I'd also check for excessive saddle height. Saddle too high = asymmetric interaction with the pedals, hips on one side will go lower to compensate for the correct height but the other hip is left with nowhere to go other than too high.

I guess 1st step is to determine if your saddle sores come from too much pressure on one or both sides (mostly caused by position or equipment), or about skin irritation, and go from there

Some chamois now tell you not to use chamois creme because it "enables friction" ie your skin sliding because the chamois is designed to "bond" to your skin. Alternate chamois creme, learned from Chris Horner: Noxzema -- part of why it may work is it is a cleanser so maybe the eucalyptus in it is anti-bacterial.

Ummm... how about don't sit around in your knicks after a ride?

I don’t know if this is true but I heard that Team Ineos-Grenadiers went to the lengths of using a different washing machine/drier for each rider. That’s one way to stop it spreading.

Paw paw ointment/cream seems to work well too. Great tips to prevent anything happening in the first place. Need to get onto any issue straight away if possible...

Haven't used chamois cream in years. Good saddle, good shorts and good hygiene are more important.

there are comments regarding saddle being too hight, causing an asymmetric position and interaction. but it is also worth checking if the saddle isn't too low as well. just like the offset. few millimeters can play a huge role

The number one most important thing here is saddle position. Height, tilt, forward-back position, as well as shape and size fitting the rider are massive contributors to both sit bone pain and potential saddle sores. I rode 1100km in the last 7 days and started out the first two days with a badly positioned saddle. Initially I adjusted the angle, and eventually I realised that I was not properly seated on the saddle, as it was a bit too far back. Moving it forward nearly completely fixed the problem. The size of the chamois can certainly be too small as well. Make sure it at the very least covers the sit bones.

I'd also include the use of antibacterial soap. Use antibacterial wipes when you don't have direct access to a shower, and use Pawpaw ointment if you're feeling some tenderness.

Either Emu oil or Lanolin creme about $3 or $4 in the beauty aisle of woolworths. Works as good as $30 -$40 Chamios creme. Add some Tea Tree oil and Eucalyptus oil for extra protection.

I thought the problem with Vaseline was that it is petroleum-based and therefore will clog up the chamois (semi-permanently?) interfering with the ability of it to be properly cleaned or dried.

Slide cleats back as far as possible and use correct form of arch support for your feet. That will cause more even pressure on saddle through the sit bones

Rigorous cleaning with soap is good....but when you do that every day the PH goes up and the natural protection against skin fungus disappears. You should use some body cream(or something like that) after the shower that restores the PH of your skin. If one person has fungus and the clothes are washed(30°) together, you all become infected because your skin is receptive due to high PH and chapped skin. This is not a (direct) saddle sore, but you really want to avoid it.
I use "moisturising body cream" , that restores the PH and is anti-bacterial, as chamois cream. Ingredients are not much different than chamois cream, but a fraction of the price.

Yep, Sudacrem is my go to when riding on the trainer when the bibs tend to hold more sweat. Mostly use sanitiser for the wash so I can wash kit at a low temp but kill the bacteria. I don’t use shammy cream for IRL riding as I’ve never had an issue.

After 3 or more years of cycling, I never knew saddle sore was a hygiene thing. I only thought it's something you get when you first start cycling or you've been on a long break.

hey chris 1. you only need vitamin E cream works beautifully (Nivea Body Nourishing Lotion ), don't' waste money on bike cream products, 2, did you mention to pedal off seat whilst on ride, 3, use Eucalyptus oil has purifying properties put in wash with powder. finally don't sit around post ride in your gear. get it off asap.

Just a suggestion Chris, your video grading looks a bit washed out, try adding a bit more contrast to remove it.
As to creams, i use baby cream, yes Bepanthen antiseptic cream.

Chamois give you Swamp Ass, better to use a powder than something moist.
If the product is good enough for baby’s bums, then that’s what you should use.
That being the basics, you can advance to other powders that you find appropriate for your situation.

Most cyclist and I expect most cyclist watching this try to emulate the pros which means most likely they have their saddles way too high for that super fucking look at me I’m cool look. I’ve never had a saddle sore and I’ve never had my saddle so high it looks fucking ridiculous. Never tried to emulate a pro either because guess what I’m not a pro and most of you aren’t either so lower your damn saddle.
