    keep these coming, i'm really interested in grabbing an NA to start wrenching on with a family friend that has a v8 swapped NA, looking to do low boost for now and really wanted to get more of a mental hold on how mega squirt's software was like. This helped me get the ball rolling, thanks!

    Thanks for these videos man. There really useful and very detailed. Very helpful to me I'm doing a turbocharged NB mx5 and I've been slowly buying parts until I have everything I need I was confused about what engine management to use but after loads of research on forums and websites I've decided mega squirt these videos helped me make up my mind. I imagine the installs will be similar very slight differences as mine is a NB. Thanks again.

    This might help a few people out when setting up the IAT. My tubing was cast, and it was tough to find some to install the IAT bung due to lack of a proper welder. Instead I chose the method here to use the 9/16 drill bit on drill press then used the NPT tap as recommended. The helpful part is Homedepot, Lowes, and Pep-Boys all didnt have the size recommended in the video. I went to Harbor Freight for the press, the bits, and tap kit (assuming you dont have one). That got the job done, and this video was super helpful. Cheers!

    I gotta thank you, this and your wideband install video were the two biggest helps I had when installing a wideband and an MS3 in my 1994 Miata w/ AC.
    For anyone else who may be wondering how you "combine" these two videos (if you're trying to install both at once), when it comes to the new wideband sensor, I wired my wideband's digital output through a CAN module and inputted that into the options plug on my ECU AND also wired the analog wideband output into the stock O2 plug (aka, also to the new ECU, through the stock harness). This was on the advice of an experienced engine builder/spec miata builder I've been working with.
    Also, for cars with air conditioning, the grommets he uses in the video are not available, and there's a lot of equipment mounted behind the glovebox door, but I still successfully drilled a new hole through the firewall and routed the MAP line through a grommet in the new hole (when you remove the glovebox door, there's a space where you can fit your hand over and between the A/C components and reach the firewall...that's the safe space to drill, as high as you can, to get up and over the rubber matting and sound deadening that lines the interior of the firewall).
    Lastly, on 1994+ cars, the ECU is not in the passenger footwell, but is mounted on the bulkhead behind the passenger seat. It doesn't change the install very much, you'll just need to plan on a few extra feet of vacuum line.
    Thanks again TheCarPassionChannel, and keep it up!

    Awesome video man, very clear and concise way of getting up and running. Suggestions for the next video would be the wideband install, covering the wiring, the calibration, the fitments and if you have the resources to do so, fitting the AFR gauge. You've left me very inspired and now just need to find somebody to do a swap for my RX8. Anyone interested? A 1.8 mk1 mx5 for a '08 rx8 with 15,000 on the clock? No?? Anyway! Thanks again, its been echoed in other comments that your channel due to content and your presentation could end up with many subscribers. Looking forward to your next video :)

    Hi from germany! If you are running 95 octane fuel in your Miata, you can put youtär Ignition timing to 14 degrees before tdc. There will be no knocking or uncontolled auto ignition by the fuel. I tried it up to 16 degrees before tdc and still no knocking. I put it back to 14 degrees, so there is no stress for the engine. It runs a bit better with this setup. Most of the Mx5 enthusiasts in germany are running it at 14 degrees. Nice vids man. I watch it every week.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  9 років тому

      Fuelfoxx Thanks for watching! Many people here in the U.S. set their CAS to 14 degrees here as well, even though we only have 91 or 93 octane depending on the state. When you adjust your CAS you're setting your idle timing, but you shift your whole timing map even on a stock ECU. So if your stock timing is 10 degrees, you may be at 28 degrees at full throttle, 32 degrees while cruising, etc. But when you clock your CAS to be 14 degrees at idle, you're now 32 degrees at full throttle and 36 degrees cruising. (These are just examples I'm not sure exactly what the stock map looks like) so it may be better in some areas and worse in others. But since you're only talking about a few degrees, it will likely be beneficial everywhere, since the stock map is designed to run on 87 octane (at least here in the U.S.).

      yossi126 But isn't it part of the MAF? Even though their MAF has better flow than the AFM of the 1.6, you can still remove it and convert to MAP. It makes it easier to get creative with your intake routing and not worry about where you're going to place the MAF.

    @TheCarPassionChannel alright so got a day 2 question for you: where do you go to learn specific stuff? Megasquirt docs are pretty thin, not very deep, nor very car specific. Tuner Studio docs seem nonexistent. Searching forums always comes up with random other people's cars/setups and not basic info about what the settings actually do and what the concepts are.
    If you were wondering "what does XYZ setting actually do?" what would you do? And when searching, what keywords do you usually add in to get to the right type of content for Miata+MegaSquirt+TunerStudio? I thought I was good with Google, but damn...

    Great video man, Its nice to see someone actually show it rather than just reading it and assuming a few things. I would love to see a wideband video, or at least more explanation on how you wired it into your MS and if your gauge is straight off the wideband or from your MS. Im guessing its its getting its data from MS.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  9 років тому

      Joseph Conley I may not do a wideband video for a while, but hopefully I can answer your question. A wideband o2 is a standalone system. You can install just a wideband by itself in the car and it will function just fine. Widebands have a signal wire that comes from the gauge in most cases, which is just a wire that outputs what the gauge is seeing. That wire goes into MS. So Megasquirt is getting its data from the wideband. That's why you need a wideband to have Megasquirt, otherwise you'll have no idea what your AFR's are.

    • @JosephConley0
      @JosephConley0 9 років тому

      TheCarPassionChannel I understand that, and to my understanding some widebands have multiple wires out. I was curious how yours was currently wired. Wideband -> MS -> Gauge? Either way, your videos have been very informative.

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  9 років тому

      Joseph Conley My wideband (Innovate MTX-L) is a self contained unit. The sensor and gauge are all one package, you can hook your laptop up to the gauge itself to set preferences. The gauge then has 2 output wires, a narrowband and a wideband output. You just connect the wideband output to MS and you're rolling!

    I love your videos man! I can read thru forums all day and although helpful, watching videos just helps that much more. So the question. How satisfied are you at that power level? I'm in the process of boosting with an FMII kit. The thing that kills me is the ~250wtq upper limit of the rods. So 230 or so is safe. I'm thinking about new forged rods, rings and bearings to run up to ~275. What do you think?

    • @TheCarPassionChannel
      @TheCarPassionChannel  9 років тому +1

      Dukepgh I would say just boost your stock engine first and see how you like it! It's really going to cost an extra $3000 to properly build an engine. Have you ever driven a boosted Miata as a reference? I'm at 236whp/215wtq and it's so freaking fun! It keeps up with 2015 5.0 Mustangs (450bhp) so it's no slouch. I also autocross it so I need to keep the spool fast and not use too big of a turbo anyways, I'm actually changing the turbo this weekend to something that spools a little faster. I switched to E85 so I'm hoping I can get into the 235whp/225wtq range still. You're going to be so happy with the car even at the 230whp level, and maybe you can just start building an engine on the side and take your time with it.

    thanks for sharing this great video, I'm Japanese and there's basically no informative one in Japanese. watching a movie is way quicker and better to understand than reading tons.

    Thanks for your videos, very informative, but I'm the person that always have the difficult questions.
    Everything that you explain is understandable but I'm primarily looking for the way the megasquirt 2 v3.0… is connected to drive coil packs with stock igniters can you touch on that.
    Can you provide a screen shot of the ignition wheel decoder section.
    If this is hard to understand. Maybe I'll give you my specific question.

    I also would like a basic video on the next step after all your basic stuff is configured, could you make a step by step video for setting a fuel map, then how to adding timing in?

    Hi, i'm in the process of buying an MS2 for my 1990, i have a question for the IAT sensor placement. I read all over the internet that IAT sensors are prone to heatsoak, especially if mounted in hot places. Isn't the air in the back of the radiator too hot? Have you ever had problems with heatsoak?
    Thank you!

I've read to ignore it but doesnt seem quite right. after cranking 1-2 seconds, the ecu cuts the fuel. what am i doing wrong??? it's a MS2 PNP with 3.4.0 firmware

    just had a question i thought that since the car was turbocharged the ignition had to be at like 6 or 8 degrees but you have it at 10. Thanks

    Can you please tell me how you keep the car running with the AFM disconnected? We have to jump the fuel pump pin and ground pin in the diagnostic in order to keep Miata running? What is the walk around for that?

    Amazing video thank you for your sharing your experience with us.
    How many models mega square ecu, what the difference between.
    For normal use not performance only to upgrade old ignition and fuel system for more reliable like.
    D jetronic system mercedes v8.
    Because no more parts available and not cheap to restore all systems.
    What the easy ecu can used to upgrade this kind of system if not mega square, if I go for Ms ecu which model the best to my project.
    Waiting any help or guide.
    Best regards,

    Greg, 1995 1.8 installed the MSPNP, IAT so the stock air box is gone. Cone filter replacement.
    Started the car, it idles for a minute, and then dies out. MTXL AFR reading 10.3, I do have the wideband sensor in as well.. ignition timing is 10, but it stutters along with the engine... any pointers?
    Will VE Live help even out the idle?
