The dam won’t generate any electricity unless water is allowed to pass through the turbines. BTW, Sudan also has a dam just downstream, across the border on the Nile. Seems Egypt just wants a guaranteed say in water rights to Nile water.
Yes but having a country controlling your water level is just uncomfortable The Sudan don't have any problem flowing water whenever we want but Ethiopia isn't guaranteed
the reason is that for the dam to function it will have to store large amounts of water for long periods to create a potential difference and produce electricity which will affect Egypt's water supply and agriculture keep in mind that the Egyptian population is more than 120million also the Nile has noticeable shrunk in size but thankfully haven't effected Egypt that much yet there is more to it but I hope this helps

Ethiopia has a strong interest in a stable Somalia due to their shared borders, security concerns, and economic ties. Mr. Hasen (likely a Somali or regional leader) has wrongly accused Ethiopia of attempting to annex Somali territory. In reality, Ethiopia has only leased land from Somaliland for a few years because Somaliland is more stable and functional than Mr. Hasen's government. Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 and has had a relatively stable government since then. Despite this, the Somali government has remained silent on the issue, while Mr. Hasen has long recognized Somaliland as an independent state. You ain’t seen nothing yet! Ethiopia built this dam primarily to generate electricity. And because the dam is built just about before it leaves Ethiopian territory, the hype about Egypt being starved of water from this project is baloney. Btw, the reported “unilateral” action by Ethiopia is inaccurate. The action is based upon the 2015 MOU signed by Ethiopia, Sudan & Egypt. In accordance with that agreement, Ethiopia has adhered to it by taking several years to fill the dam so as not to affect significantly the amount of water that would flow to the down stream countries; namely, Sudan and Egypt. Having said that, Ethiopia has never ceded its God-given (natural) right to utilize the waters to feed its people. After all, 86% of the Nile River originates from Ethiopia. So common sense dictates that Ethiopia for sure will exercise its rights in due time. Ethiopia at some point would be justified to tap into its vital water resources within its territory to address the acute case of poverty in the country. I understand because these waters are transboundary, that they are governed by international law. Yes; they are. And that law says the water usage has to be equitable by all the riparian nations (all the countries the river passes by). Of the 11 (12) Nile basin countries, only Egypt and Sudan oppose equitable usage of the Nile waters. They want it all for themselves; 72% for Egypt and 18% for Sudan. No! It ain’t gonna be like that anymore. Every Nile basin country will get its fair share. And if Egypt says that it wants more water rights than its fair share, then it will have to purchase more rights. Whether Egypt & Sudan like it, or not, equitable rights of usage of the waters for each Nile basin nation will be a reality in the not too long a future. When that starts to happen, hitting the drums of war will not help Egypt as it can’t get into fights with all the other (9) Nile basin countries and expect to be victorious. They just need to wake up, and make peace with the new reality. That’s all.

You failed to mention that out of all of those countries mentioned, Somaliland stands alone as the only democratic republic on that list despite being internationally unrecognised. I also find it funny how Somaliland was the first out of the two between Somalia to gain independence from the European colonists and were solely internationally recognised for 5 days after which joined with the remaining part of Somalia and after a 30 year dictatorship decided to leave the Union, yet Somaliland (the only democratic and peaceful state in the region) needs permission or agreement to become internationally recognised from Somalia, a country which has had its hand held through the past 35 years to govern itself in which it has failed to do so time and time again. Not to mention being one of the most corrupt countries on the planet with terrorism and piracy galore. SHOCKING RIGHT?
First of all the narrative that Egypt and Somalia are teaming up against Ethiopia is absurd and delusion .Egypt is not in Somalia to fight Ethiopia but to support training Somalia forces to fight Terrorists and any foreign invasion. So yeah, Arabs just heard about Ethiopia recently and that's all they know about them. However if you ask any Arab about Ethiopia you'll find a disappointed look on their face followed by "May God inspire them to the good/right path".
Arabs understand so well that you can't judge a whole group by the actions of some. And they understand so well how media mobilization and censorship by a government works.
There are so many Arab countries and they are all connected (the public) so they figure out their way around censorship because the governments' sense of censorship are pretty diverse, so the truth comes through, by talking.

If Ethiopia were to officially recognize Somaliland, it would not be unprecedented
As an Ethiopian, that's the government's way of thinking and let me tell you the gov't and the people have been disagreeing on almost everything for the past few years now

That's because Ethiopia can't use nile for anything else except for electric dam so the water can keep flowing to egypt after generating power,
It's not because Ethiopia don't have food shortage famine issues actually it's top 5 in the world with poverty and hunger issues , food is luxury in Ethiopia not lois vitton , even electricity power 85% of the population out of 130mil ppl haven't seen electricity a day in thier life

That’s all.
@@affordableground-transport7169And Egypt has the right to be in Somalia then, even if they would be close to your borders.

They are either pretending not to know it or on board with the move of Ethiopian regime, but that's what triggered this whole regional crisis and the chain of events now. So Ethiopia has to stop violating of inter-state international laws and rules regarding to sovreign nations.
Annexing who Mfer. The land belongs to us and we welcome Ethiopia period
If Somaliland is Somalia, why have they been able to self-rule for decades now?
@@KingK2205 Because they are defacto independent. However, Somaliland is legally dejure apart of Somalia as every country recognizes it as a federal state.
This is like wondering why Abkhazia and South Ossetia are Georgian
@@makaahildheere no we don’t
The Oromos are not just trying expand into Somalia at the same time they’re trying to expand into Somali territory in Ethiopia and the Amhara state. The Oromos are on a land grab mission in case they secede from Ethiopia they can’t have more land and access to the sea. This has been a long time ideology of the Oromos now they just got an opportunity to fulfill their dream using the Ethiopian government
Cry more😂
@@chaitea2425 whos crying oromo ur crying u will never get sea😁😁
@@Yahya-vu1jq we already got one from Djibouti but we want Naval base which Djibouti did not agree to, but our Somaliland brothers will help us with that 😂 and there is nothing neither Egypt nor Somalia could do about it, that’s why they run around crying to Turkiye, the only country we respect lol
@@Yahya-vu1jq We have UAE and Saudi on our side so we not scared of two insignificant countries like Somalia and Egypt 😂
@@chaitea2425 The MoU is dead in the water. Turkey is forcing Ethiopia to negotiate with Somalia now. You will never get a naval base
can someone literally tell me where ethiopia started any conflict in the region? one instance?
1,eritrea invaded ethiopia in the 80s.
2,siad bare of somalia invaded in the 70s.
3,egypt invaded in 1876.
4,sudan invaded ethiopia just 2 years ago.
now tell me where in modern history
have ethiopians provoked their neighbours in a manner that would lead to significant millitary confrontation?
We have 6 neighbours
-kenya- we never had conflict
-sudan - no conflict
-south sudan - no conflict
-djibouti- no conflict
the only conflict that might be triggered by ethiopias actions is the mou with somaliland, but were sorry about that, acess to the sea is an existential matter, our neighbours want to suffocate us in a portless circle so we gotta do what we gotta do.
The ongoing one is suffice for that case. No need further proof.
@@moeawale4891 my message was for people who claim that ethiopia is known for creating tensions and tiggering conflict in the region, i excluded the current scene.
Ethiopia invaded Somalia in 06, creating al shabab
@@zeelupine5170 ethiopia entered somali territory to incapacitate alshabab, if not it would have been hard to contain, perhaps somalia would be under alshababs brutal rule if action wasnt taken.
@NazrawiTesfaye4567 you say "entered" i say "invaded" hahah no one gave Ethiopia an invitation.
Secondly, the invasion was the main reason for al shabaab to grow more powerful and fight off Ethiopia.
Al shabaab controls vast amounts of territory in Somalia, so not only did you exacerbate the problem but failed epically in preventing "brutal rule"
It’s like a new war every week
More like a new war every year of this sodding decade.
