When he said the parry was tight, i didn’t think it was *that* tight the enemies weapon literally has to be in your mouth before you get a perfect parry
Trickster is my favourite due to its versatility; You can avoid taking damage outright far more easily than with normal dodge or Royal Guard, increased manoeuvrability all around, letting you scale walls, air dash and teleport, as well as allowing you to be generally faster on ground, and with greater manoeuvrability comes greater combo variety as well. I think it generally makes the game more enjoyable in most situations.
true but RG’s release is god-tier when you wanna deal big damage and a perfect parry can stop beowulf’s pounce attack and stun him enough to hit you. pair that with Cerberus’ revolver and you have one hell of a beowulf stun advantage
@@theastroguy7417 While a full release’s damage is good, spamming the Agni and Rudra aerial for ridiculous damage is also good, and far safer. Less work, similar pay off, plus everything I mentioned in the OG comment. Trickster is my favorite style personally. Not cause it makes me play the best but because it just feels cooler to use. I love being able to attack enemies finish one off and instantly be able to teleport to the next one. I don't even really use it that much to dodge attacks It's so much funner to use it to extend your own attacks and play more aggressive.
Thanks, this helped me better understand Royal guard, when I first picked up the game, I thought it only blocked and didn't do damage, so I neglected it. But now that I see it's full potential, I'll be sure to pick up that style.
I was confused on what the parry was even supposed to do. I spent like 10 minutes in the agni and rudra fight because I believed getting a perfect block was supposed to knock their weapons away so I kept thinking I was doing it wrong lmao

I knew jump buffering rg, but I didnt know it counted as a perfect block every time. I thought you still had I frames and thus just didnt get staggered
You were basically right from how I understand it. The I frames directly transition into RG Frames with the first one (probably first few) being a perfect guard. If you know an attack will be active while you are in the middle of invincibility, switching to a RoyalGuard block should be perfect. Waifu and others probably know more about the frame data, but this is how it should work.
If you jump and block at the right moment, as long as the enemy's weapon is inside your hitbox, you don't have to time a block perfectly to get a perfect guard anymore, which is what he was trying to say.
The mistake that i did during Royal guard was not pressing the style button hard enough. We should hold down firmly the style button not to tap it like in Sekiro's deflect.
You can do tapping if you got the timing down. However it may be difficult because royal guard animation is quick if tapped hence, buffers are useful such as jumping/dodging/attacking or even by mashing the style button. The problem sometimes with holding the style button is the block break which is more dangerous than just taking damage, plus there are cases of accidental release.

Trickster its really fun and simple
So I've been binge watching some of your videos for awhile now. I'm still relatively new to the DMC series, I've been playing DMC3 for about 4 months at this point and generally play it (as well as 4 and 5) in an aggressive and offensive style, usually I go with Swordmaster to extend combos or Trickster for more mobility. However, I'm interested in using more Royal Guard and play in a more defensive style. This video helped me get more insight in how to get better at the style. However, what advice would you give for somebody who generally plays offensively to try a more defensive style?
Just use royal gaurd to play offensive it’s way more fun, because of the animation cancels you can play much faster than other styles
