How much LED watts per square foot for seedlings? To mimick the not much sun from early spring. For a veg garden.
And same question for late spring when the sun is a bit stronger?
So 30 watts per square feet is summer?
I think I'm burning my seedlings. My lights don't have dimmers.
And are the wattages per square foot are the same on while grow lights and non white grow lights.

150W per square foot for HPS. 250W per square foot for LEDs.
Autos never yield well and use way too much electricity and are pointless to grow indoors. They are always less potent as well and not as fast as the 'CLAIMS' suggest.
If you are not getting 0.85 - 1.25 grams per watt then you are not doing it properly. That should be easily possible with 2-3 weeks veg.
I have personally seen Autos go to 130 days which is longer than regular indica strains. There is no advantage at all to growing Autos indoors at all.

It's about using all the canopy space. You can do that say in a 4' 4' with one big plant or 5 small plants or 9 smaller plants.
More plants less vegging time. As long as the canopy is filling the area nicely it doesn't matter.

In my experience, a minimum of 5 weeks in veg is ideal. The plants seem to show a truer phenotypical expression when I allow them to naturally reach sexual maturity before I flip to flower.
Most of the autos I've grown take that long to start really flowering also.

A trick to veg out one photoperiod and harvest during the veg is to stick one photoperiod with a bunch of staggered autoflowers. While the photoperiod veg's out to fill the 4x4 you harvest the autoflowers as they ready to clear up more room for the photoperiod. You might have to take plants out to free up space so need another area to finish an auto or two off every now and then. By the time you harvest the last auto you should have a photoperiod that's taking up the entire space once trained out.

I agree these numbers are more or less valid.
Some people prefer to go sea of green with alot more plants (clones) and get done in 12-14 weeks max with each run.
For the simple reason of squeezing in one more grow per year.
The average yield is pretty much the same.
    Let's say:
Guy #1 uses a Scrog (screen of green) setup (harvests twice a year so 2x750g in ~32 weeks)
Guy #2 uses a SOG (sea of green) setup (harvests three times a year so 3x500g in ~32 weeks)
As for watering, that can become very tricky in a SCROG especially if you don't wanna involve any pumps at all.
Also, yes it can become pretty annoying as well if ure growing with the SOG method, when temps are on the hotter side and the plants want a watering every 2 days.
But to each his own. peace!

@@geo_neo9 that's great your discussing water...
I agree totally and have started my own water treatment methods for our drinking water.
This is my first time growing so totally green... But l am keen on EVERYTHING being around natures code and as far removed from toxins as possible. Nutritionally rich living soil, clean water, natural sunlight where possible, and a natural environment around birds, bees and... so my theory is playing recordings of nature's sounds can only be beneficial too, and not detrimental? 🤔
I am sure many have tried the living soils and l imagine once in an enclosed tent the pests can hatch and be trapped in, and problems persist from there?
I have 4 auto's growing in home made nutritional compost and thus far been outside 24/7 for close to a couple of months. Thus far they are thriving and any bugs that may have landed have a tiny nibble and depart as in true gardening. With enough nutrients the plant makes eating it difficult for bugs. Their job is to clear decay, so any decay should be removed asap so they don't hang around...
My aim is to move them into a 4 x 4 tent to finish off. Am l destined for problems?
My concerns are from an organic mindset nearly everything is genetically modified, from strains to feeding artificial nutrition... so is it possible to be more organic in an artificial environment?

I’m currently in a 2x4, using 2x3 of the space for a 7-gallon cloth pot. Second grow in this setup. First time I had 2 plants in 2 gallon plastic pots, and I harvested roughly 98-103 grams of dry weight. I’ve trained the next lady similarly, just in a much larger pot. Her 8-10 main colas have been tied out to the sides and the center of the plant is going crazy now! She’s in week 5 of flower and she’s still stacking. I’ve had to turn the light down from the 1300 PPFD to around Shane’s 800 micro moles/PPFD . She’s no longer showing symptoms of light stress. It’s really crucial to have your growth chamber dialed in. My VPD was off, so I was getting some signs of stress. I dimmed back the lights to 68% 75%, roughly, and increased extraction fan speed as well as increased the humidity a tad. Soil ph is 6.33, and I continue to feed her with silica, CalMag, liquid bone meal, calcium and a .5ml/gallon of 0-1-0 carbon. Ph of 6.4-6.8. All of the nutrients are bioavailable, while the plant is immersed in living soil. Hopefully I’ll get closer to 6+ ounces. A half pound would be wonderful but, I just need to keep her doing her thing.

Pretty much what I surmised after buying a few lights. I have a 150 watt light for two plants in a 2x3, a 300 for 1 square meter 42 inch by 36 inch and also 489 watts for another square meter. All are producing dense bud. Then I joined the two tents with both lights and I get some over lap in the middle for less reflective walls..

This is my second grow. First time was indoor all cococoir. The yield was decent. Now on my second grow, I did indoor and outdoor. My outdoors grew extra large and wide. Buds everywhere on both plants. 4th week of flower and the smell outside is ridiculously aromatic.. the 4 plants I have indoors now didn’t yield as much as the two outside which are still a few weeks away from harvest.. I used raised beds soil in a hole I dug in the ground and filled the bottom with dry and green material and fresh alfalfa plants. Then dumped the soil in the hole. It became living soil with worms and the whole nine. The yield looks to be over 1.lbs on both plants combined. It’s not about the medium it’s about the skills you have as a gardener/grower.
I was a gardener before I started growing!..

I've given up on indoor growing it was barely worth it before but now with the hike in energy costs I think it'll be cheaper to stick to my dealer lol
Sticking to seasonal outdoor grows now, the sun is best and its free. Its just not all year round for the type of crops I produce.. If you know what I mean ;)

@Johndoe Yea problem is mate, we no longer live in the 90s when the cost of electric wasent even a part of your monthly spend.
It costs more to grow a plant than it costs to buy that equivilent weight in bud from a dealer, without the hassle of growing it, without waiting, without trimming and curing, so whats the point? Unless you getting a kilo per plant your at a loss.
Seasonal outdoor grows is where its at now.
Thanks to the greedy energy sector, nobodys going to be growing jack shit for a hobby with an indoor setup under artificial light.
      Thats my problem.

I guarantee the people who say 3-4grams per watt are not accounting for the power used for AC / heating / dehumidification . When running CO2 in a closed system you will be able to pull more per sqm but the cost of power will even out your gpw. Then they figure they are getting 3gpw with their lights when in reality it’s only 1.5.

I´m quite happy with my resoults, got 4 Dark Devils Auto in 20L buckets (filled to 17-18L) on slightly too smal drip trays giving me an additional 3cm to grow the roots in hydro (just have to make sure there´s always some water down in the driptray) in a 80x80cm tent. For light I got 4 Vipaspectra P600, soil is selfmade and I´m getting outdoor yield for this strain; officially outdoor yield is 150-180gr per plant, I´m getting 150-210gr per plant in my too smal tent, since I´m using low stress. And obviously thats dry yield, wet after harvest it´s 1kg+ per plant (sclaed it once out of curiosity).

As a beginner (second grow) I tried 6 autoflowers in 5gal pots in a 4x4 tent with 480w LED. I trained the plants quite a lot and I achieved great coverage. Half way through the grow I chose to switch to CO2 (with the hanging bags). Why not?, it was winter and the temps would be around 30 degree at night inside the "air tight" tent, no need for heating :D. I had the dehumidifier inside and the inline fan would suck air from the floor and release it at the top of the tent.BIG MISTAKE! Even though my plants loved the heat and grew like monsters my dehumidifier couldn't handle the amount of humidity. I didn't defoliate the autos not to stress them so there was a lot of density. I ended up with bud rot on 5 of the plants and had to throw some monster buds right in the bin :( The only plant that survived was a Gorilla Glue that finished 2 weeks early. I should've noticed the yellow leaves coming out the buds were not due to the "flush" -.- Lesson learned

    • @MIGROLIGHT
      @MIGROLIGHT  2 роки тому +4

yes the plants love high humidity as they are less stressed but it comes with risk to the crop. Better to stay at about 50 to 60% humidity in the second half of flowering.

I use a 2x4 foot tent and mainly only ran 2 plants in 5 gallon pots. I would get around 14-16oz dry. Since I started making my own seeds, I've been running 8 plants in 2 gallon pots, 1 per sqft. and yielding slightly more but half the veg time and much easier to fill the space. For sea of green grows, 1 plant per sqft. can be pretty efficient with the downside of having to water 2x per day in flower.

This works for me , and that said, it may work for others. I keep the led and hps about ten inches from the canopy and the cfls as side lighting at the corners about 3 inches away. Everything is adjustable for differences as the plants fill the space. Temps are a constant 74 to 80 f and humidity is kept high (60 to 90 rh) in veg, then reduced to 50-65 late veg to early flower, then dropped as low as 35 to 45 in flower aiming for as low as possible the last few weeks.

My current theory on yield (photos, in coco) is that however many litres per day a plant needs tells you how many ounces that plant will give you. 2 litres per day equals approx 2 oz, 2 litres every other day is 1 oz, 2 litres twice per week is half a zed, 4 litres is 4 oz for example. This method is just a rough idea but seems to be fairly representative from my own experience. Currently still on HiD so when I change to led we'll see if it still stands true but as a very simple guide it should give you a reasonable idea I believe

    • @talboyovGY
      @talboyovGY Рік тому +1

@craigyboy4770 actually it isn't bs however it is over simplified. There is definitely a relationship. Basically if a plant doesn't take much watering it's yield will be terrible and if it drinks like an alcoholic then it'll reward you well.

    • @gotohellfast
      @gotohellfast Рік тому

@talboyovGY ,you are right, it's a bit simplified but correct! More roots = Plant drinks more = more yield. Plants with a poor root system "drink" less = less yield. Basically , the thirst of a plant indicates her root development.

I agree with you on that 9 auto flowering plant is right for that space. Yes, it could be said that I need more than 250w, but the IR and UV lights seem to add a lot. That/s going to struggle to get high PPFD in a 4x4. You will need to hang it higher to open up it's spread, which will lower the PPFD at the canopy quite considerably. Like shane said in the Video, 30 watts a foot = 480W.

I have a pb4000 and a pb2000 in a 4x5. Its pretty much perfect at 500 watts if I run at 100%. Which I really don't need to. Those are the PB4000 pro and the PB2000 pro(Maxsisun). I get really even coverage with those. I have a PB1000 pro in a 2.2. I just leave that one mounted to the top and just use the dimmer for whats inside of it. I also built a drying rack out of wire rack shelves. I black plasticized the inside and just move it where the coldest place in the house is. Ofc, it has a humidifier in it. One of those digital ones.

I purchased the Array 750 recently. Nice lights, and with the remote drivers, well, that's a huge plus for small areas. Plan to place them outside of a tent because they do put out a good amount of heat. Mine are in my room because that's how it's set up, but I'm planning to do some rewiring to get them outside before getting too far along with an upcoming grow. Best!

I really enjoyed the video, one thing I would like to add is the plants need a very even light spread, and I agree the environment needs be really good, I have designed and built my own grow light from Led bulbs and I really like the results(about £40 each, covers a 2ft x 2ft), I am growing in soil but I mix my own soil up using dry nutes from my local garden center, I don't agree about hydro yielding more than soil because that depends on the soil mix, a good soil mix should be very light and sandy, most compost is full of bark/twigs and its too heavy,( I always look at the total cost per crop and crop size/quality)
you can away spend more but whats the return for your money and whats the risk things can go wrong?
most perpetual growers will find a really good plant that ticks all the boxes, take clones and keep them small for 8-10 weeks(punning them into the perfect shape, 8-10 tops, per 2ft2) , plants in veg need less than half the light, say 350par and less than 1/5 of the flower room size, pot the plants up and give them a week in the flower room before flipping them over to flower, taking clone just before flowering the plants off.
So the overall cost of growing in soil vs hydro makes soil more cost effective as you don't need a mother plant and the extra space it takes up, equipment and all the other expenses, soil is also more stable, less things can go wrong as hydro can be hit and miss.

problem is he isn't really growing in soil.
A sterilized bag of Plagron or other big box store mix, does not make soil.
      Soil is ALIVE.
I grow soil, then the soil grows the plants.

Hydro works better for me, a lot less mess and work actually, after mixing and carrying around soil. Managing a reservoir is a cake walk

Cloning when there's a small young bud is the go . Takes two weeks extra but you get ten to twenty branches to start with in stead of one.

I have grown in most the systems, hydro can get very messy if the pipes leak and for me it was too often, but hydro is great if everything is idled in.

Monster cropping clones is OK but there a trade off if the canopy too full, you end up with loads of long twigs with little to no bud, if every main shoot has 6-10" of space to grow, most plants will give you long thick cola's come harvest.
