    Can’t wait to get my wheat off and take advantage of a warm season cover crop on that ground.
    Wow, I’m impressed how perfectly that x-9 spreads the straw. It hits the whole 50’ perfectly. My $50k combines don’t do that, but I spent all my money on the planters 😂

  • @ScottPykare

    I really like the X'9s. It does a great job cutting with 50' but the spread pattern looks like it goes farther than the 50'? That's pretty awesome. Great video Mike 👍🏻.

    Great video Mike. I didnt know there where any big farmers, or anyone for that matter that knows what a meadow strip, or wayerway was. The grass strips that take the extra water runoff away from the field, with minimal erosion. These alway were a must on our farm in Southern Virginia.

You might be able to get some footage from Grogan Farms or also called Triple G farms in Arlington. And Reams farms located in South Fulton, TN. Those 2 are probably biggest farmers in this area. They all have fleets of combines lol

    That field looks lush! Is the straw spread out instead of baled because it’s not suitable for bedding? Or does it help with the soybeans or erosion by being left on the field?

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Рік тому +4

      This farm does not need the straw for bedding and lots of farmers agree that straw is much better going back into the ground than to bale and sell it.

  • @MrPummi88
    @MrPummi88 Рік тому +1

    Do the Farmers dont need the straw? Or why is it beeing chipped?
    And also pretty intetesting that the ground is not tilled at all...

    • @Zero01k
      @Zero01k Рік тому +4

      Majority of people who raise wheat in the US don't have many or no livestock at all, and selling the straw doesn't return on the investment of the equipment to make the straw. Plus there is a timing issue, especially here in Kentucky, we want the double crop soybeans in the ground asap, baling the straw and picking it up out of the field takes a lot of time and most don't want to postpone planting soybeans after the wheat is cut. Some people will bale straw after cutting wheat but not everyone wants to do it, and the chopped straw can help retain moisture for the soybeans.

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Рік тому +2

      Straw does a lot for the ground and most guys say the straw is worth more decomposing back into the ground that it would be to bale and sell it. Now if the farm has livestock and needs the straw for bedding that's a different story but then they have manure to put back on this ground.
      Soybeans being no till planted into the wheat stubble do pretty good on most places.

    Sorry if this is a dumb question, but, how does the planter know where it's been?

    • @farmhandmike
      @farmhandmike  Рік тому +3

      They are running GPS on the tractor. Lots of planters also have row shut-offs that are GPS controlled so nothing gets double planted.
