I just found out sponges come from the ocean. smh. That just cracks me up. I wonder how much bigger the ocean would be if that didn't happen. eh 😏

Nice Video. I got a UV/IR 45W extension bar for my light and i'm just testing it. During Veg, it was active for 20hrs/day and it caused terpene activation in veg week 1. I think it also caused stress, because one plant hermed. I cleaned her up and she's now a outdoor plant. She recovered from that and looks fine. During bloom, i reread the manual from manufacturer and it says cycles of 8 to 10hrs/day. Now i follow the instruction and wait for the result in four weeks or something. If the buds are more dense and packed, i might give it another try. I dont have a another setup to compare how it is without this bar. Will take time and the rating could be subjective.

UV was debunked 50+ years ago. Bruce Bugbee video released yesterday on Athena's yt channel reiterated the original study and is posting their new study. There's no evidence of cannabinoid increase, and there never was. Also, think of IR as heat. You were likely frying the surface of your leaves from that spectrum.

I've been saying for a while that red diodes are a waste. Flowers don't care about color. They only want intensity. Red diodes are only for cost effectiveness. A white 2800k diode at capacity will outperform a 660nm red at capacity.

Thank You Chris!! Thank You Shane!!
I use supplementary far red (690mn) emitters in my flower tent, they run for an hour at the beginning and end of my light period, with half that hour being in the light period with my main white array half lit, and a half hour into darkness/before main lights come on. Mimics sunset and sunrise. This shortened my flower times by 2-3 days, and dropped my total wH used per day. I did a number of controlled experiments on this between 2020 and 2023, and while I did find some increase in stretch, I've found I can also start the flower cycle 2 or 3 days earlier and the stretch just lets me fill out the tent easier, and the extra spacing ends up being a benefit as the overall buds get more light and airflow on slightly stretchier branches, but the net gain is 5 fewer days between the time I cut the clone and the time I harvest, which means I get nearly a half extra crop every year, the downside is YES, branches frequently need support, especially during the last two weeks while the resin stacks up, but that little extra work is worth it IMHO - especially if I can save 5-6 days of electricity and water per nugget smoked. Further: Far Red emitters will not be worth it unless your environment is otherwise ideal - they won't do squat if your VPD is whack, or uM per square foot is weak - and thus for most craft growers your resources will be better spent if you focus on ideal VPD and light intensity before screwing with advanced toys like far red emitters.
Worth noting some (MOST) "far red" emitters on the market are 660 nm which isn't really far red - it's just red - and the 660 nm LEDs will not produce the same benefits as one would see with actual 690nm far red light, but it will make your flowering plants stretch a LOT. Conclusion: Running far red all day long is an absolute waste of electricity, but genuine far red light at the beginning and end of day period can have major benefits.

Stretch is not the only side effect of FR. FR throws off the phytochrome equilibrium delaying flowering. Add enough FR and watch an 8 week flower turn into a larphy 12week flower that never wants to finish properly. Hortilux had a Ceramic HPS that has more FR than anything out there. It's a total failure for these types of flowers.
And BTW Shane doesn't grow our kind of flowers.
Would you buy a set of golf clubs from a guy at the sporting goods store that never played golf before?
