      He's selling ePar meters now and in a few years he'll change his mind re: UVB and Apogee will offer meters that measure the full range of Photobiologically Active Radiation (PbAR). 780nm is the lowest frequency of PbAR and 280 nm is the highest frequency.(The definition is that PbAR is the bands of frequencies that trigger and/or energize beneficial photo/phytochemical reactions.)

    Thanks for this. I really like to see things broken down into their separate, quantified components. It lends clarity. I'm no stoner, I've battled PTSD for years, with limited results. I finally decided to try Cannabis, after getting a medicinal license. I have not slept so good in over a decade. It seems to eliminate my dreams, which I have had ONE good one in 15 years. I now intend to grow it along side our Hibiscus and Sugar Cane. I love the science behind it. Great job. Thanks again.

    Like many of the other commentators, I also would love to see this made into a series of video seminars on plant physiology led by Dr. Bugbee.
    Since dialing in those parameters increases the amount of light these plants can use, and it would only build more renown and good will towards the Apogee brand, I would make the argument that developing this into a series would increase revenues for your company.
    Might we expect further videos along these lines?
    Glad to have the very informative video description. Not many channels use that section to full effect.

Still managed to get them nice and dense but iv never ever seen a plant refuse to stretch like that b4! Thinking i might veg with them about 3ft 4ft away next time in the hope they stretch normally again lol never seen plants so short and dense ther like solid balls i mainlined topped and fimmed them several times though too so getting countless tops, i dont use a net but its kinda sog/scrog style just all verticals and budsites spread over the whole available area :) teach me to trust the internet in this day n age lol! Also tried n auto cos i was in a rush last time on internet advice they are "faster" 8weeks they said! Well thats BS too took 12 or 14! Was woody stemmed and rubbish even tho i did the recommended single tie down method and i coulda finished a normal one faster ffs! Wud hav been 10x nicer then too lol bloody advise everywhere is tellin amateurs to buy autos cos ther easier! Biggest lie ever way easier to set a timer!

    And still the answer is
    “Get to work!”
    Always been a case of any and all light must be put to work immediately and kept working constantly.
    Where this research comes into play is with the development of new technology, and that new technology is still not justified by the good old retail cost / agricultural benefit ratio...
    So again any old timer will tell you what you need to know.
    “Get to work!”

    Great video and super instructive. I learned a lot. I've got a few questions though:
    1. Is there a graph that you can link to that shows the PPFD curve for different vegetables and what their optimal PPFD would be? I'm thinking of collard, kale, spinach, cayenne, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.
    2. You mentioned that lettuce is done at 500 PPFD. But for how many hours a day? For example, if it was 12 hours per day that would be 21.6 DLI (daily light integral), and if it's 18 hours it would be 32.4 DLI. Do you have a link to graphs that show the required DLI (which seems more important than PPFD since it measures total daily light) for different vegetables?
    3. If I wanted to lower my costs, and go with a less powerful light, like the first one you showed which was providing 300 PPFD at 1ft, and just run it for more hours in the day to increase the DLI, what is the minimum amount of rest/dark time required for vegetables so they stay healthy? I'm assuming I can't run it 24x7 as the plants need some down time.

    • @josephcoon5809
      @josephcoon5809 2 роки тому

      3. C3 plants don’t need down time. C4 plants do. C4 plants store CO2 during dark hours which allows it to retain more water by limiting how much the stomata opens.
      Plants that live in extreme conditions, like arid climates, are C4 type plants.

    • @robertmartin2262
      @robertmartin2262 Рік тому

      In other words cannabis grows just fine 24hrs a day, you could give it 8 hours of rest once every week if you realy wanted. I find that in veg, they grow so much I end up chopping parts of just to keep them small enough for my tent, remember they triple in size once they go into flowering if you have a decent lights, such as 1200 watts, I use a 600watt hps plus 3 x 200 watt LEDS. Means I can switch off the HPS on hot summer days, and get extra fast growth the rest of the time, plus use a parrafin heater for the co2, youll not regret it as long as yoy keep VPD below 2.2 most of the time, and below 1.4 at night.

    Great video, thank you! I must say there is still much debate to be had on the issue of spectral impacts to cannabinoid content. I suspect FR:R ratios may play a larger role than overall "PAR" spectrum. I welcome the day we start quantifying based on total radiation biologically utilized in the plant.
    We need more educators to reach out through platforms like this... I can say my Apogee SP-420 is within arm's reach and has become one of the most useful tools even around the house. Absolutely essential in horticultural consulting to have a meter from Apogee or LiCor

    • @leeadickes7235

    • @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517
      @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517 3 роки тому +1

      That's incorrect. UV-B output on CMH is laughable because UV-B is blocked by glass. It's about 1/10 of a sun which is not enough. You need UV-B (mercury) bulbs to get some real output.
