    OMG thank you so much for making this video! You're the only one talking about this online. I searched everywhere for a tip or a useful information about this problem, and I felt so alone. Now thanks to you I know that I'm not the only one suffering from soreness when riding, but you also helped with a great information on how to solve this problem. The bike industry only cares about men. Thank you again for the video!

    This a wonderful video. I introduced my wife to cycling. Having ridden for 25 years I knew how to set up her bike correctly including getting a woman’s saddle. Happy days. But no, she was getting labial lesions on longer rides. I searched online but it was very disappointing. I asked a female rider, who admitted that she too gets occasional soreness but she said she just lives with it and was not saying more than “soreness down there’. Then I found this video. We watched it and she was totally absorbed by your honest and specific delivery. We are in America and Americans are very reserved, almost prudish so your ‘matter of fact’ delivery is refreshing and reassuring. We’ve got a ISM on order ;)

      @deblordoutdoors5783  11 місяців тому

      Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. I hope it works for you. In the end, I didn’t keep the ISM as I found that due to my less aggressive, more upright position for gravel riding, it ended up being a bit too wide. I know a female road cyclist who found it a great saddle through in that more stretched out position. If your wife doesn’t find this solves the problem, and you’re able to get a bike fit (if you haven’t already), it’s definitely worth doing that as saddle problems are very often the result of an incorrect riding position. The final thing to consider, again, if you haven’t already, is to invest in a really good quality’s pair of bib shorts.
      Wishing your wife happy, comfortable riding! Thanks again for the comment☺️

      @deblordoutdoors5783  10 місяців тому +1

      @williamfwoods I really do need to do an update. I’d say definitely make sure she has some well fitting, good quality shorts. Depending on climate and distance, chamois cream can definitely help, and if still uncomfortable, look as riding position. If the bike fit looks right and there’s no numbness in the hands, it definitely could be the saddle. Unfortunately, because women’s anatomy comes in so many different proportions, recommending a saddle that works for everyone is tricky. I’ll make it my aim to update this video in the next week or so. Thanks for stopping by. ☺️

    Same issues, same struggle! The chafing when I ride more than 15 miles is my ONLY limiting factor! I have customized my saddles for many years, to remove more padding, but it is not adequate. No
    bike short, lubricant, or even band-aids solve this problem. Post menopausal women have thinning of the tissue, and muscle, skin is loose, so things are squishy. UGH. I have a ISM saddle being sent as a demo, fingers crossed! Your video really was sort on! I will never stop riding!

      I’m so sorry you’re having such discomfort. I’ve found that changing my riding position had also helped. I installed a longer stem which I guess has distributed my weight across my 3 points of contact more evenly and it’s definitely helped. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you find some relief. It’s a really interesting point you raise about changes to our bodies in menopause. I’m not quite there yet but it’s something I’m going to look into and see if I can find any useful information to share.

      Thanks for your feedback. I did actually find the ISM saddle uncomfortable in the end for my more upright position on gravel, and after altering my bike fit and getting some better bibs, I have far fewer problems on longer rides. If you don’t already have at least one really good quality pair of shorts/tights, I’d look at starting there and also considering a pressure relief channel/cutout in your saddle if you don’t already have one. ☺️

I put a longer stem on and have tweaked my saddle height and found I’m much more comfortable. If you have money that you are considering spending on an expensive saddle, you may very well get more bang from your buck spending it on a proper bike fit. Good luck and hope you find comfort soon! ☺️

      Thanks for your comment. You may have seen in my other replies in the comments that I actually went back to the Bontrager saddle in the end as my position as a gravel rider is not aggressive enough to get the benefit of the split nosed saddle. What I did do was play around with my saddle height, saddle tilt, fore and aft position, and also stem length. If you take a multitool on rides and continue to make micro adjustments of just a few mm at a time, you might find your sweet spot. Failing that, it may really be worth consulting a professional bike fitter. Best of luck and hope you find some comfort.

      Thanks for checking out the video. I’m sorry you’re having issues, and definitely try a range of saddles if you can get them cheaply and sell them on if they’re no good, but I actually ended up ditching the ISM saddle as my less aggressive riding position as a gravel cyclist meant the saddle was too wide and chafed after a while. (The ISM saddles are really designed for TT riders in a super-aero position). If you don’t already follow Francis Cade on UA-cam, check out his videos with bike fit James. There’s loads of useful info about getting your fit right, and you might find a solution before spending more on a new saddle. Best of luck☺️

    Thank you so much for sharing! I found a saddle I really get on with for my full suspension mtb. It actually came with it. 😊 However, it only feels great with bibs and the “sticky” surface of this saddle destroys my bibs a little. I still wish this saddle would work for me on my gravel bike but it doesn’t. Now I’m experimenting with 4 different saddles. The one I really liked didn’t really feel that great on a long ride, after 45 kilometers. 😢 One of the four is a power mimic. Great for climbing and putting power down but I’m not sure if it’s it… It’s not easy for us women. ❤

I can do 40+ miles off-road and feel okay, and 30 on the road and start to get sore in the crotch, hands, and shoulders. We need more women designing and testing saddles and we’d soon get a resolution! ☺️

    I don't have a vagina unfortunately but I've also struggled to find comfort when riding outdoor and indoor. If it helps, it may be worth looking at ISM saddles as they are noseless or "open" they aren't the lightest of saddles but personally I'd take the comfort over weight savings with the miles I do. I also invested in a 0 offset seat post and shorter stem so I'm more upright and pelvis rotated vertically rather than forward. Benefit to this is that I was better fitted on my sit bones and that relieved pressure on my soft tissue. I had to measure the width of my sitbones and contact ISM customer support but Dave Bunce was super helpful and he also does the instructional videos on UA-cam which I used to set the saddle up.

I actually found that I went back to the Bontrager saddle and once I’d adjusted my overall position properly (including fitting a longer stem), I managed to get much more comfortable. I’d suggest watching Bike Fit James’ videos and try and improve your overall bike fit as saddle discomfort is about bike position and decent padded shorts 99% of the time rather than the actual saddle itself. i'd never considered women having vaginal saddle problems

    • @deblordoutdoors5783
      @deblordoutdoors5783  Рік тому +1

      It’s more the labia. Like men, we come in a variety of sizes in that area and a lot of products were designed only with men in mind. Unlike men, who can lift some of their soft tissue out of the firing line, women are perched on ours the whole time, so that can lead to a lot of pressure, friction, inflammation, and even nerve damage. Saddles with pressure relief channels are ideal, but getting the right size and shape cutout isn’t always easy.

    I read in the previous comments that you’ve gone back to your original saddle recently. Can you comment as to why? I was about to order the split nose saddle to try, but now wondering if I should just stay the course with my current road bike solid-seat saddle. Thanks!

    • @deblordoutdoors5783
      @deblordoutdoors5783  Рік тому +1

      If you’ve got the opportunity to try one, it might be worth it. For me, I ride gravel almost exclusively and I’m not in an aggressive enough position for the noseless saddle to be effective. I found it was just too broad at the top of my thighs and was rubbing. You may find it works for you though, especially if you’re a roadie and more aero than upright. The saddle I currently use has a pressure relief cut out. I can’t tolerate a saddle without. It’s definitely worth considering if your current saddle supports your sit bones though and whether you’re in a position where your weight is sitting to the back. I found strengthening my core supported me holding myself up better to stop me falling into my shoulders and stop me letting my pelvis tilt around so that my soft tissue (labia, clitoris etc) was supporting my weight. It’s worth having an assessment of your position throughout your rides and seeing if any of those things could be the cause or adding to the issue.

      Aw, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t want to teach you to suck eggs, but if you haven’t already, make sure you have padded shorts as they make a difference, and when you’ve not done a lot of riding for a while, it can take a little bit of time to acclimatise to the saddle. Another thing to consider is the height of your saddle. If too high, that can cause pain too. If it’s pain in the actual butt, rather than genitals, it should be fairly easy to resolve. Genital pain can be trickier, but with the right position, you should be able to get comfortable. I hope you don’t give up!

    I'm almost 60 years old and was not yet aware of the names and locations of all of my lady parts.
    Crazy that somehow in my culture I got the message that parts of me where taboo or bad to be aware of and talk about.
    I googled it and referred to the diagram as you wrre talking.
    When I first looked at the diagram a spark of some old thought felt like I am seeing somthing we dont look at but within seconds it just became something matter of fact.
    Strange that something half the people on planet earth have has been treated as taboo, so poorly embraced or known.
    Thank you for using the correct names.
    Now I see these parts as something that has always been there and there is nothing to make such a big deal over, yeah it's there, it is what it is. I love understanding the reason each of the parts are there and seeing the incredible design and purpose for each part of the system that serves my life on my body.
