DMD really highlights the biggest problem with Dmc3: Half of the enemies suck and the other half are variations of the same enemy
My favorite part of Dante must die mode, is when Dante said "it's dying time," then died all over the place.
Vergil 3 on DMD feels like one of those optional super bosses except he’s mandatory
My biggest problem with 5's DMD is that there is no warning whatsoever when an enemy is gonna pop their DT. In 4 it felt way more like a justified punishment for not paying attention to the enemies. As if the game was telling you "hey you better deal with this guy before he becomes a REAL big problem"
The big issue with DMD is that it's clearly designed around the hyper-aggressive, old school arcade principles of DMC1 but dropped into games that absolutely weren't made to be played like that. I think a better DMD for the current style of games would give enemies massive damage resistance that fades away as you style up, forcing you to puzzle out a stylish way to handle each encounter.
just imagine DMC3 DMD Corrupted Super Vergil

DMC 5 has a system you didn't mention. It's the aggressiveness system, which makes all the enemies become more aggressive (They attack more often) when you increment difficulty. It also aplies for bosses, where on dmd bosses make more complex combos

Vergil 3 DMD on DMC3 is probably one of the hardest bosses I've ever fought. He really keeps on your toes at all times. This is the only mode where he used summoned swords which changes the battle completely. I don't use items btw like many other people in the DMC community so having to defeat him without any healing is pretty challenging.
I actually think that DMC1 is one of the beat examples of Difficulty scaling of all time. New mechanics, new enemies and varied enemy placements all change. I fucking love it
I went through DMC 1 on normal 20 times in a row just to do DMD mode. You can never be too prepared.
Masterful creation, I will be playing every Devil May Cry game in the hardest difficulty now.
Since you didn't cover DmC, I'd like to bring up something legitimately cool that it does with its enemy Devil Trigger. When enemies pop DT, they gain insane hyper armor and health like expected, but certain moves in Dante's kit can ignore the armor or even outright remove the enemy DT. Off the top of my head:
Personally son of sparda in DMC5 is my favorite difficulty. In DMD enemies just become destiny raid bosses
I like 4's version with Virgil, enemies don't vaporize on contact as much
Honestly it is probably the one where Dante actually dies
This was a great review of the 4 main DMC games hardest difficulty! I always found it weird that they never made a devil may cry 2
For the record, DMD in DMC2 make’s the second to final boss has all his heads attacking you at the same time
