Saddle pain for women - updated video
Переглядів 80810 місяців тому
Several years ago I made a video about saddle pain experienced by people assigned female at birth- essentially, anyone with a vagina, labia, and clitoris. I was tired of trying to find info to help me resolve my own pain, only to be met with articles and videos full of euphemisms, which was no use to me for identifying whether I was experiencing what they were describing. Since making that vide...

Just a wander while I watch the sunset over East Stoke in Newark and Sherwood, the historic site of the Battle of Stoke field in 1487. Just a bit of a waffle on my part, so apologies if it’s a bit self-indulgent and you decide to sack it off, ha ha!

I debated whether or not to post this which I made on holiday about 3 weeks ago. Perhaps not high on the entertainment scale but part of vlogging is for my own enjoyment, making a diary of some of where I’ve been, how I’ve felt, and what I’ve seen. If you enjoy it too, that’s great. Starting point was The Waterfront Inn at West Stockwith. There are a number of walks along the River Trent, River...

Out for an 8-miler with Becca back in the beautiful Peak District. Parking up at Burbage Bridge, we headed along the path below Burbage Rocks and through Longshaw Estate, down to Padley Gorge, then back via Higger Tor. Great walk and not too difficult under foot after all the rain👍🏼

Finally got back out after a month off the bike. Got the road bike fixed and went for a short spin, then the next day went to the British Cycling’s finale in the crit series in my home town of Newark. Rode the circuit on the community ride out, then watched the Elite women’s and Men’s races.

Great video and a very impressive mileage 👏 It's always good to see the chuckle sisters out with the ensuing banter 😁 I had to laugh at the 9:04 scene, opening with Becca's head peeping above the bush. I misread the situation and expected your arm to reach out and pass her a roll of Andrex ... im pretty new to cycling, and as well as labial soreness you describe, I was getting clitoral pain and an 'unexplained' bout of cycsitis! Cystitis for Cyclists! 😢.. so I vowed to search out womens saddles, I wanted to find a saddle made BY women FOR women, before I commit... but yes, online research seemed like a very good idea before forking out hundreds of pounds for a bike saddle (when my bike is worth peanuts! I used to live next door to a bike shop and they literally gave it to me for free... ! I think someone bought a new bike, didnt know what to do with the old one, and just left it behind with them!).. Im wondering if you have trialled the ISM Metro saddle, which looks similar to the ISM one you try out here, but with a much fatter bottom area. I dont have a particularly large bum, but I know that a large saddle can be more comfy... have you tried these ones at all? best wishes, and THANK YOU for making a very sensible understandable video about womens saddles (for people with vaginas!) 👍🙏🏻🌟🧡🧡🧡

The Border hills are not spectacular (like many Highland hills), but they are never boring. There is always something different to see, depending on season, weather..... and mood. If you have a fascination for "boob hills", there are also the "Maiden's paps" about 10-15 miles South of Hawick... :-) I walk a lot in the hills to the South of Hawick. Along the old railway track, into the forests towards Newcastleton. Occasionally across the Border, into Kielder, but only briefly as there are more restrictions on places to camp and wander. I no longer have a passport.... why would I bother when I have Scotland's hills on my doorstep?

Unfortunately I have to debunk the title of your video, because this isn't weather peculiar only to Great Britain, I live in Berlin, Germany and the weather here has been exactly the same, as it always is, because this is just weather typical for Northern Europe, because it's all the same weather systems - Germans are even more disparaging about it, and as soon as it rains here they call it "British weather".

I cycle everyday 32 miles to/fro work which involves uphills and am not ashamed to say that the anatomy of my vaginal lips is going through a change by cuts and bleeding. And the funny thing is I have been cycling on this expensive so called forked saddle for women for 2 years. Male designers should be banned to design female saddles. There are times when I want to cut the entire saddle more in the middle to widen the fork area. The saddle you recommended some years ago is unaffordable for me I am afraid, so I have to suffer for a while. I do not know when female cyclists’ plight will be heard, but it is time the designers heard us and designed affordable and ergonomic female saddles.

I’m so sorry to hear that. That sounds absolutely miserable. It’s really expensive trying to find the right saddle, and as someone who is just managing to keep head above water financially each month, I can definitely empathise with the frustration of feeling stuck with an uncomfortable or painful situation. I found that the sweatier I get, the more friction I experience, so use more chamois cream directly applied all around the genitals when it’s hotter or I’m doing longer rides, and got the best bibs I could afford (which aren’t a top of the range brand, but are an improvement). But it’s not completely foolproof. I really hope you find a solution to ease some of the issue soon.

I’ve re-watched your 2 videos trying to find what saddle you’re now using since the split nose didnt work--but can’t find it. What are you riding now? Thanks.

I went back to the Bontrager. I tweaked my saddle position and played around with my cockpit (tried a couple of different length stems, altered the reach to my hoods) and invested in some better quality bibs, and on the whole, for 2-3 hour rides, it’s been much more comfortable.

Did you ever try the Infinity saddle??? Its design looks like it doesnt touch any soft tissue.

I’ve not come across them before, but just had a Google. I suppose it’s that delicate balance of getting enough of a cutout that there’s no unwanted pressure, and not so much cut away that there’s too little support.

@@deblordoutdoors5783, sorry to bother you you with another question but why do you feel bibs to be better for our “down there” undercarriage than shorts with good chamois?

What a lovely sunset, that must've helped calm you down somewhat after these latest issues!? Sunsets, and rises, are great. I do night rides on the railway lines throughout the year and they're often the highlight of the ride. I hope that you're back on track by now 🙏👍

Thanks Tony. Just getting over covid. Tested positive for 11 days😩 Literally just starting to be able to go out of the house again, so need to build up just getting out further than round the block. Looking forward to some nice winter sunrises though☺️

@@deblordoutdoors5783 sorry to hear that Deb, I've had the Omicron variant three times and it just wasted my life being unable to do any outdoor activities. That and the fact that it's such a bloody miserable time for the body and mind! Yes, you certainly like your sunrises! 🌄 Hopefully it won't take too long to get your fitness back 🤞 Take care 🙂👍

Hi Debs Lots of good advice. I went for a bike fit with Women in Tandem in Nottingham and they were really helpful in sorting me and my bike. I didn’t have any major problems but the small tweaks made things far more comfortable. They put my stem the other way up and adjusted the reach to the gears and brake which was amazing. They are a charity and provide the bike fits at a really reasonable price. My saddle is starting to creak so looks like time to invest in a new one! Now the big decision….eek!

Fantastic! Thanks Wendy. I’ll definitely have a look into them. Currently got covid so stuck indoors. Hoping it’s not going to take too long before I have the gusto to get out and do something again. ☺️
