It astounds me how a hard rock artist can take a classic song like this, transform it and make it his own, his power, his passion, his intensity make the song more relevant to society today than when it was written in 1963, this guy is a true musical genius with amazing range, and has thrilled many generations right up to the modern day.

Very nice. I'll give you a 10 as well for putting the lyrics up on your video so that anyone not familiar with this song can easily follow along. The lead singer of the band Disturbed is David Draiman. He is classically trained in opera and chose to sing metal. The band is one of my ALL time favorites. Look them up. They have MANY amazing songs. Some I am sure you will know when you hear them. Especially Down with the Sickness.

there is no airquotes about it. Simon and Garfunkle wrote it and performed it first. It's a beautiful song on it's own but Draiman's voice does something to it that feels like it's been 40 years in the making and has at long last been finished. He's a once-in-a-generation artist

Simon and Garfunkel wrote and sang this song as a desperate warning of what was to come: Disturbed sang this song in anger and protest that the warning was not headed. Same song, separated by a couple of generations - different tone. Some music is so elegant, that it can echo through time to touch the heart of future generations. That's the miraculous thing about music.

@@Kirkunik1 Well that just isn't true at all.
Crime is at an all time low, especially violent crime. How do you suppose violent crime is at an all time low if people are more rude now than in the past?
Or are you just talking about on social media? Because I guarantee you that out in the real world, face to face, people are much more polite now than in the 60s.
Cruder? How so? What defines crude anyway?
Dumber? Really? So all the technological and medical advancements in the last 50 years have come from people dumber than the people who didn't come up with that stuff? The people that have access to all the information in the world all the time, are dumber than the people that had to go to a building somewhere and look things up in books that may or not have even been up to date?
The Flynn Effect, is the effect that shows that IQ has been steadily rising over the last 100 years. This effect is likely to be caused by things like a more stimulating environment, better nutrition, and better health.

@@KurNorock Crime and ettiquette are two different things. Dumber. Yes. Did you live in the 60's? If not then how can you make such a claim? I did. Great difference. We still had a measure of innocence. Today...toddlers are exposed to gender issues. I am not saying there aren't nice people today...but the predominate youth culture...and the leftist mentality is overall less decent. Lousy parents. And self centered snowflakes with no appreciation of how good they have it in this country nor what it took to establish it. They burn the flag...wear vagina's on their heads and need their safe spaces. It's disgusting the ingratitude and selfishness. Flying the American flag was a proud thing...not something people would attack. Kids didn't shoot up their school and classmates. Kids had hope for the future...not fearful of it. People knew what hard work was. With all the knowledge available at your fingertips today...do young people use the internet for that? Or video games or vulgar selfies? Better nutrition? GMO's? Better healthcare...yes. Doctors and scientists? Mostly coming from overseas...India...not America. In fact...companies can't find many American kids coming from the sciences. They come with business or social science or liberal arts. And then...they are undereducated. Mostly politically indoctrinated.

@@Kirkunik1 you keep saying it yourself. "they don't know how good they have it"
Yeah, they have it good, but they are soft and weak and they can't see how good everything is so they try to make it better. It's the human condition to never be satisfied.
Strong men make good times, good times make weak men, weak men make bad times, bad times make strong men.
The world as a whole is objectively better in every possible measure. It's just that people can't get their head out of their asses and recognize it.
What's wrong with GMOs? Do you even know what a GMO is? Literally everything you eat is a GMO. GMOs have lead to feeding more people and saving more lives and longer life expectancy than anything else in the history of ever.
If you ever had real non GMO food you would be dead by now. Bananas would be nothing but a tiny pod full of slimy seeds. Watermelon would be nothing but pulp with veins of fruit meat full of seeds. Corn would just be grass. Strawberries would be bitter and gritty, and the list goes on.

Melinda P Same thing happened to the band Extreme in the 90's. They sang a beautiful ballad called " More Than Words" and people ran out to buy their music and freaked when they found out what kind of metal they sang and that that song was just a one off that put them into mainstream play. Surprised many a listener who didn't know what they were really about. Like Disturbed did with " Sound of Silence". Although the video with DD's piercings and voice do give you a bit of a hint.

the song speaks about how people no longer speak or interact socially, Rather we live and speak to each other through technology....ie' Texting on cell phones etc...instead of being together we live our lives with our faces "bowed into screens"

I don't have seen no bad reviews on them, even Paul Simon gave them a 10.

Draiman has a great voice, and definitely knows how to apply distortion correctly, but I'd hardly call his vocals "Shouting" or "Screaming". For examples of those, look to Tom Araya of Slayer, and Johan Hegg of Amon Amarth respectively.

Hi, thanks for your comment 👍
Yes, you're right, there is many singers who growl and shout a lot more then David Draimin.
ua-cam.com/video/ZZZq_OQHi5M/v-deo.html I'm not sure if it would be classified as growling, shouting or maybe scat but someone who can do that with his voice clearly have a great voice, that was my point i tried to make :)

3:20 The song is basically what he is singing about. People in this world don't care to listen to you anymore. Pardon my french but, they they don't give a shit anymore and he's pissed about it!. Nobody cares to hear what have to say anymore and it sucks! It's sad! It's like he wants the world to change but, the world refuses to change! Your lonely and need comfort and nobody wants to listen!
