The Army never caught her. The IRS did. They noticed she owned too many properties for her claimed income and the IRS investigated. She wasn't even working for the Army when the IRS caught onto her. She'd taken a job here in San Antonio for the Labor Department for some DEI type programs. The IRS told the Army something was fishy and they investigated.
The feds will allow you to continue your crimes so they have a large body of evidence. Also they let it happen so they can possibly catch any co-conspirators. It’s the reason the federal conviction rate is so high

There were other hands benefiting from the scam. They’re keeping their name and money and identity out of this! She took the fall….which is why she got a light sentence. I didn’t hear if restitution is part of what’s required required. All that money isn’t spent, she’ll have money to come home too!

I was thinking the same… hmmm, if this type of crime only gets me 15 years in prison, I think I will start with it today and enjoy my fabulous 6 years with 89 cars and 900 000 dollars worth of jewelry that I am buying in one day! - this sentence is ridiculously low. Huh? Where were the auditors? In my little union local, we needed three signatures for a check, we had a Treasurer, and Executive Director, a Budget Analyst, and the Union President poring over every expense, we had internal audits, external audits every year, and the budget was open to all of the members to see. It's not hard to build in controls over money.
