Quick trick that's worked since DMC3: Jump Block. If you block while still in the middle of the i-frames of a jump, you can more easily do Royal Blocks since you're technically blocking the moment the attack would connect. Same principle applies to a Jump Release.
Okay then. Let's first break it down on how jumping and blocking works. In DMC, you are fully invincible during the rising part of your jump (up to when you start falling). This makes it a great defensive tool for repositioning and dodging thanks to having a lot of invincibility. You can say that while jumping, an attack is just going right through you as if you aren't there at all. Note that you are only invincible up until you start falling, or start doing something else like Attacking. As described in the video, Royal Block occurs when you block right as an attack is supposed to hit you. Royal Blocks raise your DT meter, but are really difficult to do because of how close to the attack hitting you that you have to block. Jump blocking exploits the fact that you can go straight from the invincibility of a jump straight into blocking. So let's say you react to an enemy attack and jump to avoid it. You probably have seen times when the enemy's arm or weapon is right in your character's model but isn't hurting you because you're invincible at that moment. If you were to block at that same moment, you'll immediately transition from being invincible to a blocking state. Because you're no long rising from the jump, you aren't invincible anymore. However, because you've gone straight into blocking while the attack should hit you, it counts it as if you've blocked at the perfect time and gives you a Royal Block.
Noob DMC player here. DMC3 and 4 I've never even touched Royal Guard. DMC5 I tried my hand on it for the first time ever. By complete accident I finished off Vergil with a Royal Release and insta SSS. It was hilarious.
Seijass yeah they made it a lot more fun to use because it's more useful for well everything it's more user-friendly it's Parry window is a little bigger and to top it off you have double trigger no chipping damage if you mess up in my personal opinion it's the best generation of royal guard welcome to the Royal Guard
Huy Mai Van I was thinking about melee combo attacks, never even thought about using it on projectiles, they're easily blocked for the most part (except when Griffon revs up his gatling gun without any warning).
ppl hate DMC2 but it's so funny if you DT right before you're supposed to die you get Shin DT and just end whatever it is that was going to kill you LOL
I really love your tutorials but something REALLY important about royal guard you forgot to mention is that it builds devil trigger *even if youre in DT*. this means if youre good enough with royal guard you can essentially stay in devil trigger mode forever. Might wanna add that to the description or as a pinned comment.

I'm slowly learning how to use this considering that every time I've tried to learn it, I end up failing miserably at doing so. dmc3 being prime suspect as I couldn't grasp how it worked. Royal Guard was amazing in DMC3. Well...everything about that game was. Just making my way through 5 right now, great game too. Finally getting to control Dante.
you know a game's difficulty is FAIR when you need a youtube video tutorial to learn how to master it. Remember devil may cry on ps2? no internet to help that time....ah...good times.
There is nothing in this video that wasn't explained in the game. There is a menu dedicated to explain royal guard. -Companies used to make deal with guides and magazines making some games almost impossible to finish without them. -On the ps2 Era people where already searching for cheat codes and solutions. -Games had booklet explaining all the mechanics ans sometimes even more. Without them, some games where just "guess the secret mechnanics". (Shout out to baldur's gate) -Complexe games are fucking cool.
specifically for royal block, when you press block, if an attack hits you in the six physics frames(100 milliseconds) after you block, it will be a royal block. you always need to block BEFORE the attack hits you.
Having only seen the opening monologue as of this comment, I can already tell it's the same logic as dodging in dark souls. The window of opportunity may be a bit more limited, but once you get it down you'll find it's vastly superior to your defensive alternative.

It was really fun in my first play through to quickly switch between styles in the battle against Urizen. Trickster to get close and dodge, royal guard for ranged attacks and sword for when he is stunned. I finished the fight with a royal release. It was pretty damn cool
it may seem overwhelming at first with all the styles and devil breakers, but then you have to realize it's 5 games worth of mechanics, some legacy controls like the tight bumper being the aim button and the stances came in at DMC3.
I activated DT and used RG to sustain the DT form (against vergil of course) just to see how long I could keep it up and I made about 6 mins. I'm not the best at this game but I love the RG and DT duet
This is a great video for new players who are tryna get use to RoyalGuard, as much DMC veterans this is very much an important asset to Dante when tryna build the Style meter and being adept at any enemy in the game! Great job @DevilNeverCry
Cheers for this tutorial. I remember playing DMC3, and Royal guard wasn't that good in DMC3, either I wasn't good at using RG in DMC3, or I loved using Quicksilver/Swordmaster style so much. And also in DMC3 Playstation 2 version, you can only equip one style in that game. I heard on Steam version DMC3, you can switch styles on the go, but I don't think its worth purchasing DMC3 a 2nd time for 1 small improvement. Looks like I have to practice RG in DMC5, because I haven't started "Son of Sparda" or "Must Die" modes yet! Also, I am very surprised Quicksilver and Doppleganger hasn't returned in DMC5, then again, Vergil kind of has doppleganger as his level 1 DT.
so that's what that mode does. i knew it can be used for blocking, but I sure as hell don't remember the tutorials telling you about royal release and royal revenge, i had no idea what that gauge was for.
Royal Guard Timing is BEFORE an attack hits you. Just a few frames but it doesn't need to be in the same frame. If you have played Muramasa on Fury Mode the opposite is true. You must hit "it" after the attack hits you, still just a few frames window.
If you think about it royal guard is similar to armament haki. At least the version used by Rayleigh when he was showcasing it to Luffy as an introduction to his 2 year training.
Really cool vod. It will also be great if you can add applications(outside void) at the end. RG is pretty good in Cavalier Angelo and Vergil fight. R.Revenge is great for fury.

That satisfying sound of royal block..i love it
Royal release + Dt explosion in 3 is how you destroy vergil
I plan on buying DMC5 soon, so these videos keep me up to date and hyped for when I eventually get it. Please keep making more tutorials! Very useful and informative, can't wait to die a whole bunch of times while practicing Royal Guard!
Get sekiro I barely play dmc5 and I barely played the other dmcs but on the hardest difficulty I beat this game way too fast
Break breakdown and I never used this. Definitely a positive learning curb to this.
I learned royalguard because I wanted the "who needs weapons" achievement, then I tried doing Vergil with it, it felt so good, I wish I didn't overlook it in previous games, it almost makes me want to go back to dmc3 and do a royalguard only run
Why did you bully caveillier angelo like that
Vergil's Judgement Cut VS Dante's Royal Guard is literally unstoppable force meets immovable object
Me: (confesses feelings towards crush)
Crush: I think we’re better as friends.
Also me: ROYALGUARD!!!
‘You won’t be immediately good at this’ *laughs in Sekiro*
*Daigo Umahara wants to know your location*
Dante got that Tiger Drop on lock
he actually invented it
_Bosses nervous sweat_
You save me with that tutorials, i suffer so much without the tutorials You made
Glad they help
(Shout out to baldur's gate)
-Complexe games are fucking cool.
specifically for royal block, when you press block, if an attack hits you in the six physics frames(100 milliseconds) after you block, it will be a royal block. you always need to block BEFORE the attack hits you.
Really want to learn i literally just use sword master the whole time ever since dmc 3 kinda stuck lol
Having only seen the opening monologue as of this comment, I can already tell it's the same logic as dodging in dark souls. The window of opportunity may be a bit more limited, but once you get it down you'll find it's vastly superior to your defensive alternative.
Basically if you use Royal Guard style you turn into Meliodas
But i think royal guard came first so yeah meliodas turned into dante
Cause 7 deadly sins take place in 2012 and royal guard was in dmc 3, dmc3 was in 2005
Big dick energy mode
Funny you say that. Mundus in the DMC V manga honestly looks a bit like the Demon King.
Villain: I have slumbered for a million years, slowly gaining the strength from the souls of my sacrificial cult. My weapons have been forged in the heart of a black hole and I have conquered empire after empire.
Dante: *Holds circle*
UI Goku: "This is the power of Ultra Instinct. In this form, you don't stand a chance agai..."
Dante: "ROYAL GUARD!"
UI Goku: "Royal wha..."
Smash announcer: "K.O"
Kinda sad they didn't keep dreadnaught mode from DMC4
bird what was that
Saul Hernnadez Now, look. There was a special bar that gave you complete invincibility when filling up. Moreover, its design was cool as fuck.
Well they added Sin Devil Trigger, keeping Dreadnaught would mean Dante has three Devil Forms to change to which is some hardcore shit.
@@saulhernnadez9203 do you play cod? If so think of a juggernaut with dark demonic form
DNC: Why should use Royal Guard?
Memers in the DMC comunit: CONTENT
Lovin your vids from what I’ve seen so far...!
Got more friends comin over these days so I’m trying to make my DMCV gameplay look more Flashy, and these are helping out a lot...!
It was really fun in my first play through to quickly switch between styles in the battle against Urizen. Trickster to get close and dodge, royal guard for ranged attacks and sword for when he is stunned. I finished the fight with a royal release. It was pretty damn cool
Imagine Dreadnaught switching to Swordmaster and going Sin DT
You'd be unstoppable
I don't have any pc or console but I'll still watch this
When I played the game for first time I didn’t even know you could hold it so I always tried to time it
Small boost? That shit goes through roof on perfect parries.
I got the hang of it by the 3rd mission with Dante, it made the Final boss battle super fun for me
it may seem overwhelming at first with all the styles and devil breakers, but then you have to realize it's 5 games worth of mechanics, some legacy controls like the tight bumper being the aim button and the stances came in at DMC3.
Favorite style for me in DMC 5 but I miss dreadnaught in DMC 4.
aizadlove me too even tho I really only liked it for the cool aesthetic
H.G. Useless but cool, would’ve loved it only for photo mode
@@IIARROWS It's a scythe, not a sickle.
Trickster makes you feel like an anime character
Royal guard makes you feel like the boss
The ideal way to block enemy attacks and deliver DEVASTATING counterattacks.
Thanks cry i barely knew anything about royal guard other than block and release
Shoulda noted that it's also useful to help gain SDT since RG helps build up DT relatively easily
I thought blocking with royal giard decreases the dt bar?
@@pingaspearce9403 it does but if you learn to RG well it's guarantee one bar for perfect block
I activated DT and used RG to sustain the DT form (against vergil of course) just to see how long I could keep it up and I made about 6 mins. I'm not the best at this game but I love the RG and DT duet
Way better than Juggernaut from DMC4 for the last skill. Royal Revenge is very useful since you can choose to use it when necessary.
You my friend have just earned a new subscriber👍
Dante: "putting his arms up and clenching his ass"
Game: "THATS STYLISH AS HELL"
I didnt use RG my entire first playthrough. Had no idea how it worked, didnt even realize I had to hold block lol.
Not gonna lie before watching this I never used the royal guard so thnx this should help me with the bloody Palace
so that's what that mode does.
i knew it can be used for blocking, but I sure as hell don't remember the tutorials telling you about royal release and royal revenge, i had no idea what that gauge was for.
The royal flush is the most badass move in the game.
Thanks bro, keen it up with the tutorials videos 🌹
Really cool vod. It will also be great if you can add applications(outside void) at the end. RG is pretty good in Cavalier Angelo and Vergil fight. R.Revenge is great for fury.
I NEVER EVER KNEW YOU JUST HELD THE BLOCK BUTTON. I THOUGHT YOU HAD TO TAP THE MOMENT THEY ATTACKED.
