@@GangstaStan010 well its easy to say that but which scenes of Ethan hawk stood out most to you if any. Denzel over shadowed him to the point that anybody could of played that role and it would of still been a great movie
The test was to see if Jake can think on his feet and handle undercover. See when Jake is reluctant to talk about his female training officer (traffic stop story arresting a person with several loaded weapons to murder his crime partner before court) and Alonzo has him pay the bill, it's quick decisions needed on the field of work
As a guy who has been in Alonzo's place of being interrupted while wanting to do something other than listen to someone else talk countless times I can say that the only story I would want to hear is Hoyt leaving.
"King Kong aint got shit on me" Is the only reason i hate to agree with you. He's done arguably better movies....but this movie reeks on denzel quotables.
Alonzo is basically establishing himself as a dominant superior; Alonzo is manipulating Jake from the start. This is manipulation 101: it's the same kind of good-cop bad-cop tactics that an officer will use while interrogating suspects. First the abuser establishes a kind demeanor towards the victim, making the victim feel confident. Then the abuser makes the victim uncomfortable by displaying an escalating irritation with the victim's usually harmless behavior. The victim has experienced how kind the abuser can be, and they've become accustomed to that feeling, so when it's taken away from them, it feels like they've lost respect, and they keep seeking to get that approval back, immediately putting the abuser in the dominant position. It's actually also what Terence Fletcher does to Andrew Neiman in Whiplash. Alonzo offers Jake free food, to let Jake get a sense of how nicely Alonzo can treat him. Then by the end, Alonzo makes Jake pay the bill to send a signal to Jake that he's disappointed, and the message is that if you disappoint Alonzo, he mistreats you. Jake is being trained to obey Alonzo like an animal is trained to obey its owner. It's the same behavioralist training methods, except in one case, the reward is animal treats, and in the other case, the reward is approval. I guess that's one more reason why this movie is aptly titled Training Day. In the screenplay for Training Day, it was initially planned for Alonzo to pay the bill. Making Jake pay the bill is literally something Denzel Washington must have ad-libbed and Antoine Fuqua was smart enough to let him call the shots on the character for this scene.

After all this years I do have the same pleasure to watch this scene over and over . This was a pure acting from the to actors 👏🏻 but still Denzel washington is a phenomenal master 🙌🏼
Denzel is fucking good 3:09 that neck roll to show he’s more interested in jakes story is phenomenal it’s like he’s not even acting like he’s in the moment. If I was in that scene I wouldn’t of thought of that probably would’ve just self my line I truly feel he improvised that subconsciously tho. Hell of actor
Normal person: “pay the bill” Denzel Washington: “tell me a story. Oh you don’t have one? Let me tell you a story then....” 3 minutes later.... “Pay the bill”
With every line that I’ve now seared into my brain with memory of dictation attitude and emotion can recite at any point anywhere, I find myself smiling and getting happier and happier with every line
Incredible movie... I always wanted to believe "Brooklyn's Finest" was the follow up to Training Day. They should have lined it up that way. Where Jake decides to see things Alonzo's way after getting in to deep undercover.
I just realized that Alonzo mimicked a shotgun going off and it scared Jake and then later on they shoot Roger with one..... Funny how you find little things years after watching a movie
Dr kevorkian nah I don’t think I’am lol I mean Alonzo proved to be one step ahead of everyone in this movie. The only time he doesn’t outsmart someone is whenever Jake takes the money at the end. But the shotgun thing? I cannot allow myself to say it’s a coincidence when Alonzo even says “I’ve been planning it all week son!” So he knew exactly what he was doing when he made that small reference there. Seriously go back and see how many little things you can find, it’s crazy
psychoclownboy at least someone else sees my ENTIRE point. These people say I’m reaching? Yet all these little things are picked up on. That’s what I’ve been trying to say this whole time tho, Alonzo was smart from the jump and like I said the only thing he didn’t know was gonna happen was Jake randomly saving a girl from gettin raped/killed from 2 crack heads who turned out to be Smileys cousin. That there saved Jake because he was able to walk away and take Alonzo’s money.
I hate when ppl try to put lil bullshit in a book or movie up like it was a precursor. Look an ant died. Omg.. someone is gonna die later in life. Surprise, everyone dies.
"It was a real quiet night" "BOOM" 1000% accurate. I remember being on ECP guard my first tour, bored to death and just happened to notice there was NO local nationals on ECP road. NONE. About a split second later a PKM opened up on us, I about shit my pants. We all opened up, I was on the .M2 .50. Over in seconds. It happens like that, nothing, nothing, nothing, then BOOM!!!!
The lingering shots of the city, like the first 6 seconds of this clip add so much atmosphere to this movie. By the time you see Jake entering the diner, you've already been transported to Alonzo's world. The director does the same thing in his navy seal movie with shots of the jungle

1:37 Detective Alonzo was trying to warn us about Fake News lol
Denzel is fucking good 3:09 that neck roll to show he’s more interested in jakes story is phenomenal it’s like he’s not even acting like he’s in the moment. If I was in that scene I wouldn’t of thought of that probably would’ve just self my line I truly feel he improvised that subconsciously tho. Hell of actor
"If you dont read the newspaper you're uninformed, if you read the newspaper your misinformed"-Denzel
Normal person: “pay the bill”
Denzel Washington: “tell me a story. Oh you don’t have one? Let me tell you a story then....”
3 minutes later....
“Pay the bill”
you do have a dick dont u?
With every line that I’ve now seared into my brain with memory of dictation attitude and emotion can recite at any point anywhere, I find myself smiling and getting happier and happier with every line
2:38 best part! Hahaha! I do that to my kids when they are telling me a story that's going nowhere. 🤣
Life before smart phones
Incredible movie... I always wanted to believe "Brooklyn's Finest" was the follow up to Training Day. They should have lined it up that way. Where Jake decides to see things Alonzo's way after getting in to deep undercover.
Cyclonus76 great point
@@pilotclarke7149 If I'm not mistaken, the same director did both movies...
I feel like training day is one of those movies you watch once and then carry it with you for the rest of your life
Denzel gave one of the greatest performances of all time in this film. He's right up there with guys like Brando and De Niro.
Denzel has the gangster blood in him
He character is basically Bone Sloan and Raquel Perez.
Especially in American Gangster.
He's essentially just a thug with a badge in this film.
I just realized that Alonzo mimicked a shotgun going off and it scared Jake and then later on they shoot Roger with one..... Funny how you find little things years after watching a movie
Andre Bradbury I think your reaching there a little bit matey
Dr kevorkian nah I don’t think I’am lol I mean Alonzo proved to be one step ahead of everyone in this movie. The only time he doesn’t outsmart someone is whenever Jake takes the money at the end. But the shotgun thing? I cannot allow myself to say it’s a coincidence when Alonzo even says “I’ve been planning it all week son!” So he knew exactly what he was doing when he made that small reference there. Seriously go back and see how many little things you can find, it’s crazy
think you're reaching... the shotgun mimic was a intro to Alonzo as a character
psychoclownboy at least someone else sees my ENTIRE point.
Not just Denzel, both of them were brilliant actors.
Matter of fact, in this scene, the rookie cop impersonator is harder to pull off
Beautifully shot scene! Hats off to Antoine Fuqua.
Denzel was a cold one lol 💯
Pure power play move by Alonzo in this scene.
Denzel too smooth in this scene, especially on the end of it
This scene was 🔥🔥
Man, the talent this guy has.
That boom at 3:23 gets me every time 😂
DenzeL is unique ! wish i see him 1 time in my life
This is one one the best scenes in movie history!!! Just great acting all around!!! Wow!!!
Denzel Washington is one of the best actors ever
I use that "Boom" at every job interview.
Idk how this script was written in production or how much was organic from these 2 actors but both actors played off of each other perfectly...
Loved this movie!! Licker license?
Was she adyke? A lesiban?
Great line... As well as " boom"
Denzel's even rocking the reading glasses!
Everytime I see someone reading a newspaper I think of this scene lmfao 😭
Words of wisdom from 1:23 to 1:55 if you ever at a job interview or a social gathering or just trying to chat up a girl 🤣
1:59 - 2:02 dying in tears..."a DUI..HOOOO SHHHHHHHHHIIT"
Lmao!
Adam Khid 😂😂😂😂😂 deff the funniest part on here to me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Adam Khid Let me load up my guns 😂😂😂😂
Denzel best movie role was Malcolm X.
Dude still rocking the X look in this film scene right here too, dope creaativity.
Man on Fire, trust me it's better.
@@lukeingram7655 American ganster
This is the best acting Denzel has done
One of the coolest scenes in the movie!
3:58 i cant stop laughing
...And that's the story of how Alonzo got a semi-interesting story AND a free meal.
Denzel's funniest role, hands down 😅
The lingering shots of the city, like the first 6 seconds of this clip add so much atmosphere to this movie. By the time you see Jake entering the diner, you've already been transported to Alonzo's world. The director does the same thing in his navy seal movie with shots of the jungle
Yeah ese, Alonzo, he's a cold-blooded, ruthless vato,
But i like that, i like that
