Madonna's catalogue is endless, this was a big hit im 2001! No one has done what she's done and in my opinion she doesn't get the props for it in this day and age. She's a great savy artist always written off since the very beginning of her stardom. It's a miracle she's alive and not died like her fellow big legend peers(miss them BIG time).
This is one Madonna song and video, i remember from my childhood. Was played excessively on the radio back then, big hit in 2001, if i remember corrently from her smash Music album. People started to wear Cowboy hats and imitated her look in the video back then.
Don't Tell Me is a grower... if you were to give it another 3 or 4 listens, you'd begin to understand what all the fuss is about, and why it's so beloved amongst M fans 🙂 Remember, it's the ones that take a little time to reveal themselves that have the greatest staying power (and I'm talking about ALL music, not just Madonna's catalogue). I bet if you were to think back to songs that you loved on the first listen, you'd find that they're the ones you tired of rather quickly. Am I right, or am I right? 😉
Absolutely spot on! Björk's stuff is very much like this too. Takes a while (and sometimew quite a few listens) for the truly great tracks to integrate. Probably because they aren't relying on the formulaic proven "instant gratification" responses like modern pop commercial songs have exploited over the years.
@@gozzywozzy485 exactly! I mean, it's probably not the case with Don't Tell Me specifically, but I'd say from experience that I've sometimes needed to allow my brain time to grow accustomed to more complex, less predictable compositional structures (Tori Amos especially; I'm a massive fan - heard her live cover of Frozen? It's just gorgeous ❤). I theorise that when listening to a new song, our brain automatically tries to predict where it's going (chord changes, etc), and we get thrown off when it goes somewhere unexpected. So it takes a few listens to get past that. And the more complex and less formulaic the structure, the more listens it takes to "absorb." With Don't Tell Me, I think it's the understated-ness that upon the first few listens doesn't grab you by the throat, but soon enough you realise that it's deceptively brilliant in its simplicity. That's my take anyway 🙂
All of her songs are timeless. So different music than any other artist. You hear it and you know it’s Madonna. She is the best. Madonna was a pioneer of her time. will forever remain in history ❤️❤️❤️
I remember this being released in 2001. It was massive hit in Ireland, and the music video, her look & the choreography played a big part in that. The instrumental is what drives the song too. At the time it was released many people had bought the CD (MP3’s didn’t exist), and they mistakenly tried to return them to the shops as they though the CD was skipping! Nothing like it had ever been produced. For me it’s one of her top 3 songs.
With this track and also album she was trying to say that country music can be electronic and electronic can be romantic too so she did it , you get music that’s electronic yet romantic with a county twang 😊
Marissa! You kinda hurt my heart when you said you wouldn't listen to it again lol! Please do yourself a favor and give it a chance! Maybe check out Madonna's stripped down performance on David Letterman when she was just learning to play guitar. There's also a great duet she did with Miley Cyrus where they mashed this up with "Can't Stop". "Don't Tell Me" was originally written by Madonna's brother in law, a singer/songwriter called Joe Henry who works in an entirely different genre. His wife heard the demo and suggested he send it to Madonna, probably recognizing that the lyrics fit her sister's personality perfectly. Anyway, one of my all time Madonna favorites.
This was when Madonna really started experimenting with more artistic, obscure foreign producers and mixing genres not only sonically but visually like in this video. It's obviously not country music but the costuming and choreography work so well with this production somehow. She took huge creative risks considering she was such a huge pop fixture already and this sounded nothing like anything on pop radio at the time. Ray of Light in 1996, Music (the album this song is from) in 2000 and American Life in 2003 were here most experimental/creative albums and remain my favorite.
Glad you liked it. One of my total favorites. You guys nailed the experimental part and most of us who watched the video, before having the album, reacted to the "glitchy" part just as you did. You might need more than one listen to get the lyrics, but that's ok.
Loving your Madonna journey guys - she never fails to surprise with something you’re not expecting (bit like Abba in a way 😝) definitely recommend La Isla Bonita, Deeper and Deeper and Live to tell. Much love from the UK!
This song has 3 genre of music maybe four pop, rnb, country, with a hiphop feel this is why it's a brilliant song this is what u guys is missing about the song madonna is a genius at mixing different genre of music in one song
This song peaked #04 in both US Hot 100 and UK Charts in 2000/2001. It was the 5th best selling single in the world for 2001 and peaked #01 for 2 weeks on Global Charts early that year also spending many weeks inside the TOP 3.
This was written by Grammy award winning musician Joe Henry on his new equipment, as a test track, just to see how it sounded. It was a tango style song called "Stop". Anyway, Henry's wife Melanie (Ciccone) sent it to her sister who loved the lyrics, but completely re-wrote the melody and, with "Music" producer Mirwais, re-imagined it as a country dance song with the "Sweet Home Alabama" stutter effect. Henry's version was featured in The Sopranos and later included on his album "Scar". I like them both but as Henry reportedly said, "I wrote a song, she turned it into a hit".
Stop was a song written by 3 time Grammy winning country artist Joe Henry. Joe Henry went to Rochester Adams High Schoo while there met and fell in love with a girl two years younger named Melanie Ciccone, whom he married in 87 and they have two kids. He was also friends with Melanie's eldest sister Madonna Ciccone who was two years ahead of Joe in high school. Melanie convinced him to play the song for Madonna and she then rewrote the song into Don't Tell Me which was their first collaboration and they've done a few more which are all really good
Great Reaction! Glad you liked it! This song and video is one of my Mo Faves and I was inspired by the music and soundtrack featured in the movie 'Brokeback Mountain' that was hot about the same time. Listen to the music and videos from the movie to compare.
Would love to see you guys react to Madonna’s “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” official music video. It’s from the 1996 movie Evita. Madonna won the Golden Globe for best actress for the performance 🙏
I like your reaction, the girl speachless and the dude blushing and can't stop smiling. Because this song and this album is pretty much that. Older generations were surprised that she put out such a mature music and awesome production out. This album in a way marked my late teenage years and I remember I wanted to look like her in these videos. Still moves me to hear those hirs. Glad you liked it, folks and it's very sweet you just listened and appreciated how good this song is.
This song sounds like someone mixed pop, country, and dubstep in a bowl. Would like to see you two do a reaction video to dubstep music, like Skrillex's remix of "Cinema".
OK. I'm scrolling thru your past Madonna videos and I can't find a reaction to "Into the Groove". Unless I missed it, it's a major oversight . It is listed as the best dance song of the 80s by Billboard Magazine.
This song and video were so much better than Ghost Town. I love the Ghost Town song so much, but the video was subpar. I don't know. It just didn't hit me the right way. I don't hate it or anything. It's not coherent and it could be but in a good way. Don't Tell Me was a big hit and the video's concept was so original. The choreography was on point and original. Brava Madonna! Y'ALL NEED TO DO RAY OF LIGHT FROM THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW 1998. THE LIVE PERFORMANCE IS AMAZING. MADONNA HAD EVERYONE ON THEIR FEET DANCING. YOU CAN FEEL THE ENERGY. I THINK I LIKE IT BETTER THAN THE STUDIO RECORDING. MADONNA IS ALL STRIPPED BACK. NO BACK UP DANCERS AND HARDLY ANY SET PRODUCTION. JUST HER AND HER BAND PLUS THE INSANE AUDIENCE. SUCH A GREAT PERFORMANCE!
Agree, but only if they listen to the album version first, then react to the video. I fear the video on it's own would throw their GenZ heads for a loop.
I mean seriously what do y’all like? What genre of music. How old are you guys? What did you grow up listening to? And why does the male always look to the girl for validation during the entire recording? It’s distracting. All you guys can muster is “ oh, that’s interesting “ Your reactions lack any insight or even a minuscule of charm
Funny. This song was a massive hit in the day. But gen Z has been exposed to music directly influenced by this song and its producers, so they hear this and don’t see what’s new or interesting about it😂
I kinda agree with you both and yet this is one of my Madonna favs (but there's so many so...) absolutely love the video but I will say I have to be in the mood for this song so not a song I would listen to a lot yet sometimes it fits perfectly depending how I'm feeling. Have you guys listened to "Justify My Love" yet ? It took forever to be found out that Lenny Kravitz does the background vocals..please give it a listen !!!
I have watched 15-20 of your videos. The other person you have with you never shows any emotion, never disagrees with you, never says anything meaningful, why are they there? You should be doing these videos on your own.
Madonna's catalogue is endless, this was a big hit im 2001!

Madonna looks so beautiful in this video. Her dancing is amazing too
Man I love her. So versatile and inventive. Such an immense catalog. She called this era her folktronica phase. This song hit #4.
"Tell the bed not to lay
Like the open mouth of a grave"
Madonna never wants to stop 💗
This is one Madonna song and video, i remember from my childhood. Was played excessively on the radio back then, big hit in 2001, if i remember corrently from her smash Music album. People started to wear Cowboy hats and imitated her look in the video back then.
I remember this video resurrecting the trend for cowboy and Western-era fashion.
This was nomine for best video of the year in the Grammy, criative and experimental song and video,a great masterwork

How great is this song and video??? love it. great dancing. never a dull moment with her.

I litterally had this song on MP3 only. Those were already post-napster years.
Beautiful strings.. was such a unique song back then
Always loved this song 😍
One of her BESTEST songs!
i really love the strings at the end
Loved “Don’t Tell Me” and the chillout vibe about it.
With this track and also album she was trying to say that country music can be electronic and electronic can be romantic too so she did it , you get music that’s electronic yet romantic with a county twang 😊

Love you guys!!! You have made day!! Love your reaction!! "DONT TELL ME" IS A MASTERPIECE 💜👑
What even if they didn’t really like it and won’t be playing it again? 😆
One of her best! I really love this choreo and I remember when I was a kid, my teens causins tried to make this a lot in front of tv haha

Love this song and the music video! 10 out 10!
✌🏻😉✌🏻
Y’all need to react to the title track from the album that Don’t Tell Me came from: Music! This was her digital cowgirl era!
Timeless! One of Madonna's best albums.
Loving you guys
Madonna
Queen
Number One
41 years and counting
Loving your Madonna journey guys - she never fails to surprise with something you’re not expecting (bit like Abba in a way 😝) definitely recommend La Isla Bonita, Deeper and Deeper and Live to tell. Much love from the UK!
React to some of her LIVE performances 😍💕
A great song. It was very popular
Madonna always experiments new songs and news productions and bring new soundes . That’s why she is what she is! She is definitely not a copy cat. ❤
This song has 3 genre of music maybe four pop, rnb, country, with a hiphop feel this is why it's a brilliant song this is what u guys is missing about the song madonna is a genius at mixing different genre of music in one song

There is no one like Madonna in the music biz... No one

One of her best video
The Last part is the best, the cowboy falling from the horse
The live performance from drowned world is mesmerizing
Amazing video, brilliant song
Great Reaction! Glad you liked it! This song and video is one of my Mo Faves and I was inspired by the music and soundtrack featured in the movie 'Brokeback Mountain' that was hot about the same time. Listen to the music and videos from the movie to compare.
This song is a mood/vibe. Sometimes I really feel it and sometimes no.
Would love to see you guys react to Madonna’s “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” official music video. It’s from the 1996 movie Evita. Madonna won the Golden Globe for best actress for the performance 🙏
Definitely one of her best music videos. You should check out the live version from The Drowned World Tour.
One of my fav videos from M. She looked so damn good. 😍
Ahead of everyone 🙌
Great song choice 👌
I just have to say I had the exact shirt Marissa is wearing in 1991!
You guys need a dry erase board for ranking your Madonna songs 😆
I like your reaction, the girl speachless and the dude blushing and can't stop smiling. Because this song and this album is pretty much that. React to all her CONFESSIONS TOUR!
This song sounds like someone mixed pop, country, and dubstep in a bowl. Would like to see you two do a reaction video to dubstep music, like Skrillex's remix of "Cinema".
Lyrically, I think the song sums up Madonna's attitude to people who (now, much more than then) tell her to just stop now and go home.
This is my daily driving music
It's really surprising when you realize that she filmed this video just after giving birth to her son
Now, take a sharp turn and do What It Feels Like For A Girl, from the same album.
Next 'Paradise (not for me)'
OK. I'm scrolling thru your past Madonna videos and I can't find a reaction to "Into the Groove".

Do “ deeper and deeper “ or “ American life , directors cut “
She create the concept of Pop cow girl 🐂
Y’all should do some Paul McCartney. Check out the song Band on the Run 😉. You won’t regret it.
It’s experimental and leads perfectly into paradise not for me
nice
React to What it feels like for a girl 😍
Agree, but only if they listen to the album version first, then react to the video. I fear the video on it's own would throw their GenZ heads for a loop.
Please react to the title song ‘Music’ from this album , thanks guys
This song is a lot better than ghosttown. Madonna when she was making HUGE hits.
Oh just wait, you want experimental and glitchy? I can’t wait…
American life is coming!

I thinks that is because she is studyng music
@@teralmiles making the "UA-cam reactor" faces. "😲"
Pleaaseeeeeee react to Madonna Impressive Instant
ahha is this a song about daylight savings?! omg lol
Funny. This song was a massive hit in the day. But gen Z has been exposed to music directly influenced by this song and its producers, so they hear this and don’t see what’s new or interesting about it😂
React to "Bedtime Story" live from the 1995 Brit Awards 🥰

Madonna s comercial pepsi 1989
They don’t give any introduction!!
Can you react to the argentinian band Soda Stereo? your channel will explode with comments and subscribers. I promise you.
Sorry ....... open your heart
She did the country first.. all the artists today copy her template
I have watched 15-20 of your videos. The other person you have with you never shows any emotion, never disagrees with you, never says anything meaningful, why are they there? You should be doing these videos on your own.
Oh these kids keep reacting to the queen after disrespecting her in human nature video
yep! wont stop either! :)
i like this guy reaction, but the girl always looks bored and unimpressed, you can see she's trying to hard to act that's she's like it.
I guess she doesn't feel the groove
Its the type of MADONNA song I dont really care (although very well produced)
I prefer IMPRESSIVE INSTANT from this album
You guys are great
Do I remember from with honors soundtrack was at 2 for six weeks one of her best vocals
Do this used to be my playground some people she layered her voice like karen carpenter from movie à league of their own beuatiful ballad 1 song
