    I think one thing people need to remember is that Vergil (even in the cutscene before the final boss fight) acknowledges Nero's new power (saying "This is... curious", "what form of power is this?", "interesting"). If there is ONE THING that Vergil is usually spot on about, it's about the measure of power. Sure, Vergil was tentative about it (likely due to his own ego) but he still recognizes it.

    great video for nero. he's downplayed a lot more than he deserves. glad you didn't lean into him "defeating" vergil by himself at the end of 5. since it's heavily implied that vergil was testing nero's strength and the gameplay itself even reflects it as he was no where near as aggressive in his fight with nero as he was with dante in the previous mission. i think nero is definitely in the same ball park as dante and vergil. but i don't think he could defeat either of them in a 1v1 if they were actually trying to kill him.

    A little known fact is why nero's arm was stuck in his devil trigger state: since he didnt have full control over it, after his right arm got injured his demonic abilities tried to heal it, but it simultaneously was destroying it. I feel like Nero represents raw talent while Dante and Vergil each represent different ways of growing stronger through hard work. Dante could be summed up as the master of a thousand weapons while Vergil mastered a single weapon a thousand times, so to speak.
    Nero differs from his father and uncle in that his strength doesn't seem to be skill based, but rather appears to be a potential that exists inside of him that is drawn out through sheer force of will, allowing him to perform incredible feats through desire and motivation. Effectively, what it looks like is that the stronger his emotions are, the greater the feats he can accomplish. It's unclear whether certain emotions are more potent than others, or if it's just emotion in general that fuels him. He does generally seem to default to drawing out a sort of controlled anger as his preferred combat state, savagely and crudely attacking enemies like a berserker while still being focused enough to crack one liners similar to Dante's.

    • @madladdie7069
      @madladdie7069 Рік тому +17

      To be fair, Dante himself has a ton of raw talent. Nero's more about power and power alone. He can surpass Dante on strength (or well he could if Dante* didn't absorb the power of a local deity) but he'll never be the guy who masters a weapon immediately after picking it up.

      @@madladdie7069 Sorry for the late reply, just noticed that there were replies while scrolling through some of my old comments.
      I should probably clarify, when I refer to Nero seeming to be more about raw talent, I'm strictly comparing him to Dante and Vergil, and not Dante and/or Vergil to ordinary humans. That is to say, yes, Dante for example does have a lot of native talent compared to any ordinary human, but his growth as a powerhouse is (with exception to unlocking and enhancing his DT form) linked to his skill far more than any physical growth. The clearest way of seeing this is by comparing Dante in DMC3 to his DMC4 and 5 counterparts. His skill as a fighter has grown tremendously from his origin days as a rookie demon hunter just setting up shop for the first time.
      Nero on the other hand doesn't seem to rely on growing his skill, but rather becomes a powerhouse due to a combination of emotion and raw talent alone. He doesn't seem to gain much power from hard work, but rather always seems to grow stronger due to absorbing artifacts into his arm (such as the Yamato) and/or experiencing powerful bursts of emotion. This might even be why his attacks are so crude and lacking in precision; He's unconcerned with technique and relies more on just general raw power, with his most reliable means of drawing it out being through a controlled rage.

    • @madladdie7069
      @madladdie7069 Рік тому +4

      @@Crow_Rising That's fair. I'm of the same opinion. Though I don't think Nero's crudeness comes from a lack of concern.
      He either doesn't or believes he doesn't have the skill to handle things in any other way than brute force which is what he excels at. Unlike Dante who probably could have outperformed Nero at first but chooses not to, Nero has to rely on his strength alone.
      Though this doesn't really apply in 5 given how Nero's outclassing pre-SDT Dante now and there it's probably force of habit (or just the threat just being that much more deadly).

    • @Crow_Rising
      @Crow_Rising Рік тому +1

      @@madladdie7069 Out-of-universe, my speculation as to why Nero's attacks are so crude and imprecise is because he's meant to be something of a middle ground between Dante and Vergil. Like Vergil, he's very focused on drawing out huge amounts of power to defeat his enemies. However, unlike Vergil his usage of this power is very brutish and lacking in elegance. Meanwhile, like Dante he gets a thrill out of the whole thing, enjoying the rush of combat and getting caught up in the moment.
      In-universe, my speculation is it could have to do with him being the grandson of Sparda. While Dante and Vergil are Sparda's direct progeny, each being half demons, Nero is three fourths human. As such, it could be that his usage of his demon powers is much more limited than it is for his father and uncle. This could be why he needs to rely on powerful emotions and absorbing magical artifacts to draw out more power. Natively, even with Sparda of all demons as his grandfather, he just doesn't have as large of a pool to draw power from as Dante and Vergil do.

  • @TheBitingBat
    @TheBitingBat Рік тому +207

    An interesting sidenote is that with Nero being just as strong as Sparda, Dante and Vergil implies that demonic heritage doesn't get diluted by generational gaps, which makes sense as demons tend to get stronger from human blood rather than weaker. This could also potentially point to all of Sparda's descendants being able to tap into massive demonic power

    So having a heart that's capable of loving another person is a source of immense strength in-verse. On-top of the human blood theory.

With more experience and possibly unlocking his own Sin DT, he could be the most powerful character in Devil May Cry seeing as he was more powerful than Dante before from DMC4 at the same age Dante was in DMC3. Which all really puts into perspective of just how powerful Nero will become when he hits his 30s onward if he keeps on progressing like this.
    And finally, this brings up a theory of mine...maybe the Sparda brothers aren't so strong because of their Demonic blood enhancing their human bodies, but instead their Human souls enhancing their Demonic power? I mean, Dante and Vergil are half human, and yet they are stronger than Sparda, and Nero is three fourths human and is stronger than a Dante in his 30s at the age of 19.

    *Short version/Conclusion at the end*
    This video draw my attention back to my personal problem with powerscaling specially in anime based eastern media:
    It's not about being unrealistic, but just mad uncomprehendable.
    From Dragon Ball, to Bleach, to Bayonetta, to DMC, the feats and powers are BEYOND what the writters themselves can even grasp, but they add those anyway for the sake of showing how "incredibly powerful" the character is supposed to be. This style of writting makes the plot and feats "problematic" at best, where they either become inconsistent, or outright contradicts themselves and common sense, as they writters only understand the basic concept, but clearly cannot comprehend/visibly imagine the full amount of forces, they are trying to portray.
    It makes audiences like myself enjoy the content at bedt, when we actively AVOID to see it we with common sense.
    If you ever watched or read Dragon Ball devates, then you'd surely understand where I'm coming from. There clear differences between the powerscaling of something like DBZ, Bleach, Jujutsu K and JJBA, to let's say Beserk, Baki, or Gintama. I would put shows like OP, Naruto, MHA and Fire Froce somewhere in the middleground.
    In Conclusion:
    *Anime-based media have a trope of depicting/including feats far beyond the comprehension of their audience and writters, creating both inconsistencies and doubts in the credibilities of their plots because of that.*
    Thanks for reading 🤙

      A respectable opinion, but upon closer inspection there are aspects of this argument which come across as logically fallacious and unfortunately renders your argument as this in its entirety. Chief amongst them which I'll be addressing is the automatic assumption that fiction must be 1-1 enough with reality in its power scaling as an ironclad rule in writing for the sake of our suspension of disbelief as though planet destroyers are anymore absurd then all the other super powers and such in fiction. I mean when you get down to the science and especially if you don't have a religious predisposition then things like souls, non physical entities, etc. that you see in dag Casper the Friendly Ghost should be driving you crazy, but it doesn't. Heck Homelander from the boys breaks so many laws of physics you wouldn't believe with the obvious being a man of his height and weight generating forces strong enough to pummel through buildings. Or we can go to Deadpool and his ability to spontaneously generate new cells which would require absurd amounts of activation energy that'd burn a hole in the ground. In either case, it really comes down to how far your suspension of disbelief goes and how much you can handle the well, *fictional* attributes of fiction cause a person can range from handling what you'd call absurdity to balking at fiction in general for portraying fictional events as is because it's just not *realistic enough*. Just my two cents on your take and given the examples I provided above your issue shouldn't just be with Japanese media, but fictional media as a whole by your own logic as American comics are quite guilty of what you accuse Japanese media of being to cite some obvious examples (i.e. Omniman, Superman, etc.).
      All in all I must reiterate that I respect your opinion. However, it is not one which can't be pushed back against.

      And that is why there is something called *_lore_* in fiction (ALL fiction).
      There's this manhwa called Tower Of God, one of the very first things introduced is the concept of Shinsu existing on every floor, and the higher one climbs the more pressure they feel (a twist on gravity and oceanic pressure).
      So while you keep reading, you know for a fact that every floor is filled to the brim with basically an ocean of shinsu, so when you SEE a fish seemingly FLYING, you understand fully that the "logic" behind this is that Shinsu exists everywhere in the tower so it's a fish that evolved to "swim" in shinsu.
      This is all to say that *_pre-established lore_* plays an important role in the audience being able fully comprehend and digest what they're seeing in a fictional world no matter how unrealistic and absurd.
      It doesn't even NEED to be something grand, even human level characters need to be consistent with the lore for said fiction to make sense. (you mentioned Baki)
      It's not about _suspending your disbelief_ for the story, it's about understanding that it IS fiction. The story is either good despite the absurdity OR it's bad regardless. example; "Avengers: Infinity War" was great but "Ant-Man: Quantumania" is trash, both absurdly unrealistic but clearly, the "rules" are defined to where comprehension is possible.
      Anyway, how is Baki more forgiving than One Piece, and how is One Piece more forgiving than Bleach? I'd like to hear how you rationalize this, because from where I'm standing, they're all fiction... absurd in their own ways just as they are unique in their own ways.
      I don't think splitting the sky with haki is more absurd than stopping an earthquake with a punch (prove me wrong tho)

The Customization shows the Demonic Arm in DT is for the logo of Devil Bringer because just looks, same as Punchline for Devil Breaker instead of an Arm we don't see but wouldn't make sense or be what fans want since they wouldn't know or see it outside of being a logo.

It would stand to reason that any child of Vergil will have mutated to be far more powerful than him since power is his strongest desire.

    I love that someone is finally giving my boi the credit he deserves. I think to most people, its pretty obvious in mission 20 Vergil isn't trying to outright kill nero, but the thing everyone forgets is Nero isn't trying to kill him either! Nero explicitly says he doesn't want anyone else dying, and even though Vergil probably isn't trying to kill him, he still wants to win. Vergil stated that since he knocked Dante out with a sucker punch, that if he beats Nero he beats Dante, so he was taking the fight seriously and he still lost! Am I saying Nero beats Dante or Vergil in the 1v1, probably not. But he's younger with vastly less experience and is already popping off. DMC and Redgrave are in good hands with Nero keeping watch.

    A few days ago i watched a video on how strong Vergil is and it said that how he and Dante was so strong could theoretically because of his human blood
    The Qliphoth fruit is made from blood of humans and is the ONLY physical manifested item to give demon extreme power, so imagine Vergil/Dante, who has PURE demon blood flowing with HUMAN blood. The mix would basically give them immeasurable power and that is only when they're 50/50 hybrid
    So now think of Nero, who is 1/4 DEMON and 3/4 HUMAN
    HIS POWER HAS A HUGE CHANCE TO SURPASS BOTH VERGIL AND DANTE IF HE HAD THE COMBAT EXPERIENCE AND A PROPER WEAPON/DEVIL ARM

  • @travon4924

    What is there to explain? Even though Vergil was weakened he entered his Sin DT multiple times (which is said to be universal if we’re power scaling…) against Nero who only had a regular DT which only scales to planetary or higher. Vergil wasn’t holding back since vergil literally told Dante that if he were to beat Nero that would mean he would win by default. Some say he was holding back which was highly doubtful since he cares about Nero just as much as he cares about Dante and that’s excluding the rivalry.

      Nero's strength and power is coming from the power of his grandfather in him, he's more like Sparda so has more access and we see that his raw power is on par with Mundus such as what we see with Dante in 1 and Vergil is on par with Mundus thanks to the fruit and not being like his father is why his power he has from him is not accessible much.

    People misunderstood Nero's fundamental demonic power: he can recall the power he's absorbed. Hell, he can recall the power of the Yamato through Showdown and could absorb Devil Breakers despite the new limb.

    The only thing I would complain about Nero is his Sword competing with other Devil Arms. True it was made by Agnus who is an impressive alchemist or whatever he does in The Order still kinda weird it can compete with other Devil Arms in terms of sheer killing potential against demons although the codex for dmc5 did state that the sword itself is so hard to control due to the engine that Nero is probably the only one who can use it and that's pretty badass for a technically Man-Made weapon

    Keep in mind nero isn't anywhere near his prime and hasn't fully progressed yet as far as demonic power goes,yet he held his own in fights against Dante as a teenager and in dmc 5 he alone can stop the charging assault of both dante and Vergil in devil trigger
    And Nero only just fully developed his devil trigger for the first time
    So yeah Nero despite being young has already more or less caught up to his dad and uncle who are both op as shit,and he still has room to grow considering Dante and Vergil were both still getting stronger in 5 despite being kind of old

    I think an interesting note for Nero is, unlike Vergil or Dante who have the rebellion and Yamato that unlocks their power, the Yamato releasing it automatically over time I assume and the rebellion requiring Dante to be stabbed to unlock it, Nero essentially has to unlock his power through sheer will. Which shows on top of everything, his potential through his resolve alone.

    • @xenowarrior282
      @xenowarrior282 Рік тому +3

      Nero is way above dmc1 Dante.
      In dmc4, Nero with Yamato was able to make dmc4 Dante actually pant from exhaustion and even state in the novels that he wasn't pulling his punches.
      This already debunks what you've said, as dmc2 Dante, who is weaker than dmc4 Dante was able to effortlessly kill Void Mundus and Argosax. Both of them are way stronger than Mundus from dmc1. And yet, a stronger Dante still struggled with Nero.
      Then dmc5 Nero come along and makes your statement even more invalid. In mission 8 (so not even full power DT Nero) was able to destroy Urizen's crystal in under an hour.
      Doesn't sound like much, until you realize dmc5 prologue Dante spent an entire day fighting Urizen and didn't destroy the crystal once. And that was a Urizen who was still fresh from being split and wasn't blood boosted. The Urizen Nero fought was after an entire month of being blood boosted.
      So dmc5 mission 8 Nero is stronger than dmc5 prologue Dante. Dmc1 Dante gets one shotted by Nero. It doesn't matter that dmc5 is "dmc3 for Nero" because he shows explicit feats for being way stronger than you think he is.

      @@xenowarrior282 You couldbe a little nicer but I see. I hear about the novels but I have no idea where to read them. I would disagree about the Mission 8 Nero vs Prologue Dante though. Nero was motivated, which is a big boost in this series as I'm sure you know.
      The reason I said DMC1 Dante is because the only time Nero fought Urizen without the shield, he got his ass kicked hard, even with motivation. They said Urizen is stronger than Mundus and Argosax and everyone else, so I assumed Nero would be on their level. It's a little complicated when he has his Devil Trigger though...

    I have a theory that the reason for Nero’s exponential growth in comparison to his father and uncle is strongly tied to his genetics.
    I mean think about it. We know demons gain power from consuming human blood, which is the precipice for Mundus’s and Urizen’s strength, but without it they sort of slow down if not stagnate.
    Vergil, Dante, and Nero were probably lucky to be born and born the way they are because they maintained their demon heritage but have human genes to feed their demonic parts, essentially causing a stable constant increase of their power even if they don’t train (or at least make it difficult to lose the strengths they’ve gained if they’ve been slacking off).
    Now the difference I’m trying to discuss is the difference in ratio between the Sparda brothers and Nero.
    That is, that Nero does get stronger because his genes allow more human blood to fuel a smaller amount of demon gene, making it more effective and efficient in growth than Dante and Vergil.
    For essentially, Nero has overall more “Human Resources” to feed his demonic genes by 1.5x over the Sparda brothers, whilst he doesn’t have to worry about potentially stretching his blood as thin as the Sparda brothers because his demonic parts are half the size of theirs.

    I think the fact alone that "Demons get stronger with Human Blood" here, points to the potential of what if a Human has a tiny bit spark of Demonic bloodline in them? Wouldn't it empower them even more? Surely that there's a optimal level of Demon & Human Mix, that empowers them. I mean what if a Demon Blood that is running through a Demi-Human's that gets empowered with the Half-Human or even more Human blood?

    Something else that probably makes Nero stronger is that he has people to protect, *personally*. Kyrie and the three kids they’re raising together are who Nero is truly fighting for at the end of the day, while Dante and Vergil don’t really fight for anyone specific, and more-so just to make a living or just because they can. Like a true anime protagonist…
    his love is his power.
