Like people actually think robots will be able to climb a ladder holding material and tools at fixing something at the same time, on a windy, snowy, or rainy day? Or will be able to communicate with homeowners or contractors of what they want, when, how? As time goes on technology will improve and help more and more with the construction industry but not to the point where “robots” replace journeymen lol

    This is much more sophisticated than when i was working as a welders helper one summer, what I did was set up the pipe to be welded, grinding, cleaning pre heating and setting up the gear, that took about 30 minutes, then the welder came in and welded for about 30 minutes with a stick welder, meanwhile i sat in the truck eating cookies and listening to the radio, then when he was done he came and ate biscuits while I was prepping the welds.

    • @ConstructionFun1

      It's still like that Peter. Big inch mainline is generally always welded with automatics now, but all of the tie-ins are still done with stick. The welders that you see in our videos do both. It's just that the automatics are more fast paced and make for more fun UA-cam viewing.

    • @mitchellmitchell6938
      @mitchellmitchell6938 4 роки тому +11

      Sigma most utility (natural gas), pipeline companies, and electric grids need “system operators/controllers”. These jobs don’t require a degree (although it helps). Most of us are prior military or have 10+ years doing something else for the utility company. It’s a job that requires you to speak and write in very good English (no urban talk, broken English....). You should have some sort of technical background (utility technician, welder, construction). It’s not an easy job to get because there are very few (my control room has 12 permanent controllers to operate everything in the state)

    • @mitchellmitchell6938
      @mitchellmitchell6938 4 роки тому +4

      Sigma Absolutely. PLCs are the means of control on a pipeline. Your familiarity with I/Os, analogue and digital, control loops, regulation, pressure and flow control, and safe operating practices, maintenance, clearance process, SAP, SCADA, etc have already given you a basic understanding of pipeline ops. I’d suggest putting together a resume to showcase this knowledge then get to work applying. Also look into being a pipeline technician. They maintain and repair actuators, valves, gas racks, instrumentation, etc. they are the guys we call when things go bump in the night (various alarms that need an immediate follow up). What state are you in?

      Skyler R apply for anything related to utility work, even with contractors. Go be social and make friends that hunt, golf, and go fishing. Start taking random classes at a jc in process controls, industrial safety, electrician classes, ptec, welding. Never stop applying. At least 5 (well targeted) applications a week. Apply at refineries, chemical plants, union halls, lineman, utility worker, power plants, gas storage providers.
