keep my time.
That damn tie inn man needs to take better care of his welders
First!!!
Tie in days always seem like they are long cold and wet lol not sure why it works out like that
Ya buddy. I love it 👌😎
So are you with the 798 union?
Yes
@@arosswelding awesome man correct me if I'm wrong but you used to be non union right? And if so how do you like it compared to being non union.
That’s correct. I joined the union almost 2 years ago now. I like it. It’s been good for me so far. I feel very fortunate to be here because it can be hard to get in at times.
@@arosswelding That's awesome, thanks for taking the time to reply man, I've been thinking about trying to join the 798 after I finish my welding class at my college or just starting out helping non union, I'm not sure yet but if I go the union route it'd be a pleasure to work with you someday. You and your wife seem like great humble people, and love the videos btw.
Just enough snow and warm enough to make it miserable

life too short too be rolling in that muddy place a real welder would plank off the ground and weld in a clean spot
Videos are starting to get repetitive mix it up dude
It's a repetitive job. What do you expect? If you don't like repetition, welding or pipeline work wouldn't be for you.
I use to like your vidoes but you sound so needy telling us to comment below all the time and trying to sell stuff its a joke bro
